My wife and I had a quick meal here tonight before catching a movie across the street. We sat at the bar as we were in a hurry. She ordered the blackened fish tacos, and I got the chili Colorado. The chili Colorado was by far one of the best chili Colorado plates I've ever eaten. The wife said the fish tacos were excellent if a bit spicy, however, she knew they were cooked with habaneros so no surprises there. I wanna give a shout out to the bar tender Fernando! We explained that we were in a hurry and he made sure that we had our chips and salsa out quick, drinks ready to go when we were empty, and food expedited fast. We went so far as to ask him if the they could keep our leftovers until we were done with our movie, and he kindly accommodated us saying they would be waiting for us when we came back. Which they were, all bagged up and ready to go. Good job Sonora team! You've earned a repeat costumer out of me! read more

Amazing!!! Hands down the best Mexican restaurant ever!! High quality, rich depth of flavor, beautiful presentation and atmosphere, very attentive staff, manager on floor and involved...even stopped by and chatted for a few minutes. Pork Tinga, beef taquitios, sopapillas, coconut flan...even the rice was top notch. After first bite thought...totally worth driving over 1 hour from Tooele. I'm grateful I live so far away as I would have no willpower when it comes to this place. Also, check out the Thai Kitchen. Same owner but cafe style. Equally as impressive. I stopped by to get a green papaya salad to eat for lunch the next day. You'll regret not trying this place... read more

This was a fantastic choice, especially for a vegetarian or vegan. I had the avocado tacos which were delicious and different. Not just the same old beans and rice! Such a great restaurant and very friendly and helpful waitstaff!! Highly recommend! read more

Love this place but tonight was a bit disappointing. Despite reservations for 6:30, we watched multiple guests get seated before us and we were seated at 6:45. (We are convinced another party for our table before us) Service was slow and just so-so. Usually they are friendly and fast. Food was good for all four of us. Recommend they have ONE person just go around serving water (after all, we seem to be going through a heat wave!!) Regardless, I tipped handsomely b/c I know times are hard and like I said, I DO love this place read more

I'm a Southern California resident - so right after I was done weaning at my mother's breast, I was fed tacos and guacamole. I've been a Mexican Food lover since I can remember. That said, Utah isn't nearly as desolate as some would have you believe when it comes to GOOD mexican food. That said, there are a lot of really crappy mexican food places in Utah, many of which I've been to. But for all you naysayers who say that there isn't any good mexican food in Utah - take a drive up to Ogden and go here. I had a giftcard so went solely due to that, but I quickly had my mind blown. I now will willingly drive from SLC up to Ogden for this place! The ambiance is great - decor is truly gorgeous. Chips and salsa are a standard - and this place does it well. You get tostada sized chips with two types of salsa - a flavorful fire roasted flavored red salsa and a very tasty cilantro flavored green salsa along with them. I had the Chile Colorado - huge chunks of flavorful, spicy beef with hot (amazing, amazing) tortillas to go with it. My girfriend had the fajitas, and they were some of the most flavorful and unique tasting fajitas I've ever tried. Both dishes got an A+. I've been back once and had one of the taco plates - it was a 4 star dish (not quite 5) and was as before, quite unique and great. Honestly, this place is like no other mexican food place I've been to. You should plan a night around this place, it's completely worth it. read more

Service is good, ambiance is good. Our appetizer was amazing! Got the beef flautas and they were very delicious. I ordered the three small enchiladas, one each of beef, cheese and chicken. This came with rice and beans. Over all the meal was good but nothing out of this world. Presentation on the plate needs more attention. Hubby got fish tacos and he said they were great. Margaritas were good. Only giving 3 stars because for the price, I was expecting stellar food and only got ok food. read more

