Genuinely one of the worst experiences I've had at a sit down restaurant. The food was just ok, but the service was absolutely atrocious. Our server never introduced himself, and we didn't get waters for almost 10 minutes. When we finally got waters, our server asked, "What do you want." It felt very rude and uninviting, and combined with mediocre food made the experience extremely disappointing. I brought hubby here for a birthday dinner and this place did not disappoint! It was a cute place, very chill. Everything on the menu was absolutely delicious! The chicken skewers and edamame was so good. I don't really remember all the correct names of all the food items but it was so good! The bbq grill was definitely our favorite dish! Their special sushi roles are legitimately the best I've ever had. And I've been eating sushi my whole life. You can't go wrong with them.

My friend used to come here with her dad when she was young, and she was excited to take us to Sono after a few years since her last visit. This place deserves a five star not only because of the fond memories, but also for its amazing food & service! We got ramen bowls, miso soup and two rolls to share (between the three of us). The broth for spicy miso was both sophisticated and actually SPICY (more than average ramen shop in the US), which was really hitting the spot on a winter night. My friend's veggie ramen has a thicker style of ramen, but tasted homemade and flavorful. We got diablo roll (crispy) and the shrimp meets mango roll (refreshing and subtle mango flavor, great for summer), loved both! Each roll comes with 8 pieces, tastes very fresh, and they are able to make adjustment for the ingredients (we did not want cream cheese inside). It's a busy night, the wait was a bit long but our server was so sweet and apologetic- also, so glad I had my friends there because they were fun and didn't make the wait feel long at all! Also, the price was very, very reasonable for the portion they serve. Will be back here soon, highly recommend this place!! It was a long day and I needed a good ramen fix. Thank god I came to Sono Sushi because they served me one of the best Ramen I have ever had in NC. The flavor of the broth and the crispy pork belly was so full of flavor that happy tears literally rolled down my cheeks (it wasn't because of the chili sauce ) The service was great and the restaurant is filled with really cool Japanese murals. The food was absolutely amazing as well as the atmosphere. If you are a carnivore, I highly recommend The Ribeye, it was cooked perfectly and I had leftovers, which is always a good thing. You could do lunch with a colleague, or dinner with a friend, it's not too loud, there is ample seating inside, and a full bar. The gyoza appetizer was light, fresh and cooked well. The Dancing Eel roll was amazing, and the flavor was excellent. The eel was sliced very fine, with shrimp, rice, avocado, and eel sauce to top it off and a side of spicy mayo you can't go wrong! If you want something light, sweet, crisp and refreshing ask for the cocktail in the photo. I don't remember the name of it, but it didn't dissapoint and was the perfect compliment to my meal. So I has a great location near the Marriott conference center. Interior is probably a 3 star, staff is very friendly but I could tell some around me were getting impatient. I ordered the omakase add Ikura. There's no piece by piece presentation or smoked pieces as in some. The pieces were fresh, good portion, right temp etc that you would expect. Nothing really exceptional but what I would consider on par with regular. Really more of a 3.5 star. Price was fair. If they would add a little more flair options to the omakase, smoked pieces, chef creations etc they could be 4+. read more

First time trying out this place and I ordered through Uber eats. I didn't take pictures because take out isn't as cute as dine in but I promise I will update when I go back - because I am going!! Ok I got the Umi Kazan and the crunchy Diablo. Both were fantastic!! There were a lot of rolls that sounded good but these two jumped out at me when ordering. When I finished eating the umi kazan I felt an actual tinge of sadness that is was gone. I'm not even kidding. That roll is incredibly delicious and I 1000000% recommend it! Just wow! The crunchy Diablo is phenomenal as well and now I have another favorite sushi spot to frequent. This meal made my Thursday night!! So delicious!! What a gem in downtown Raleigh!!! Sushi or ramen, or both! It's a great spot for either. The staff is as incredible as the food. Sashimi, rolls, however you like it, it's all good. The tonkatsu ramen has depth and comes to the table perfect. I sometimes add chili garlic oil, depending on my mood, but it doesn't need it. The bar service is great. I had known of Sono Sushi over a decade ago when I had a friend or two who had actually worked here at waiters/waittresses. Being in downtown Raleigh, I rarely made the trek, so hadn't tried this restaurant until recently. On a cold night, we really craved ramen (soup and noodles, because who doesn't?). We ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen and a Spicy Ramen. Generally, I have low expectations for ramen in this area and this did hit the spot for us. It was hot, deep enough flavor, and I enjoyed some of the toppings that I don't always enjoy (bamboo shoots came to mind). The chashu pork slices were okay - not melt in your mouth tender, but also not tough. Right in the middle. We shared a tuna roll, which we both found to taste fresh with good quality ingredients, as well as nicely flavored sushi rice-- which was a nice surprise! Why 5 stars? I have to say, I was pretty impressed. From the Ramen to the Dumplings, everything was fresh and tasty. Dumplings and Hamachi to start and both were great. Dumplings had a little spice and different flavor than most pork dumplings that was really good. Went to the sushi rolls and ramen for dinner and were equally impressed. Really liked the Screaming "O" roll and the Umi Kazan. Both had fresh flavors and would totally order again. Little high on the price but you usually get what you pay for. Chef Kim and staff did a great job taking care of my needs. I had to get the Omakase (chef's choice) $59 and the Spicy RawRaw roll. I loved every bite. The fish was high quality and mouth watering. I am a true sushi lover (Raw and all). Usually I do not like mackerel of any kind due to the very strong fish taste but tonight, that mackerel was so Bomb!!! Their lunch is always packed. Yesterday, my family and another(social bubble) did Sushi takeout from 2 restaurants downtown. There were 10 from here, and 4 from another restaurant. I ordered online that was super easy. The Top 3 of the night for all of us where the Surf&Turf Roll, The Screaming "O" Roll, and the Piano Roll. Everything was well boxed and we asked they label each roll and they did a wonderful job. This has been my wife's sneak away lunch spot when working downtown pre-Covid and every time we have gone we have never been disappointed. It's not the most beautiful of the Sushi locations downtown, but it's the best of the ones I've tried and the quality of its food is high and consistent.
