When called customer service, the rep picked up without any wait time, spoke clear English, and quickly scheduled a visit first thing the next morning. With the addition of a landline to replace one of my cellphones, it took them over 3 weeks to complete the transfer of my cell phone, which ended up charging another month to my cell phone company previous. Does cell phone was installed to my landline? Today, September 10th 2025 I had that working and called customer service to inquire. What is the code to enter my greeting to my voicemail and to access voicemail call? NI ask what is my monthly bill? Which was supposed to be $40 plus $10 for the landline, which should have been $50. The representative told me my bill is. $69.64 per month. I said what the h*** It was only supposed to be $50. He informed me that there was $14.64 in taxes. That was never disclosed to me upon agree to the contract. They're deceptive and I rude. Customer service agent was no help at all. I would not recommend sonic internet. Switched to Sonic from Comcast in 2018. Happy at first but service outages have increased over time and so has their billing. The cost of the service increased about 20% in 2023 due to bundled voice services and the associated fees. I already pay these fees to my wireless provider and I certainly don't need that service from Sonic but, alas, we live in a world of "one-size fits all". I am now searching for a replacement to Sonic. read more

Couldn't stand all the Internet problems (interrupts work & school) so we went back to Comcast and are pretty happy now with the Internet. I want to like this local, friendly company. I have never wanted more badly to like a company, but they just don't seem interested at all in keeping customers. I'm willing to pay high prices for fairly slow service because I'd rather patronize a friendly local company than one of the big conglomerates that has swallowed every other small provider. But ultimately there is a limit to what I'm willing to spend for what kind of service, and when pointed out that Sonic's offers a fraction of the speed of anybody else at an extremely high monthly cost, rather than make an effort to keep the customer, they just sort of shrug. I live in central SF, and I'm paying Sonic a total of $95/month after everything for download speeds that max out at 16Mbps at the modem (so more like 14Mbps at my computer) and upload speeds under 2Mbps. By contrast, 15 years ago, my first DSL line was 6Mbps down/3 Mbps up for $60/month - fifteen years ago! I wrote them an email saying I really want to stay their customer, but that kind of money for that low a speed was just ridiculous. That doesn't seem right in 2019. I asked them to call me to discuss. First, it took them a week and a half to call me back. OK, PG&E did put Marin County in the dark for 2 days last week... but that was 2 days. A week and a half's worth of calls piled up during two days when many of their customers didn't have power either? Then, when they called, they basically told me, in absolutely polite terms, to go hang. They could not offer me better speeds and would not come down on the price. Their website offers better speeds than I'm getting for $60/month, so I asked about that. They said that's an "introductory offer" and wouldn't offer me that price, even to keep me as a customer. (This connection previously belonged to my roommate, who switched it to my name last week after moving out.) I told them there was absolutely no way $95/month for a 10-15Mbs download speed would work for me when other companies are offering gigabit speeds for $50/month. He agreed with me and said he understands, and nothing else. I'm not even saying I asked them to match the big corporations' service or rates, just do something to make the price and speed a LITTLE more in line with each other compared to every other provider, or I would have to start shopping for a different provider. But their response was, "Ok, bye." I really don't want to give my money to Comcast or Verizon, but there's only so much a local business is going to be able to capitalize on that sentiment alone. Eventually you have to offer some sort of customer service, or something vaguely resembling decent pricing, or something. But Sonic.net didn't do any of that for me. They could have shown SOME sort of small sign that they valued my business. They didn't seem interested in lifting a finger to keep me as a customer at all. We were not happy with the service. Kept on getting outages, etc. Was even more unhappy with discontinuing the service. Spoke to an agent who told me that they were going to send a box to return the router(they closed their drop-off site). Called back 3 weeks later after not having gotten anything from them and second agent said they don't send boxes AND that the cost for mailing back the router(which weighs less than a pound) was going to be $13. Only when I became furious did they agree to waive the $13. So foolish on their part. If they had just waived it from the start they would have had just a regular customer who didn't think the service was all that great. Instead, they have an irate customer who took the time to write them a bad review. Who trains these customer service people??? We switched to Monkey Brains in San Francisco and they are great. Wednesday 1/11/23 our internet went down due to the big rainstorm. We called and they said they'd have a repairman that day or Friday at the latest. No one showed up and no one called. We called them and they told us they would call us back and keep us updated. But we had to call them. They said it could be our router. We said okay when can you get it to us. They said by Friday. We said we'll pick it up today. They said we don't provide that service? We received the new router but it worked just like the old one. They said it's probably in the line. We should have someone out by Saturday. No one Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and we're back to Wednesday and still no sign anyone is going to help us. They get one star for being nice on the phone, but otherwise they've been of no help. No wonder they're overall rating is a 3. read more

