I worked for ACE hardware for a number of years and always tried to work with the customer. I purchased a can of miss tint paint because the outside of the can had a lot of black paint on it. when I got it home and opened it up it was white paint. I brought it back and just wanted to be tinted black and the gentleman ROD said I can not tint it. I will never buy anything again from ACE even if it cost double the amount. I went to refill my 20 pound gas grill propane tank and the person said he can't fill a tank over 5 years old. He said I could buy a new one or get a exchange. I was in a hurry so I went to Walmart and exchanged it. It bothered me so I looked up the regulation and it says propane tanks are good for 12 years. A reconditioned one is good for 5, 7 or 12 years depending on the certification process. This was a 10 year old tank that I purchased new. I have had it refilled there since I had the tank and never had a issue with filling it. I called and he said again 5 years which I told him he was exactly incorrect. Then he tried to say it was 5 years for a reconditioned tank which mine was not. I believe he flat out lied so I would buy a new tank, which I didn't. I'm not going back to that store. I found that u haul fills them and their price is better. I do not like being told information that is not correct. read more

Despite a corporate policy of accepting returns at any Ace nationwide within 30 days of purchase with a receipt and in the original packaging, this location won't. Just told me "sorry"; return to the store you bought it---except I bought it while traveling so I won't ever be able to return to that location. Just had an absolute great experience with the folks over here at Ace Hardware. Customer service was fantastic. They were able to locate the part I needed held it for me for me to drive over and it was less than $10. Great value great experience I wish I lived closer to the store, but it's worth the drive. read more

Went in today with a friend to have some keys made; front checkout gentleman ignored our request and helped others [at least 3 customers who had come in AFTER us were helped before us!] until we let him know we needed the keys back as we couldn't spend the entirety of our lunch break at this Ace. There was another employee loitering in the back of the store so I'm confused as to why he wasn't called to assist all of the customers. When we got our keys back and explained our reason for leaving the employee didn't apologize or attempt to help / stop us from leaving in any manner. Very odd. I like helping and frequenting small businesses as much as possible but today was frustrating to say the least. read more

Most of the time, there are few customers in the place and I can get immediate attention. In those occasions, I get great attention and a good purchase experience. But occasionally, there is some sort of snotty internal snits, and I waited waay too long to get a key made; the fellow was stocking shelves, and ignored me for too long. Then, when he finally came over to the key station, he ignored the right key, and insisted on looking through all the others, even telling me to butt out and let him look through all the wrong keys. Completely incompetent. I called this location to see if they had a specific paint I needed in stock. The poor girl at the register answered the phone and didn't know anything about paint, which is not her fault. She asked another employee about the paint and told me they had it. When I got there, I went to the paint department and of course they didn't have it. The girl I spoke to on the phone said she asked one of the other employees who works in paint and he told her they just "mix up what the customer needs," so she assumed that meant they had what I wanted. I don't blame her. Then another older, bald (no offense) employee came over. When I told him the specific paint code on paint can I needed, which I gave over the phone, he picked up a different can and said that was it. The code on the can was not what I asked for. I was visibly angry at this point as I had driven a long way to get there thinking they had what I needed. The older employee gave a half-ass, smarmy apology and said, "it was an honest mistake." If he had given me a sincere apology, I wouldn't have been so mad. But his attitude was what sent me over the edge. If you have any brains at all, you'll steer clear of this store. read more

Daniel Ace Hardware offers outstanding customer service in the spirit of an old-time, neighborhood hardware store. Daniel, the owner, is active in the business and has been in the store each and every time I've shopped there. His crew offers friendly and helpful service and the store's prices are quite competitive. I just purchased a Weber grill from them. (3/12/2012) As anyone knows who has shopped for one, Weber grills are sold at a set price wherever you shop: Home Depot, Lowes, etc. No discounts. Home Depot offered free assembly if ordered on line. Well, why would I purchase mine from Daniel Ace Hardware? Because Mr. Daniel happily offered to assemble and deliver the grill to my home at no additional charge. That's what friendly, helpful, neighborly service is all about. Sure, in recent months Home Depot and Lowes have tried to create a similar spirit in their stores by instructing idle cashiers to stand out front of their checkout areas and say "Good morning/afternoon. Thanks for shopping at Home Depot (Lowes). Can I help you find something." But this approach is canned and phony. And even worse, if you ask someone for help, 9 out of 10 times no one knows anything about how projects should be tackled. I'm not saying "Don't shop at Home Depot/Lowes." There are plenty of reasons and opportunities to patronize them. And I'm also not preaching "Support your local merchant." Lastly, I'm not touting that all Ace Hardware stores offer this level of service. Morgan Ace Hardware, which is actually closer to my home, flat out refused to offer either free assembly or free delivery. Yes, Ace's website offers free shipping (of a huge box) to your local store. But then what do you do? Not everyone has a truck or the ability to assemble the grill.. If you want to experience good service, then visit Daniel Ace Hardware. You will be very pleased. read more

