By far Big Blue's is my all time favorite sandwich spot on the East coast! Yes I said it ... the East coast. I grew up eating here and in all the years I can never find anything that compares and I've tried a lot of spots. Every time I go I get a hot turkey and pastrami sandwich and it hits every time. The bread is perfection, they provide a lot of meat but not too much and the pickle tops everything off. They used to be on Wood Ave right next to the train station but now they're up the street in a bigger location. It's nice to be able to have a lot of space to sit inside but I must say the parking can be a little tricky since there's limited spots and Elizabeth ave is a busy street. I wish Big Blue's all the success and I can't wait till I'm back visiting and I can come grab a sandwich. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Big Blues has moved. After years in the same location, they are now located on E Elizabeth ave. Just a few minutes from the old location. I stopped in to say Hi to the fellas. But none of the Fellas were there. I just hope the food is still good, seeing that the original crew isn't there. 3 stars for now, because my guys are not there. read more

When in Jersey you eat like you from Jersey and not a tourist. Better yet, you don't ask for a sub and settle for less. I love the location ( good & easy parking). I'm greeted by the smell of pastrami and grilled onions. I tried a small loaded steak & cheese. I watched the man add the lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and toasted the bread... I'm like ok you have the right ingredients but what about the taste. As I took my first bite, a smile of contentment crossed my face! Yea buddy, you know what you doing! I know I asked fir a small but my stomach said half is all you need to be full and I listened. No need to over indulge when I can enjoy part 2 later on. I had ordered cheese fries from this place and normally the cheese is cheese but the cheese you could barely taste it and the fries were dry, some of the fries had no cheese and I had get ketchup for the fries at the bottom. I had also got Italian cheese burger and it had WAYY too much ketchup, I like ketchup but not like have they put on the burger I would not recommend to anyone near the area. I was in Linden for a funeral and got to the train station an hour early. I'd never been to Linden, so I walked down to Wood Avenue in search of lunch and happened upon Big Blue Subs. I'm glad I did. The first thing that hit me was how sparkling clean the place was. The second thing was that they had Italian hot dogs, a delicacy unobtainable in Brooklyn and one I hadn't had in over 40 years. For the uninitiated, an Italian hot dog is a deep-fried beef hot dog (two if you're ordering a double as I did) smothered in grilled peppers and onions and topped with 1/2" thick deep-fried potato discs all nestled in a pillowy-soft pizza roll. I ordered a double and was told to take a seat at one of the sparkling clean tables and it would be brought out to me. My first impression was that this is one huge meal. I started in on the potato discs. The were nicely crispy outside and soft and nearly creamy inside. they were, despite being deep-fried, decidedly not greasy. Once I got through them, I started to eat the double dogs smothered in onions and peppers in that soft, fluffy roll. Despite being famished when I walked through the door, I couldn't get more than halfway through my perfect double Italian hot dog before I had to throw in the towel. I've had more than a few Italian hot dogs in my mis-spent youth, and they were usually soggy, greasy, delicious messes. My Big Blue Subs Double Italian Hot Dog was absolute perfection, It was not greasy, it was not soggy and even the potatoes were perfectly fried, but not greasy. If I'm ever back in Linden, I will definitely return! read more

Sometimes you get a sandwich from other places and there's a missing element, whether it be the deli meat, stale bread, ridiculous charges for extra toppings, and the list goes on. At Big Blue's none of these will be an issue. The meat is quality: not the cheap, low grade deli meat that's packed with salt! The bread is fresh which makes a huge difference on the sub experience. Went there today for then first time to try their tuna fish sandwich. It was very good and I wasn't disappointed! I wish they made a smaller size because even the 6 inch was too big for me (the reason I gave it 4 stars). How about a kid size sandwich (3 inches)? Just a suggestion! :) I would definitely go back! They have a new location two doors down from where they use to be. They have long hours and a great menu with a variety of delicious-sounding sandwiches. The guys working there were very nice. The worse customer service I ever experienced from the person taking the orders on the phone to the service you receive in person . I ordered my sub a half hour before my arrival , just to wait another 20 minutes because the person taking the orders on the phone wasn't actually taking orders . This sub shop has been a part of my life for years now. The sandwiches will literally change your whole perspective on small sub shops. The shop is always super clean & bright to see what they have to offer, everything is made fresh to order, they even cut the own deli meat (which sounds like it should be a given but you'll be surprised at some sub shops). The staff is always friendly & ready to take your order either in person or ahead of time on the phone. was always my go to spot, subs nice and fresh sometimes a longer wait then normal. Went in to get a sub see a new sign stating there's a 3.9% charge on all credit cards , so I asked about it. The guy tries to say it's tax- but the prices written on the sign say prices include tax. So he says it's a new law-(it's not) they are charging the credit card fee on top of the tax. In addition they have raised prices ( which I'm ok with). I will not pay an extra charge to use my card to buy from you. read more

this is right across the street, so i visit this place a lot. their burgers are great, get one with cheese and fried onions. their subs are top notch, and the selection is actually too big. their onion rings are homemade and five star. great sides and super big homemade dills for a buck. (i'm a big fan of their potato salad, which is kinda german salady. i suspect it's not made in house, but i never leave without it. oh yea--their soups are amazing--but they run out a lot, so order it early in the day. the only oddity is the italian hot dog. the star ledger named it one of the best in the state, but i wasn''t impressed. too many potatoes, and greasy. other than that, i highly recommend the place. read more