They knocked on my door for months and when I finally agreed to sign up with them it was just false promises and did not care about keeping me. Promised $40 for internet, turns out the first charge was already 50% more - charged me $60. I called and the CS rep was totally untouched and said in a cool voice "I am happy to process cancelation" Well then OK I said , I will do a cancelation. Then asked him whether they will come pick up their modem, just as their technician came to deliver and install it. "No" he said. You will have to ship it back. Anything is better than Comcast. But when Sonic offered a respite from Comcast and AT&T we jumped on it. They were responsive because they were small and nimble. My customer experience was enjoyable because they were trying hard. Now since they putting all their energy towards rapid expansion they are very trying. I just came off of 4 days without internet service along with everyone on my block. For a small business, that's can be the kiss of death. Has gone downhil over the years. The tech support, which is required due to their rented routers/boosters failing went from great to spotty and rude. When a tech support person does not know the answer to a simple question, the tech person may talk and talk without allowing a person to get a word. When one calls back and gets the same tech, the tech justifies this by saying I asked too many questions. Ahem. I asked ONE question. I asked the same question again, and I heard a lot of typing, which she later admitted was her doing a Google search. The answer from said search, prior to this admission was a BS answer. I then decided to take a page out of the tech's book and speak without allowing her to interrupt me, and rather than providing an appropriate response, was told I was talking over HER. So bottom line, Sonic went from having great to having poor tech support paired with worse customer service, if you get the wrong tech. The poor customer services is similar to how a disgruntled teenager might respond to an adult when caught telling a series of lies. This, in addition to escalating prices begs the question, "Why Sonic?" It would be better if Sonic hired better people who had either knowledge or appropriate social skills, but it seems that this is not consistently happening. read more

A PGE power outage blew out our Sonic ONT and we had a great experience working with Dan Smith, Sonic's repair engineer. Dan adjusted his schedule to come by, diagnosed the issue, had a new modem available, did the repair, updated the line, re-established our mesh wi fi, all the while being smart, and engaging and representing Sonic wonderfully. If I could give 0 stars, I'd give it to Sonic with a frowny face. Unfortunately there is no such option. After years of being a Sonic customer, Sonic always claims that the fiber optic bandwidth they provide is above 100 Mbps, bullshit! The best I get is only 12 Mbps, sometimes it's even below 2 Mbps. What kind of fiber optic is this? Likewise, when I switched to Spectrum, and Sonic asked me to return all the equipment, they claimed that there was still equipment left that I had not returned, even though the equipment provided was only a wi-fi modem, adapter and cables. I just moved into a new apartment and made an appointment to have my Internet installed. I was moving on a really hot day and was pretty beat after the move was done so I fell asleep and ended up missing my appointment. I called in and they arranged to have someone come in after hours to install my Internet. Two field techs, Dustin and Jake, came within 15 minutes and installed my Internet. I was very happy that they accommodated me even though it was my error in missing my appointment. They were also very courteous during their visit. read more

