A group of three of us stopped for dinner tonight for the first time since moving into this area. The restaurant is in absolutely beautiful repair and clean as an I've ever been in. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was all delicious with good size portions. The food came out reasonably fast but my only complaint was the temperature of the food. All of our food was warm at best. If it had been hot I would have given 5 stars. Please Sonnys try to serve your food hotter. I would love to be a regular but I'm not the guy that sends food back to the kitchen. read more

Loved the smoked wings, have been getting them forca few years. Don't know what happened but the smoked wings are too spicy now. Also the ranch dressing is not as good as it was previously. My wife would always get extra so she had enough for both the wings and fries, now it taste like a typical ranch dressing from a supermarket. These 4 stars are 90% for the corn nuggets. I have always been a fan of these and you cannot get anything like them, anywhere else. the other 10% is for the smoked turkey. I like alternatives for chicken and red meat, and the turkey always tastes good. The sauces are very tasty as well--not sure you couldn't find others just as good... I used to be a huge fan but the product just doesn't seem as good as it used to be, except for the corn nuggets. If I could give zero stars I would. I worked all day went to pick up food for my family and they missed an entire meal of the order. I then sat there with 3 of the 4 meals and waited over 30 minutes for the order so the rest of the food was cold by the time the order they missed was ready. And the assistant manager was no help other than "we're busy". My fiancé was a manager for years at the Sonnys in Tampa and would've had that meal put to the front of the line. Sonny's is a bit of an institution for Florida. We always come here when we visit. The BBQ is good but not great. I had the pulled port and sliced beef. Beef was a bit on the dry side. I enjoy the BBQ sauces. They have super sweet tea. Very reasonable prices for BBQ. I am a KC BBQ guy so tough act to follow. The corn nuggets and fried okra are now appetizers and not additional cost sides. Still have to get them though. I will of course return. read more

My first time at Sonny's came a week after I had BBQ in countryside Georgia. I wasn't expecting it to be as "authentic" as the hole-in-the-wall good-eats place in GA... and I was right. When I think BBQ, I think meat on meat on meat moistened with sauce. Only moistened because every BBQ joint has a variety of sauces on the table for you to add yourself. And of course the southern sides. Well, Sonny's meets the options for meats and sides, but I don't know about the portion of the meat. I chose the pulled pork with a side of corn on the cob and baked beans. (Typical southern dinner, yum!) Everything tasted pretty good. I was disappointed in the sauces at the table, though. Four choices, but I only liked one since 3 of the 4 were spicy. Meh. I also expected more quantity of pork, not that I could have eaten it all, but still. The corn on the cob was double the size I expected, though. And it came with butter to slather on there. Double yum. And no complaints about the beans. Good as expected. Service was all right. They seemed pretty busy, and our server was a little rushed from table to table. She did her job decent enough. read more

I like Sonny's I like their barbecue chicken or usually get the all you can eat. Seems like a good deal except this time I tried the ribs the sweet and smoky ones. It looks like they change their prices again it's now 1465 for sweet and smoky ribs with two sides so I ordered them they got to the table after about 20 minutes they look great but there was only five on my plate that's right I said five I asked the waitress when the rest of the rack was coming and she said they sell the ribs now by weight. After eating my five medium size ribs I decided to upgrade to the all-you-can-eat where I got the rest of the rack of ribs that I was waiting for that was 1695 or something like that ,overall the ribs were okay the sides are good ,service is great but menu prices, getting out of hand. read more

This was one of the worst BBQ meals I've ever had. Apparently Sonny's expects you to eat pulled pork and ribs without any sauce. The ribs had a tiny bit of sauce but the pulled pork had none. I couldn't even finish it. It was dry, even a little bit of sauce would have made it edible. I had ordered on line for carry out. Options included a choice of sauce but when we got back to the hotel there was no sauce included. How can you sell BBQ without sauce? We were very disappointed in this place. I haven't been inside, but I can speak for the deliciousness of the food! We called our order in and went to pick up by drive through. Unfortunately for us, the car ahead of us was getting full orders because it was taking ridiculously long. It might've been a better idea to just walk inside. I picked an entree order for ~$14. I was happy to see the sizeable portion. The brisket was good beef, and it came with two sides. I picked broccoli and the sweet potato. It's amazing what they did to that sweet potato! I would not expect that rich taste from a takeout/fastfood type of place like this. I'm a spice fanatic, so I was a little disappointed at the lack of hot sauce. Let me start by saying that I frequent sonnys a couple of times a mont and am usually satisfied with the service and quality of the food. This time we choose to get curbside pickup, wow,what a huge mistake. We live over 5 miles from the restaurant but that was ok, first we get our order and the bag is tied up so we can't check it's contents. When we get home we realize that we are missing a sweet potato for my wife's order, the brisket was very dry and the pulled pork was also dry. My wife loves Sonny's, I do not care as much for them to be honest, this location has some ups and downs, they can be fast with their service some days and be slow others. We normally get the salad bar/ soup combo which is unlimited deal that is no longer featured on the menu however they still do offer it, last time we went a waiter who was new charged us separately for all of our items, no big deal however it took them 15 minutes to fix it. Sonny's food is good if you love BBQ. This location has a salad bar however does not offer quite as much as others, for instance thousand island dressing they do not have. I will give them 4 stars for a chain restaurant they have decent food and if they charge you right you will have a quick/ enjoyable experience. read more

The macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and green beans are excellent, and the corn bread is very moist, but the pork, beef, and chicken were all dry and bland. There are a number of sauces on the table you can add but BBQ should get its flavor from slow-cooking, not a splash of extra sauce poured on just before eating. Not sure if there is new mgmt here but since the renovation we have not been overly impressed with the food and service. Had the sampler last night and the brisket was from a couple of days ago. Ribs and pork were good. Didn't eat the chicken but it looked ok. Never saw an actual drink menus and entrees came out at different times. Beans were good. I hope the wood they have on display in the front entry of the restaurant isn't what they use for smoking. read more

This place is pretty decent, alot of the meats are only smoked not cooked in BBQ sauce. The ribs come basted in sauce but only lightly. There are four BBQ sauces provided, sweet, regular, sweet-hot, and Smokin (Spicy, yeah its my favorite). I particularly like this aspect, as I can have some dosed up to be spicy and others more on the mild side. This also allows my daughter to share without being subjected to the heat of that awesome spicy.. The food comes out fast and is relatively low priced, with a few all you can eat specials. The sides are all quite well made, as mentioned in a prior review. They also have an decent salad bar that is well kept, but not as diverse as say sweet tomatoes. Had the opportunity to attend a ladies day out luncheon at Sonny's. The two servers who waited on us were proficient, patient and kind. There were 12 of us so this was a pleasant plus and it added to positive a experience. The two stars is because the food was once again mediocre at best. The portions were generous but the the ribs were dry and tasteless. The restaurant only has margarine which is very unhealthy as well as disgusting to eat (especially on fresh baked potatoes). Sour cream in a tube is very unappealing. No complaints about the baked beans. I don't understand the compliments on the salad bar as it definitely did not appear to be fresh. I won't keep this establishment on my restaurant rotation. The facility needs a remodel -- think its not been done since it opened?!? What happened to you Sonny's? read more

Sunday. June 14th. My husband and I were going to a picnic with family. We chose Sonny's BBQ because it's a favorite of those attending. I called the restaurant as soon as they opened at 11 a.m. and and explained I was going to order sizable amount of food and would pick it up at noon. I then confirmed that they give give a senior discount and the associate said yes. I ordered $100 worth of food. The associate then said she had to get the manger to apply the discount. She came back on the phone and said that he wouldn't give the discount because it was a large order. She apologized and I asked are the guidelines posted somewhere that I might have missed. I found the discount information when I went on line to view the menu. If there is a limit on the senior discount dollar amount what is it ? Where would I find this discount rules for Sonnys ? She didn't know the answer and apologized again. I was quite upset to be told that because I was willing to spend a large amount at their resturant that it didn't warrant their senior discount. In these trying times of resturants closing due to the COVID-19 and many still only at 50% capacity I would think every order would be appreciated. But I guess the Sonnys on Seminole Blvd. is willing to lose a frequent customer over $10. BTW...I made an inquiry at another one of the Sonnys in the area and the associate hadn't hear of the Seminole rule. read more

Ate at Sonnys tonight and was sorely disappointed. I have been a loyal fan for years , lived in Orlando the home of Sonnys and the food was always great. Tonight my first waitress left after I ordered, when my food was delivered the pulled pork was swimming in what I assumed to be grease. I complained to the waitress and was brought a second dish very similar. When I complained to the person in the office who was not the manager but some kind of area manager I was told that th pulled pork was always sauced with a sweet sauce . Chicken keeps shrinking in size and was dry as a bone, ribs had hardly any meat on them, the sweet potato was probably left over from the day before, garlic bread was like a hockey puck.
