Easily one of the best beaches in the FL Keys... wide, white sand beach, plenty of facilities (bathrooms, showers), recreation areas like volleyball and BBQs. Fenced parking area provides easy access to beach. Lots of beautiful, green tropical space! Water is very nice, calm, and beautiful. Very worth a stop to enjoy when you're passing through Marathon Key! Highly recommend!

Saw jelly fish in August on the shore and couldn't believe that this type of jelly fish doesn't sting. Water was too hot of course but this was worth the stop over.

Probably the best beach we visited while in the Florida Keys. The keys doesn't have many sandy stretches of beach to begin with so this was a nice gem to find on the southern tip of Marathon. The beach is not huge but enough to stretch your legs and walk up and down, plenty of room for everyone to still spread out. Lots of nice, white sand and plenty of shells and coral to pick through. When you are done with getting sandy, the beach offers a nice playground for the kids and plenty of shelter to have a picnic or sit to people watch. Just up the road is a Publix and strip mall with various stores, so you can just buy anything you need for the beach without having to stuff your car full from your hotel/resort. Buy a Publix sub and some chips and you are set for the afternoon. Bathrooms onsite were clean and well-stocked. Parking is pay by the hour and they are hawkish at checking times so don't skip on paying. The app makes it very easy to do. If we come back to the keys, we will make sure to centralize ourselves to this beach since it was one of the best we visited while touring the Florida Keys.

A beautiful little beach in the Florida Keys, having traveled to the Keys for many years and being a resident of Florida I definitely understand that there are really beautiful beaches across the state - this beach may not rate in the top 10 across the state but very well could be one of the best in the Keys. Lots of sun and shade here and wonderful amenities including close proximity parking to the beach, clean restrooms, shelters with picnic tables and charcoal grills, a playground for the little ones and plenty of sand, clear water and palm trees filled with coconuts, yea I admit the sea grass can be annoying but that's part of the Keys just as the coral is but none of this is a deal breaker for me. If you visit any of the State Parks here you'll notice they don't manage or clean up the sea grass it's considered an essential part of the ecological health of the Keys. I noticed that on the day I visited this beach it was not an issue to the point that it could ruin my experience, it's late November it's sunny and 77 degrees - I don't remember ever having a bad day at any beach so I'm not going to complain about this one, I feel I'm pretty lucky to be here...

Beautiful, calm beach! Sand is clean and white. Water is gorgeous blue. Parking is $5 per hour. New(ish) playground which is good for kids ages 8 and under. There is a nice walking path and indoor restrooms on the property. Dogs are welcome on a lease. They have dog poop bags available. They also have several pavilions that would make a great place to eat lunch and relax.

    Pretty beach.

The Keys may not have fantastic beaches but we enjoyed our time at this one. There isn't a ton of beach area but the sand was nice enough. The waves and current were pretty rough during our visit but the water was warm-ish. There was also very little trash on the sand. Parking is NOT free. I think we paid $10 for two hours--you pay at a little pay machine. The price is a little steep but it is what it is. Personally, I didn't see any warning signs about jellyfish but I guess there are such signs so watch yourself out there. No lifeguards here so watch your kiddos in the water. I would gladly return.

Favorite beach in the Keys. Not sure but I think it used to be free parking but paid $10 for 2 hours today. Still worth it. Beautiful beach. Nice playground for the kids. Wish there were a concession stand for some snacks. My advice, if you're coming - bring anything you want to drink or eat. We do a Publix run lol

Very well kept area with clean facilities and various activities like volleyball. Not too crowded at this time of year. The water is clear with some rocks and grass, but it is a nice area to swim.

