Hello! I thought initially this would be one of those touristy spots that are overpriced and so-so because of the area, but how wrong was I! Walking in, feels like I'm in a family home. It is a smaller, intimate place. Our server was excited about the menu which was nice. She ordered everything for me basically when I asked for her usuals. This is our 3rd time here so thought I should at least leave a review! We love this place, tucked away off of main street. We started with the Focaccia plate with olive oil w/seasonings sprinkled on top. The focaccia was amazing but I really missed the traditional olive oil & basalmic vinegar. With just the oil for dipping, it was pretty blah, IMHO. Hubby ordered the Spaghetti & 3 large Meatballs that were about 2" diameter. I ordered the Creste de Gallo ala Vodka w/sausage. BOTH were delicious but after my first 2 bites, my mouth was on fire. I'm a real wimp when it comes to hot spicy foods :( so it was no one's fault but mine (It would be nice though if they would put little peppers next to the spicier dishes). But once again, Hubby rescued me and made me trade dishes with him. Sorella's is clean, the staff is friendly & efficient. We also like the rustic vibe with artwork reflecting the ocean. We love Nye Beach it is such a hidden gem deep in the bowels of Newport, so I would hate to give this great area away, but this place and each other deserve the recognition and patronage. We have noticed this place before but our timing over the past few years was never when they were open. Every place in Nye beach is fantastic, but this Italian restaurant his hands down the best Italian food I have ever had. The place is not super fancy, but it is very inviting and warm inside, includes a bar and TV along with well-spaced tables. The staff was super nice and obviously very proud of their restaurant, very attentive and always asking how your meal is going. All the food is house made (except the cannoli shells they bring from New York). They make house walnut bitters which they used in an old fashioned and another drink we had. Everything was so fresh, and the tastes were just out of this world. There is definitely a lot of love in the food quality and honestly for such great food the price point was very friendly. In Portland we could have easily paid double the price for this. They also serve pizza, which I will try next time we visit, but I am still craving their wonderful pasta even days after our visit, so it might be hard to try something else ;). If you are ever in Newport head down to see Sorella and the other places in this area, you will not regret the visit at all. read more

I really wanted to like Sorella! I'm always looking for a great Italian restaurant, however they missed the mark on every dish :( The breadsticks we ordered were inedible due to being raw in the center. The salad was overly drenched in Caesar dressing that the lettuce was soggy. I did like the fry on the chicken parm, however the sauce was very watery. We just love this place! We've been there on two previous occasions and it was delicious. This time was a bit of a disappointment. They no longer have the fried Brussels Sprouts. The meatballs in my husbands spaghetti were so salty he could not eat them. I got the lasagna which Is usually good was so salty I couldn't eat it. Obviously they had a bad night but the Butterscotch Cannelloni's were absolutely delicious! Since I didn't eat my meal I had room for the dessert. Well definitely try it again. read more

We were in Nye Beach for the first time in years and walked down the street from the Inn at Nye Beach, expecting to go to the Nye Creek Taphouse for a quick dinner. We did not realize that they had closed. Their website is still up. We were standing right in front of Sorella, so we gave it a try. I had the Margherita pizza, which was excellent. It had a chewy crust, just a hint of saltiness, flavorful sauce, and very fresh basil on top--as good as being in Naples. The surprise was the ragù alla Bolognese lasagna my wife ordered. I've been a Bolognese fan for decades and have had it all over the world, and I can say that this was the best. Just perfect. She had to fend me off to get her share. We're boycotting drinks over $10 these days, so we didn't try any of the house cocktails. Service was very good, and the ambiance was pleasant and not overly loud, despite a pretty good crowd. Fantastic place. A cute little place in a small strip mall. The hours are 3p to 9p. You can eat in or order to take out. The food and the gelato is scratch made on the premises. It's very good. I had a pasta dish and the YS has the lasagna which he said was great. We got in there about 4:30pm and business was already starting to pick up. I looked it doesn't look like they take reservations. We purchased an appetizer as well which was deep fried Brussel sprouts. Also very tasty. All in all great service and very good food. I'll be back to check it out again soon. read more

Loved finding this little gem on our vacation. Pizza was amazing (so good we had it twice in a week. We also made a third trip to try their lasagne. It was so good! Definitely on our list of "we'll be back" places. Our only issue was that when they got really busy, our waiter was not attentive to our table. We had to wave him down to ask for drink refills and I asked for Parmesan cheese that never showed up, so after about 10 minutes I went up to the counter to get one myself. Kind of disappointing after our other two visits had been such great service. read more

The texture of the meatballs were not tough but compact. The spaghetti was al dente with long stands. I love garlic and the meal needed abit more flavor. We ordered the barratta and it was served without balsamic vinegar. Just wrong. The tomatoes were delicious and basil leaves were huge! The Barrera cheese was creamy and delicious. But missing balsamic was a profound miss. We had to ask for balsamic. The mocktails were weak on flavor. The Cesar salad was crunchy with the perfect amount of dressing and Parmesan cheese. The tiramisu was bland. The cake sponge was filled with creamy mediocre cream, no lady fingers and soaked in espresso. The cannoli was missing chocolate chips and drenched in chocolate syrup. The filling had great texture but lacked flavor. The strawberry gelato stood out as the front runner. Excellent flavor and texture. The garlic bread was amazing! Just an expensive experience with good service. Maybe after the cook develops a sense of taste, we will return. Otherwise save your $ and head to the nearest Olive Garden. read more

