Ou La Restaurant & Bar is the kind of place you want to see succeed. From the moment we walked in,…read morethe service was warm, professional and genuinely attentive. Our entire party wasn't there yet, but we were seated anyway, which I really appreciated. The staff checked in on us consistently without being overbearing, and while we waited for the rest of our party, we were asked if we wanted a drink. That small gesture stood out to me because a lot of restaurants will make you wait until everyone arrives before they even offer you anything. Here, they made us feel welcomed right away. Now, the food. We ordered the steak and eggs, island oxtail burrito, island burger with egg, and I decided to make my own combination. I ordered the Ou La wings and asked if I could get a side of diri jon jon (Haitian black mushroom rice). They were happy to accommodate the request, and everyone enjoyed their meals. One thing that really impressed me was how quickly an issue with the steak was handled. The steak had been ordered medium well, but came out well done. It was mentioned, and once it was brought to the chef's attention, the chef came back just a couple of minutes later with the steak prepared the way it was originally requested. A big deal wasn't made about it, so the fact that he took the initiative to correct it so quickly said a lot to me about how seriously they take their customers and food. And then there was the kremas! I noticed that they had a cocktail called Café Kremas, which is essentially an espresso version of a traditional kremas. It sounded interesting, but I really wanted to try the kremas by itself. I asked, and they were more than happy to accommodate me. Again, that willingness to listen and make the customer happy really stood out. The ambiance is beautiful. Everything feels thoughtfully designed, from the aesthetics to the layout. There's a separate bar area, and you can actually see the chefs working and preparing the food, which adds to the experience. Ou La is doing something special. The food was good, the atmosphere is beautiful, but what really stood out to me was the service. The staff was pleasant, attentive, professional, and clearly focused on making sure the customers were taken care of. If you're thinking about eating at this restaurant, I'm telling you to do it. Support this business and tip well. We need more restaurants that understand great food is only part of the experience. Customer service is important, and Ou La gets that. There is metered parking directly in front of the restaurant. If those spots are full, there's additional parking in the lot behind the restaurant near the church. I would also suggest making a reservation, especially if you're planning to go during a busy brunch or dinner service.

For starters we had the shrimp tacos!!! $17 for 2 but worth every penny! And they were by far The best I've ever had!! Very fresh toppings and perfectly seasoned. And I loved the green sauce they topped it with. For dinner my husband and I split the $19 classic burger and substituted the fries for a Caesar salad. We also subbed the cheddar cheese for the smoked Gouda and omg chefs kiss!! Ordered it medium and It was cooked perfectly! For drinks we had a coke soda $3.50 and an uptown girl (lychee martini) $14 Both were good. The servers were really nice. The vibe was laid back. The volume of the music was perfect. The bathrooms were really clean. If ever in the area again I'd definitely come back!

I just wish they had a bit more crisp or char. For mains, we got the classic burger, veggie burger, and chicken milanese. The chicken definitely drives this review. The breading is crisped to perfection and the meat itself is nice and juicy. The salad on top provides a nice contrast and had me wishing I had a bit more to gobble up. The main bar space has high ceilings so it allows for you to not feel like you're on top of one another.

Answered our many questions about the menu and all of the different menu items and dessert options! All of the hot food was prepared quickly and was all FRESH MTO - which I can really appreciate and value in places! Clean and cute location! It was easy to access with street parking! Purchased two different bagel options, pancakes, home fries, house-made soda and MANY desserts (there were so many + they were so good that I ended up trying all 5 of them on the journey home and they were all 10/10). First taste was so good that we ended up circling back for more before hitting the road. We were helped by Kelly who made me want to drive all the way back from NC to NJ to place another order tomorrow morning! Gems like these are why I love to leave a glowing review! Keep being phenomenal!!

They're using aluminum trays, which I'm assuming get reused bc they're all bent out of shape. So, for this reason(and one more below) I've given 3, instead of 4 stars. My kids do love the sandwiches, and an added bonus are the chips of your choice. Okay, so a while back, when they first opened up, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Being on a health journey, I was looking forward to a delicious salad. Unfortunately, they did not knock it out of the park. The chicken is seasoned weird. I really couldn't put my finger on it, not sure if it's cumin or something else, but it had this weird flavor that I do not want at all on grilled chicken. I don't even think it's cumin, I'm really not sure: I haven't ordered a salad since, or a chicken sandwich, bc I couldn't accept that flavor in my mouth honestly, I'm being nice here BTW. To make it worse, there was a hair in my salad. If it wasn't for my family, I would've stopped getting food here. They convinced me to give them a try again. Glad I did, I may even consider trying the chicken again, but will be extremely disappointed if it tastes the same lol Either way, this is a good spot for bagels and sandwiches. Just hoping they will get some normal trays for bagels. It'll make the place look more clean, professional and overall aesthetically pleasing. The staff is super nice, really helpful, friendly, and informative.

My sister and I were in town and needed to find something to eat and discovered Nettie's. This was really good soul food. I ordered the chicken and waffle and it was PERFECTION. Plus, my husband saw this place advertised online. Here is what we thought: Atmosphere: Really nice and clean establishment with a down home feel, but quite small. Still, they had six or more small tables and at least two outside, but it was too chilly to enjoy food outside. Service: The wait time was an hour, and they ran out of items like crab cakes, so we adjusted what we wanted to try. The cashier greeted us professionally. She wasn't overly friendly, but more matter-of-fact with her tone, especially when asking us what we wanted to order and informing us of the wait time, which was quite alright because it was like telling your auntie what you wanted to eat. Food: The food was okay. It wasn't nasty, and it was nothing to write home about. I had the stuffed salmon with mac and cheese and yams. My husband had the fried whiting with potato salad and cabbage. The portions are child-sized and not worth what's being charged, especially since the food is just okay, in our opinion. The salmon I had did not appear to have real crabmeat in it, and it was so thin I could not believe it. It was a slither, really. My husband said his whiting was nicely seasoned and I agree but it could have been crispier and the potato salad was meh. Again, not at all nasty but not the best soul food either. It was decent. Would we get food here again? Sure, if there are no other options. It's a good place to grab food if you are not too hungry, live in Rahway and want a bit of soul food and do not want to drive north.