We stopped here in between activities at the Salomon Center. They bring out chips and salsa for the table. They actually have it advertised outside of the restaurant. Doesn't every sit down Mexican restaurant bring out chips and salsa?! (not exactly a selling point) The chips were good but the salsa was nothing to right home about. This is our second time here. The first time they had a delicious habanero salsa that had its own unique flavor. This time it just seemed like a blend of the two other salsas that they bring out with a little extra spice. We ordered drinks and the trio of ceviche and a sweet pork quesadilla. The quesadilla was mediocre at best. The trio of cerviche was bizarre! It came out in 3 narrow little glasses which made it awkward for sharing. The chipotle seafood was the only ceviche that resembled a true ceviche. The auga chile de camarones was bland and flavorless but it was the tropical swordfish that really weirded me out! It literally tasted like a piña colada with bits of fish in it! It even had a red syrup that looked like the maraschino cherry at the bottom. In other reviews I noticed people referring to it as "dessert cerviche". If that isn't an oxymoron! The website calls the restaurant "authentic Mexican". I would say it is more fusion, but the wrong kind of fusion. Last time I was in Mexico I don't remember seeing any piña colada cerviches. I can see why people like to hang out at this restaurant. The decor is very nice and the service is good, but if you want "authentic Mexican", I suggest heading down to Salt Lake. read more

This place wasn't all that exciting food wise. The decor is nice and the staff was friendly but when my food was delivered it didn't hold to expectation. I ordered a Sangria Margarita, I figured I like both individually why not try this combo? Well I guess there's a reason its supposed to be to separate drinks, it was just not good. Food wise I ordered that Baja Fish Tacos and I expected a taco. Not a breaded fish served on top of thickly sliced onion and bell pepper. All this coupled with high prices mean's we've never returned. read more

This is a great place to take locals and guests alike. Wonderful dining atmosphere, casual bar/lounge area and a nice outdoor patio for the summer. Also large banquet areas are a plus for a company party, etc. The food here is now very consistent and the menu does change from time to time which is nice. The margaritas are pricey but do compliment the meal well. Last time had the Chile relleno and pulled pork. The Chile was perfect- nice crispy breading, but not an overcooked mushy pepper inside. Very tasty. The pork was a bit of a let down, lots of bits of very overcooked pieces. The quantity was sufficient and it didn't take away from the taste, but did have to pull out some bad pieces. The black beans and rice have definitely improved, early on I didn't eat them them but now finish one or the other, or both. Price can easily get to $$$/with a drink, dessert or an appetizer, so its not a frequent place but worth it. read more

The best Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at, maybe the best restaurant, period! This is not "On the Border" bland Tex-Mex, it's highly developed, sophisticated cuisine with Latin flavors. The prices are incredibly low for food of this quality. I'm disappointed that they discontinued the Conchinita Pibil, but not that it was a bit too sophisticated for Ogden. If they ever bring it back, order it...you won't be disappointed. read more

Best Mexican I've had in a long time. I'd reccommend the pork carnitas that come with pickled onions. Everything served at the restaurant is locally grown/raised, and you can tell. Everything is SO fresh, especially the guacamole and sour cream. Great portions; they fill the plate with enough to make you full and satisfied, but not so full that you feel like dying. Fantastic table service. Docked 1 star because of an unfortunate situation. On their website, it says that if you joined their mailing group, you got a free entree. I joined the group prior to coming. When the bill came, I inquired about the free entree. The waitress asked for the coupon. I told her I never recieved a coupon, it was just advertised on their website and I did what was required. They said to try it again on my phone, and I did, but it says I was already registered (still no coupon.) I ended up paying for an entree that would have been free had their web service been working correctly. read more

Disappointing. It was a Monday night about 7 pm and the place was not too busy. Waitress was friendly and helpful but had to be reminded to bring water three times. Beer from tap was flat and the advertised 16oz bottle turned out to be a 12oz can. Tried the taquito appetizer; the flavor was there but the tortilla was a dry chewy pigs ear meant for a dog. Went for the Cochinita Pibil specialty. This was barely warm when it got to me. The corn tortillas on the side were the same as the pig ears used for the beef taquitos - dry and rubbery - obviously not freshly warmed. read more

