Y'all know by now that I always order extra to have lunch and dinner for the week. I ordered "pick of the pit" (3 meats) with some ribs, double brisket, mac and cheese, and green beans, and it came with a corn muffin. My mouth was watering. I got my food and started to dig in. I had to try the corn muffin first. It was a little dry and looked burnt or maybe just old. I totally forgot to ask for sauce on the side for the ribs, but it was okay. The ribs were moist and tasty. Now for my favorite meat. . . the brisket. . . Sadly, I was let down. The brisket was cut very thin, and when they heated it up, it became very dry. I could hardly eat it. I was choking on it; it was so dry. I peppered up the green beans and ate them. I took the mac and cheese and the ribs back to the room for later. The service was quick and very polite. For a Saturday lunch rush the food came out very quickly. The food was great and the prices even better. Where do I start?!? Yes this is a chain but man, it's amazing! From just walking in and smelling the smoke smell one knows it's going to be good! The tables and seats (both) were nice and clean - plenty of paper towels for all your BBQ needs. The food is great! I've never had anything less than yum! I like to say Sonny's BBQ, and I go way back. I'm sure this is the one that used to be on Hwy 80 in Jackson during my college days. Now, this isn't my first time at the Clinton location. I came through the drive-thru a few years back when I was in town, and the BBQ was just as good and savory as the old location. But this time, when I was in Clinton, I had to prove to myself that this was the same great BBQ place that was once on Highway 80 in Jackson. So, I went inside to place my order, and I felt right at home with the best greetings of "Hello, how are you doing?" that only Sonny's BBQ knows how to greet or simply just wants to. Also, the inside had the same wood finish and cute signs as the other one I used to go to. It was very clean, like the previous one, too. Now, I think the old location didn't have a bar. This location has a really nice bar. But you know what was the sweetest? I don't know if he was the owner or the manager. He was dressed really nicely, standing by one of the smokers. But this gentleman saw my niece taking pictures, and at the time, when he walked up, she was taking pictures of the smokers. He thought she was on the hunt for a smoker and wanted to help her choose one. My niece told him she was just taking pictures, and he helped her take pictures and went back to doing something with the smokers. So, is this the same Sonny BBQ? I cannot recommend this place. Every single time we've ordered takeout, they've forgotten items, so someone is disappointed at the lack of sides. In addition, our food is (at least this time) completely cold. It's not like they even tried to heat it up out of the refrigerator. We shared a Sonny's sampler platter after a long drive tonight, and enjoyed it a lot, an excellent value for the pile of quality BBQ and sides we received: The best: BBQ chicken was excellent, with crispy skin and perfectly moist (dark) meat. Pulled pork was tender and flavorful, ribs were very good, slaw and beans outstanding, and the corn bread muffin was one of the best I have ever eaten, moist and firm and delish. Could have been better: the brisket was about half fat, and big globs of it- most should have been separated/trimmed and discarded before serving. Drinks: cheap and strong, Sonny's lemonade (with muddled strawberries and Tito's) was excellent with the food, and Sonny's amber beer was a solid bock, light and sweet tasting with a nice nut brown hue. Due to the water issues in Byram, I came to Sonny's BBQ for dinner. My first time here since they've opened. There wasn't anyone at the hostess stand so the young lady at the counter was adamant to take my order, so I let her. I kept repeating I wanted to dine in and she nodded like she understood. When the transaction was over, I repeated again I wanted to dine in and she said oh I thought you wanted it to go. I should have known then my visit was about to go downhill, but I stayed. I ordered the half chicken plate with bbq beans and coleslaw. I always loved the garlic bread, so I picked that over cornbread. The chicken was a little bland to me so I had to smother it in sauce to give it some flavor. The beans were decent but the coleslaw, combined with the chicken, led me to believe they were low or out of salt in the kitchen. I know recipes change over time, but the coleslaw was always a highlight for me when they were on 80 but today it was not. I have to admit that my visit was lackluster. So the FOOD... we wanted try a lil bit of everything so we got the three meats plate, which came w pulled pork, sliced pork, and ribs. You choose if you want Sweet n Smoky (sauced) or the dry rub bbq for the ribs, and you get Two sides and a bread choice. We got green beans n Mac n cheese and a corn bread muffin. Then we tried the Smoked Turkey plate and got garlic bread, crinkle cut fries, and a baked Sweet potato. The meats were SO MOIST, SUPER flavorful with not too much of the Smokey flavor that always overwhelms me. The sauce we tried (the Sweet house sauce) had just a hint of vinegar which we LOVE. Even the breads were Excellent - two thick slices of buttery garlicky bread and a sweet little cornbread muffin that was slightly cakey, with perfectly light corn flavor, and Super Moist! Sonny's BBQ is convenient to where we live, and their BBQ is always good - although their sides are overpriced. But their service needs work. Used the Sonny's App to order 2 pulled pork sandwiches. No sides. Was told it would be ready in 11 minutes, so headed in their direction. Forty five minutes later I was still waiting for my order, along with 11 other people. Twice I have been through the drive thru and was disappointed when I got home because I ordered chopped BBQ, and the first time I got home and had sliced brisket which was good, so I didn't complain. The second time I got sliced meat that I guess was pork, but it was tasteless. I didn't realize until I got sliced meat the second time that they don't have chopped BBQ, and the closest thing they have is pulled pork, which I would have preferred. If I ordered something they didn't have, I should have been asked if I preferred sliced or pulled pork. Not only was the meat not good, but the sides were not good. I had the cole slaw the first time and didn't like it, so I ordered green beans and potato salad.
