Both the beach and campgrounds reopened in 2022. This beach is also a long stretch of sand and is located just past Loggerhead Beach. I have heard great things, and in photos, it was great, but when we reached, there were lots of seagrass on the shore, like really a lot, and it was disappointing to see, so we turned back to Loggerhead Beach. Quiet Beach, No Waves…read more Well, darn it, I forgot to bring my bathing suit and left it at our place in Orlando. We stayed for two nights at The Keys. We wanted to get a view of the new bridge from below and turned into this small beach park south of the Seven Mile Bridge. It wasn't crowded but had enough visitors to fill the small parking lot. We got lucky and found an open spot. The beach is small and the water is shallow and warm. Quiet beach, with very little to no waves. We saw folks explore far out walking on the sandbar walkways through the ocean grass, water just got up to their waist, it's that shallow... saw a couple of teens just laying on the shoreline. We didn't have a reservation. When we got there, nobody was at the check-in desk, but there was a phone to call. The gal was super friendly, took our information over the phone (she was running an errand) and told us which room was available and the key was inside. We even got a discount for being a walk-in customer! I think it was $89 for the night. The room was very clean, spacious and had a large "mini-fridge," a microwave, coffee pot and cranked a/c. There were even filled ice cube trays in the freezer. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. They looked like they would be stiff, but it was great! The tide was down so there was a bit of a stench from the rotting sea grass, but that's nothing the hotel can do anything about. The water was pretty brown... I'm sure it's fine, but I wouldn't swim in it. Not to worry though because there is a pool! We didn't go in the pool, but it looked nice and additional towels are available for it. They had a large hammock in excellent condition hanging between two palm trees. We spent some time hanging out there and enjoying the cool breeze. The rooms have chairs outside and there is a bar area (they don't serve anything, but you can hang out there) with a view of the water.

It's pretty rustic, it's not a resort and there's no bellhop or anyone to wait on you hand and foot. It's on island time. I don't think I ever saw the people who run it, but when we booked it over the phone she was pretty nice. There's nice shaded picnic tables in the back for a BBQ, a really nice pool, and hammocks to relax in. It's atlantic side so the wind blows up the seaweed and grass, so on lowtide it does stink a little but nothing too terrible, but during high tide it's beautiful. The water is warm too on low tide, we walked out to the docks and waded in the water and saw lots of horseshoe crabs. We didn't have any maintenence problems or anything, I can see what other reviewers mean where the owners may have been difficult to get a hold of since we never saw them around-but we liked the privacy. The whole inn probably has maybe 10 rooms, so theres not a lot of traffic and we almost always had the pools and hammocks to ourself-simply peace and quiet.

Bring: water, bug spray, and maybe a hat. There are bathrooms past the house on the right with a ramp. COST: $2.50 and $2.00 for access and tour. HOW TO GET HERE: We moored on the other side of the island and took the dinghy to the dock. Their Website has information for transportation to the island. We had a private tour of the island it the history is just unreal. The vegetation is massive and I had no idea how large this key actually measured. Because you can't swim or fish 100' from the dock or mangroves, it acts as a nursery for a ton of fish. I saw barracuda, sheep's head, yellow fin, ciro.

Lignumvitae Botanical state park is one of the last remaining natural keys. This park has a strict…read morepolicy on visitation and only offers restricted access due to its natural preservation efforts. Like others, I recommend to come in the winter months, due to the amount of mosquitos. This island is not sprayed like the residential keys, due to preservation, so you can imagine the number of hungry mosquitos. We came over in late October and it was still pretty buggy. There's a neat old house on the island and the ranger will give you the history of the house and the residents who maintained it. There is a long hiking trail but we only made it about 20 minutes in before turning around due to the bugs. And I do have a fairy high threshold for bugs. We did get to see some Golden Orb Weaver spiders, so that was totally worth the trip. It was cool to get the history of the Key. I'm looking forward to come back hike the entire trail in the winter!

We went out on the dock they have and you can tell they maintain it well or it must be real new, great views. We watched as a few people we snorkeling in the shallows off the quaint beach area they had there. Saw some of the fish you see at petco in the saltwater section in the water around so of the rocks. Just before sunset people came out from all over the neighborhood to watch the sunset. Great place to sit on a bench and have your moment of zen. Hidden gem.

There is a small beach where some people were wading and looking at shells. People start showing up right before the sunset and enjoy it from the benches or the dock. The dock is long enough for several groups to spread out on and see the sunset and take photos. We even saw a huge stingray right below us on the dock.

We did the "diy" tent, they hand you one and you set it up. They have propane grills and provide bbq materials and you cook and clean yourself.