I love everything about Sonora Grill. The guacamole is the best! I was in Arizona for almost two years and tried to find good Mexican food but nothing compared to Sonora Grill. So glad to be back. The servers are attentive, friendly, and well mannered. I have several favorites dishes but keep going back and trying new things! Everything is so good! I love the burritos, quesadillas, chili rellenos, enchiladas, taquitos, flautas, fajitas, tacos, chili verde, salads, desserts, and more. I have tried them all! read more

Good place. Great service. Decent food. Had a good (but weak margarita and green Chile pork). Wife has shrimp dish... quality by Utah seafood standards. Staff was awesome read more

I went here for my birthday for the first time. The food was delicious!! Big portions with a twist from regular Mexican food. Loved it!

Good ambience, decent food and good service. If you are looking for decent south of the border food then this is a good place in Ogden. Love the margarita here, they have some good mixed drinks. The dessert not so great something you can skip. The soup is amazing and the vegan tostada is yummy as well. A good place but can do better. The Arozz Con Pollo looked very different then others I have had but it was delicious. I would go here again. read more

Four stars for the awesome service we received. I love good service and it's a huge factor whether I choose to go back to a place or not. Although our waiter was fantastic the food fell short for us. It could have been an off day but I would just say "meh." Good but mediocre compared to other spots I have been to in Utah. I was disappointed that our appetizer was better than our entrees. Bummer that all of the good reviews I read didn't mirror our experience. I suppose we all can't have similar tastes. Props to the great staff though. read more

Probably really 3.5 stars - your experience at Sonora Grill depends a lot on what you order. At worst, it's just ok, but if you order something they do well, it's great. Of the things I've tried, the stand-outs have been the tuna ceviche (the deft combination of flavors really makes this dish), the beef fajita (excellent seasoning), and the flautas. The decor and seating is very nice, making this a pleasant place to go for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately, like all good Mexican restaurants I've been to, they do have highly questionable taste in music. read more

Super delicious! They made queso at our table that was a new experience! I got pork with coconut rice and i loved all of it, even the rice I rarely ever actually eat rice at Mexican restaurants but this was delicious! The service was really great and attentive! Went for restraunt week , good service good sized portions, mole fries are amazing. Definitely going back .

The restaurant environment is cozy and the 1/2 circle tables are different. Not the seating I expected, but it was a nice change of pace. The complimentary LARGE, round, corn tortillas were crisp, lightly salted, and tasty and appreciated after a day of traveling around Salt Lake and up to Ogden. I agree with previous statements regarding the salsas and think they could definitely be improved. That said, this restaurant was *excellent*! I had the chile rellenos and - wow. So cheesy and FINALLY a spicy pepper for once! The sides of beans, rice, and guac were also excellent. I was so over-stuffed from the chips that I decided to save half of my dinner. I was devastated 2 days later when I went to eat it and discovered that the mini-fridge in our hotel room was off. GASP! (insert multiple sad faces here). Only complaint: the hostess seemed to be lost in the restaurant the first few minutes we were standing around up front. But we were seated promptly after she returned. I would definitely return. read more

First off, I wouldn't call this place "Mexican food", it's more of a fusion restaurant, with Mexican and...something else. But it certainly was tasty. I had chile verde, and it was really good. But the flour tortillas were ok. I saw people making them in the restaurant, but for some reason mine tasted as if they were a day old. My service was fantastic. But it was a bit odd that we were not greeted immediately at the door by a host. We were directed by signs that said, "to host." I just followed orders. My only real quip was the price. 9.95 for a side order of guacamole? It doesn't cost that much for 2 avocados and some onions and tomatoes, no matter how good it is. All in all, I would visit again....if somebody paid for my meal. read more