Excellent food. When we came though they were out of the bread and garlic bread which was disappointing because we were looking forward to it. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer and they came out quickly. They were big and juicy, absolutely delicious. My partner ordered their version of a pepperoni pizza and I got the lasagna. We spent a long time waiting for the food to come out, almost 40 minutes but it was worth it. The lasagna was huge, it could feed two people and it was flavorful. The pizza was good the only criticism is that we wish the bottom was a bit more crispy. We also shared a tiramisu. It was good but the bottom was too wet. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because they were out of bread and those other minor things. read more

Two years after our first visit we thought it could let us down from a great experience. Nope it blew us away again. Each dish was loved and devoured. Drinks fantastic (walnut old fashion!), the food was too notch and generous. This time we got the chicken parmesean, spaghetti and meatballs, ear shaped pasta in vodka cream sausage sauce and the seared albacore with a Cesar salad. We'd never eaten here before and decided to give it a try, SO glad we did! The atmosphere is more like a pizza parlor but the food is fantastic. We started with a beet appetizer with fresh mozzarella, unique and delicious. I had pasta with a vodka sauce with sausage and it was delicious. The first thing we noticed was that the ambience is very warm and comfortable. The lighting was mid, not quite romance, not quite early. We showed up in the late afternoon before dinner so the candles and the tables were not lit and we had time to talk a bit and enjoy our food before the rush. The service was top notch, especially today, they were all very helpful with not only asking you what you wanted but suggesting pairings and other menu items that might be good with what we chose. I noticed there weren't in a condiments on the table which is perfectly fine because we didn't need them. Everything was seasoned well and I only had room for parmesan because I have an addiction. I'm not normally a fan of lemon and anything except for drinks, but I would never eat ice cream or gelato anywhere else again if I could have the flavors they have for the rest of my days! Staff told us about his sister restaurant that we will also be visiting eventually. Until then I will raid this restaurant as many times as possible. read more

We came out from the valley to celebrate my daughter's birthday at Sorella and had amazing food! We started with the Zucchini Fritte appetizer with Garlic Chile Honey Aioli. It very very tasty. I tried the Chicken Parmesan. It was so good and it took me two more meals to finish my leftovers. One of my daughters has the Casarecce alla Bolognese and loved it. My other daughter had the Creste de Gallo alla Vodka and also loved it. Our server was very nice, efficient, helpful and accurate. She helped my daughter figure out which pasta dish she had had previously (it was the Creste de Gallo alla Bolognese). My daughter also had a drink, I forget the name but I believe it was a margarita with grapefruit juice. I failed to take a pic but it was very pretty and tasted yummy. We did find out that they change their menu approximately every six weeks when we inquired about the artichoke heart appetizer that wasn't on the menu. We can't wait until it returns so we can try it. read more

My family has been coming here for the past few years, and I'm sad to say, it's just not fitting our needs anymore. There used to be a little play area for the kids, which is now gone. Gone with it are my dreams of a drink before dinner while the little ones play. It's understandable, it took up space that a table now occupies. They don't have a printed kids menu, but the waitress told us what the kitchen could make for kids size meals. Sadly, the portion size of the kids pasta was so small that my five year old ate it in six bites and was still hungry. There was nothing wrong with any of the food, but it was just meh. We were driving into Newport from Tacoma, Washington and worried that we might not arrive in enough time to have dinner at Sorella, but they were open past their posted closing time (so that worked out very well for us!). There was a wait on a sunday night, but it wasn't too bad 5/5 - Focaccia: Light and airy inside with a perfect thin and crunchy outside. Perfect. 3/5 - Meatballs and Marinara: 2 pork, beef and veal meatballs in marinara topped with pecorino romano. 3/5 - Rigatoni Alla Vodka: sausage added. Pretty good. 2/5 - Margherita Pizza: This was served after if had been sitting for awhile and it was not hot. The cook or manager looked irritated by us sending it back and requesting a hot & fresh pizza. Perhaps that's why they took forever to serve the replacement. By the time it arrived, everyone was done... and it wasn't even worth the wait. The food came out to 3.2 stars (saved by the Focaccia). I'm leaving it at 3 because of the whole pizza debacle. read more

The fieno pasta was a little clumped together so it took mild effort to pull it into better portions. The gelato was creamy. We got orange olive oil, mild creamsicle-like flavor and we could taste the fresh zest; salted caramel rum; strawberry sorbet was perfectly tart from the meyer lemons they used and would be a great choice for a dessert cocktail with tequila. read more

LONG RANTING REVIEW ALERT! Incredibly underwhelming. I don't get pasta often, so when I do, I want it to be worth my time, money, and the carbs. Obviously. My most recent comparison is Grassa so...um...Sorella do better, please. My moms creste de gallo had salty basil water where the sauce should've been. My man added "confit chicken" to his rigatoni alla vodka and it just tasted like chicken and nothing else, plus it was just a minimal amount of weird chicken pieces. Confit means what? Boiled? Lol. Anyway, I got the special tagliatelle with fennel broth, calamari, and sausage and it was fine but like...whole, essentially uncooked, cherry tomatoes on it? The creste de gallo had them too. The fried artichoke appetizer was almost perfect, had we gotten a few actual hearts to dip instead of a bowl of fried flappy leaves. I dunno, man. My expectations were high and we all felt fleeced by the cost. And our server was in outer space. Definitely didn't care about our experience. Just going through the motions. What a shame.