Beach tucked away off the beaten path... This is a nice beach on the Keys. We stopped here at this beach in Marathon Key to watch the sunset. Lots of people... so different from Anne's Beach where we first made a stop. Sombrero Beach is mangrove-free!! BUT there are warning signs to watch out for jellyfish! I guess the Portuguese man o' war are rampant here. Yikes! With its soft sand on this long stretch of beach and warm turquoise waters, it is one of the best-kept beach secrets in the Florida Keys. It was a lucky find. I did not go on the water but started collecting sea shells. The shells were cute and tiny then I realized I didn't have anywhere to keep or hold them so I let them go in the water. Parking can be challenging since this is one of the prettier beaches before heading to Key West. Well maintained park with bathrooms and showers available. They also have a children's playground and volleyball courts. Sunset was beautiful! Review #2804

Checking out what public beach to go to on our stay and this one won! Awesome playground for kids as well as picnic tables and bathroom and even a water bottle fill station! So beautiful

Beautiful beach especially at Sunset. Can't beat it in Marathon. Public parking nearby.

    Patty M.

Beautiful Sandy beach, long stretch, not crowded, Dog Friendly, shallow area for kids. Residents don't pay parking. Parking stations available, section for launching kayaks. Picnic covered areas, public bathrooms very clean. A huge volleyball net for group games.

    Cathy W.

Nice beach and park. Great paved walking path throughout and nice public restrooms available. It was on and off misting rain on the day we stopped by for a visit but it was an enjoyable stop nonetheless. There's a covered play area for kids and a sand volleyball court.

Cute little beach close to our hotel in Marathon. It had a little cove to the side. My 4 year old loved hanging out around there.

Used to be a lovely beach but is now beyond smelly. The stench is so strong you smell it from your car before even arriving.

Bahia Honda means "Deep Bay" and refers to the deep bays of Bahia Honda Key. It is pronounced Bah -EE-ah Own da. It is 30 feet deep which makes it the deepest natural harbors in the Keys. It was established in 1961and is known for its history as part of Henry Flagler's "Overseas Railroad" and is now known as the Overseas Highway. In 1935 there was a huge hurricane that destroyed the railroad. What makes this park so unique is that it is encompasses an offshore island and it sits between Ohio Key and Spanish Harbor Key close to the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge. The park has 524 acres of lush beauty. It is open everyday of the year from 8am - sundown and the fee is $8 per vehicle. Clean restrooms and outdoor showers available. There is so many things to do such as snorkeling, swimming in the gin clear crystal waters, hiking out to the Old Bahia Bridge, birding, camping, boat rentals, a concession stand, rent a cabin, kayak, fishing or visit the nature center. We found parking easily and made our way out on the trail to the Old Bridge. The views from up here are panoramic. After viewing the bridge and the views, we really could not resist taking a dip at one of the beaches. The water was still warm enough to swim in November and it felt fantastic. What I love most about the state park beaches along the Keys are all the marine life you can view while swimming or just walking on the beach. No place like it! If I could give this park 10 stars I would, it is that incredible. Cannot wait to come back again.

So if you want to play catch, frisbi or a good 'ol game of tag, you better watch your step in this mine-field of feces. --- Then again you don't really have to watch yourself while running around... because you are not allowed to "run" here. Apparently, the park has a "no running" rule. --- Bocce balls courts are in desperate need of repair. They're poorly built and in lieu of aggregate or alternate compacted base, they utilize cheap artificial turf (mini-golf putting green material) over plywood. The plywood is warped making the field of play all cocked and tilted. PARK RULES (as posted): --- PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES --- Do not use the playground during wet weather --- No ball playing --- No throwing sand --- No glass containers --- No running pushing or shoving --- Do not use the equipment when wet --- Use equipment properly First, "wet" concerns are noted two times (kinda redundant) Second, "NO BALL PLAYING" at a park? no ball playing, even though there is a bocce ball court, basketball court, tennis courts, volleyball court and all that open field. Thirdly, I can understand no sand throwing, pushing, shoving but NO RUNNING? No running... in a park? I just want to know how much the "rule makers" drank the night the rules were agreed upon. *** side note: this park is in Saddlebunch Key (mile marker 15) and not in Key West (Yelp does not recognize Saddlebunch Key, it automatically changes to Key West)