They are helpful, if they don't have what you need often they can tell you who does have it, but I can't think of three times I've been in there to find I had to go somewhere else, too. "Ace is the place for the helpful hardware...", well thats the slogan anyways. It couldn't be further from the truth here. I'm of the opinion that the team at this ace suffer from a carbon monoxide leak somewhere in the building. I say this because nowhere else on earth will you find a more lax, care less group of employees. They will help you after you track someone down and ask, but even then they let you know that they are doing you a favor. Never mind that you passed a Home Depot and a Wal-mart on your way over so you could support "local business". The store always has the random stuff that you will not find at the big box retailers, and I suppose thats part of the business model, but the customer service is atrocious. One of the employees is a shorter bald headed man who'll follow you around the store if you linger for more than 10 minutes to make sure you don't steal stuff. I kid you not! I'm a grown man looking for wood putty and this guys is 007'ing me through the isles. Whats up with that? You may have noticed I just made a verb out of 007...feel free to use it down the road at no charge. Stay away from this place! Go to Home Depot, Morgans Ace hardware in downtown Woodstock or dare I say it...Wal-Mart. Ok, So, Daniel Ace Hardware was fantastic as they saved the day from a lack luster U-Haul location down the street at 11300 Hwy 92 Woodstock, GA 30188 I went in a week prior to renting a 5x9 open trailer to bring my golf cart down to the beach and leave it there. I asked two of the associates at 11300 Hwy 92 Woodstock, GA 30188 during my reservation if they had a one way rental since I was driving 5 hours with a golf cart and didn't need it for the drive back. There are 3 drop off points within 3-5 miles of my destination. The guys told me sorry the open trailers aren't in the one way program so you'll have to bring it back. Ok well then it is what it is and I made the reservation. After making the reservation he told me that they didn't have any 5x9s there and he would find one by the time I pick it up. A day before departure I called them at 11300 Hwy 92 Woodstock, GA 30188 and told them that nobody emailed or contacted me. He apologized and then a few hours later I got a confirmation but now I had to go to another location farther away. I arrived at Daniel Ace Hardware where it was there and ready. I asked the man at Daniel Ace why they didn't do the one way open trailers and what if I were moving to another state would I have to bring it back? He looked at me like I had 2 heads and said of course we do that and here's the price $89 but he didn't have one there based on age of trailer but here's the address where they do have one. It was too late to travel to get that one so I rented the one that I had to bring back that cost me $130. Anyhow... Daniel Ace was great and UHaul 11300 Hwy 92 Woodstock, GA 30188 was not and cost me gas mileage issues dragging the trailer back 5 plus hours, cost me an additional 40 plus dollars and didn't contact me as promised. I'd have to agree with Ryan....I had HORRIBLE service at this Ace Hardware location. I ran into the same older employee and on one occasion was treating like an incompetent human being, then the other occasion I tried to use their U-Haul services, and it was the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my entire life. I come inside with my printed U-Haul reservation, walk to the back where I'm confronted with the same employee that treated me horribly the last time. I then am "scolded" that he didn't see my reservation earlier that morning! He then walks outside to hook my trailer up to my BMW X5, where he begins to BARK ORDERS as to how to back a vehicle up. Keep in mind, I OWN an open trailer and am just the expert as any other experienced person with a trailer, yet he would not quit. After I had enough of his treating me like garbage, I kindly said I did not appreciate being treated like a teenager (I'm 35), then asked to cancel my reservation. I do not know where the previous shopper went but it was not Daniel Ace Hardware. These know what they are talking about and have most of the regular things and hard to find gadgets a homeowner would need. Granted they do not nave the inventory of a big box store like Lowes or Home Depot but you get friendly personal service. I would much rather support a local businessman than the local HD. They also have mower repair which you will not find at the big box stores. The "old man" the previous writer was commenting about will follow you around but that is to be close to you when you have a question. He knows his stuff all you have to do is ask. I guess he was trained not to be pushy but let the customer ask first. Overall I drive out of my way to support them. read more

I'm definitely a fan. And, compared to the competition, this place is great...but not perfect. I guess I might be picky when I complain about them being out of obscure small hardware (1/8" roll pins, 1.5" long) but, well, that's what I needed. That being said, they have more hardware than ANY of the big box stores, and have always (except for that roll pin) had whatever I needed. I have always had great service from whoever was there - they certainly know the store and what they have. Seems like they stock more than the typical Ace Hardware selection. Friendly people, average prices, and (for me) convenient location... It's just a hardware store, but a pretty good one at that. read more

Today, I rented aerator #7 from this store. Near the end of my aerating, the aerator began to stall every five feet. Each time it would stall, I would go ass over tea kettle. The final time; receiving a nice gash in my back, bump on my head and a bruise on my forearm.. I barely got the aerator back when the owner of the store comes out to help me unload and such. I tell him what happened. His first finger pointing... It must be because of the position of the choke. Right, It has nothing to do with the fact your machines are not properly maintained... SO the guy, Dan, the bald owner asks me to help him unload the aerator... WTF? I'm looking at this guy, the guy I just told I hurt myself and he needed have one of his employees... He got the oldest guy in the store... Then began to tell me how I needed to get my story straight and how this old guy he got has a bad shoulder... What does this have to do with this poor guy who just got forced into helping out??? So in closing, if you want to rent crappy equipment from a real jerk who will try to emasculate you after you have been injured and don't feel like unloading a 200 pound aerator with an injured shoulder? I've shopped at this store about 2-3 times per year over the last 10 years. I've never had a bad experience and probably all but once or twice they have had exactly the part or tool I needed. On top of that they can help out with most projects by suggesting items that may be needed and help avoid the 2nd trip. I've rented U Haul trailers from them as well and that has been very painless. I'm not sure about the negative reviewers for this store, maybe they have bad experiences everywhere they go?? read more

The customer service is horrendous. The owner, Dan, is very, very rude. If you hit it at the right time, you might get friendly service but that's very, very rare.
