I love this store! They truly have anything and everything you never knew you were looking for. The garden center is very large with a beautiful selection and they also sell an impressive amount of Yeti products in every size imaginable. The staff is always friendly and helpful. What you want when you need it. That should be the motto here. Over the years I have purchased phone poles to lawn furniture always with good results. Recently they had some outdoor patio items on sale in the Sunday circular however they were closed on Sunday. They honored the add with a smile and questions asked. Place has been here as long as I can remember and I stop in weekly since moving to Hilmar 10 years ago. Great selection of tools and they have just about anything you would need to fix stuff up around the house. They have a good selection of lumber and they also have a rental center stocked with various tools, tables, chairs and even heavy equipment (bobcat's, forklifts. etc). You can even bring your dog in and they'll give them a treat so they have something to snack on while following you around the store. My only gripe is that they are closed on Sundays which sucks because then I have to go to Turlock if I need a hardware item (hence the 4 star rating). read more

You can't beat the customer service here. I've had no fewer than 4 employees ask me if I needed any help just on my way to the back of the store. One thing I like is that they will cut just about anything to the size you need at very little extra cost. For example, I needed two lengths of black pipe of a specific length with the threads on both ends. They cut them to the exact length and threaded them for me then and there. I have also purchased replacement panes of glass for windows which they cut to the size I needed for about 1/2 the cost of an actual glass shop. They have most basic "hardware store" items at prices that are about 10% to 15% higher than Home Depot or Lowes. But usually the gas I save in not driving to Turlock pays for that. And the selection isn't nearly as broad for these types of things. You'll find one or two options on the type of bolt you need here, but five or six options at Home Depot. That has sent me to HD several times. I appreciate the wide variety of specialty materials they carry in the way of building materials. To top it off, they have a pretty good rental center too. Most of the power tools you'd need to rent. They also rent scissor lifts and other large equipment too. Nice one-stop-shop place. read more

I concur with all the other rave reviews. Locally owned, and the staff is very well trained. Of course the selection of good staff is great as well. If you have a question you might even talk to the owner. The selection is unbelievable for what you think is a small store. It's huge and has many more items than a big box store. Incredibly more items ! ! ! My new favorite store and I don't mind the extra 10 minutes to Hilmar. If you need help, you don't have to look for it, you will be asked within seconds of arriving. Hilmar Lumber has a great Rental place. They rates were cheaper than the Volvo, United Rentals, etc. I called arround. Then when the the boom lift got to my site (on time) the driver looked it over since it came from another site. He noticed the right side mirror was broken. Told me about it. Showed me how everything works. I rented it for a week rate, but finished in 2 1/2 days. Then when I called for the pick up, they only charged me for 2 days since the mirror was damaged and deducted $50 of delivery on thier own. I did not half to argue or anything. They justified it on their own. When have you herd of that!!!!!!!! They only charged me $ 150 delivery from Hilmar to Oakdale. Will recommend they to everyone. This place is a complete joke!!! Not even worth a rating !!!Customer service is by far the worst I've ever experienced!!! Jerry is a complete idiot!!! I drove over 40 miles to purchase some fencing and not only did they try to charge me 4.50 per board ( priced at 3.99) which is $1 more than anywhere else in the state they through a bunch of shit that looked like pixie sticks on my truck ..I tried to change the boards that were split in half and chunked by a not so good forklift driver and was told no lumber selecting ...hes buying bs lumber for obvious reasons he get a huge discount then try's to sell it for insanely high price ...with NO consideration for customers!!! I guarantee you his house is not built with this shit !!! This was my first and last experience with this store !! Ace would be smart to drop them because as of today I will never even buy a single nail from any ACE either ...I would rather quit building then give them a penny!!! Horrible experience I went in today with my dogs which have been there a million times and Anne would give them a ton of treats now don't welcome my dogs and I. They constantly harassed me and not just one employee but three. They ended up not having what I needed but they were rude and disruptive when a man I know was trying to talk to me as he offered me help. I've spent A LOT of money there and they all know me as well as my dogs just to treat us as trash when my dogs always looked forward to going there. Completely disrespectful. read more