Switched from Comcast to Sonic. Sonic has fibre optic lines which are faster than Comcast's coax and it's faster. Also much cheaper, thus both better and cheaper. The installer came by quickly and installed it quickly, and it was great to reduce my monthly bill from $138 to $49 and to get better internet at the same time. Comcast makes you telephone them in order to cancel, but it wasn't hard to do. I recommend Sonic - switch from Comcast right away. read more

While their customer service is reachable, I have not had much success actually addressing the wireless issue that my husband and I have had for several months. We have called, spoken to techs, troubleshooted at home, had a Sonic tech come to our house twice, finally, we had an ATT&T tech come out about two months ago which fixed the problem for a few weeks (claiming a loose connection at a service box at the end of our street), then our wireless became intermittent again -- I know this because I get booted constantly from any online video game I attempt to play. I called customer service on Christmas Eve, spoke with Blake for over half an hour, starting from scratch on all the troubleshooting stuff (power cycle the modem, hard reset the modem, he "refreshed" the line on his end), and Broadband 2 was still down. He said he'd file a ticket for ATT&T to contact us and to expect a call later that day. No call that day, the next, the next or the next. Finally, today, I called Sonic back and spoke to Matt, who was very unsympathetic, insisting that we need to start over again and troubleshoot again, redoing everything I did with Blake, and not taking my word that the state of my intermittent wireless was the same, despite acknowledging that AT&T mysteriously closed the ticket presumably without any action other than to say "no problems found". I had to twist his arm to get him to re-open the AT&T ticket, and finally, after yet another 20 minutes of my life on the phone with Matt and a reluctant apology about ATT&T not getting back to us, I am back to where I was this Monday with Blake. Good customer service is actually addressing your customer's issues in a timely manner. Yes Matt, I know calling out AT&T costs Sonic money. I am paying you for a service that I am not getting. That's costing me money. I am calling you while at work multiple times for the same issue with zero progress. That is costing me money. read more

I haven't written a Yelp review in two and a half years, but the excellent service I just received from Ricardo Moreno, the Sonic tech person dispatched to my home this morning, was so stellar, that I want to make sure Sonic retains this person and others like him. Sonic did not retain the knowledgable tech person who originally set up my Sonic Service and made sure all my phone lines work. I would not have signed up with Sonic otherwise. With that initial successful setup, I referred a neighbor who lives three blocks from me to sign up for Sonic. I facilitated as intermediary so that there would be a seamless transition. However, shortly thereafter, this close friend became very ill such that he was very sensitive to noise, including the sound of the phones ringing. As a result, he simply disconnected the phones from the jacks. When he recovered a year later, he reconnected them but lost the dial tone. Though I called Sonic repeatedly to have this problem addressed, I got a complete runaround, with various persons at the Sonic Call Center saying they could not fix his phone problems, and that they were responsible for only one phone working. This person is in his 80's, lives in a 2 story home, has issues walking, and when all his phone lines stopped working, the typical response from the Sonic Call Center was that they could not fix his phone problems, even though they had fixed mine. I had, in fact, reassured him myself that he would not lose the use of his existing landlines. Had I known Sonic would not only be so callous but eschew any accountability, I would never have made the referral. The Sonic employee who arrived today, however, was a breath of fresh air. He has dealt with many customers who have had this problem and so was surprised nothing could be done for my friend. Moreover, he was extremely empathic as to what it might be like to climb stairs to answer the only phone that serves as the Sonic landline. I gave him the contact information of my friend so that he might report the issue to his superiors. Thank you, Ricardo Moreno, for being a model of Sonic responsiveness. I also appreciate Robert at the Call Center, who was quick to dispatch him. To Sonic: I hope that you can redress the longstanding issue of the neighbor I referred to you by honoring the original agreement -- that all existing phones remain intact. I would prefer not to post a follow-up review that is like the majority of the other Yelp reviews here -- mostly negative -- basically echoing how unresponsive the company's customer service department. read more

