Somisomi is yummy yummy. We stopped by for dessert over the weekend and it hit the spot. It's not too sweet so it's perfect. Service was friendly and quick. There are oddly shaped benches inside that I wish they designed it differently. I swear every kid tries to slide down the bench. They tried to block off one side with decorations but they need to block the other side too. They're waiting for an accident to happen! Anyway, I got the chocolate and milk swirl. We ordered the Cookies and Cream soft serve in a cup ($4.50) with crushed toppings and macarons, along with an order of two Taiyaki's ($4.95), both filled with nutella. I've visited few Somisomi locations before. The consistency of the soft serve is very smooth, but the highlight of the menu for me is the nutella filled Taiyaki. It was fresh & hot and it definitely balances the cold soft serve. I could also eat the Taiyaki on it's own. My main critique is that the soft serve flavor is very subtle and a bit too mild for my taste. I could barely taste any Cookies and Cream flavor beyond the toppings that were added. Flavors are posted on Instagram and I was excited to see a pistachio soft serve with a take on a dubai chocolate filling inside the taiyaki so I ordered this combo (note this special filling is an additional $1.75). I also added biscoff crumbs and while I only live 10 mins away, the soft serve does melt quite quickly in the short drive despite the cooler weather we had that day. I was excited for the pistachio soft serve, but it was quite underwhelming and honestly, I almost wondered if they had accidentally given me milk since it was quite beige in appearance and if it was pistachio, it was very, very subtle. I wished they had combined the pistachio and matcha soft serve, but not bad. Visited Somi Somi after dinner with my grandma and sister for a quick dessert, and it was a nice little treat. We ordered the banana and matcha soft serve, and as always, Somi Somi's soft serve was incredibly creamy -- this visit was no exception. They weren't busy at all, so we walked right in and got served immediately. The only downside was that our taiyaki fish bread wasn't warm, likely because there weren't many customers and they weren't making them as frequently. Coming from LA, Somi Somi was one of my go-to spots, so I was so excited to find one here in AZ! The quality and flavors are just as amazing as I remember. Their soft serve is super creamy, rich, and perfectly sweet honestly some of the best ice cream anywhere. But the real star for me is the stuffed taiyaki. I always get mine filled with Nutella, and it's absolute heaven: warm, soft, and gooey on the inside, with the perfect little crisp on the outside. I love this type of dessert place - soft serve/taitaki. And I love that Somi Somi has a rotating seasonal flavor - I've tried corn and banana pudding. I got the banana pudding mixed with matcha. I was so excited for banana pudding, but it tasted like creamy artificial banana. And in the swirl, the banana pudding flavor was overpowered by the matcha. The matcha flavor itself was not particularly very matcha-y either. I had a similar experience when I got the corn/matcha swirl too unfortunately. The seating is also not the best. A delicious little dessert spot! Had to remove a star for the ambiance- there was no indoor seating and for some reason, we were not allowed to sit on the benches while we waited. However, the food was delicious! I ordered an upside-down Ah-boong (filled fish pastry and soft serve) to share.We chose the nutella filling with the dalgona flavored soft serve, and topped with biscoff crumbles and coconut flakes. We also ordered 5 taiyaki to go- Matcha, Black Sesame, Red Bean, Nutella, and Oreo. The soft serve was delicious- it had a subtle, delicate, caramelized sugar flavor that was accented beautifully by the toppings we chose. The crispy filled shell goes together amazingly with the soft serve- my only wish was that the dalgona flavor could have been slightly stronger in the soft serve! The Taiyakis were also delicious- my favorite was the Nutella and the Matcha Custard. The crispy outer shell combined with the mochi-like inside and the warm filling was heavenly! The Black Sesame could have been a bit sweeter, but I appreciate that they have sweet and less sweet options for palates of all kinds. I always walk by this place since we visit this plaza often but had not made it in. I finally decided to give them a try and wow, was I blown away. The workers were friendly and greeted us as we walked in. They were out of the "fish bowl" but we were told we could get our ice cream in a cup. Ordering is easy, there are four items to choose from and then a selection of options from there, but very user friendly. The cookies and cream soft serve was delicious but I was not a fan of the matcha. Thats not a fault of somisomi, I just wasn't a fan. I always love to get Somisomi wherever I go and I was pleasantly suprised to find one in Chandler when I came for work! My only comments (if this makes it back to a higher up haha): the black sesame ice cream could use a LITTLE more black sesame and the matcha custard is too sweet and concentrated in my opinion haha. My go-to order is the cookies & cream soft serve in an AhBoong (the adorable fish-shaped cone) with a Nutella filling (so good!) I usually get it served upside down, which somehow makes it even better. Recently tried their seasonal peach flavor and it was a pleasant surprise, light, refreshing, and perfect for a AZ HOT day. I love that they rotate flavors regularly, so there's always something new to try without getting bored. The shop itself is small but clean and well-kept. Its a habit for me to stop by Somisomi for dessert after eating a bunch of Korean BBQ or coming from a nearby restaurant, and their soft serve and desserts have always been