This was my first visit to this restaurant, and I was unaware that it was not the traditional sit-down type. The menu offered a variety of options, with the candied yams looking really good. I chose the pork chops, candied yams, and macaroni and cheese. My mother selected the turkey wings, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese, while my cousin opted for the fish and candied yams. The serving sizes were unexpectedly large, and the candied yams were every bit as delicious as I had expected. The food was superb. I was so impressed that I requested the hotel to package my leftovers, which I then took with me on my return flight home. I didn't think to take photos until after we began to eat. read more

The meal did not quite live up to the high expectations, though it was perfectly acceptable. As someone who appreciates fine cuisine, having been raised by an exceptional cook, I am quite discerning. I am curious if the flavor profile was perhaps adjusted to accommodate mass production and cost efficiencies. I do plan to return for another visit. read more

Food - it was just okay. I think I liked them more in the food truck. The store front portions and food line, doesn't match what you see online or actually get! But the Yams A+ Service- was cool, never met anyone with a bad attitude or not willing to give suggestions. For that I say, Thank You! Ambiance/Cleanliness- it's always warm with a ton of flies! Overall, it's just okay. If you want to go to cross it off your list, go for it. read more

Clean little soul food shop that is really for takeout. It does have a couple of tables inside and and outside. Very friendly staff. The lady running the register endorsed my choice of yellow rice as a base. And I didn't have to wait long to get my order. I ordered a small Smothered Pork Chop plate which comes with one pork chop as opposed to two for a large. For sides I got collard greens and cabbage. The pork chop, gravy and rice were tasty. The collard greens, while having a good number of stems, was also good, and it had some pulled pork in it. The cabbage had an unusual flavor, and I couldn't quite place my finger on the spices but it was still good too. read more

The food itself is okay. I have been 3 times and each time their service gets worse and worse. They prioritize online orders so much that the people who come inside to order are piled into the extremely tiny waiting area. They also play music and not at a subtle volume, the volume is so high that you can't even hear someone right next to you talking. It's giving more of a club than a restaurant. read more

I asked someone about recommendations of good soul food and SOUL FORKING GOOD was suggested. When I pulled up, the line was out of the door. It was around 4:20ish pm and they close at 6pm on Sunday. The line moved really quickly. There was a DJ outside playing some good music. I ordered the (large) Whole Chicken Wing plate with rice and gravy with collard greens. Six wings come on this plate along with Munbo Sauce and a roll. The cost was $23 plus tax. Food was DELICIOUS!!!! I will definitely be back! read more

Came for the turkey wings, but fell in love with the oxtails. We arrived on the grand opening weekend of their new brick and mortar location to lots of activity and fanfare. There were balloons, music, dancing, a DJ, and tents! Two different flavors of turkey wings were prepared, regular in gravy and Cajun style (4 stars). Unfortunately they ran out of the regular before we reached the ordering counter, but the Cajun were still very good! To my surprise, the oxtails (5 stars) were some of the best I've ever eaten. Large, tender and soul forking good! We also ordered chicken wings (3.5 stars) with their famous mambo sauce and fried fish (3 stars). Both were okay, but the star of the show for me were the oxtails. Hope to visit again next time we are passing through Charlotte. Overall I would give them 3.75 rounded up because of friendly customer service and very respectable large crowd management. read more

Y'all I FINALLY made it here and I DEVOURED my plate that I didn't even think twice about taking photos of the food lol. I was so deep into eating my plate that I didn't even consider taking photos until 3/4 of the way finished and by then, it was too late. I called in my order for pick up and was so hungry so that didn't help. The location is definitely a pick up and go joint with just enough seating to wait for your order to be ready. It gets quite busy on a Friday night and I completely understand why now. It's located in a shopping center with parking around the building, so if there aren't any available spaces directly in front of the establishment, there is ample parking all around. The FOOD: I had a catfish sandwich, green beans, candied yams, cornbread and banana pudding cake. With the absence of the photos, I can honestly say, everything was amazing. The cake was really sweet and tastes more like a banana cake than banana pudding cake in my opinion but was still good. And the YAMSSSSS.... So tell me how can I get to the yams? YAMS! Sweet Yams. SWEET YAMS! I LOVE candy yams and these are absolutely hands down top 2 in Durham from what I've tried (Top 3 in all of the Triangle). I am really difficult to satisfy when it comes to candy yams and banana pudding. I WILL BE BACK (in my Terminator Voice) and this time with photos. read more