Save yourself hassle, time and money by staying away from Sonic. They may be nice on the phone but they use AT&T wiring and when there's a problem they tell you AT&T will come on a certain day between 8 and 5 and they never come. They have no influence over AT&T, who care more about servicing their own customers than they do about servicing Sonic customers. My neighbor had 3 no-shows in as many days. I gave up after 2 promised service calls after going without internet for a week. I finally called Infinity at 5 pm and signed up, picked up my equipment, and was up and running by that evening...and for $15 a month less! read more

I was a Sonic customer for several years (voice and internet), but ultimately needed to transfer to another ISP. The issues were: * slow speed (not what was promised) * overpriced * the phone router kept malfunctioning and having to be re-set, and I missed calls as a consequence * they recently added mandatory automatic payments -- which you can't opt out of even on written request (which is illegal!) * when they first sent me the phone router, it didn't work because apparently it was the wrong/older model, and they had to send a new one, delaying start of service. My only positive feedback was that the customer service was usually more polite and responsive than AT&T. On the whole though, I would discourage anyone for signing up for service. Customer service is responsive compared to AT&T. But the internet was just as unreliable since it runs over AT&T's network. I purchased their gigabit service and it would underperform on my devices frequently. Their tech support was easy to get ahold of but essentially told me they can't do anything about it bc it's an AT&T line. So essentially they just charged me a premium price (110/month) for subpar internet... My biggest issue - BEWARE of predatory cancellation fees! Just canceled my service since I'm moving out at the end of the week. They notified me that I need to give a months notice (something I've never heard of before with internet!) and to add insult to injury I have to pay another $13 for a shipping label to return their stuff. The only positive thing I can take from this experience is that I will now thoroughly vet the next internet provider I go with so I don't get conned again. I've never been so disappointed with a company before. I want the smaller company to be the good guys and beat out the big companies. But the sonic.net offer is "bait and switch": When I entered my address on the sonic.net web site, it said: "up to 20 Mbps. Your price: $40/mo". I ordered it, but the price they actually charged me was actually $60.49/month! That's 50% MORE than it says on the "Choose your service" web page! It is *not* $40/month, but $60/month! The $40 does not include $10 in taxes and the $9.50/month modem they shipped me. When I called customer service, they were very polite, but seemed to not care that their web page is so misleading and had no response to the misleading pricing on their web page. read more

Deeply grateful to Sonic for waiving my equipment fee. I moved back to my original state of NY from CA due to COVID-related life changes. The team waved the equipment return fee, upon my request. They certainly did not have to do that, but that's just the customer service level that I am deeply grateful for. This is a good brand, staffed with caring and responsive people. Tale of caution for the new comers... I have had business class Comcast, regular Comcast and most recently Sonic. Speed-wise I got more from business class Comcast for the same cost as the latter two. From a principle, I chose to stick with Sonic as I think having competition in the market will bring diversity and better prices. Service was never a point of contention with either of the three. I made peace with the speed, and told myself, it's worth it to help foster more competition. Fast forward to over a year later, I am transferring my service and leaving the Bay Area. I file the necessary papers that Sonic requested to change the billing to the new person taking over. Here is what you can expect, in terms of a timeline for such a request, in case you have to do it in the future: - 1/4 file paper - standard auto response - 1/9 resend paper - no response - 1/14 call - they are in a "meeting" right now, will get to it soon. Don't expect a call back, it will be taken care of. - 2/5 - still no response via email or any kind of confirmation. - 2/6 - ask support - they said they are still working on it I have literally left the bay since January and now most likely going to pay 2 additional months of internet service that I am not even using! Never had this issue with Comcast, and they are known for the worst customer service ever! read more

