I was traveling through Sequim, and staged there on my way to the Port Angeles ferry. We were looking for a spot to drop in for some food, and after having been on the road for a few days, we were done with burgers and pizza, so when we saw Songohan was near our motel we decided to give them a try. Well, I'm not going to go in to great details, but we were only marginally pleased with the food. Almost all of the rolls were mayo and avocado, which isn't my favorite. We had tataki, and it was more like it had been sliced, then seared, so it was a lot less like sashimi, and a lot more like fish jerky. Wasn't really impressed. If i had come back here again, I would try the Rendang, my suspicion is that they play stronger on the Indonesian side of the menu than traditional Japanese. read more

Ordered the Rendang dinner ($29), and unfortunately, it was extremely disappointing. The beef tasted more like hibachi-style beef than rendang, and the portion was quite small for the price. More importantly, what I received did not match the restaurant's own description or photo on their website. Rendang is traditionally a richly spiced, dry curry dish, but what I received had virtually no curry flavor and very little spice. It was difficult to recognize it as rendang at all based on either the flavor or preparation. When I called the restaurant about it, the person I spoke with was defensive and repeatedly told me that this was simply their version of rendang. They offered no reassurance or options for resolving the issue. Eventually, I had to drive back to the restaurant and insist on having the order refunded. I would not recommend the Indonesian menu, especially to anyone who grew up eating Indonesian cuisine and is looking for something resembling traditional Indonesian food. read more

The service was pleasant. We ordered the calamari, basic spicy tuna, eel and salmon roll, no special rolls. The calamari was a tiny portion for $12.50, I was truly shocked. It tasted fine but hard to enjoy knowing price vs. portion. The tuna and salmon rolls were loaded with spicy mayo & sriracha to the point we had to scrape it off. That made it kind of difficult to taste the actual fish unfortunately. The eel roll was pretty good, definitely the better choice of the three! read more

You can't have lunch sized dishes there on Sunday during lunch time. I was told "If you read right in the menu, no lunch on Sundays." (Only dinner sizes) No teppanyaki on Sundays either. Picked the wrong day for lunch. read more

We've eaten here three times now and I wanted to taste a few things before I made a review.... First thing I noticed is that this is Japanese restaurant has sushi, teppanyaki and Indonesian food. My gut tells me that the owner is actually Indonesian. The first time we were here, Jon tried the poke (which was marinated tuna on a bed of salad). It was ok. We have now tried both the miso soup and the onion soup. We were not a fan of either one. The onion soup has a very strong bonito flavor to it. The miso soup doesn't have any miso in it. So odd. If you study the menu, ALL Special sushi rolls besides two rolls has cream cheese in it. I'm not a fan of cream cheese, so I chose to try the two non- cream cheese rolls on two separate occasions. I'm super happy to report that both the Rosa Roll and the soft shell crab roll were fantastic! Jon had the Izzy roll and he liked it. I didn't care for the chiso drizzled sauce but the rest of his roll was tasty. Jon also previously tried their sashimi salmon. Pieces were a good size and the quality was very good. This "newer" restaurant had some updating done prior to opening the restaurant , but after six months open, there are holes in the booth seats in the back. So weird. Oh. Don't order the green tea.... One would think they should serve Japanese green tea or matcha tea.... But no.... It's Tetley (British) green tea! read more

Honestly, I am not too crazy about the food here. Salty and oily and not something I would describe as Japanese. Probably more Indonesian than anything. Lunch specials are generous. All of the above Absolutely delicious traditional Japanese cuisine. The service is outstanding. They even made my wife a custom dish that's not on the menu when I told them she wasn't feeling well. When I went to pick up the order, the chef came out and handed me what he said was specifically for my wife. When I asked her how it was, she replied that it was delicious and that her stomach and other symptoms started feeling better. I have no idea what the ingredients were, but it was a bowl of soup made just for her after me telling them about her condition. Here's the kicker, when he handed to me. He and another gentleman standing next to him both said it was on the house. At that moment, they earned my heart as a loyal customer. The Hibachi dinners are amazing. Your dinner starts off with a clear broth soup. Your meal comes with your choice of protein: They offer chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops or a combo of two items of your choice. You also get rice and vegetables with a really good dipping sauce. Think Benihana without the chef. I've been there about 3 times since they opened and it's by all means my new favorite place. I don't eat sushi so I cannot review it, but I've heard it's very good. read more

Sushi is mid, nothing exciting about the selection. Would've have given this place at least three stars but the "chef" doesn't have a bit of professionalism. The menu is pretty descriptive so when I got a roll that was coated in spicy mayo despite that not being in the description, I questioned it. The staff offered to have it remade (as they should have) but the chef refused. No reason given. He just stood there shaking his head no like a toddler. There were maybe two tables occupied at the time so he wasn't in the middle of a rush. He just didn't feel like it. Guess if they don't care about the quality of service, they probably also don't care about the quality of their food. read more

A wonderful find in Sequim with generous portions of excellent tasting sushi. I will return soon to sample more rolls and menu choices but it is impossible to be disappointed with the pleasant service and modest prices. This will become a go-to treat and reminder of our years overseas. read more

Super fresh, absolutely delicious sushi delivered by the happiest employees ever! I showed up shortly before closing and was treated like a queen. I could hear laughter coming from the kitchen, a waiter humming a tune as he cleaned the tables from the last diners. My sushi and sashimi was as tasty as is was beautiful. The miso soup appeared home made and was equally good. A pot of tea complimented my dinner and helped revive me after a long and grueling day. A comfortable and clean dining room with an eclectic mix of art made me feel right at home. I highly recommend Songohan. read more

We've been wanting to try out this restaurant since it opened. Our neighbors recommended it. I believe they have another location in Port Angeles & opened this 2nd location about 3 months ago. With family visiting I booked for a party of 10 for 5:30 on a Saturday. When we arrived we were greeted & had an our table all set up including water for all. The menu was extensive & included both Sushi & Sashimi, Raman dishes & Bento Dinners. They even have a few Indonesian dishes. I found the prices to be reasonable considering the size of the Servings. I ordered a dish that had both sushi & sashimi + hibachi & a Panda roll. The fish was excellent! As fresh as I've ever had. Everything else was equally good. The people at our table all ordered different dishes & everyone was impressed. The service was courteous & reasonably quick considering the restaurant was full by the time we placed our orders. Highly recommended & we will return. If you like Japanese food and are looking for some good Sushi, give it a go. read more

This was far from JAPANESE food. The shrimp tempura roll had a breaded piece of shrimp not tempura. My side of tempura shrimp was also panko breaded fried shrimp served with chili sauce! It should have been tempura sauce. The hibachi steak with fried rice was so greasy we couldn't eat it. The rice was slimed with oil. The tuna nigiri was the star. The California roll was tasteless and the spicy tuna roll had some mayonnaise with Saratcha on it. Weird. I was pretty disappointed. The service was good, but the food was not. read more
