I decided to give up on my 25 + year old road bike and buy a new one, even though Kevin's Bikes was able to fix what my local bike shop couldn't! It was just time to get something more manageable for my physical situation and location. Tyler answered my (somewhat ignorant) questions and compared options for me, both in the shop and on the phone. He took the time to figure out what will realistically work for me, yet still allow me to have some challenging rides when I choose to. I picked up the bike today and once again he took the time to dial in all the details and allow time for questions while I tested it. And all of this during their very busy Christmas season! had a bad experience years ago so took our business to Modesto fun work. Wanted to give them another chance to earn our business but again fell through. Was given a completion date for full service of a bike only to be told it won't be ready. When asked why was told they had to service other bikes that came in. So not sure what that means. Is there some kind of special program where others get preferential treatment. My bike has been sitting in their shop and the only reason they are now starting on it is because my wife gave them an earful of how that was a complete bs reason. sorry Kevin but we're going back to Modesto with all our bikes and needs again. read more

This place did a fantastic job changing the tube tires for my bike and they have great customer service. I would recommend calling in ahead of time to see whats their pricing/the time to fix your bike/Etc. They charged a reasonable price for labor and for the tube tires I purchased in the store. Since I only purchased tubes for one bike, I found it cheaper to buy in store than amazon/online. Im glad I found this place! For a local business I would recommend giving them a try! read more

Excellent repair service on my 2018 Tarmac's broken derailleur. This is a knowledgeable repair team and I'm very happy with the work they recently performed on my Ultegra drivetrain. I brought my bike in before a big bike-packing trip and was assured that a bike packing enthusiast employee would work on it. Great! Unfortunately it still skipped gears when I got it back. One might ask "Why didn't you tell them right away?" Yeah, I wish. But I live 2 and a half hours from them and to complain takes effort and bringing the bike back and listening to explanations and as a woman, yeah, not worth it. It arrived less than a week after he ordered it and was assembled as soon as it arrived. When we went to go pick it up, we were warmly greeted and they brought my bike out right away. I had my bike about three time in six week I know they are back up but I jest can't say that much for the quality of the repair.had a couple of spokes installed and they did a very poor job of trueing my rear wheel. It seem to me that they jest rush the job to get it done, but now I need to have it done again,I won't be using them.the prices they charge are not bad but the quality is not there. read more

For the best selection of bicycles in town, Kevin's is the place to go. There are Road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers, kid's bikes, and specialty bikes. The store also does repairs in a timely fashion, and sells accessories. The staff are friendly and the owner seems to know a lot about bikes (I hear he's a cyclist). I helped my friend buy a cruiser with a basket there, and I've gotten accessories there. Not uber-cheap, but affordable. read more

Located smack dab in the middle of Merced, Kevin's bikes, to me, has always been a helpful and reasonably priced place for bike repairs and products.Very clean and well lighted, it's half new bike show room half repair center. Got a wheel balanced her for a tad over 15 as well as a handful of tubes for less then 5 each. Got a free lecture about the importance of proper inflation and placement of tire liners to prevent my numerous blowouts at the same time. And I always see them sponsoring community events and hosting bike rides around town for causes and for fun. read more

Kevin's Bikes is definitely one of the best bike shops in the valley just based on their customer service, Kevin and his wife are always there every time I go in and are both very helpful. I went in looking for a midrange mountain bike based off of my friends advice and ending up buying a 2010 specialized rockhopper. They had it out on the floor for $730 and Kevin ended up giving it to me for $650 due to the new 2011 models coming out soon, he also put it on layaway for me which was awesome because I didnt have to worry about someone else buying it while I saved up the money. Their prices are a little higher than online stores but their price matching and lifetime tune up of their bikes more than make up for it. The day I went in to pick up the bike Kevin made sure it was tuned up and ready to ride and later the same day I took it out for its first trail riding. I have since purchased new pedals from Kevin's with the help of one of the younger guys in the shop and he recommended some great pedals which I now love. I plan on going back for most of my parts and service needs. Kevin's is awesome. read more

I really appreciate all concerns that Kevin and Kevin's Bike folks do for the community of Merced. You maybe can't find all models of Giant or Specialized bikes which you are looking for at store, but Kevin easily will order for you. Prices are more or less around MSRP of factory, but instead once you buy the bike, they will give all services of gear and brake adjustment for free forever! They are really helpful when you have question or you want a test ride. I bought a Giant Escape City today with a deal from Kevin and he was kindly answering my continues questions about every thing! So it's not because you are living at Merced and you HAVE TO buy from the only Bike store here, it's because of attitude of Kevin that I recommend his store. read more

I took 2 KHS bikes into Kevin's Bike shop early Tuesday afternoon and I received a call they were done on Wednesday morning!! Where does this ever happen?? Dwight greeted us and we told him what the problems were on each bike. Dwight told me he would examine the bikes and would call me with an estimate. He called within an hour with what I believed was a very reasonable estimate (much lower than I anticipated). This is my first time using Kevin's and won't be the last time. Outstanding service! I read all the reviews here before taking my bike into the shop to have some minor repairs and a tune up done. I found the weekend staff to be extremely friendly and acknowledged my presence in the store immediately and asked if there was anything they could help me with. The made the necessary repairs to my bike, performed a routine tune up and then test drove my bike to make sure everything was working properly. All of this was done and my bike returned on a Saturday afternoon. I will definitely be back and will recommend Kevin's to everyone I know in town. read more

I was surprised they wanted to keep the bike overnight, but they ended up doing it on the spot. I took my bike to get tuned up and new tubes on June 30th and was told they were backed up and It'd be ready July 9th. I completely understood and had no problem, I dropped my bike off after getting a detailed explanation of what they were going to do. It was all good. Then July 9th comes around and I hear nothing. I assume they might not be done. Trying to be a good customer and sensitive to the Covid closures I wait until Friday July 17th to call and check in on my bike. They tell me it's been ready since July 3rd and they tried to call me. Except I had no messages or missed calls. I even checked my bill to double check. They didn't apologize or acknowledge there was a mistake or oversight on their part at all. I was shocked that they wouldn't have made at least a second attempt to call me again and actually leave a message! I went to go pick up my bike that day and everything was fine. The bike rides great again so I'm happy with the work. Just felt incredibly disappointed that I could have been using and riding my bike for 2 weeks instead of waiting around for a call that probably wouldn't have come. read more

I've been shopping for a road bike for over 3 weeks in the Bay Area. I'm originally from Merced and my sister recommended Kevin's Bikes because she's had good experiences with them. Upon arrival my nephew and I were greeted cautiously and the young gentlemen that helped us was very helpful. After selecting a couple of bikes for possible purchase I was ready to take them out for a test ride. As we were walking out of the store a lady came all the way from the back of the store to tell us that we could not take two bikes out at a time (mind you that the other bike did not even have pedals installed). I immediately felt like we were prejudicially targeted. I asked the young gentlemen about this policy and he stated he had never heard of such policy. My girlfriend and I have been to various bike shops and tested bikes at the same time without a problem. One would expect that if you are getting ready to invest $2-3k on a bike you would receive stellar service. I most definitely will never recommend this place to any of my friends and family and I will have my sister stop buying from them. I've had plenty of bike shop experiences to say that Kevin's bikes was the worst experience. read more
