We recently returned to this favorite restaurant from 50 years ago. As a child we stopped at Peebles as often as possible usually eating outside on the picnic tables since we were a rowdy group of kids. My future wife's family loved the BBQ as well so it was such a treat to take my mother-in-law to Peebles for her 85th Birthday after we returned to polk county to retire. We were amazed at how almost nothing had changed. Great BBQ done simply. No air conditioning, gravel parking lot, simple tables in a screened in area and white bread served with the BBQ meat of your choice. Great food, friendly family servers and a step back to a simpler time that should not be forgotten. read more

This was unexpected gem in rural Polk county. Was excited to visit after reading the reviews in the local paper. Would have passed right by if not for my GPS, dirt parking lot, no giant billboards. Service was quick and friendly, and the menu is simple. Was disappointed in no brisket (only on Friday), but i enjoyed the chopped pork, not my favorite. Was hoping for garlic bread instead of a bun, but it worked. The sides were small, but very tasty. Best potato salad i can remember in a while Only open 3 days a week, and not in the summer. A building with no air condition.. wowsers!! An experience worth visiting, but i personally won't go out of the way to return, only if convenient. read more

Peebles Bar B Que - Entire menu - Barbeque Near Me - Auburndale, Florida

Peebles BBQ has been around since I was a kid and is true Polk County-style barbecue. The meats are simply salted and smoked, and the family-style atmosphere is always welcoming. Weekly specials are regularly posted on social media, which keeps things interesting. Today we sampled the ribs, brisket, and collard greens. The ribs had plenty of smoky flavor and paired well with the original vinegar sauce, though these spare ribs can run a bit dry and tend to have a crispy membrane on the back. The sliced brisket is a newer Friday-only special. It had great bark and that classic simple seasoning, but the slices were cut thick--more like tri-tip than fork-tender brisket. Some pieces also had fat that wasn't fully rendered. It would be nice to see an option for lean or fatty brisket in the future, especially since it's served as a full pound in a to-go container. The collard greens were more bitter than usual and could've used additional seasoning to give them more pop. We order from Peebles regularly and often get family-style to-go meals. Considering they're only open Thursday through Saturday and seasonally, we know there's more great BBQ coming--and we're hopeful to see a few improvements moving forward. read more

BBQ ADVENTURE AT ONE OF OUR FAVORITE STOPS!!! This is just an update for 2025. Pricing has gone up a bit, but what hasn't!!!! Check out my pics for the menu with updated pricing. The 2 can done is still great and filling. Bonus this year more dessert options!!!! Everything was great as usual. Flys were a bit much this time, but it's like sitting outside with your food at one of their picnic tables. If you can think that way about it!!! The service was spectacular as always super friendly and attentive!!! The Ambiance, just to hit the 3 points is still the same a shack with great food!!! AS ALWAYS TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!!! read more

Best BBQ in Florida !! The whole place has barely changed since is was small! The food is beyond delicious read more

This is some of the best bbq we have found since we move to Florida. Service was good. My wife and I shared the 70 year special. The ribs and sausage were phenomenal. The pulled pork was delicious. The brisket and chicken were just ok. Chicken didn't have much flavor. The night we went it was cold outside so the had everything closed up so the place was filled with smoke. I would recommend going on a warm day so they will have the windows open so as not be as smoky. So if you are looking for some good bbq give them a try. Only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. read more

We loved the laid back atmosphere and friendly service. Sides were all very good, especially the potato salad. The sausage and baby back ribs were very good and was our families favorite. To be honest, we were fairly disappointed with the chopped chicken, pork and beef. The beef and chicken were quite dry, pork was slightly less dry. I would absolutely go back but would maybe try the sliced beef and pork as opposed to the chopped meats. Peach tea was tasty and prices were very reasonable. read more

Totally enjoyed a pulled pork overstuffed ovrer sized baked potato for my maiden voyage into Peebles. Entering was a little confusing as far as seat yourself? where to order? Everyone was bustling around and the customers all seemed like regulars or nearby construction workers. It is a very basic location (shed-like or outdoors/indoors) complete with banging front door. Parking lot filled up quickly. Servers were nice but all business/quick. read more

The the Best BBQ place in POLK COUNTY! food is off the chain, service is always with a smile and the Ambiance is good ole fashioned family dining at its best! side note: hubby brought me here for the first time in 2015, from the outside it is a cute "hole in the wall" place, don't let that scare you, inside is clean smells are amazing and you get to watch the grilling. hubby stated we only come once a year, then it's a treat, baaahaaa, yeah that did not last when l entered the picture. we go at least as much as we can when we can! read more

This is definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" spots! From the outside, it might look a bit intimidating (to say the least, lol), but once you step inside, you're welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of smoky meats. The menu is short, and we followed our waitress's recommendation to try the ribs with mac & cheese--honestly, they were fantastic! We also ordered the chopped chicken, which was pretty good. The banana bread pudding was a nice sweet treat to end the meal. Unfortunately, everything else we tried fell below average. That said, a big shoutout to our waitress--she was incredibly kind and sweet, which made our visit much more enjoyable. Overall, it's worth checking out for the ribs and great service! read more