First time trying and first impression was great! All the staff is super friendly and quick at getting your food out. They give GREAT portions. Definitely worth the money. Fish was fresh! I couldn't wait to check this place out! The line was long but it moved fast. Although the line moved fast it took a while to get your food. I didn't mind because the food was hot and fresh. I had their fried fish, yams and fries. Everything was cooked perfectly! read more

Highly highly recommend the jerk turkey wings! This was delicious! Got this with the collard greens and mac. Mac was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. My husband got the chopped steak and said it was a bit salty, but other than that we both enjoyed the food! This place is mostly take out with just a few tables to sit. I could eat here every day. I recently had the Season fish and macaroni and cheese. The collard greens were an add-on and they were so good. The plate was full of flavor and all took me by surprise. Soul Forking Good is one of my favorites for soul food!! If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and go. I've been twice and even drove from Greensboro to Durham just to eat here once; it's THAT good. The smothered turkey wings are a must-try. They're tender, flavorful, and literally fall off the bone!! The portion sizes are generous, especially for the price, which makes it an even better value. Fair warning: it's a small location & there will most likely be a line, but that also speaks to how good the food is. The wait is worth it! Not pictured: I've also tried the banana pudding cake, which was tasty but leaned more toward an artificial banana flavor for my taste. However, the red velvet cake was absolutely delicious! It tasted just like my grandmother's, which says a lot! read more

This was one of the worst food experiences I've had in a long time. What's advertised on their social media pages is flat-out misleading and does not reflect what you actually receive. The food online looks fresh, rich, and made with care. What I got tasted old, poorly handled, and reheated. The mac and cheese was clearly not fresh. It had that stiff, dried-out texture that only comes from sitting and being reheated, and it honestly seemed like they tried to cover it up by throwing fresh cheese on top. That didn't fix anything and it just made it more obvious. The flavor was bland, the texture was rubbery, and it tasted like leftovers being passed off as a fresh dish. The fried chicken was dry, tough, and completely lacking seasoning. It tasted like it had been cooked long before and reheated without any care. No crispness, no juiciness, no flavor and just disappointing. And the biggest issue of all: the candied yams were not candied yams. What I received was mashed potatoes. Not a different style of yams. Not a mix-up in texture. Literal mashed potatoes. That goes beyond a simple mistake and into either extreme carelessness or outright dishonesty. The restaurant was extremely packed which would explained why they can't keep up with the demands of making food fresh. The 2 sides were pipping hot like someone microwaved them and placed them in a tray. Also; there is nowhere to sit down in the restaurant. The serving lines were not cleaned, neat and presentable. Food service is also about cleanliness. I was incredibly disappointed for driving over an hour to support this black owned business. As a food service professional for over 20 years myself this experience was beyond the pale. I will not return and recommend to family and friends. I wish them all the best and hope things will improve. read more

Located in a strip mall type of setting this is a food truck turned brick and mortar. The wait was long. About 45 minutes from the time we walked in until to we got our order. Small space. I would not consider it dine it but there were 3 small tables. We ordered the whiting dinner and the chicken wing/whiting dinner. Two pieces of cake and a lemonade. Our total was $77!! The fish was not hot by the time we got 5 minutes down the road to our hotel. The yams were too thick or something. The collard greens were not well seasoned. The cake was just okay. For that amount of money I was expecting to be blown away and I was not. read more

Great would food Resturant fish was fresh, great wings, great eating. A go to spot for good food

The bake Spaghetti is the best I ever had at a restaurant. And the fish was cooked perfectly!! It's a must stop ever time , I visit Durham

Ok yall this place is super good. When I pulled up I almost turned around because the line was out the door. We waited and the line moved pretty quickly. I ordered a catfish sandwich and a large wing dinner with collards and Mac. It's was wonderful the Mac was about a 7 everything else was a 10. O and I had hush puppies on the side too and they were a 10. Now the cons: Due to the door being opened so much it was a lot of flies in there. Hopefully they are working on a resolution for that. Lastly there is a machine in there that you can place your order on if you are paying with a card which is great in theory. The problem is it's in a bad place and you still are waiting in the regular line for a while to get to the machine. If that machine could be places somewhere else it would be great. Overall experience is 9/10 and I will def be back. read more

No room to sit down and eat. Way overpriced for what you get. Rude staff. Food was not good. Small portions. The greens tasted like burnt grease and the tea tasted like it had water from the greens in it and had a greasy film on top. read more

Mediocre food. Shrimp and fries. Drink was too sweet. We added ice to water it down. Nothing special. Small seating area. I expected more.

