Quiet Beach, No Waves Well, darn it, I forgot to bring my bathing suit and left it at our place in Orlando. We stayed for two nights at The Keys. We wanted to get a view of the new bridge from below and turned into this small beach park south of the Seven Mile Bridge. It wasn't crowded but had enough visitors to fill the small parking lot. We got lucky and found an open spot. The beach is small and the water is shallow and warm. Quiet beach, with very little to no waves. We saw folks explore far out walking on the sandbar walkways through the ocean grass, water just got up to their waist, it's that shallow... saw a couple of teens just laying on the shoreline. The view is very scenic. The beach has picnic tables and bathrooms are porta potties. located in Big Pine Key. Admission is free! Sweet! Review #2806

A small little park near the bridge. It's cute not much to do, just relax. It has a free parking are. It is not very larger. The park has a bathroom. It is a portable. The park does not have a lifeguard on duty. It has a big growth of seaweed and big beautiful trees. The water is crystal clear and shallow. It's the kinda place you want to stay a while. A peaceful and quiet place. I like this park. I enjoyed the beach and taking pictures if those beautiful large trees. The park is a hidden gem to me.

This place used to be a hidden gem of a beach. Shallow waters make it possible to sit, relax and enjoy the sun. They added new tiki coverage and now it's super busy. Get there early and enjoy this wonderful and amazing place. Bring some food. Porta potties available. It would be nice to get real bathrooms. It's like a sauna in there when you're taking care of business.

Veterans Memorial Park is a nice small beach. It is located right off the highway, at the end of the Seven Mile Bridge. There is no entrance fee, so it is one of the few free fun things to do in the Keys. It is a perfect place for a picnic or for a swim. The water is pretty shallow. A lot of the amenities are gone because of Hurricane Irma. But it is still worth visiting. It is calm and quiet. 4 stars.

Good free fun. It's a small park with beautiful ocean views. It's popular with the boondocker/caravan set, who you'll often see making good use of the picnic tables cooking up whatever fare. Oh, the incredible foodie smells around breakfast here! Some of the facilities were damaged in Irma and are off limits including the bathrooms but at least they've brought in some portable toilets.

Veterans Memorial Park is located on Little Duck Key, MM 40, just south of the 7 Mile Bridge and before Bahia Honda State Park. The park was originally called Duck Key County Park. There are a few picnic tables but the restrooms are closed and replaced with port a potties. The park suffered severe damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017 which destroyed the pavilions. While the park is now open again it is a shell of what it once was. The main attraction to come here is the long narrow beach for swimming. On the evening I visited there was a lot of bird life including pelicans and egrets. Leashed dogs are welcome.

Beach with open "lanes" in sea grass where you can walk out very far in shallow water

Love this place! We make an annual trek out to the keys and we've never not stopped at this little gem. Free parking, sandy beach - what more could you want.. originally found this beach by accident when the parking lot at Bahia Honda was full.

It's an underrated beach spot! It is a nice, small, and quiet spot with lots of picnic tables and cabanas. There are lots of good swimming areas with soft sand and wildlife as well! It is a great snorkeling spot!

Covered picnic areas (this is one of four or five)

Unpretentious little park on little duck key (I believe) right before you come to ohio key, if headed in the direction of key west. It's FREE, there were lots of people walking dogs, so bring your pooch, wheelchair accessible public restrooms stocked with toilet paper and hand soap (for anyone who has ever been to a state park, you know THAT's a big deal), and there was a guy selling ice cold coconut water (think: straw in coconut, sooo worth it) from a green pick up truck - $3 for 1 or $2.50 for 2. That last detail was the reason we stopped. If you're looking for a small quiet place to sunbathe or swim and don't mind dogs, small children, or older people eating lunch, then this is the place. If you're looking for a younger crowd, stay at South Beach.

Bahia Honda means "Deep Bay" and refers to the deep bays of Bahia Honda Key. It is pronounced Bah -EE-ah Own da. It is 30 feet deep which makes it the deepest natural harbors in the Keys. It was established in 1961and is known for its history as part of Henry Flagler's "Overseas Railroad" and is now known as the Overseas Highway. In 1935 there was a huge hurricane that destroyed the railroad. What makes this park so unique is that it is encompasses an offshore island and it sits between Ohio Key and Spanish Harbor Key close to the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge. The park has 524 acres of lush beauty. It is open everyday of the year from 8am - sundown and the fee is $8 per vehicle. Clean restrooms and outdoor showers available. There is so many things to do such as snorkeling, swimming in the gin clear crystal waters, hiking out to the Old Bahia Bridge, birding, camping, boat rentals, a concession stand, rent a cabin, kayak, fishing or visit the nature center. We found parking easily and made our way out on the trail to the Old Bridge. The views from up here are panoramic. After viewing the bridge and the views, we really could not resist taking a dip at one of the beaches. The water was still warm enough to swim in November and it felt fantastic. What I love most about the state park beaches along the Keys are all the marine life you can view while swimming or just walking on the beach. No place like it! If I could give this park 10 stars I would, it is that incredible. Cannot wait to come back again.

Plenty of parking. Beaches are beautiful and the water refreshingly cold. Marine life can also be seen, but please avoid touching or catching the sea creatures; and parents, tell your kids/teens to respect the wildlife.

This property exists not for visitor entertainment and indulgence but to protect and preserve wildlife . Sorry for the rant - a lot of people get upset that they don't have a Disney world experience and maybe that's because they don't truly understand and /or respect the purpose of this refuge. The refuge is located in the Lower Florida Keys (Big Pine), a hundred mile stretch of islands that extends south and west from south Florida. Habitats in the refuge consist of pine rockland forests, tropical hardwood hammocks, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh wetlands, and mangrove forests. National Key Deer Refuge is home to more than 20 endangered and threatened plant and animal species, including the well known Key Deer. Please note there are no big signs that indicate the area is a refuge . There is residential neighborhoods and public sector businesses throughout so it's not like a sectioned off park . The wildlife are not in cages on display . They are in their natural habitats within the refuge and you may not get to see them. There is the Blue Hole you can visit and May spot something but please don't harass the wildlife or enter people's yards because you see deer grazing . This is the only refuge in the keys that is accessible by car while being open to the public so please respect the wildlife and the people who live here . The visitor center is a great place to start to learn more about the refuge and the Key deer. If you have a Blue Goose national wildlife refuge passport you can get it stamped here for all the Key refuges. They have very clean restrooms , small gift shop , informative displays , maps and staff on hand to answer questions. Manage your expectations and you will enjoy this area !

Today was the perfect day to take a walk to a little island the locals call Conch Island. You can get there easily by the campsite we are staying at (Sunshine Key RV Resort) The walk itself is full of sea life but if you come at low tide there are creatures in the tide pools. Today we went a little later but we're still able to find some fun things! Part of this whole simple life that I enjoy is the exploring, without an agenda. Just taking off and finding cool things along the way. The kids will fight at an amusement park or staying home, or in most situations because they are "bored". But the second we are outside and exploring, everyone immediately changes their tune and we spend hours just doing "nothing". I hope these are the memories they will take with them.
