This was my first time going to Mr. Subs, and unfortunately, the customer service completely ruined the experience for me. I initially told the employee I wanted a cold sandwich. While looking at the menu, I noticed they had hot sandwiches and asked about the hot pastrami. Instead of simply letting me change my order, the employee responded with an attitude, telling me that I had originally said I wanted a cold sandwich. He then started snapping his fingers and rushing me, saying he had things to do. I'm a customer standing there trying to decide what I want to order. I should not feel rushed or disrespected for taking a moment to look at the menu and change my mind. No good. Very unsanitary. The guy cutting the meat has very hairy hands and arms. He doesn't use gloves. His hairy hands were all over the meat. Also, scraps of meat were on the floor under the sink. The subs are dry and pales in comparison to subs from Jersey Mike's. Altough the volume of meat on the subs are good, the quality of meat is questionable as it was tasteless. Located at a small strip mall off on a busy Route 1-9 South in Rahway, some of my colleague have visited this establishment and enjoyed their sandwiches which I came for lunch. An order was placed over the phone with Mr. Subs for their 8" cold sub #11 Roast Beef and Turkey combo with Swiss cheese, oil, vinegar, lettuce and tomato. At the end of our conversation , my order would be ready in 5 minutes. Upon arrival, the place looked cozy whose menu was posted on the wall with a few tables for indoor dining. The manager, Odalis and his team greeted me with my order. The bread was soft and chewy. There was a decent amount of meat - not too much, boarderline too little. I ordered a half sub to-go for lunch last week. I got the Mr. Sub sub (#4), which has pressed ham, pepperoni, salami, and cheese (I went with provolone). You have a choice of white bread or wheat. I got my sandwich on white and with everything. "Everything" here means lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, salt, pepper, and oregano. The sandwich was delicious! Fresh ingredients, great tasting bread, and just the right amount of oil and vinegar (no soggy mess here). The Rahway location is small. It's the middle shop in a three-shop, strip mall building. There's a small parking lot. It's right off of Route 1. If you drive down Paterson Ave to get here; it's on a cul-de-sac road. Even though the shop is small and there aren't many seats, the location doesn't skimp on the quality of its food. It's good for pick-up/to-go. Wow what a surprise! In the world of sandwich chains, I'm a Potbelly's guy. These are definitely better than Jimmy John's and Subway. This is based on delivery. We ordered two half sandwiches -- one Italian cold sub with jalapeño, banana peppers, hot relish and one roast beef & turkey cheese combo with jalapeño and Banana peppers. Yes, our home keeps it spicy during most meals, we know! All sammies seemed eight inches and hefty. I can't imagine what a whole sandwich is, to be fair. It would be larger than my torso! The portion note I do suggest is a touch more meat on the Italian. It felt thinnish. I do think the hot relish (which is their version of giardiniera?) added a hot crunch and more vinegary contrast to dense porcine deli meats. The bread is soft and I opted for whole wheat which had didn't sacrifice pillowy texture and even better, didn't give or collapse at the mega works of toppings and vinegar & olive oil I ordered. All in all, a half sandwich feels like two sturdy meals for one especially if you have chips with your order. I'll definitely order from them again! This is a pretty typical sandwich shop. I'd say a tier below the other New Jersey-based chain that shares my first name. They do have a nice selection of sandwiches, representing pretty much any type of combination of nears that you could imagine. I do think the sign they have in front of the counter that explains what their "everything" includes is somewhat misleading since the do have other toppings that what is shown. One of the photos on Yelp shows the menu boards, two things to be aware of since that photo was taken- first, the prices have gone up so don't count on getting the bargain you see in that photo- and second, it appears they no longer offer hot sandwiches as seen in that same picture, all they have now on he menu are cold sandwiches. Best to take your sandwich to go. There is no fountain soda machine; and they seem to use the dining area for storage with boxes stacked everywhere, so the few tables they do have are all crammed together. read more
