I was searching for an eBike and my neighbor (an avid cyclist) recommended that I speak to Brent at Sonora Cyclery. I met with Brent and he provided a background on eBikes vs traditional human powered bikes. I told Brent how i would use the bike and he encouraged me to test drive the two models he had in the store. After the test drive, I was sold! I picked up the bike the next day and had a small accident that resulted in a broken brake cable. I dropped the bike off on a Saturday to be repaired. Brent called me on the following Monday (store was closed) and told me he looked over the bike and would have it ready for pick up in 48 hours. Today I went into Sonora Cyclery for the first time. Great selection, quality merch. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Originally I wanted to put some new tires on an older bike that was given to me from a friend. It was close to closing time but the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, spending a good amount of time and detail looking over the old bike. It needed too much to get it back to its prime so I decided to finance a new bike since I really wanted to get going on my new hobby. I came in riding on my (road) bike huffing and puffing on some of these hills around here and these guys helped me out with a few things to make it even better. All they did was change out my pedals which is super easy and I got an emergency flat tire kit since you never know when you go flat along the way. I went in to order a new crankset for my mountain bike, and when it arrived in the store, Brent offered to pull the old one for me since I did not have the required crank puller tool at home. Since this isn't something I plan on doing all the time, it was nice not to have to purchase it. He also offered to remove my cassette because again, I did not want to purchase a chain whip tool for one-time use. He was very helpful in helping me to determine which crankset and cassette would work for my bike, and I was very happy with the results. I will be taking my bike to them whenever there's anything too difficult or tedious for me to fix myself. I can't recommend them enough! read more

My road bike has ~75,000 miles on it. I moved to this area a couple years ago from Santa Cruz, and the bike was always professionally maintained there by very competent bike shops. Parts such as the cluster and middle chain ring were regularly replaced as needed. Shortly after moving here I had a ~$350 tune up done at OBS. I was surprised they didn't replace the cluster, and when I asked about it, they said it wasn't needed. Recently I took the bike back to OBS for a new chain and told them to check the cluster. They put on the new chain but not a cluster. When I got home and rode the bike, it skipped so badly I couldn't shift gears riding up the smallest of hills. OBS must not have ridden the bike! I then took the bike to Sonora Cyclery. Brent rode the bike around the parking lot and said, "Yelp, new chain and worn cluster". When he examined the bike on the stand he found that the middle chain ring was pretty worn. After the new chain ring arrived he called me and said that it was shifting "O.K." but the derailleurs were worn (no surprised, they were the original ones), and if I want the bike to shift like new, they should be replaced. They were replaced, and it does shift like a new bike! This is the type of professional service I expect and appreciate in a bike ship. read more

Very friendly mechanics helped us out with our bikes as we were travelling through. We bought bike shorts and a new saddle, which they installed at no charge. They also tuned my rear derailleur a bit, making it run smoothly again, after I had some alignment issues earlier. Again, at no charge. This would be my go-to bike shop if I lived in the area. read more

I took my 30 year old, hand-built recumbent to Sonora Cyclery to get it tuned up and replace the front derailleur because the cable locking screw threads were stripped. The newer derailleurs don't work because my cable lock is attached to my derailleur and not my frame, so they tapped a new thread and all is good again. Being hand built, they ran into a number of difficulties along the way but found solutions to each one. The ole recumbent is back on the road again and doing great. These guys are easy to work with and do their best to help out the customer. I highly recommend them. read more
