Located just steps from the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort, Sonrisa Grill is definitely a popular dinner spot in MonteLago Village. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday and were quoted about a 45-minute wait for a table, but luckily the bar was open. We grabbed seats at the end of a long table, which eventually turned into a fun little communal setup as the night went on. First up--a strawberry daiquiri, and honestly, one of the best we've ever had! You could actually taste the strawberries, and it was SO refreshing on a hot summer night. They also had a DJ playing a mix of 90s R&B, Latin dance/reggaeton and throwback party music along with the music videos. Total old-school MTV vibes, and we loved it. We ordered the carne asada tacos with chips and salsa. The salsa had a little kick without setting your mouth on fire, and the tacos were delicious. The restaurant overlooks the water and has a large patio that would be perfect once the weather cools down. Our bartenders/servers were fun, attentive and added to the experience. Definitely recommend Sonrisa if you're visiting Lake Las Vegas! My only suggestion: boost that AC or add a few more fans. It was WARM in there and we were definitely sweating by the end of dinner. So I happen to be in Lake Las Vegas touring some homes. To further familiarize ourselves with the area we decided to do a quick walk through of the village. Being as it was over 110 degrees we had to decide fast. We first stopped at Mimi's and looked at their menu, but their salads were over $60 so we quickly moved onto Sonrisa. We were destroyed by the sun and dying of thirst. Neither the waitress, hostess or food server got us any water for a good 5 mins. This is only noteworthy because the majority of the businesses here seem to get very little business (judging by all the spaces for lease and lack of foot traffic), so they should be MUCH more attentive to customers when they get them. The waitress finally got us our water, she had a small wedding party to attend to, so she gets a pass. But the others clearly could have given her an assist. I've worked in a restaurant and the best ones are when they work as a team with one common goal and help each other out. After that we got our orders in. I asked if the tacos were crispy or street tacos and she said "semi crisp". I've never heard this description before at a Mexican restaurant, it's either Dorado or soft. But what she meant was that they were crispy, just not out of the box, pan fried with some chew still. Which is great that's how I make it and like it. This brief interaction with the restaurant, combined with being located in somewhat of a "touristy" type location, had my expectations fairly low. But to our surprise, everyone really liked what they got. One thing that was really apparent was the abundance of protein in the beef tacos, carne asada burrito and fish tacos -- packed with meat. The beans had really good, rich, lardy flavor. I knew they'd be heavy and they were, but tasted great. The portions weren't huge but just enough, and I'm glad they weren't because you always leave a Mexican restaurant too full when you order combo plates. So heavy on the meat and light on the rice and beans, was surprisingly the way to go. I'm fairly certain the chips were made in house, didn't seem like any store bought ones I've ever had. The salsa had an initial marinara taste to it, but then the slight heat legitimized it. I always tell people I always prefer my Mexican food to "3 star" level -- simple, no frills, authentic. I don't want elevated, fusion, fancy presentation, etc. and Sonrisa really delivered on that. I'm not in Lake Las Vegas very often, but I would definitely come back here whenever I do. I hope they succeed as a business but need to step up the awareness of the staff to ensure it. read more

