I have to say everything is so adorable!! The cotton candy melts my heart. Pikachu is my favorite cartoon character. A healing restaurant that both of you & your stomach can be happy and satisfy. People are all warm-hearted, so don't worry to come alone.

#SonInLaw's signature 'Son In Law egg' - down in one gulp!

Opening launch of Son In Law lead to a great sample taste of what's to come for this new restaurant in Collingwood. In an area of Johnston St (diagonal to The Tote) not full of 'wall to wall' restaurants (like Brunswick St), this will make for a fresh change to food in this part of town. Items tasted: Son In Law egg, Thai Fish Pattie Sliders, Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Chicken and Tofu Pad Thai, Steamed Coconut Pandan Puddings. All dishes were scrumptious and looking at menu prices, very reasonable for what the dishes are. Highlight dish: Thai Fish Pattie Sliders. The brioche bun complimented the oily texture of the Fish Pattie. The surprise hit was the crushed peanuts in the middle, that you didn't taste until the last bite; unexpected, chunky and crunchy. As it was the launch, tables weren't setup in the typical fashion, so would have to go back when it's in full flight to experience the vibe/feel. Decor is simplistic with wood, bricks and pastel colours. Outside area would seat around 20-30 comfortably and had a clear roof. Airflow would be great in summer. Great home made dishes and spin on classics, hope Collingwood enjoys!

Son in law owned by Tony and Oh Rungpradit, a husband and wife team (ex Ayatana). Son in Law served traditional Thai dishes with a twist. The name is drawn from a famous Thai street food with a unique funny back story. A mother in law will cook and serve these deep fried eggs as a clear message to be nice to her daughter because his son in law jewels are on the line. I visit Son in Law on a weeknight for an early dinner with girleatsmelbourne. The space previously occupied by Middle Eastern restaurant, Bayte. The restaurant now decorated with wooden furnitures, naked lightbulbs, lanterns, bright splashes of vibrant colours and 3 split dining space. It has a light, airy, modern and trendy vibe. We were too full to order any dessert but next time I would love to try their steamed coconut pandan pudding. Their service was friendly and attentive through out the dinner. Overall taste was a little bit more subtle than the authentic Thai cuisines but Son in Law indeed highlights the quieter part of Johnston St with a modern but casual Thai cuisine.

This place said it was open late. I arrived at 10:30 as they advertised they were open for another hour. Total waste of time.

Delicious, fresh Thai food in a contemporary setting with friendly staff. We both had the calamari…read moreentree which was delicious and shared a serve of vegie spring rolls. For mains my friend had the lamb shank Massam curry which he loved and I had a delicious seafood green curry and a serve with rice. Three entrees, 2 mains, 1 serve of rice, 2 Singha beers and a coke cost $107. I'll be back. (Oh and I peeked inside the kitchen and it was so clean!)

The layout of Sabai is bright and welcoming with the seating available on both the first and second floor of the building. Run by a husband and wife team (both trained chef's) the service at Sabai is very attentive and you can tell the produce used in all dishes is of a high quality. Now to the food, Sabai has some great lunch specials for $12 with two favourites being the house fried rice with prawns and free range eggs and the red curry beef with snake beans and steamed rice. A big highlight with the fried rice is that they use fresh (and decent sized) prawns, which is something or a rarity these days in a good fried rice. In terms of beers the selection is small, but the essential Singha beer is present and something which should be paired with any good Thai meal. For desert a big thumbs up for the coconut ice cream, which came in a very generous serving size and with a great taste and texture. Overall a great meal and one would have to say the best Thai in Richmond, can't wait to come back for dinner.

I'm not really sure about Thai restaurants…read more I've been to a couple of Thai restaurants (including one in Bangkok) but I have never really been all that impressed with them. It is not that I don't like Thailand, or the food, but rather because they don't use chopsticks. I even asked my friend who had spent some time in Thailand whether they use chopsticks to which he replied that they just use the humble fork. When I eat Asian food I like eating it with chopsticks, but then that is just my preference. This was an odd restaurant though because despite it being a Thai restaurant, the wall had a number of paintings of scenes from Greece, and one from Australia. The only reference to Thailand that I could find (with the exception of the name and the food) was a photo of the Floating Market tucked away behind the counter. The food was okay (though I forgot to spice it up) but the one dish that really caught my attention was the one that my friend bought. I can't remember its name but it was a curry with bamboo shoots in it and it reeked. I thought it was just me until a number of other objections also began to float up from the table, so I decided to hold my nose until we ended up leaving.

I absolutely love Mamanee Thai. It's not a restaurant that you go to for the scene or the decor but…read morerather the big bold delicious flavors, generous portions and true authenticity of each dish. The service is quick and friendly and since it truly is a hidden gem we've never had to wait for a table. Each dish presents itself well and there is a HUGE menu that should be able to suit anyone's preference. But be warned, even their medium spiced dishes are quite full on and may be too much for anyone not ready and/or willing. One of the other stars of this restaurant are the two sweet older women preparing all of the food in the front of the house. They have thoughtfully created and prepared each dish and it comes across in the satisfying flavor. You can't go wrong with any dish here.