I visited SoulForkingForkingGood in Durham today after following them on social media for a while. I really wanted to love this place, but honestly, my experience was just okay. I spent around $70 for everything. I ordered the fish and shrimp dinner with two sides. The shrimp were fine, but the fish was very disappointing. It was a thin, dry piece that didn't taste fresh and looked nothing like what they show in their TikTok videos. I'm not even sure it was whiting because whiting is usually thick and meaty, and this wasn't. The cabbage had no flavor at all, but the yams were really good. I also ordered a small side of chicken wings, three for about $7.25, and those were delicious. The wings were seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. My husband got the jerk turkey wings with cabbage and yams. He said the turkey wings tasted great but weren't very hot, more like warm. The rice and gravy were very good, but again, the cabbage was bland. The restaurant itself was packed, and there are only a couple of tables inside, so we ended up eating in the car. The cashier was really nice and helpful, especially since it was our first time there. Overall, the service was friendly and the wings were the best part, but the fish and cabbage really let us down. I drove about 45 minutes to get there, expecting something amazing, and it just didn't live up to the hype. I'd give it 3 stars. I don't hate it, but if I ever go back, I'll definitely order something different. read more

I had the whiting combo and the fish was so yummy! When I arrived, the building was packed which was a good sign to me, because I just knew the food was going to great The line moved pretty fast, so they have a good system. I went here for the grand opening weekend with some family. It was very busy and it's very small inside so we had to wait outside until the line grew smaller. They did have tables and chairs and a DJ and that was super fun. For the service you order through the line and then they call your number when your food is ready. I ordered the chicken wing plate with 2 sides for about 18 dollars. They do have a smaller meal for lunch. The chicken was good, not the best fried chicken I've ever had. The flavoring was on point but it could have been a little more cripsy. The fries were good and hot and the Mac and cheese was really good. I ordered the lemonade which was nice and sweet as well. They have the drinks sold in bottles already bottled up for you. It did take a while for the food to come, but it was the grand opening so I assume that's why. Otherwise the service was friendly. This was my first experience with the restaurant but it was good. The menu does seem a little smaller than others in the area. read more

I'm glad they got a building! They are a good place, but boy are they expensive! I spent $60+ on me and my 2 kids. I went to the grand opening. The line to order moved pretty quickly, but the wait for the food did take a while. The food was hot and good, but my order was wrong at first. My sister ordered right after me, just chicken wings and 2 sides and had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes while people who came in way after us got their food and left. Hopefully they keep business rolling in, but it does slow down for customers to actually enjoy. read more

This place had been coming up on my instagram feed for a while, as a food truck. Imagine my surprise when I stayed at the Hilton and I saw the brick and mortar right beside it. We stopped on our way out and picked up some to go plates. We got there at 11:30, they opened at 11:00 and it was already a line, short but still a line. We were greeted by all the staff members when we entered, they told us about the specials and the food is out so you can see how good it looks. It's a smaller place I saw two tables, but mostly take out. We ordered the smothered pork chops x2 it comes with rice and two sides. We got the mac &cheese and cabbage. We also ordered the turkey wings, came with rice and two sides. I was disappointed I didn't have gravy on my rice because the gravy on the turkey wing ls was great! We also ordered the whitening with green beans &mac and cheese and the fried chicken wings with fries. For five plates it came to 98.00, not bad for the size of the plates and what we received. Everything was delicious, I would definitely go back! read more

I was in town for work and the shuttle driver highly recommended this restaurant. I was excited to get some home cooked food. The customer service was 10 out of 10 The food was 5 out of 10. Large portions for the price. I got the regular turkey/jerk turkey wings, greens, Mac and cheese, and yellow rice. The greens tasted slightly gritty, the Mac n cheese was not cheesy and salty, rice also slightly salty. Maybe it was a one off day for the cooks. I don't think I'll try them again. read more

The place was hopping when I arrived. Don't expect to eat in. There are a couple of 2 seater tables but the line for food is right beside them. I placed my order at the kiosk and waited only about 10 minutes before my food was ready. (It was a lot faster than I expected given that the line was out the door and down the sidewalk when I arrived. 'The food looked and smelled so good we sat in the parking lot and ate. I got the turkey wing, rice, collards, yams, and macaroni & cheese. Saying it was all delicious is an understatement. My friends got the fried chicken, fish sandwich, and smothered stake. We all felt that the food was hot and seasoned well. We will definitely be back!!!! read more