Everyone that we have spoken with has given us a different answer, none of them have been correct. The internet is really unstable and continues to cut out. FALSE ADVERTISING IT ISN'T $40 its $60! dishonest, unreliable, slow service, and unhelpful. Guess we will still have to keep hoping for a company to show up that can manage to deliver consistent internet, not lie to customers, and manage to actually be helpful. Their biggest problem is how support is set up. There's no follow thru on issues so for the more difficult problems like DSL line issues every phone call or email starts over with a new tech and recap from the beginning of the entire story so far. This can get really irritating if you happen to work with networks, it's the 10th call in 2 weeks and the guy is asking you if you've tried reseting the modem. Try another thing, see if you get lucky. This problem is entirely their own making -- they can't solve the problem that old phone lines will have DSL issues, but they can certainly make the resolution process a great deal easier. Second issue is a nit -- they won't give a straight answer on what services they support, their plans etc, you have to play with their toy (complete with capcha no less) where you enter an address and see if you get lucky. These guys play the "we're the good guys" card (customer advocacy, etc. etc.) but in reality they could do much much better. They could own their service problems and provide some real information on their services and plans. read more

Sonic Net should be called Con Net. I'm writing this review on my ATT hotspot since the internet still doesn't work after 9 days and over 12 hours of 3 people's labor to make up for what Sonic Net wouldn't do. First of all, they don't even have their own workforce. They used an ATT contractor who said he was learning along with me about where to put the hardware. They advertised voice over IP but told us we have to wire the phones ourselves and mailed us the part. The coverage in the house was worse than the cheapest ATT option. They are impossible to reach and told us to fix the problem we have to cancel the order and start all over again. I'll update this review if the problem is solved and this is just a fluke. read more

Switched from ATT to Sonic more than a year ago. Overall happy, better customer service. Speeds the same or a little faster. Took off one star for raising the price after one year. When I signed up Sonic was clearly a better deal than ATT, now I save just a few dollars a month, but I do not have to renegotiate my rate every 6-12 months like I did with ATT. I like the fact that they promise not to track you web usage. One unexpected glitch, they subcontract ATT Uverse service and modems where I live, so expected the fax capability to be the same. However, I cannot fax over Sonic VOIP while I could on ATT's set-up. They use a different phone modem (ATA), I guess that is the difference. You can only fax by logging into their web portal. And that is very basic, can't save fax numbers or pull contact info from an address book, or save send faxes etc. (I know faxing is so last century, it is just not a choice when I have to do it.) They also don't supply battery back-up for the VOIP and modem even though they charge slightly more for the equipment rental. However in my case, I was able to keep the old ATT/Belkin battery back-up unit and it is working just fine with the new Sonic/ATT gateway/modem. I definitely like having internet and phone when the power fails. You can pick-up the Belkin 12V battery backups for a pretty reasonable price on eBay. (These back-ups supply 12v directly to the modem, not 120V and are cheaper.) If there is one improvement I would really like it would be to get faster up loads speeds. I would definitely trade a little download for upload. Backups just crawl. This is not a Sonic specific criticism ATT was the same. read more

We've been with Sonic for years (copper wires, Palo Alto). The price is right. Internet delivery has been reliable, unlike Comcast. The very rare service problems are resolved easily. I waited 20 days for that appointment. Called Sonic and they had no real answer. They managed to get me a new appointment 15 days later. So it it takes 35 days to install internet? I've had Sonic for my in-home phone and DSL/internet (there is not yet fiber in my neighborhood, and we don't want or need cable) for almost 6 years now. Set up was easy and seamless, in spite of requiring ATT to come out and make the final connections. Both the phone and network service has been rock solid -- perhaps out an average of 10 minutes a year, whereas other services boast of "99% availability" -- which could mean 88 hours per year! The in-home phone line deal is great, including many long calls to family in England at no extra cost. Customer service has been great: The few times I've needed to call, got immediate answer from a live, domestic, knowledgeable person. The most recent time, in addition to helping fix the problem I was having, when I asked him about the network speeds, he led me to understand it was not a problem with my DSL line, but rather contention on my WIFI due to the 2.5Ghz network of my old router. He helped me get a newer, 5Ghz router, and now things are much better. Even before that, the DSL was usually fine for video streaming -- now it's more solid, including for lots of Zoom. --A VERY satisfied customer read more
