Ok...so I'm not a huge fan of fried chicken and have only made it once (save micro aggressions). However, I used to live across the street from Burger Express and everyone raved about their chicken. I love that I can drive thru at any time and get deeee-licious mozzarella sticks! On this particular evening I called in an order for a 6 piece fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, mashed potatoes and macaroni & cheese. (Pretty much avoiding cooking). Re: the macaroni & cheese and mashed potatoes...I knew better. I won't complain & that's all I will say. The chicken though! The coating was very good and crispy, the chicken tender. This is the best fast food in the area, and even better because it's privately owned and not a franchise. Anyway, they have hands down the best cheese fries I've ever had. I've been to many different states and no one comes close to these perfect cheese fries. It's not a pile of fries with a square of cheese melted on the top, or fries with nacho cheese on top. I can't even explain what this cheese is but it's a perfect cheese sauce that is mild yet still flavorful and pairs perfectly with the crispy yet potato-y crinkle cut fries. They are usually very generous with the cheese sauce also which gives them big points in my book! They also have a solid chicken sandwich, and I enjoy the burger called burger express, it tastes different from other fast food burgers I am not sure why. Their biscuits are definitely microwaved so pass on that. If I decide to be on the healthier side, I really like their chicken panini or wrap. It's grilled chicken with roasted red pepper, mozzarella and balsamic- very tasty and comes with a side of fries. The baked potato soup is delicious, it's thick and kind of just like eating mashed potatoes with all the baked potato fixings. They are always doing a "burger of the month" special and I've never tried any but they always sound interesting! I remember the inside being nice but to be honest I'm a drive thru kind of girl when it comes to burger express. 1st, it's EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. 2nd the quality has gone down the toilet. The chicken sandwich used to be awesome. Now the chicken is cut extremely thin and is extremely dry and stringy like it's totally overcooked. The burgers are rubbery and the fries are stale. And like I said it's EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. I will never go here again. And you shouldn't either! They are now charging $.50 for a 1oz. cup of Ranch dressing that was free for the past decade. I can see adding a fee due to the increase of food and gas but that is obscene to charge $.50. You know there is only 1/2 an oz. Of dressing in those cups so charging that much is ridiculous. I hate leaving poor reviews but I just spent $35 on a delivery order and everything was awful. The chicken sandwich was dry/chewy, the milkshake tastes like actual milk, the Mac & cheese is watery, mozzarella sticks are chewy vs cheesy, and I put a note for no pickles or onions on the burger and they put both. I dunno what to say about this place lol I've been here a handful of times and it really is the only place to eat around here. Carteret is one of those towns that when you Yelp for a place, most of the results are outside of the city. Especially if you're like me and don't eat fast food. Never done the drive thru, but I can imagine that taking forever. I'm also not a big red meat eater, so I've only had the chicken sandwiches. They're alright, not bad or horrible. I remember liking the fries a lot more than I thought I would though. They also have green tea. Which is awesome. There's a bar upstairs, Never been there though. If you go for breakfast Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese and it comes with a small coffee for free. There is something about their coffee that I just love especially with that breakfast sandwich. 24 HOUR Drive Thru which comes in handy for me so I love it. Separate bar upstairs called the Station Tavern for local drinking, plenty of weekly specials on food and drinks. The staff is friendly beats driving far for a drink. The place is clean. Downstairs is a local hangout of all ages with outdoor seating in summer. Plenty of parking in the lot and off street if for some reason its super busy. Also got the spicy wings, which lacked flavor (let alone spice), which leads me to assume the plain wings really lack flavor. This is unacceptable, especially when 6 wings and fries cost $11. This place was recommended by a friend and I just happened to be in the area today and figured I would give it a try. What a mistake. I ordered a regular burger with extra pickle and what I received I wouldn't serve to a homeless person that was starving. Let start with the over size stale roll they use followed by the burger patty just around 1/2 the size of the roll and as thin as a white castle burger. Did I mention I asked for extra pickle. I guess 1 is what you normally get because I got 2... The cheese fries with gravy where actually good for the top part of the order. As far as the mashed potatoes go, i won't hold it against BE that i should have opted for the fries, which i don't do often... 4 star worthy just on the food, no.... What can I say, I really this place. I've been coming to Burger Express since the original one used to be open. This one is much nicer and modern and thankfully the food hasn't changed. The chicken is real good, the burgers are always consistent, the corn nuggets are a great side and the cheese fries are good too just don't leave them in the box if you get takeout (the steam ruins them). Porkroll and cheese on a roll is pretty good too, even though they call it Taylor ham here. I am sure I'll be back soon. read more

Not cooked to temp and with a slightly stale bun, this is maybe a step above McDonalds, but not as good as 5 guys (and I'm not a 5 guys fan at all). 2 stars for the burger. The fried chicken was ok. Not the best, not the worst. The batter was a little bland, and the chicken was small, but it was cooked properly. 3 stars. The ribs were the best thing I had, but they were expensive. They were almost lollipop style, but the meat was very tender and the bbq sauce was good. 4 stars for that. Average is a 3, but I'm not in a hurry to go back.
