From the moment I stepped inside Sonoma Spice Queen, I was surrounded by the inviting aroma of a thousand good things. It's clear that Sonoma Spice Queen takes the saying 'variety is the spice of life' to heart by handcrafting an assortment of small ‑batch organic spice blends right on-site. I was also intrigued by their tea blends and mixes, some which, according to the kind staff member who patiently answered all my questions, could be enjoyed with just about anything except animal milk. Sonoma Spice Queen makes beautiful gift boxes filled with spices and other local delights like honey and jam, perfect for sharing the love. Your recipient will be thrilled and deeply grateful for your thoughtfulness! read more

Stepping in the front doors of Sonoma Spice Queen will inspire you to daydream about new culinary adventures! Service is friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is clean and well-organized with fun bird decor (really they should sell those paintings!). I was mesmerized by the Anju Indian Chai mix and picked up some along with a recipe card to try at home. The chai is flavorful and blended well with my decaf black tea and unsweetened almond milk at home. Though, the next time I make it I may double the spice! I also purchased the hibiscus flower tea (delicious) and the Tuscan herb and tomato mix which I'm giving to a friend for a birthday - should have bought two! Definitely going to need to place an order online now that I'm back home in San Diego. read more

I rarely Yelp someone because we expect good service and quality when we spend our money on something. BUT, Sonoma Spice Queen impressed me SO much that she needs a shout out! Shopping in a grocery store for various spices needed in a recipe adds up when you need 5 different kinds, especially organic! I just opened a tin of Wind's Diablo Verde Chili Mix and it was overflowing! Packed full of 8 different organic spices that I needed for my recipe. Everything in one tin! It made my recipe taste like perfection. Her shop smells amazing and there are many enticing choices so be prepared to leave with more than just a few items. Added plus: Wind, the proprietress, is extremely nice. A+ read more

My spice store closed two years ago. I had not been able to find anything like it until . . . we were driving through Petaluma and I made my husband stop the car and let me out. I had seen the word 'Spice' on their sign and felt compelled to go in. I met the owner, Wind, and we became fast friends. She is so kind and knowledge about every item in her store.. I purchased spices, hot cocoa mixes, teas and other gifts. I will be back soon for more. Her spices are organic and fresh. I love the tins they come in! Thanks Wind, your store is clean, organized, uncrowded and fun! read more

Beautiful new location right downtown. Giant selection of spices and blends (the Curry blends are killin') and everything needed to level-up your kitchen skills like the pros. The service is phenomenal, friendly, and always helpful. Much love for The Queen! read more

So I have heard from so many people about Sonoma Spice Queen but have never ventured to the West side of town to check it out until today. And I will say that this place is awesome!! The minute I walked into the shop I was in Heaven as the aroma of all the spices just filled the air and it smelled soooooo good! I was warmly greeted by the young lady who was working today (sadly I wish I had gotten her name but alas I didn't and today was her last day). I had mentioned that I had never been in there so she should me around in the front pointing out the different spices. Then she took me to the back room which was much larger with so many spices I was in awe. I really didn't need anything but wanted to check the place out and possibly get a few items for an advent calendar I'm making. I really had to stop myself from buying the whole place out. Not only does she carry her own spices, rubs, salts & teas, that she makes right there on the premises, but she carries other local items such as O olive oil & vinegars, McEvoy Ranch olive oils, mustards and jams, Lala's Jams, local honey & local candies. And there are even some premade gift packages to help make it easier if you're looking for a gift bundle. I now know why everyone raves about this place. I bought several items, some of which was for myself and with my Yelp check-in I got 10% off my purchase. I look forward to supporting this wonderful business. read more

This is one of my favorite local shops and I am obsessed with most of her products. My favorites right now are the cherrywood smoked salt, the vanilla flavored sugar and her one with chipotle I can't think of the name of lol. Today I made muffins and used the vanilla sugar and it was exactly why they needed. I also love the owner, she really cares about her customers and it shows in the quality of her products. read more

Great place to get your spices and such. They have pretty well everything you will need, and from what I can tell, it is all organic. The things that I bought there are all fantastic; great quality ground cardamom, clove and cinnamon. They also have a few things from Rancho Gordo, Tea and Trumpets, and some other local places. Wind was very friendly and helpful, and can answer any questions about her products. The product is easy to shop, and well presented. Go here when it's time to bake, or make chili, or whatever you're doing when in need of some fantastic spices and things. read more