This is one of those barbecue joints you drive by and think it's either going to be spectacular or a disaster. It has a beautiful ol' southern charm that's down and dirty, basic, and has the hidden gem vibe that could be delicious. Sadly, my experience with the ribs was an absolute disaster. The meat on the ribs were slightly less dry than sand. Had a mild flavor of vinegar, not that I mind that, but it was the only flavor to be found in the rib. I could not taste any kind of rub let alone the wood it was smoked in. They seemed to be cooked like the pitmaster hated ribs and had a vendetta against them. I am going to guess they spent far too much time in the chafing dish or the pit. These are not St. Louis style ribs. What I got seemed to be the full spare rib so it does give you some extra meat where I did find some flavor and moisture due to the extra fat. The meat that was supposed to be on the ribs themselves, what you want to eat, where the sickly dry potion of the meal. I hate to sound harsh, but it was almost an embarrassment to call it a rib. My sides were baked beans and mac & cheese. The baked beans were decent though slightly more sweet than I care for. The mac & cheese also was good but the macaroni was so over cooked you could've eaten it through a straw. If you like a sweet BBQ sauce, this will tick your box and give you a low dose of the 'betus. In the end, I hate to shit on what seems to be a decent Mom and Pop establishment. But when I am paying $20 to a professional, it should be better than what I can make at home on my Egg. Did I bring this to the attention of the manager? No. I had a limited amount of time while on break and I had eaten most of what was served to me because I had a hole in my stomach to fill. Was I looking for a free meal? No. But when I ask one of the servers, what is the best thing to order from the menu and I am told ribs and this is what I get, I'm going to share my experience. read more

I really hate to leave this review. I love Peebles. But this time the potato salad was runny. The coleslaw had no flavor. And to top it off my bread was stale. This is not the Peebles I'm used too. Teresa read more

The first solid bbq place that I have found in Florida. I got the sampler. The ribs were not great. The chopped beef was okay, very juicy. The chopped chicken was good. The pulled pork was best. The baked beans are very good, sweet. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy but nothing special. I was hoping for a Smokey Mac and cheese. The potato salad was okay. The baked potato is huge. If you order the butter and sour cream on the side you may be surprised at how much comes in it. I recommend taking control of your portion and get it on the side. The salad, was actually really good. I wasn't expecting this as this is a meat place. The salad was fresh and had a lot of toppings. The dressing was okay, served on the side. The banana pudding was good. I wouldn't get it again, but I tried it. Next time... baked potato, butter and cream on the side, covered in pulled pork. With salad. Bam. Perfect meal for me. (I saw others getting this and it looked spot on!) read more

I don't care for the coleslaw with mustard seed. Needs to be sweetened more. Ribs are great. Atmosphere is laid back. Go when cooler for dine-in. Gets hot in Florida. If you like style covered picnic then you'll be fine. read more

My favorite ribs, people's barbecue's been around for many years and there's a reason for that.

I had brisket it was amazing. Hubby had rib, we had slaw excellent, beans yummy and Mac and cheese gooey and delicious. We did take out.

food is amazing if you're looking for atmosphere you're looking for the wrong place this is take out but it's worth the wait for the number of months that they are open read more

3.5 stars PROS & CONS Would I go back? Absolutely. Pros -charming rustic old place. -true original hole in the wall family owned. -excellent side portions (most sides at bbq places are in tiny condiment cups. Plus you get THREE SIDES! -pulled pork sandwich -the baked beans=fantastic! Cons -small rib platter was 2 ribs. The end rib was beyond well done so I really only got to eat one rib. Slightly over cooked. Good taste but too well done and small. At another bbq place we visit the kids portion of ribs is 3-4 ribs. 2 ribs won't fill anyone. So I left hungry. -waitress was new and couldn't answer our questions about the menu. She said she was new. It's a small menu, she should've taken 5 min to ask a manager what's what. -potato salad was not homemade and if you like real Mayo you won't like this. Tasted like miracle whip or tangy dressing. Definitely institution size pre made/ordered potato salad. -platters come w 2 pieces of white bread in paper. Plain. A lot of bbq places give a piece of Texas garlic toast. What am I supposed to do w 2 pieces of white bread? I would definitely go back for the ambience and charm alone. If you like an old hole in the wall, this is for you. I'd love to try the ribs again and give them another chance. read more

Honestly, I've had better. Nothing about this place screamed "helll yeah!" to me. One kid got the rib sandwich. They served her 4 ribs and 2 pieces of wonder bread in a baggie. Wth is she supposed to do with that?? That's not a sandwich! The pulled chicken was little scraps of chicken on a tiny plate. The Mac n cheese was nothing special. I could get better at Chick-fil-A . The prices are pretty high, too. The sides come in tiny condiment cups. I wouldn't go back. read more

Overrated. The place is definitely not fancy, as advertised. Service was good but the food a disappointment. We ordered the platter to share. The beef was dry, the chicken dry and dressed with, I guess, necessary sauce to render it some moisture (not very successfully) the concoction was not tasty. On the plus side, the ribs were ok as was the pork. The 2 bbq sauces offered were not to my taste. Still, a very popular place. read more