Disappointing to say the least. We visited on a Monday around noon. We were starving and Sonrisa Grill sounded like a great idea since my hubby and I LOVE Mexican food. Upon walking in, it took a while for the hostess/server to seat us. Soon after being seated a young man came to drop off our drinks and chips and salsa. First off, I can judge by the chips and salsa if the place is going to be good or not. The chips tasted store bought and the salsa was way too spicy. I ordered the fish tacos with rice and beans and hubby ordered chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. Mind you, he did not order a side of hair to go with his rice!!!! It was a long black hair intertwined with his rice, so gross. When we alerted the server, she apologized and asked if my hubby wanted a fresh meal. Being that my hubby is diabetic and needed to eat he said yes. At that point I was already disappointed with my fish tacos, and the unseasoned rice and beans and disgusted with the hair in his food, I stopped eating. He got his new meal and he let me taste his chicken quesadilla....that was the saving grace of this whole experience. The ambiance was nice but I wish the food would have matched with the atmosphere. One would think that with hair in your food, you would receive something complimentary or a discount or a manager to come out and apologize and offer a coupon or something for what happened. I usually give places a benefit of the doubt and would give another chance but I can honestly say this would not be the case here. I will not be back here. Quality/Quantity - Our friend just moved to Virginia and he says there are not enough good Mexican restaurants there, so here we are. One of his favorite Mexican restaurants. He got his usual Shrimp Chimichanga - Good as usual. My wife and I shared a Chicken and Beef Fajita - As light eaters, we did NOT want to over eat like yesterday's lunch. The fajita was okay; I had to order an extra serving of flour tortillas but that took forever to get to our table. I guess it was made to order...? Ambiance - Decent size location. Two floors. Indoor and outdoor seating. Bar seating, etc. Plenty of mall parking. Live music; see their website. Open 7 days a week from 11am or 11:30am to 9pm or 10pm. Service - Okay. It was my second time there as we were in the village at Lake Las Vegas for the farmers market. We made the decision to sit outside and eat which I won't recommend doing so during the day as it was quite humid outside We ordered the burrito and it came with rice and beans which was I was pleasantly surprised. We also ordered the chicken enchiladas that were also served with rice and beans. We were also served chips and salsa which the salsa was amazing that had a lot of good flavor and it wasn't too hot. The chicken enchiladas were incredible. The chicken on the inside was delicious. The enchiladas were also stuffed very generously and the sauce was not too spicy. I really loved that the dishes were also put in the oven so the cheese was melted with a little bit of a crust. For drinks, I got the jalapeno margarita and shared a shot with my sister in law. Both were great! For food, we shared the tortillas with soup and the Skirt Steak a la Tampiqueña and both were too good! First of all, I'm a major fan creamy tortilla soup. Stopped by Sonrisa Grill while at Lake Las Vegas and honestly this place is all about the vibe. The patio overlooking the village and lake makes it such a relaxing spot, especially around sunset. It was a lovely night and we decided to go here to enjoy a meal before the music started. It was a 50 min wait which was fine. We sat outside and listened to the bands sound check. After 40 mins we got the call our table was ready. We sat outside and it took a bit to get our drink or and food it. We ordered soda waters and lemonade. I ordered the sizzling steak fajitas and kids tenders and fries and chimichanga. When the food arrived there was nothing sizzling about my dish. The onions were kinda raw and the steak which wasn't much at all was boiled. For $27 I expected it to smell nice but I guess I should Leave that to Chilis. We asked for BBQ sauce for the tenders when the food arrived and it came 30 mins later when they were done and we had asked twice. When I ordered they asked if I wanted to guacamole so I said yes. She didn't say do you want to ADD guacamole. When the bill came we were charged for the soda waters $8, $3.50 for the guacamole and $2 for the BBQ sauce!!! I could not even believe it. Honestly I feel like they should have paid me to eat there. I even asked for salt which came later to help season the boiled meat. The whole place just looked like they were all upset and just waiting for their food and not being very happy when they got it. The food was okay, my drink looked amazing but didn't have much mango flavor as it was a mango margarita.. my mom got a guava margarita and it tasted like cotton candy so she switched it to strawberry but she didn't really enjoy it either , it wasn't that rich red you would normally see and didn't like the blend on it. Also, they do charge for every little thing. If they ask if you want a side of sour cream and guac with your meal it's $4 each. And we asked for a side of bbq sauce for my daughter's chicken tenders and that was a charge of over $3. So that was a bit disappointing. Went to a Saturday lunch with longtime friends. While one party lives in Boulder City, one in Henderson and one in Summerlin, we needed to meet halfway. We have visited Sonrisa Grill in the past and each time, we have a lovely time with good company, excellent service by Zoey, decent margaritas, and really good food. Zoey recognized our need to chit chat a bit and checked up on us regularly without interrupting our often "animated" conversations. She provided us with excellent service. The restaurant is located in Lake Las Vegas. The best advice I can give is to park in the Hilton garage (free) and take the elevator where you can walk next door to Sonrisa. They offer outdoor seating that has great views to people watch. I recommend, especially, if you are in the area. read more

Came here for our anniversary dinner. The view was absolutely beautiful and the drinks were amazing. The food, however, didn't feel very authentic Mexican. The service was just okay--I had to get up and get my own napkins, possibly because we were seated outside while it was busy inside. It was also a bit pricey for what it was, and we've had much better quality food for a lower price. Overall, it's a nice spot for the atmosphere and cocktails, but there is room for improvement with the food, service, and value. read more

Sonrisa Grill used to be one of our favorite restaurants, which makes our experience last Friday even more disappointing. My family and I went in to eat and immediately noticed how uncomfortably hot it was inside. When we inquired about the temperature, we were told that the air conditioning was broken and that the owner was aware of the issue. What was particularly disappointing was our interaction with the manager, Jeremy. When we asked about how hot it was in the restaurant, he seemed very off-putting and almost bothered that we were even questioning it. Considering how uncomfortable the temperature was, I would have expected our concerns to be taken a little more seriously than being told the "owner has known about it all summer" and that's all he can do is report the issue , NOT TO MENTION HE'S SO CHILDISHLY REAFFIRMED THAT IT WAS LAS VEGAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER. This is summertime in Las Vegas, where temperatures can easily exceed 100 degrees. It was simply too hot for my family and me to comfortably sit there and eat, so we ended up leaving. We made the trip expecting to enjoy dinner at a restaurant that had been a favorite of ours, only to turn around and leave. If a restaurant knows its air conditioning isn't working during a Las Vegas summer, customers should at the very least be made aware before being seated. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed the way we feel about Sonrisa Grill. Until the air conditioning is fixed and customer concerns about the conditions are handled differently, we won't be returning and even if it is fixed there are nicer restaurants all over the Las Vegas Valley, where the customer matters. read more

