Lots of food for the cost. It's pretty good. Lots of butter and definitely not low calorie. My girls got the kids macaroni and cheese with a sweet potato for one and green beans for the other. It comes with a giant piece of bread and a drink. They didn't get their juice that was supposed to come with their meal (they wanted milk but I guess they ran out because the server said they didn't have milk) but I didn't complain since I don't let them have much juice anyway. I got a grilled cheese and my husband got the 'Big Deal' which is a sandwich with some fries. He always gets garlic bread with his sandwich and loves it. They have 4 kinds of barbecue sauce on the table - smoking, sweet, spicy and original. My husband uses sweet and spicy together. We also tried some fried okra (we had a big party of 13 of us) that someone else had ordered. The food took a while but there were a bunch of people who came in before us while we were waiting for the rest of our party to get there. (They don't sit your big party till almost everyone is there.) Definitely not a good first impression. Just left there went in for the first time waited there was people on their telephones and somebody's son sitting at the high top eating. No one came over to see us so we left. Waited almost 5 minutes. No greetings or even acknowledgment. We're headed to catfish country. Was very worried that if it took that long to be seated how long it would take to get our order taken or for food to arrive. The owner should definitely check the videotape. Today we visited Sonny's in Bartow, FL. Very disappointed. Back beans were cold for two orders. Sliced Brisket was full of fat. For $17.59 a rib plate features 4 ribs that are 4 inches long and have enough meat for a 8-year-old. The Sweet potato was the size of a small orange, 4 bites. Ordering online is so easy. I'm while I am running around doing errands, I will long on to the site an order what I want for the family. As I am driving my order is being made. As soon as I drove my order was ready. They came out right away. I live far away from fast or restaurant so when I am out I am about I usually place a large order so we can graze on it for lunch and dinner. Usually have some left over for breakfast. I tried really hard to like my sandwich but it had no flavor . No sauce , no smoke flavor of bbq , I had to add my sauce . But it kept tasting like paper , like I was eating the plate liner paper. Very odd and off taste. The sweet potato was delicious plain . I ordered tea 1/2 sweet & 1/2 unsweetened. I had to ask for some unsweetened I. Addition it was just too sweet. My husband enjoyed his all you can eat ribs . My daughter enjoyed her bbq pull pork sandwich . Been to Sonny's many times over the years, but this was a first at this location. We were seated promptly and drinks arrived fast. Staff was friendly. Ordered the BBQ egg rolls as an appetizer. They were disappointing as they were a lot smaller than they use to be and not as tasty. Also got the Turkey Big deal on garlic toast. It was good and the Turkey was moist. The Turkey on a bun was the same. Very moist and tasty. Really miss the salad bar and wish it would be brought back. Overall a good experience. read more

I ordered 4 pick 2 combos for take out yesterday, 7/20/24. Every time before, the orders were outstanding. Yesterday, the ribs on all 4 combos were tough, very little meat and altogether a disappointment. The pulled pork and the sides were good as usual. Sonny's apparently gave us the lousy leftover ribs from earlier. Now, it's questionable whether I will ever order from Sonny's BBQ in Bartow again. Absolutely horrible brisket and it's a total rip off...I will never set foot in that establishment again...I got the sliced "lean" brisket....When it arrives half of it was nothing but fat...I said something to the waiter and he said "oh you wanted the lean brisket?" ....To which I replied yes...So then he brought back me a small side plate of "lean" brisket...Well at first glance I thought he did good and was taking care of me....Nothing could be further from the truth....It was not the same brisket that I got for my dinner...While my dinner brisket was loaded with fat the actual meat part was ok....The "brisket" he brought had all kinds of small stringy and chewy fat running through it...It was disgusting...On top of everything they have the audacity to charge you "market price" for this rubbish too...I was charged $16 and change...the sides were average at best...This was probably the second worst bbq joint I've been to. read more

Classic old school Sonny's with picnic style table and benches. Love these more than their modernized locations. Our lunch of beef brisket was perfect. Their garlic bread is the best and didn't disappoint today. The mac and cheese was fresh and creamy. The yummy baked beans disappeared though first in my platter. My daughter selected the ribs and the meat was almost falling off the bones just the way she likes them. While the food was excellent, our waitress was sort of indifferent to us. While visiting South Florida we fell into a Sunny's for lunch. It was definitely the best BBW we have had in years ! Pulled pork on garlic bread (suggested by our waitress ) hot from the kitchen juicy sweet and Smokey with flavor. The salad bar is not open which is stupid and falls on poor management. Several restaurants in the area serve buffet style meals with no issues. What a terrible experience! I drove past my closest Sonny's to come here because mine doesn't serve Chicken and Dumplings. The last time we came here we ordered it only to find out when she brought our plates that they were out of it. So we gave them another try tonight (2 weeks later). We asked before ordering to make sure they had it and were assured they did. 4 if us ordered it and they brought 3 bowls saying they were out of it again. Most definitely better than expected. I had read reviews and more than a bit worried. I have to say, we were impressed. I had pulled pork sandwich on garlic bread. Pork was tender and very tasty. The garlic bread was a perfectly done and a great flavor addition to the pork. My husband had the steak burger , perfectly cooked! Sides of creamy coleslaw and baked beans were as good as it gets! Just ate lunch on Broadway in Bartow near courthouse. All you can eat ribs were fantastic as was the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. The creamy coleslaw was outstanding as was the potato salad. The ice tea glasses were huge and refilled promptly. We had eaten at Sonny's up in north Lakeland the first time and we were wondering what all the hype was about. The North Lakeland store was dirty and the food lackluster. So we thought we will give it one more chance. Soooo glad we did. Will definitely go back to the Bartow location. read more

I visit the area very frequently on business and am always going out for dinner. I have been to this location twice and have been disappointed both times (once for dine in and once for takeout). For the dine in experience, the wait for our food (party of two) took some time, the salad buffet was poorly maintained (food all over the place, ingredients missing, etc) and the service was less then par. Surprisingly, the take out experience was worse. The food took approximately 15 minutes for one meal to come out. The portions were small. Also, the cashier had up sold me and I didn't realize I was charged wrongly till after I saw the itemized receipt in the to go bag (basically she told me a total and I didn't question it and saw that I was charged for stuff I didn't buy). Take out service is good and the personnel are awesome people. The one thing I have noticed is that my favorite steak burger seems to have shrunk since the pandemic. That is disappointing to me because I have always felt it was worth the extra money than the burger joints nearby. Sonny's BBQ is pretty run-of-the mill BBQ. Its a chain, but tries pretty hard to not come across as one. Hence the Bartow mural you can see on one wall. And it has been here for quite some time, and is accepted as an acceptable BBQ option. The meats themselves are decent, its just kinda hard to know who the pit-master is and how long they have been doing it for (problems of a chain). If you want a safe BBQ option, this is it, but there are definitely more exciting, and tastier options out there in Polk County. read more

We stopped here after an exhausting day of traveling. It's in a small podunk town. We were probably the tannest people there. Service was tired but nice. I heard her complaining about getting stiffed on a tip from a previous table. Ribs were tender but needed seasoning. Mac and cheese was the best I've tasted in a while. Fried shrimp and fried catfish were good, as fried food usually is. Didn't care for the tartar sauce. I liked their smokin' and sweet and sizzling sauce. Wished it was spicier.
