Best beach in the Keys hands down. Beautiful scenery, clear water and large and clean sand. Got to get there early because it's not a we'll kept secret but once you have a spot you in for a treat. Water is clear and not cold, you can enjoy a great beach day. The only reason no to be 5 stars is the lack of Bar/restaurant at walking distance..
Easily one of the best beaches in the FL Keys... wide, white sand beach, plenty of facilities (bathrooms, showers), recreation areas like volleyball and BBQs. Fenced parking area provides easy access to beach. Lots of beautiful, green tropical space! Water is very nice, calm, and beautiful. Very worth a stop to enjoy when you're passing through Marathon Key! Highly recommend!
Saw jelly fish in August on the shore and couldn't believe that this type of jelly fish doesn't sting. Water was too hot of course but this was worth the stop over.
Probably the best beach we visited while in the Florida Keys. The keys doesn't have many sandy stretches of beach to begin with so this was a nice gem to find on the southern tip of Marathon. The beach is not huge but enough to stretch your legs and walk up and down, plenty of room for everyone to still spread out. Lots of nice, white sand and plenty of shells and coral to pick through. When you are done with getting sandy, the beach offers a nice playground for the kids and plenty of shelter to have a picnic or sit to people watch. Just up the road is a Publix and strip mall with various stores, so you can just buy anything you need for the beach without having to stuff your car full from your hotel/resort. Buy a Publix sub and some chips and you are set for the afternoon. Bathrooms onsite were clean and well-stocked. Parking is pay by the hour and they are hawkish at checking times so don't skip on paying. The app makes it very easy to do. If we come back to the keys, we will make sure to centralize ourselves to this beach since it was one of the best we visited while touring the Florida Keys.
A beautiful little beach in the Florida Keys, having traveled to the Keys for many years and being a resident of Florida I definitely understand that there are really beautiful beaches across the state - this beach may not rate in the top 10 across the state but very well could be one of the best in the Keys. Lots of sun and shade here and wonderful amenities including close proximity parking to the beach, clean restrooms, shelters with picnic tables and charcoal grills, a playground for the little ones and plenty of sand, clear water and palm trees filled with coconuts, yea I admit the sea grass can be annoying but that's part of the Keys just as the coral is but none of this is a deal breaker for me. If you visit any of the State Parks here you'll notice they don't manage or clean up the sea grass it's considered an essential part of the ecological health of the Keys. I noticed that on the day I visited this beach it was not an issue to the point that it could ruin my experience, it's late November it's sunny and 77 degrees - I don't remember ever having a bad day at any beach so I'm not going to complain about this one, I feel I'm pretty lucky to be here...
The Keys may not have fantastic beaches but we enjoyed our time at this one. There isn't a ton of beach area but the sand was nice enough. The waves and current were pretty rough during our visit but the water was warm-ish. There was also very little trash on the sand. Parking is NOT free. I think we paid $10 for two hours--you pay at a little pay machine. The price is a little steep but it is what it is. Personally, I didn't see any warning signs about jellyfish but I guess there are such signs so watch yourself out there. No lifeguards here so watch your kiddos in the water. I would gladly return.
Beautiful, calm beach! Sand is clean and white. Water is gorgeous blue. Parking is $5 per hour. New(ish) playground which is good for kids ages 8 and under. There is a nice walking path and indoor restrooms on the property. Dogs are welcome on a lease. They have dog poop bags available. They also have several pavilions that would make a great place to eat lunch and relax.
Favorite beach in the Keys. Not sure but I think it used to be free parking but paid $10 for 2 hours today. Still worth it. Beautiful beach. Nice playground for the kids. Wish there were a concession stand for some snacks. My advice, if you're coming - bring anything you want to drink or eat. We do a Publix run lol
Very well kept area with clean facilities and various activities like volleyball. Not too crowded at this time of year. The water is clear with some rocks and grass, but it is a nice area to swim.
Beach tucked away off the beaten path... This is a nice beach on the Keys. We stopped here at this beach in Marathon Key to watch the sunset. Lots of people... so different from Anne's Beach where we first made a stop. Sombrero Beach is mangrove-free!! BUT there are warning signs to watch out for jellyfish! I guess the Portuguese man o' war are rampant here. Yikes! With its soft sand on this long stretch of beach and warm turquoise waters, it is one of the best-kept beach secrets in the Florida Keys. It was a lucky find. I did not go on the water but started collecting sea shells. The shells were cute and tiny then I realized I didn't have anywhere to keep or hold them so I let them go in the water. Parking can be challenging since this is one of the prettier beaches before heading to Key West. Well maintained park with bathrooms and showers available. This is Wanda Switlik and it's AKA Sombrero Beach. When using a navigation device I advise typing this park's name. If not, you are taken to the other side which is like a marina. . . . This is a public park/beach. It's not so big but it's pet friendly and family-friendly. Inside the park you have showers, bathroom, picnic areas, grass a covered kids playground, and the beach. . . . The Park is very clean and nice. It had plenty of parking areas around.