Can you do this restaurant little late because they close at 8:30 on Tuesdays but they have all you can eat tacos starting $15 or the other ones for 20 Jeremy. The general manager actually seated me and served me because they were real busy. The tacos were amazing. They're not your street taco size. They're really a regular taco size guarantee six fills up. Carne Asada was great flavor very tender shrimp tacos were really big huge shrimp pieces. Amazing taste perfectly cooked. A lot of people say it's too far to drive to Lake Las Vegas about 23 minutes to get here even coming from Sahara and Nellis service was amazing. The place is very beautiful and clean. Definitely the best tacos I've ever had quality of the Tacos, are 100% good even better than taco Al Gordo you have to come out here and enjoy all you can eat tacos on Tuesdays. Thinking about moving from Seattle to Lake Las Vegas and discovered Sonrisa Grill on a warm May afternoon. It was about 1pm and I was looking for a cold michealada and a light bite. I ordered the carnitas sliders with fries and a side of fried jalapeños and onions. The sliders were great but the star of the show were the jalapeños and onions. Reminds me of when I saw Nonpoint open for Seether in Boise. I wasn't expecting much from Nonpoint, but now they're one of my favorite bands. Just like the J&Os. Now, every time I go to a Mexican place like Flaming Juan's in Henderson, I ask for fried jalapeños. The service at Sonrisa Grill was excellent and you have a great view of the lake where you can see people fall off their paddle boards. I'm not sure if chips and salsa are given to every table, but we had to ask for some. I ordered a corona margarita and it was delish! For my entree, I went with the chile relleno, chicken taco and rice & beans. I was very pleased with my meal. I really liked that they had a soft corn tortilla vs the crunch Taco Bell kind. At that time, I gave a stellar review recognizing the staff, the food selections/preparation and the ambiance. Here it is 4-months later and the accolades still hold true. The employees EACH AND EVERY ONE put forth utmost enthusiasm for their job - actually happy to be there! To take a phrase from my prior review - this restaurant is a "well-oiled machine." It's obvious the employees like each other. Repeat customers (and new) are treated with respect - we matter. Highly recommend this neighborhood establishment. If you are staying at the Hilton just walk out and it's hect to the garden before the lake. Excellent drinks, great service and good food. My daughter loved the tortilla soup. I had the fajitas, super filling. Shrimp was good, chicken was a bit small. My husband had a burrito with grilled chicken and hrcreslly liked it. Order the mango margarita blended it us just like in Mexico so good! We only waited 2 minutes. Lots of gorgeous picture spots outside. Great chips and salsa. Fun decorations. Multiple restrooms. I've been coming here since 2017, and Chanty (the owner) and her husband have always been very pleasant. Unfortunately, my experience today was very disappointing because of the hostess, Stormy. When I asked to sit on the patio, she immediately said no because I had a dog. My dog is a service animal and was wearing her service vest. Stormy insisted that unless the dog had a leash she wasn't allowed, and then went on to drill me about what service my dog provides. This is not only unnecessary, but also against ADA guidelines--staff are not permitted to question the specifics of a disability if the service animal is properly identified. Her attitude came across as rude and dismissive, with a smirk on her face the entire time. The restaurant was completely empty, and I would have happily stayed and spent money, as I always do, but instead I left feeling disrespected. It's sad because I've recommended this restaurant to many people over the years whenever they visit Lake Las Vegas. After this experience, I will be letting people know how poorly I was treated by the staff. read more

Came here the other night to eat, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish. First, there was over an hour wait. We asked if they would call or text us when our table was ready, but they told us they don't do that we had to stand outside the entire time and wait for them to yell our name. It seems like they don't have a good system in place for handling busy nights. A waitlist service like OpenTable or SevenRooms would make things much more organized. We decided to come back later instead of standing outside the whole time. When we returned, the blonde haired host sat us at an outdoor table that was completely covered in crumbs. It was obvious the table hadn't been cleaned, and she had to have seen it because the crumbs were right in front of her. She walked away immediately after seating us without saying anything. Thankfully, a kind busser noticed and cleaned the table for us. After that, we waited over 20 minutes, and not a single server or staff member came to greet us, take our drink order, or even acknowledge us. We eventually got up and left. Overall, the lack of organization, communication, and basic customer service made for a very frustrating experience. Unfortunately, I probably won't be coming back. read more

I had Beef Taco and Enchilada combo with rice and beans, all was Delicious and Plentiful. The Salsa & Chips were Good and Spicy. Wife had Chili Relleno which was very good.
