And who says there aren't any beautiful beaches in the Keys?! This beach is pure natural paradise! Came here with the bestie, Beatriz L., whose been talking and wanting to go to this beach forever! We finally planned a day of adventure and relaxation. The drive itself is beautiful, and peaceful. Time passes by quickly even though its location is in Marathon. We arrived at a great time. People were here out with their families and doggies( beach is dog friendly) enjoying the park they had for the little ones while others layed out enjoying the sun. Others were playing volleyball or watched in amazement of a manatee that was so close to shore. We were just taking in the beauty of the beach. We chose a great spot and although this beach isnt super huge, it is more than spacious enough. I felt like no matter how packed it got throughout the day there was still enough space for all to enjoy no matter the activity. There are no lifeguards here so everyone is on their own. There are grills by the huts that I'm sure are either rentable or come on first come first serve basis. There are trash cans and even recyclable bins to keep the beach clean. The bathrooms are a good size and well kept. There are palm trees and other shading trees for those who dont want to catch to much sun. You can bring your umbrellas or canopy tent things and you can bring whatever beverages you choose to sip on, just make sure to pick up after yourselves and place all trash in their respectable bins. This beach is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful definite naps were in order! I honeslty would prefer to come out here more then the old school south beach(nothing against south beach though ) just due to how relaxing and laid back the vibe was. We can't wait to come back for some more relaxation and our refreshing bellinis!! Enjoy! read more

Sombrero Beach is like a little slice of paradise with a dash of reality. The white sandy beach is gorgeous, and the water is so clear and calm it feels like nature's infinity pool--perfect for swimming, especially if you're traveling with kids or just really bad at swimming (no judgment from me!). There are picnic tables and shady spots, so you can snack like a pro while pretending to care about sunscreen reapplication. Bonus points for being pet-friendly so your dog can also live their best beach life. It's a quick 5-minute drive from US-1, and parking is free. The beach can get crowded, especially during peak season, so prepare to make new friends whether you want to or not. Seaweed sometimes crashes the party, but the city works hard to keep it under control. Still, you might find yourself in a seaweed vs. sandcastle showdown. The restrooms (not super clean) and showers are close to the parking lot, so that's convenient. read more

If you're looking to hang out on the beach and really enjoy the sun, and the ocean sombrero beach is the ticket. We don't have a lot of beaches in the keys, most of the islands are coral and people come down, expecting to see long beach lines. That's just not the case so when you have that opportunity sombrero beach is really very nice. They have nice facilities, outdoor showers and the water is just great. If you're looking for a place to put your kayak in you can park, unload take your kayak down to the right of the beach and go back into the mangroves which is really nice. read more

Nice beach at the end of a cul de sac. Go all the way to the end of the cul de sac for a more private beach experience. A lot of people come in the gate and plop down immediately. The water was refreshing, there is some seaweed on the beach this week and grass in the water. But we enjoyed our time there. Kept driving to Bahia Honda and that was a better option for me! read more

It costs money to park now . $5.00 per hour for the first 2 hours then $2.00 after. It was $12.00 for 3 hours . Not worth it anymore.

This is a public beach with no parking meters or entrance fees. The hours are usually dawn to dusk all week. The width of the beach is thin, never too crowded so you'll find a spot. Public shade is in short supply. Public restrooms are usually well kept. There is a narrow grass strip for volleyball and cooking grills, reserve them at Marathon Parks & Rec at least a month out. Bring rubber bottom swim shoes. The coral rock comes onto the beach in places and is scattered in the shallow waters. It's easy for little ones to cut their feet. Snorkeling isn't good, visibility is limited with all the sea grass. I did see sting rays, plenty of crabs, and small fish. No fishing sign is posted and I was disappointed to see people fishing. That's why I'm bringing this to 3 stars instead of four. There's nothing out here in this flat water to fish but people were swimming past and they were still casting. I spoke to the three and they left. Not because of anything I said but a Sheriff Marine Unit approached from the water and told them to leave. read more

Me and my husband rob went there today and had a blast at the beach, the water was warm and very clear and there was white sand! But the parking was a problem as a old couple we couldn't understand any of it, first it made us scan a qr code but the cell service was bad and it said we already had an account, then we saw a parking stand that took forever to load uah I hate waiting!!!! read more

I have been looking for a beach in the Keys without all the seaweed and a few amenities like a bathroom, a small grill and of course parking. It looks like I found that place!! I'm so excited they only negative for me is the drive which is 2 hours away but, it was all worth it! This place is quiet and family oriented and good in size (pets are allowed.) My advice is to come early if you are planning on grilling. They only have a handful of grills and a few shelters with tables. They also have a publix right around the corner if you feel to by the meat fresh instead of packing. I have noticed that they release alot of turtles in this part of the beach that have been rescued from a nearby sanctuary. The sunsets here are priceless what a gem! read more

Free public beach. Lots of seaweed/kelp. Can be cleaner. People walk their dogs on the beach. One defecated right next to the water

