For people in the NYC area, Sonic is only found in New Jersey and Long Island, so this is one of the locations to go to if you are nearby. Their wide ranging menu reminds me a lot of Checkers. It is very extensive compared to most fast food places and includes the following: tater tots, milk shakes, hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, sundaes, wings, corn dogs, and even philly cheesesteaks. However, the food here is not as good as Checkers and is just okay. I find their burgers to be a little dry and the wings are really small. Also, whereas Checkers has a lot of value deals (like 2 sandwiches for $5, or $2 specialty burgers), Sonic does not. For NJ, the food feels especially overpriced. Decided to jump off the highway to grab something to eat before our road trip home. Waze said 1.1 mile but it ended up feeling more like 11.11 miles. Finally made it and went to the car hop side. Pushed the button and the screen indicated someone will be right with you. We waited 7 mins and not a soul came over to greet us or say anything on the screen. Someone came beside us and he was greeted immediately. We heard the person saying the boards were not working and to come thru the drive thru. We decided to go inside. The food didn't take too long. It's the first Sonic I've been in that I didn't actually smell the food. I ordered onion rings with my meal. Whatever they fried the onions in taste like funnel cake batter. I stopped by to get burgers for my kids and was not at all pleased. I ordered two kids burger meals. One with cheese and one without. When I got to the window they only had a burger and a drink for me. Saying that I didn't order the meal only the burger. I said whatever just give me what you have and I will be on my way. As I'm driving out of the parking lot on of my boys starts crying because there is cheese on his burger. He is not allergic or anything but since he doesn't like it I always order without. Anyway, I went back there and asked them if they could please give me another one without cheese like I ordered and showed them the receipt where it said plain ketchup only. They took it back there and came back with a bag. We left and half way out of the lot my sons starts screaming again saying there is still cheese on his burger!. I ask to see it and sure enough there was cheese. They never gave me another one...they just took out the cheese from the one I handed in. Except the cheese had melted all over the bun and was impossible to get completely out. I'm furious and disgusted. I never would have thought that they would do something like this. I had driven by this location on Route 1 so many times on my way to New Jersey Nets games but resisted stopping in because i knew i would fall in love....well, the romance has finally blossomed! They are open 24 hours but it was past midnight and it had been raining hard so there was no service to the car. Regardless, the food here rerally is epic. I ordered jumbo popcorn chicken with tater tots and a coke, my friends had a loaded burger, a breakfast burrito (serverd any time of the day) and some pepper poppers. All the food we ordered only came out to 21 bucks, which is a steal. I don't know if it's because of the late hour, but we were skimped on condiments. I was given one small buttermilk ranch cup for a huge box of popcorn chicken which wasn't enough and no ketchup in the bag. You may want to ask for these when you make the order. The menu is pretty massive for a "fast food" joint and it could be overwhelming to look at for the first time. All types of burgers, hot dogs, chicken, breakfast and other bites. They also make different slushes and shakes that look interesting! Best of all is everything is pretty cheap! Sonic is great and needs to come a little closer to NYC. Until recently there wasn't a Sonic in NY, and even so, the only one is on the Southern side of the middle of nowhere, so suffice to say I've not had many Sonic experiences in my lifetime. Whenever I would see a Sonic commercial I would be filled with a mix of sadness and rage that there wasn't one anywhere within a reasonable driving distance. I did get to go once about 10 years ago in New Mexico and that almost doesn't count since their menu was completely different. I assume a New Mexico state law states that at least 25% of the menu items need to come with green chili. Seems like it anyway. That Green Chili Sonic burger was good. So about THIS Sonic, it wasn't bad. Its nice and all to have people roller skate out to your car, though this means you need to add a tip to the cost of your meal, lest ye look like a douche bag. (we were already too close to the Jersey Shore as is) As for the food, the burger I got was pretty good, and it was nice to have a pretty decent set of condiments and extras. The tater tots were decent, but the standout item for me were