I was not impressed. We ordered the guacamole trio for a starter. I would say the choices were interesting but none of them were that great. The best one was the pineapple mix. It at least had some flavor. I ordered the enchiladas with green sauce. Now my husband would say I'm a wimp, but I can mostly handle a jalapeño but not hotter. The green sauce was supposed to be mild but it was so hot I literally could not eat it. I'm glad we had some of the pineapple guacamole because it saved me. So I tried the chicken quesadilla. It seemed safe. But there was just no flavor. I went from crazy hot to nothing at all. It was so disappointing. The quesadilla probably could have been perfect for a little kid. Hey, who knows, maybe they made it that way because of my problem with the green sauce. My husband enjoyed his meal... But seriously I have made better Mexican dishes at home with half the ingredients. I won't bother to return. read more

After hearing people rave about this place, I decided to try it... And it was just "eh...okay". The wait was long and the food wasn't to my liking. Also, the hostess was such a brat, I had to bite my tongue. However, the restaurant itself is pretty awesome, much nicer than I had expected in the heart of downtown Ogden. I most definitely will not be going here again, unless it's for a family function or work party... But I think my family and friends have better taste than this:) read more

Nice atmosphere but rude server's. They apparently can't handle a big sitting of people. Horrible bar tending. Didn't even know what makers mark was and had a attitude towards patrons. Frankey the managers should be fired. He is not fit to supervise anyone. There was a lot of firefighters there trying to relax and enjoy but most employees felt put out with the added patrons in this place. I'm appalled and as a local will never come back here. Spoiler alert... it's not about your business making money it about your business supporting our local firefighters. read more

I've been going to Sonora Grill since they opened and my opinion has been dropping recently. When they opened I would have given them a 5. The ambiance is great and the hosts and serves are very upbeat and prompt with service. The decor is spot on and the booths are the perfect size to make you feel like no one else is around you. When my boyfriend and I first started going to Sonora we had three things that were a staple and always ordered. The first was a start of their guacomole, it is prepared for you at your table by a manager so you can put as little or as much of something in it. Perfect for us since we like a little more heat. There table salsas are wonderful but my favorite is the roasted tomato one, great firey flavor to it. The next thing we would order was an appetizer of Calimari. This was by far the best calimari we have ever had and we get calimari everywhere we eat at. It was breaded in corn meal which made it lighter than most calimari... but don't get your hops up because they have since removed it from the menu. Not enough people were ordering it for them to keep it they said... too bad minus 1 for Sonora. The next thing that we would order was the Seafood Chilli Rieno. It was this delicious combination of shrimp, scallops, white fish stuffed into a prefect little chili wrapped finished with this amazing sauce and a side of rice and veggies. This was something that my boyfriend dreamed about while he was deployed and when he got home was one of the first meals he requested. Unfortunalty when we went in, they no longer serve it and instead have just a shrimp Chili Rieno. Minus 2 Sonora grill. They have since managed to get a point back for having drink specials through out the week (although not great, still good for Utah) and Their Fire roasted corn which is pretty awesome. The managers are all very plesent and usually willing to talk to the patrons and even give you a free be here and there which is a plus. It's a good date night dinner, but i just wish they would stop changing so much. read more

So I went for dinner by myself... I walked in straight to the bar... The bar was empty... Draft beer very cold! Red sauce with tortilla chips was wonderful! The sauce is awesome! Very tasty! Then I had the fresh guacamole which was super tasty! Portions: a lot! Then I had the carnitas norteña!!!! OMG! Sper flavorful, tasty and big plate! The bartender was great! Very sociable! Great service... Very earned tip for him... I did noticed the ambient was a little boring at the bar well there was nobody to talk to... Excellent mexican food! Very recommended! Im giving 4 star just because the bar was empty and boring... Everything else was wonderful! read more