Rally nice beautiful beach. We discovered it in our last trip to marathon and went once. This time we rented a house one house over from the beach so we would be close. We loved walking the beach everyday and spending some time in the water and lounging on the beach. Even in the Christmas high season the beach was not over crowded. The sand is very white and the water as blue as can be. It's nice and shallow for a long way into the water. People were playing ball, swimming, sunning and playing with their dogs. As so few beaches allow dogs these days it was really fun to watch the pups swim and have a blast in the water. The view is great too. I highly recommend spending time here if you are in marathon. read more

I love this beach I am impressed first off want to say happy that it's back open and then 1. They have 2 nearby restrooms you can use w water fountains 2. They have outdoor water fountains if you need to wash your feet off 3. The park is very nice and with a covered rooftop from the sun 4. There are a lot of places to walk around and the pier is awesome 5. They have available parking spots the view of the ocean is terrific and not one bad experience here everyone I ran into was nice and the list goes on read more

I can't get over how perfect this beach is. It's pretty small but not super touristy or very crowded. We got there around 8:30am and were the only ones there for a while. We've gone back to watch the sunset a couple times too. They have a ton of free parking, restrooms, etc. I can't wait to go back! read more

This is by far one of the nicest beach I've been to it's very accommodating for dogs which is rare to find not only in Munro County but Dade County and Broward county. It's a kid friendly environment obviously they provide a play ground area and it's quite big you'll find everything from your adult swings to toddler swings merry-go-round and much more and of course a pretty nice slide I must say so myself They also give you a medium size birthday/picnic area I don't foresee any type of reservations needed I would say it's first come first serve The atmosphere that you get is very calm very pleasant it has a mixture of people but let's face it this is what the keys is about tourist & locals you can't expect less. the people that we encountered were very friendly both local and tourist locals were always willing to help and suggest other areas to go to. And guys if you are looking for a place to watch the sunset on a date this is the place! So bring a blanket to throw on the sand a nice plastic cup and a fine wine maybe a small picnic nipples of cheeses, just remember no glasses are allowed! Now snuggle up with your love one as you watch the sunset and take pictures either mental or digital it's all going to be the same experience and you'll have an everlasting memory. But before I go home I want to mention the waters were clean and there were no rocks or seashells on the ocean to hurt your foot as you inter the water it was clear, of course mother nature plays her own game whenever she wants don't expect the beach to be clean and clear when there's bad weather otherwise. Now as for the groundskeeping always clean very pleasant to be around. read more

This beach was clean. It looked pretty nice, from afar. When we walked into the beach it was full of sea grass on the sand, by the water. When we got into the water, we sank in the sand. The water was pretty stagnant and had a lot of algae floating. The biggest problem I have with the beaches in the Keys is......there are NO waves. Am I the only one who doesn't know this? Being a Texan, I guess I shouldn't know, but I feel like when we ask any local where the best beach is, they should let us know there are no waves. I had my 10 year old daughter with me. She was very disappointed. As far as being clean and nice. It is a very nice beach. But, there are NO WAVES!! We have more waves at our lakes in Texas, than there are at all beaches in the Florida Keys. Go up to Palm Beach (3 hours north of the Keys) for waves. read more

Very nice beach. They are still recovering from the hurricane on the upper end, but the middle, toward the other end is great. When you get to the very end where you can park, there is a traffic circle, and right past that circle is a very small beach area, but the water is much calmer there. It's slightly protected from the Easterly winds. Nice restrooms, with outdoor showers. Covered picnic tables also. While sitting on the main beach area, you can see Sombrero light house (off to the right) in the distance. read more

Cool beach on the Atlantic side of the lower Keys. We spent a couple of hours here just exploring. Had lunch and a couple of beers. The entrance area, parking and facilities here are spectacular. Brand new and construction was still going on. Beach was beautiful and there were only a few other people on the beach. The only issue on this day was the sargassum/ seaweed in the water. Hey....nothing you can do about this natural occurrence, just made getting into the water a little unpleasant. Overall we enjoyed our time here and will return. read more

Excellent public beach in Marathon. This beach has a little less sea weed than some of the other beaches in the Keys. For those who don't know ... the Keys offer beautiful looking beaches and scenery but the "in the water experience" is never that great. There is always lots of seaweed. For sandy beaches in and out of the water head to South Beach, FLL, or the Gulf Coast. Anyway, this beach is on the smaller side but good for singles, couples or families. It offers a nice park in front of the beach for hanging around and picnicking. I have been here multiple times. I will be back multiple times. It is often a nice pit stop when driving back to South FL from the lower Keys. An A grade, and thank you to the town of Marathon. read more

A little windy in January but the sun and 75 degrees feels amazing ! There are restrooms on the beach. and a Walgreens right up the road, stock up on waters and snacks before you come. I would say this is the best beach in the keys! It's a nice strip of beach, much larger than any have seen and you don't have to pay. The water is blue and it's kept clean. Located in Modern Florida Keys. ! when we came to the keys no one told us that " natural" beaches don't exist here .... it's just platforms with sand on it , very disappointing. BUT this beach is just like traditional ones that we are used to! Don't let the wind scare you, if it's sunny it feels amazing read more