Sugar and spice, and all things nice. What's not to love about this new, spice shop. First of all, this ain't no Williams-Sonoma or Sur la Table. In fact, this place looks/feels more like someone's living room/kitchen. The shop was launched by the Sonoma Spice Queen herself - Wind McAlister. After years of selling goods at local Farmers Markets and the like, her majesty decided to settle on a permanent brick & mortar throne. This shop is clearly a labor of love. And it's also the nicest smelling store I have ever been to in my life. It's almost sensory overload. If you love to cook, this place has it all. From hand crafted organic spice mixes & rubs to exotic teas. Even if you don't cook, but you have a loved one who does, this store is worth a visit. You could easily do all your holiday shopping here. Lots of stocking stuffers can be found at Sonoma Spice Queen. I wound up walking away with a tin can of Moroccan Spice Mix and a bottle of Cyprus Lemon Salt. Best of all, both items cost me less than $20. Try finding a deal like that at Williams-Sonoma or your local cooking retailer. Sonoma Spice Queen gets a big thumbs-up from me! read more

I finally got a chance to go in to Sonoma Spice Queen. It is more than worth it. Petaluma has no real spice shop and Sonoma Spice Queen exactly fits the bill. The space is lovely and much bigger than you'd realize from the outside. The spices are gorgeously packaged. And, in case you made the same assumption I did, there is a LOT more than mixes and spice rubs here. There is local vinegar and hot sauce, individual spices (both whole and ground) as well as amazing salts. She carries everything you'd need for a well stock herb and spice cabinet. Wind herself, is a treasure. She will more than happily help you find something, walk you through, explain various herbs and mixes to you. The bottles are a bit more than you'll pay at Safeway for sure, but when you get them home, you'll realize they are about six times as potent as anything you'd buy at a big grocery. I've cut how much garlic powder I use because what I bought is so fresh and so garlicky! This store is a super addition to Petaluma's burgeoning culinary scene. I've said I wanted a spice shop in town for a long time and well, sometimes dreams do come true! Stop by, meet Wind and make your next meal, cake or cookies sing! read more

This is a business so exceptional it is worth driving to Petaluma to visit! The Spice Queen carries amazing blended spices that are put together in house with the best organic ingredients, no added fillers like MSG, gluten, etc., and exceptional culinary taste (and talent). If you are a cooking enthusiast or just starting out in the kitchen, you could benefit from these wonderful spices. As an added bonus, the location is downtown and housed in a beautiful space on the ground floor of a lovely Victorian building. I urge you to check it out! The spices can make excellent gifts and stocking stuffers too! read more

Sonoma Spice Queen is locally owned and her fresh, high-quality spice mixes are handcrafted from organic ingredients and without fillers. Spice mixes, like the "Bodega Bay Seafood" mix are salt and sugar free and rubs, including "BBQ" and "Java and Spice" can be made-to-order without salt and / or sugar. The Chili Mix is my go-to Chili "powder." It boasts a rich, smokey aroma and the authentic taste of Mexican Oregano. I'm all-in on the versatile "Italian Herb and Garlic" mix for meat, pasta, pizza, eggs and stirred in olive oil as a dip. It has organic oregano, rosemary, parsley, basil and garlic, but the touch of red-pepper flakes is what has me hooked. Sonoma Spice Queen offers individual spices, mixes, rubs, artisan salts and the kind of gift packs I'm always hoping to receive. The retail store is closed during Shelter in Place, but the online shop is open for shipping and FREE local delivery. read more

I was given the pumpkin spice as a Christmas gift last year which we loved and recently finished. Upon receiving information from my coworker whom gave it to me where I could purchase more, we decided to check out the shop. So impressed. The spices are all organic and do not include any additives, which is extremely important to me when purchasing spices or any food for that matter. The shop is super cute and the owners were warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. I am very happy with my purchase. Definitely could have purchased many more spices than I did as they have a wonderful collection and so many to choose from. I anticipate going back in the near future for more spices. read more

What a find!! I live right here in town and wish I had found this place as soon as it opened. Unassuming front but inside it's beautiful and full of amazing smelling spices!! The spice blends especially smell great - there's a version of Old Bay which I had to get and then go home and throw out my old can. Sounds sacrilegious as an east coaster, I know, but that's how good it smells. I got a friend a jar of long black peppercorns which I had never seen before. Paired it with a cookbook from Copperfield's - great birthday gift! Can't recommend this place highly enough, looking forward to slowly revamping my spice cabinet with all of her specially sourced spices! read more
