    Rib and Pork lunch special
    Andrew T.

Good old Sonny's! This place has been around forever and it really hasn't changed much over the years. Their barbecue is still very good and you can't beat their prices. This is the first time I've stopped by in a long time just due to the fact, I don't work anywhere near this location. I came in for an early lunch and the place was mostly dead. The service was excellent and very friendly and they talked me into the special they had for the day and I was not disappointed. I'm always amazed how fast the food comes out from the time I ordered til the time it was on the table was probably five minutes.

The food was very good! I got broccoli which was average, but the Mac n cheese, corn bread, and pulled pork was delicious 10/10!! The waitress was definitely over worked but she was very nice and still served us very well. Great experience

Excellent barbeque and really nice staff. We were greeted by a pleasant small blonde woman who promptly sat us and gave our son crayons and paper. David was our waiter and he was a really nice guy, in a good mood and very helpful with the information on meal sizes and recommendations and specials. We ordered a pick two meat platter with brisket and ribs, as well as an order of baby back ribs with sides, and a half a chicken with sides. The food was great, we loved everything from the cornbread to the meat, my favorite was the brisket and ribs. The only negative thing we really had to say was that the corn was extremely salty and none of us liked it. Great spot!

Food was so good! This was our first time in Sarasota and my dad was wanting bbq real bad and this place totally delivered! Our server was the funniest gal, and and she was so speedy! The drinks were delicious and I recommend the spiked pink lemonade. Refreshing and boozy! The meat was juicy, melt in your mouth delicious. I recommend the sweet potato as a side, so sweet and soft!! It feels like your basic fast food joint but the food is so much more! I think it's worth to try out!!!

Had this spots food as takeout before so wanted to check out the in house experience. Apparently we got there just before the "after work" rush as we were told there'd be a 5-10 minute wait to be seated. People that came in immediately after us were told 20+ minutes as they were "understaffed and getting overwhelmed". Surprisingly we were seated after about 5 minutes. Our server was cheerful and friendly. After checking out the menus, we ordered and sat back to wait. Again surprisingly the food wait wasn't overly long. The food looked great! I had the brisket grilled cheese with bean and slaw. Wife had the smoked turkey sandwich. I'd had the ribs previously and they were great so wanted to try something else. The brisket was tender and flavorful and the cheese was melty and tasty. The beans were BBQ-y with a nice tang. The slaw was great! Most spots treat slaw like an after thought but this was bright, flavorful, and fresh! Wife enjoyed her sandwich also. It did get fairly crowded while we were eating but our server remained attentive. The noise level increased a bit also. But overall still a decent experience. The booths were very roomy and comfortable. The tables had chairs that looked like high school cafeteria chairs. Didn't look comfortable to me. But thats me :) We will probably be back again...

Long time Sonny's BBQ eater, first time reviewer! This is the spot for some of the best sliced smoked pork you'll ever try. Recently came to this location for lunch and was served by Cori, who took excellent care of us despite having a bustling section with several other tables during a busy lunch rush (including one big top!). We ordered the Big Deal lunch special and I ended up making a garlic toast sandwich with my sliced pork, with french fries in there as well, and then drenched with Sonny's Sweet BBQ sauce. Heavenly, y'all! Can confirm that the ribs at Sonny's are also legit, as is the chicken, but primarily I'm here for the sliced pork. Never change, Sonny's, we love you!

Dry rub St. Louis Ribs, Homemade Coleslaw and Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese. Also, had cornbread which was amazing!! Very moist

It's got a relaxing beach vibe with outside seating and a nice patio in the back with enough shade. I could tell that they host nightly entertainment here with a small stage. Also ordered include the blackened grouper sandwich, billionaire burger, and tempura shrimp appetizer. Our group loved every entree. The cocktails were also refreshing. The parking place had ample parking where you needed a mobile app to pay for your parking. There was a larger souvenir store there if you needed to kill time before your seating. Once it was our time for our dinner reservations, we were greeted and seated at our table. Our waitress was a bit sarcastic or had a witty comments that didn't sit well with my kids. When ordering our foods, the kids asked what type of drinks they had since it was not listed on the menu. She said Coke but didn't elaborate that they had Coke products. Since she said Coke so fast our daughter didn't hear the response and asked her the question again where she just said that's a great question and ignored her and moved on. Food wise - we had the Peruvian ceviche, Peruvian chicken, I think I had a special grouper dish. The food was good. We were able to eat everything and the kids enjoyed their kids burger meals. Outside of the waitress comments, the place placed nice modern music to listen to and had the basketballs games playing on the tv at the bar.

February 16, 2025 - 4 for lunch…read more We are long time members and this is my first time since all the renovations and work. First time to The Green Orchid. Perfect name! We had friends in from snowy cold NY / LI and this was one of the key stops with them during their stay. The place was pretty packed in season. No outdoor spots and we waited a few minutes for an indoor four top. Service was spectacular. The food was very good as we got a bunch of salads and light food entrees. There were a few cocktails as well for the wives. My salad was a lot of romaine but very spartan on edamame, onion, nuts or anything else. The green dressing was good. Clean as a hospital operating room!! Food was fresh and delightful. All the entrees we had were mid $25 range and with a beer at $8 and mixed drinks at $15 we zoomed up to about $42 per person or $174 for 4 people tax and gratuity. It was surely "tourist" and higher priced for a lunch. I picked up the tab for our guests and with the over 65 restaurants I have reviewed on Main Street and in Sarasota....... I am not sure this was so convenient and easy to be worth the cost/value for what you got? We might even walk the waterfront or head down Lemon or Pineapple and hit Main Street as an option next time? More friends in a few days and a few in March. The place is supper small so it is still amazing to me we got a table. So make reservations! But ever since then we've had some pretty amazing dinners and discovered great wine at the Canvas Cafe. The last time I went, a couple of weeks ago, I had the lamb. It was perfectly cooked, earthy and beautiful. We also had the scallops which were such a different thing, so light and full of the ocean, you didn't want to share or trade bites between dishes because both were so good but so different. A long time favorite here is the gazpacho. This time we didn't have that and tried the goat cheese with tomato marmalade and one of the arugula salad creations. Both good, but the marmalade was a bit sweet. but loved how they caramelized the goat cheese. Don't be afraid to ask about a wine you have not heard of and listen to what they recommend. I have not gone wrong yet doing this at Canvas and have discovered some very nice things this way. Get something different here than your usual favorites. One of the things I love about this place is the menu changes about every 3-4 months and they are always trying out new wine. A good place to experience some creative and well done food. Not everything is a hit out of the ball park, but I've had some very memorable meals at Canvas. Service is always very good and I have never felt rushed out. If I want to sit and enjoy the wine, they don't try to run you off to turn over the table. Very relaxing and a nice place to slow down. You owe it to yourself to call them, make a reservation and enjoy sitting on their deck before it is too hot to eat outside. You won't be sorry.
