Place is very inconsistent not to mention the meal came out and was plated horrible the Chile Verde just had a plop of verde and a little cheese on top wth just rice next to it. Plenty ugly plating for a 15 dollar meal not to mention slightly warm. We were on of three tables in the place we had ordered guacamole for $10 which is usually made table side that is why it is so much for aside of it and they just brought a bowl out. When asked why they did not make it table side they said they dont do that when they are busy. Again only three tables. These place is only worth the price during lunch dinner is a ripoff for the quality of food. One of the worst plating I have seen. We got a tostada salad which was essentially a bag of cabbage and lettuce with cold chicken and bland dressing with re fried beans spread on a chip. The Sonora salad dressing had a bad taste and the chicken tacos were bland and cold. The corn tortillas also had no flavor. Won't ever go back. Date night is a big deal to this girl. My kids are my world and I love my time with them, but mom and dad need alone time as well. I'm always on the hunt for new date night food, and being a huge fan of Mexican food we decided to give Sonora Grill a try before heading to a movie at the Junction. Sonora is locally owned and has been open since 2008, so I am slightly ashamed I haven't tried it before now. We hopped in fairly late on a Thursday night and the first thing I noticed was our new Mayor Mike Caldwell having a well-deserved dinner at a table around the corner. If it's good enough for the Mayor it must be pretty good, right? We were promptly greeted by our waitress Jessica, and she ran down the drink and starter menu. Their margarita special was a Sangria margarita that I couldn't resist, and I'm so glad- it was quite possibly the best margarita I have ever had (sorry mom!) and affordable. We ordered the freshly made guacamole and we were brought the complimentary chips and salsa as well. The chips are whole tortillas, crispy and delicious, and the salsas were the best I've had in Utah- no question about it. The roasted Chile salsa had a nice smoky flavor and subtle heat, and the tomatillo salsa was fresh and bright. We also asked for a small taste of the habanero which was too hot for me, but the husband enjoyed it quite a bit. In the meantime our guacamole starter arrived and WOW, it was a whole bowl of the freshest most delicious guacamole, I couldn't stop eating- and I am a guacamole snob. I probably wouldnt order it again unless I had a party of 4 or more, since it was a huge portion and we didnt eat it all, and its not worth the expense if you arent going to finish it. It took me a bit to choose what to order- the Menu had at least 10 items on it I wanted to try, but I settled on Carne Asada Tacos, which the menu promised to be authentic and delicious taco cart style tacos. My carne asada tacos were fairly priced and worth every penny, they were stuffed with high quality meat, and there were three on the plate. I'm not dissing the taco carts, but these were the best carne asada tacos I have ever had. The refried beans were delicious and fresh, and while I wasn't a big fan of the rice it did have a good flavor. My husbands Carnitas almost melted in your mouth and the flavor was absolutely wonderful. The coconut rice that came with his plate was to die for, next time I will absolutely substitute that on my plate. I took a peek at the bar on my way in and out and I was impressed. It had cozy benches, a nice long bar, and a relaxed atmosphere. I could see myself enjoying a drink here with friends. Since I wrote this review for IndieOgden, I have gone back with my kids, husband, and sister; and we had a fabulous meal yet again. The kids loved their food and the service was awesome. Granted we went in right before the kitchen closed but everything had so much sugar in it! The server was really nice and suggested a margarita but it was a mix instead of fresh lime, and it was way too sweet so we had to send it back. My salad had pineapple dressing in it which was so syrupy and sweet, the fried tortillas in a basket to serve as "chips" were just meh. This is not a healthy spot by any means, but like I said, the service was good (even if too enthusiastic), and the food was decent - I just left with a blood sugar wayyyy above range. read more

I haven't been here for a while but I used to love eating here. I was very disappointed. I got the flautas which were very heavy and dense. The rice was dry and overseasoned. I love their salsa that comes at the beginning of the meal but our fried tortillas (that you break into chips) were very greasy and flexible. Sonora Grill is one of Ogden's top restaurant choices. My husband and I love to dine in and take out Sonora. The food has been consistently fresh, has unique flavors, and the menu changes with the season rotating favorite dishes to look forward to. The restaurant is always bustling, very clean, and offers a great bar area for dinning as a couple or meeting up with friends after skiing and private dinning options for meetings or intimate gatherings. The service at Sonora is always amazing too, staff are attentive and friendly making you feel like you are their top priority. Back to what really counts the food, here are some of our favorites: My all time fave is the pork carnitas they come with a smokey salsa, are served with a coconut almond rice that makes you feel like you are somewhere tropical and are adorned with bright pickled onions that give the dish a great tang and a pop of color, the pork has a cooked all day flavor and is nice and crispy. My husband loves the chicken floutas they are his happy place go to Friday night craving. I also love the cochita pibil which is a slow cooked pork dish that has warming spices and makes you feel like it came out of a Mexican grandmas kitchen this is my go to in the fall and winter it feels like getting a warm hug. I also love the Sonora salad with buttery avocado and tangy pineapple, and can't leave without talking about the chili reano a cheese lovers paradise lightly breaded and topped with a flavor bursting red sauce that cuts through the goey cheese and spicy pablano. But wait don't pass go without ordering the El Hefe margarita! It is by far our favorite margarita ever and one of the, if not THE best cocktails in O-town. Sonora makes their own Marg mix that is the perfect blend of sweet and sour and tops it with quality tequila and a Brandy float. If nothing else stop for the amazing experience and my favorite snack the chips and salsa, I love to even order their salsa to go it's that addicting. read more

Then a couple of neighbors told us that the menu had changed over the course of the last couple of years. So we went again yesterday and it was fantastic. My wife mentioned that the flautas were the best she has ever had, and I had the chili colorado which was great as well. I went to this place for a family event and while the atmosphere is nice, the food and cocktails are lackluster. I had a serrano margarita and others had mojitos--we all agreed there wasn't an ounce of alcohol in them and they were all rather bland. The food was no different. No an ounce of care went into it's preparation. The mole was bitter and the meat dry. The only highlights were the salsa and guac, but you can get that anywhere.