Florida Keys has many beaches but, believe it or not, there are not a lot of nice beaches in the Conch Republic. Most Florida Keys beaches are rocky or have no sand--with the warm ocean or gulf water lapping amongst the mangrove roots. Sombrero Beach in Marathon is a classic beach with soft and clean beach sand, the deepest beach water in the Florida Keys, and excellent amenities. playground right next to the beach entrance means that everyone can be happy. Sun cover over the fun playground area so that the equipment doesn't get too hot. 1. Plenty of parking options right on the roadside. It now costs $5 per hour for the first two hours and $2 per hour after the first two hours. Be careful to not park in restricted areas--which are well marked. 2. Sombrero beach is a nice area to relax and spend the day. They have plenty of parking but you will have to pay. There is a fenced grassy area before the beach where you can picnic and barbecue. There are also restrooms and a children's playground. The beach itself is nice, but the shoreline is very thin (especially at high tide) and packed with people, so there's not a lot of space to spread out and enjoy yourself. If you don't mind the crowds, the water is warm and the facilities are nice, just don't expect a quiet, peaceful experience and you won't be disappointed. read more

Beautiful beach with shallow water, perfect for children and those looking to soak up the sun! After driving for hours down the Keys, we finally came across a beach that did not smell and was not covered in mud! Sombrero Beach was fantastic - attached to a beautiful little park with playgrounds for children, a sand volleyball court, bathrooms, outdoor showers/rinse off stations, and a small dock for fishing/boating. The beach and swimming area was just as good! The sand was soft and gave plenty of room to set up a few chairs and an umbrella. The busier part of the beach is the south end, but "busy" wasn't as crowded as you'd expect! The water was very clear, warm and shallow. Perfect for children, dogs, to run around in without fear of going too deep. We spotted a few people snorkeling farther out, looking at various fish and creatures out in the sea grass. Highly recommend visiting! Free surface parking, limited. read more
We did not spend much time here since we just stopped to check it out but it was apparent that this is one of the better beaches in the Keys. The Keys are not known for their wide sandy beaches so Sombrero is a great find. There are nice bathrooms and other amenities. The parking is free so come early to snag a spot! No admission either. read more

This beach is definitely not for visitors. The charge $10 per per 2 hours. If you pass the ticket limit the citation is $90 . There's nothing else here just beach and kids playground. There's no lifeguard. I pass a couple of minutes in the parking and I got a citation of $90 . Thank you read more

Free Florida fun. What a Super nice beach so far as Keys beaches go. There's plenty of parking and a really nice shady grassy area between the dunes and parking. Clean bathrooms, covered kids play area, sandy volley ball courts and a short pier. read more

One of the better beaches in the Florida Keys. It's a little sandier and less rocky than the rest. The water is warm, clear, and lovely. It's free! There are plenty of parking spots. It has some nice amenities: clean restrooms, outdoor showers, covered picnic tables with grills, playground, volleyball court, and a fishing and observation pier. It's also one of the few dog-friendly beaches down here. It's not a large beach; however, you will always find a spot regardless if it is crowded. 5 stars. Pleasant and enjoyable beach. read more

Absolutely stunning beach! Has a cute little playground too for kids. It is pay to park in the public parking spots. Only negative was the outrageous amount of sand fleas there were. Other than that we enjoyed our time watching the sunset/storm roll in. read more
This is a decent little beach hidden in the back of a Marathon neighborhood. It's definitely small and don't expect it to look like most Florida beaches, because that's just not how the Keys beaches are. Nonetheless, it's very enjoyable and will help you get your sun/ beach fix that you are craving. The water is gorgeous and the views are still up to par. They have a rinse station but when we were there (December 2020) they did not work. There's also bathrooms and a water fountain that does actually work. As well as a small playground for the kiddos just off the beach and some sitting/ picnic tables, so it really does have a lot of stuff to be able to spend the better part of a day. Free parking as well so can never complain about that. read more

We went to our first beach at the keys. Such a relaxing beach. Sun was out but nice shade near the trees but be careful of the coconuts. Water is nice and warm in November. Beach had a public facility to use.it wasn't overcrowded. Nice relaxing beach. Nothing like the east coast but decent. read more
BEAUTIFUL beach and facilities for families and pets! Our main reason for coming here from 2 hours away was primarily because it is a dog friendly beach and we wanted to bring our pup. The beach is clean, peaceful, and it has an amazing atmosphere to sit and watch the sunset. We will definitely return with our pup. read more

This is such a wonderful hidden gem in the keys. Since the beaches in the keys are usually very rocky and do not really offer wide and sandy ones, this was a great surprise. It's not a very big beach , but it has a lot of space for people to set up and lay relax. There are palm trees for shade and there even is a little playground for the kids. They loved it. There are a couple gazebos with picnic tables as well. There is a full section of the beach, that is very sandy and then there is one side of the beach that has rocks only. There were some people fishing over there. All and all, a great hidden beach. read more