consistent and yummy! Since soft serve is pretty easy to make, service is fast regardless if they are crammed or not, which is great on the staff for being on top of everything. My favorite order is the ahboong with soft serve - and you can get it upside down (served in a cup for less mess) or you can have it regular in which the fish cone is right side up. I recommend to get the upside down especially in this Arizona heat, as it will get messy really fast if you are not a fast eater. Regarding flavors, they usually have 5 flavors that are the same (Milk, Cookies and Cream, Ube, Matcha, and Black Sesame), and one rotating flavor. Along with that, they have 3 flavors that are combinations of whatever is in the soft serve machine, like milk + matcha, ube + black sesame, etc. Then every week (?, might be wrong on the rotation here) they change the combos. I'm always down to try something new, and all of the flavors I've had so far (since going for the past-almost-two-years-ish) have been great! As I mentioned before, staff has always been nice and on top of things - especially Jenny. She has helped me out a couple of times and has always been friendly and giving recommendations that are always spot-on when I try them. Their soft serve flavor options might be small, but what they do have to offer accommodates most of everyone's taste buds. Having flavors range between not too sweet to very sweet with hints of tartness in some flavors. What we really like about this place is that they have seasonal flavors that are always changing, so there's always something a little different to try. Some of our favorites in general so far have been milk, strawberry, guava, and caramel. One of our go to items include the custard taiyaki! The interior is nice and bright with lots of natural light filtering in, but at the same time is slightly lacking in décor, and they don't offer much for seating options. There's limited seating. I ordered the 5 for $8.70. For my fillings, I chose Nutella, custard, taro, oreo, and cheddar. The taiyakis were made to order, and you can watch the staff make them. The treats were ready in under ten minutes! The taiyakis were soft and a little chewy. Out of the five fillings, the oreo was my favorite. The cheddar was surprisingly good. I've never had cheese in a waffle before and I enjoyed it! The taro was my least favorite. The flavor was lacking. I will definitely be back for more taiyaki and to try the ice cream! read more

Fish-shaped pastries (taiyaki, bungeo-ppang) were always a childhood favorite of mine. So I'm glad that we have a Somisomi to share the joy! I went with friends at a more calm hour so there was no wait. The inside of the store including the bathroom was very clean. I also thought it was a nice touch that they had homemade seasonal themed decor throughout the shop. We all got the warm taiyaki to try. At the time, they had a limited hotteok flavor, which made me really happy. Hotteok is another childhood Korean street food that my grandma and I love, so it's nice to see it out in the wild here in America. I went with the 2 piece mix and match combo with the limited hotteok flavor and black sesame. The pastry shell was cooked well and had those little crispy edges that I love. Personally, I felt the fillings were a bit too sweet, but that's my own struggle. I felt the limited hotteok flavor was an average representation of the classic filling flavor (caramely sugar, cinnamon, nuts), but my friend actually did not enjoy it so much. She felt it was below average in terms of taste. This was her first time trying hotteok filling. Stopped in Friday evening after Kickin Crab and it was pretty busy in here! They now take orders through the touch screen rather than having someone take it for us. Then they'll call your order number for you to come up and choose your toppings. I like that they added more seating in here but the little tables were dirty and needed cleaning. This time, I got matcha ube swirl in a cup topped with oreo crumbs and matcha powder. Can never go wrong with that! The little macaron didn't taste that great though. My friend got the same thing as me but with different toppings and my other friend got the filled fish cones. They both liked their choices. I went to other somi somi locations in other states but this location has to be the worst. The desser itself looks identical as other places but the ice cream lacks flavor and the taiyakis were soggy. There was no crunch to it whatsoever. Not too sure if I just went in on a bad day but it was truly a disappointment. The service was a bit slow, we asked (I think the manager) who happened to be by us why it taste different and he said, not every location follows the same procedure. What does that mean? As we were waiting for the order I watched the girl Mishelle(spell check) literally making my order, with her mask down, coughing all over the machine, coughing all over her hand and then literally hurry and grab a glove not to put on weirdly but to carry in the same hand she coughed all over. I have cancer and severely compromised immune system. My health is my top priority and not only is this completely foul and distrusting but also completely unacceptable. If you never been to SomiSomi, you pick your style: Ahboong, Upside Down Ahboong or just soft serve in a cup. Then you pick your flavor and you can also pick a filling for the Ahboong (Nutella, Custard, Taro or Red Bean) Each ice cream also comes with a choice of a strawberry or macaron and unlimited toppings. We ordered an Upside Down Ahboong with Nutella filling and Cookies & Cream flavor andit was delicious. They also sell taiyaki's which are my personal favorite! I usually love custard filling, but the taro one is better as the custard one wasn't as sweet as I'd expect it to be. All in all, super happy they have a location in AZ now!