the cheddar stuffed jalapenos - the filling actually tasted fairly close to real cheddar, and they were very tasty. The best part of the meal was the strawberry limeade I got - yes there were slices of lime in there, but better, there was real strawberry pulp! That was so good. Although my choice of food for breakfast is an unusual breakfast choice, it's refreshing to have the food taste the way it's suppose to taste. Im usually satisfied with my food at this location and feel that other locations could use them as training guide (see my other Sonic reviews). This sonic was a good spot to go to. The staff were all friendly. The food however was great and flavorful. I love coming to jersey for sonic cause in parts of NY we do not have sonic so I'm glad when I'm in Jersey I can go to a sonic to enjoy a good burger or beverage. The happy hour is so amazing. I try to make the happy hour just to get the good deals. I'm glad they have a inside seating as well. I think it's convenient. Drinks are fine (make sure they gave youbthe right one) Mozzarella sticks are great! The sandwiches need more work at this location. The tomatoes are mushy so that means they aren't fresh, youll get a better chicken sandwich at Wendy's! They dont put enough lettuce and its usually shredded lettuce and since they dont put enough lettuce the chicken sandwhich or burger ends up being soggy. Tge bread ends up absorbing yhe juices. The lettuce and tomatoes end up being warm due to lack of freshness, warm lettuce and soggy tomatoes. Quality control is needed at this location! read more

Whenever I see a Sonic commercial I get really sad because there isn't one in NY. Then I find out there's a couple in NJ... so I say lets go. We went for a really early lunch 10:30am since we were on our way to PA. So we got into the drive though line, unsure if the place was even open (YES IT WAS!) and ordered tater tots, onion rings, cheery limeade, a chicken sandwich, one NY dog and one Chi dog. Got the food and drove off. Unfortunately at this location, cant speak for any other, you do not get ketchup with your order. Ate all the tater tots and onion rings (extra yummy because they were straight out of the fryer and super crunchy), drank all the delicious cherry limeade and gobbled down the chi dog (highly recommend) and ny dog (tastes like a dirty water dog) and did not like the chicken sandwich. So the first experience was a good one. On the way back from PA i had a hankering for another Chi dog and cherry limeade and we hit it up on the way back to NY... this time it was 9pm on a Sunday. We went to the drive through again since the car hop parking was packed and ordered our chi dog, hamburger, onion rings and cherry limeade. This time I remembered to ask for ketchup. Drive off and was disappointed. Chi dog was super salty, no poppy seed bun and just didn't taste right, hamburger was no good. Only thing that was ok were the onion rings (not straight out of the fryer) and cherry limeade. I guess this sonic is hit or miss. I've been to several Sonics in different states and this is one of the better, newer ones. But there's not really much to say about it...it's Sonic. It's a fast-food joint and you're getting fast food. Don't expect incredible cuisine or even "the best fast food burger I've ever had" because it's pretty average food. Sonic's main appeal is their huge drink menu and the drive-in style service. Any type of drink you want, they have; if they don't, you can literally custom-make anything your heart desires. Then they come out on roller skates to serve it right to your window. It's a cute experience if you've never been there before. I seriously come all the way to Jersey just to eat here! I love that you have the choice of going in, going through the drive through, or sitting in an area so the employees can roller skate over to you. Surprisingly, they never get my order wrong, which says a lot considering they are a fast food chain. Their food comes in large portions, even if you order something small. I ordered a double cheeseburger and it was humongous. DC's from McDonald's are never this humongous. I could barely finish it. My only complaint is that every time I eat that specific burger, I feel so bloated afterwards. It's probably from one of the sauces they put inside. The burger is filled to the brim with loads on it. I also ordered BBQ wings and they're full of flavor. Their Buffalo chicken isn't as appetizing. Every time I order, it seems like they whipped them straight out of the microwave. Yum in the hood. The shakes are awesome! The employees are always pleasant and go out if their way to ensure satisfaction. Just this evening while waiting in a huge drive-thru line in the pouring rain, I witnessed a few employees bringing food out to the cars in line in an attempt to get the line moving faster - and it worked.