Not a great experience. We've dined here in the past, they have changed their me menu. No complimentary chips and salsa. No side items with your entree. I went there to get their amazing shrimp tacos, but they took them off the menu. I was super bummed. I asked how spicy the chipotle shrimp tostada was, our server said "2-3 on a 10 scale". When my dish came out it looked really good, but it was SO SPICY!! More like a 7 on a 10 scale. It was burning my mouth. Our server only checked on us towards the end of our meal. I told him how spicy it was. He handed me a menu and asked if I wanted to order something else. I wasn't about to pay for another meal. It wasn't very good to begin with. I switched with my husband because he likes spicy, but it was too hot for him, too. There wasn't any apology or wanting to make it right. Just here, order something else. Our server was so chill about it all. We won't be going back. read more

Love the crispy shrimp tacos and guacamole. If I'm ever required to pick a last meal this will be the place I order from. Love the lime salsa as well. The carnitas are also the bomb. Wife loves their salads and Chile verde. Love the daily agua fresca drinks. This is a great place. read more

This was not a great Mexican restaurant. We decided to wander in based on the mixed reviews on here and I was disappointed. Being from Texas, I eat a lot of Tex Mex and Mexican food and I'm not sure what this was. The salsa had no flavor or kick to it (and we ordered the habanero salsa too). I ordered a whiskey coke and they put cheap whiskey (it tasted horrible) and charged me 7 dollars. Not worth it at all. I ordered their pretty plain beef tacos and they were delicious. The meat had more of a pulled beef brisket flavor to it with a gravy, which was delicious, but not really Mexican. Our server was mediocre and the seating arrangements are a bit funny and I felt like we were close and forced to stare at other tables the way they seated everyone. I wouldn't go back. read more

I hesitate to write this simply because I don't want to recommend it per se. I'm selfish and like the I've never had to wait longer than 10 min for a table. With that said, I love this place! Probably the best guacamole within an hour radius. Delish. Not my favorite chips/salsa but still good. Entrees really good! I usually get the shrimp chile rellanos. The carnitas are also delicious. I had a coffee cheesecake once. I will say I'll never order that again . Disappointing. Overall really good! We go here often and I'd highly recommend it! read more

We started with half price table side fresh made guacamole that was absolutely excellent. Thanks to Yelp for the coupon. They bring huge warm chips and two salsa choices anyway. I had fish tacos and my hubby the sweet pork ones. Both were excellent but huge plates. I took the fish out of the deep fried breading and enjoyed it with the slaw. We could have shared one plate and the appetizer. Each plate had three tacos each with two tortillas plus beans and rice. My favorite was the coleslaw. They have some fun and unusual dishes that you don't find at Costa Veda. As we were leaving, the manager was cooking up what looked like blackened fish, that made a wonderful smell even though we were full. The manager took our drink orders because the server was busy with several tables, and so the service was quick. Our food came before we had even finished eating our guacamole. read more

This place never fails to amaze me in quality and service. I love the way they operate their business they really care about their product and atmosphere is always relaxing and amazing. Delicious fresh Mexican food. I absolutely love the fried avocado tacos and the fried avocado salad. Meat free options! 10/10 recommend.

This place is pretty good. The margaritas are delicious and the food is pretty good. It isn't amazing but it's good. Service was great.

Great take out! Food was hot when we picked it up, lots of left overs too. Great customer service.

I selected Sonora Grill shortly after checking into my motel after a long day of driving. I love Mexican food, SG had a solid yelp rating so how could I go wrong. I did takeout. The online ordering and payment was convent, simple, and the menu explained the dishes well. When I walked to the restaurant and went in, I thought it was a chain (based on appearances). This disappointed me because generally I think chains are lame and I prefer to support mom/pops. The place was clean. staff appeared to be practicing cdc Covid guidelines well (bonus). The meal was ready when I got there (very timely). Pro tip: On my walk back to motel I picked up a couple to go beers from the brewery down the street. When I finally got to eat (I was super hungry) I thought it was just pretty good, and I still got the chain vibe. I defiantly didn't have a, "wow this is authentic" vibe. That said, it wasn't bad. Price was a little steep in my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make it in. It seems like this style of Mexican restaurant is a hit for a lot of Gringos. This gringo, prefers a more authenticity. read more
