I was in a bit of a bind when a puppy yanked out my fresh nose piercing (that I got done somewhere else!) and was nervous to go to somatic out of fear it would be pricey. I purchased a new nose ring for less than what I had been expecting to pay anywhere, much less here and the staff was beyond wonderful. Liz was incredibly helpful and kind; they helped me figure out what jewelry I needed and what the best care would be- it seems as if the place I got my piercing misguided me in that capacity. Changing this to a 1-star rating after hearing a piercer here told another patron they have "a hamburger belly." Obviously, this shop needs to learn how different bodies look and how to pierce different types of bodies. Body shaming is not a cute look on you Somatic. I went in as a walk-in. Place was cute, clean and staff seemed welcoming. The person who inspected me for a navel piercing informed me they "do not recommend" a navel piercing for me because they thought it would not heal well or would take a long while. I shared I wanted to move forward with the piercing even with the long healing time. I shared I usually have a harder time healing anyway. They shared they could not do the piercing because my belly button stretched horizontally when I sat down. Doesn't everyone's belly button do that? They explained it would be unethical to pierce me because "what if the piercing doesn't heal and you would have spent all this money. It just wouldn't be ethical." If that was the case, I wouldn't have gotten any of my piercings. I pointed out my confusion for this logic as most people's belly buttons stretch in that way, especially people who have rolls, like me. This person explained they didn't want me to think "it's a weight thing." I sat there thinking "What in the world?" So, I accepted the response and walked out of there so confused. Anyway, I went into Envy LB and they had no problem piercing my navel. read more

I did it!! I love it! I have NO regrets... I think my life is taking me to a random place, where I just do things because Im bored and why not. Ive been wanting my septum pierced sooo.. Yelp to the rescue! After doing my Yelp research I came across Somatic. They specialize in Piercings, so its not like you have a tattoo artist doing your piercings, and thats what sold me. Jill was soooo nice, because I came into her shop a ball of nerves. She sat me down, explained everything that was going to happen, Including after care. When it came down to the actually piercing she was super sterile, clean needles, gloves, no nasty needle guns... No pain. It felt like some one plucked a hair out my nose. They have a gorgeous selection of jewelry. like this beautiful Aztec bone jewelry, like something out of Apocalypto... It made me contemplate piercing something else. My septum piercing was only $30 but I had to buy a ring and I got a hoop barbel 12 gauge for 30 bucks. Its high quality stuff that want stick to your skin or anything. Her Pandora station rocks, she rocks. O and she gives you an aftercare package, which is basically a sea salt pack, and if you ever run out you can go back and get some more for FREEEEEE!!! O and if you loose a bead she will replace that as well. I love her. If I ever get something else pierced Ill go back to her. :D read more

After my initial nose piercing somehow started to migrate up the side of nose and resting on the bridge of my nose, not my nostril where she and I agreed on the marked spot. To be honest I think she pierced it higher than normal as the piercer Sara asked me to lay down. I thought that was odd. Why not have me sit up? Why run the risk of anything going down my nose? Any way, I wasn't happy with the placement about 2 months after and when I went back to have it repierced on my actual nostril and I was told they couldn't do it and run the risk of infection? How so if I'm soaking it twice per day in the sea salt? I went back about 6 weeks ago and had my nose repierced again by Sara. This time we had a hard time getting the placement right because she was hell bent on piercing the same place after I told her the last one was too high...SEVERAL times. She was getting irritated because I asked to mark the placement. I figured she was pregnant and tired, I get it. So she proceeds to pierce my nose again and I noticed it was a sharper pain, the first one didn't hurt. I'll be damned 3 days later I start developing a bump in my nose, and I'm following the healing directions. Well I get a dental mirror and look in my nose and the piercing is going at an angle on the thick crease part of the nostril?? No wonder it hurt so bad. Sheesh! Needless to say I took it out, the bump has healed, and all is good again. I'll be going elsewhere for sure.... read more

I went here for the first time on Saturday 10/19 to get a conch piercing during their anniversary sale. All jewelry was on sale and piercings were buy 1 get 1 free. I split the deal with my friend who got a nose piercing. I got a 16g conch piercing in my left ear. Everything is clean, and everyone is nice although the girl who rung me up was a little intimidating (I don't remember her name, but she just seemed really bored and uninterested. Short one-word answers kinda thing.) So here's the pricing breakdown with my friend and I splitting the deal: $15 service fee + $30 jewelry - $6 jewelry discount (20% off) = $39 I left a 15% tip, so my total came out to $44.85. My jewelry was a 16g stainless steel barbell. The person who did my piercing was Sara. She's tall, thin, and has dreads. She was super nice and informative and made me feel really comfortable. Thanks, Sara! I sat in with my friend when she got her nose pierced and the lady who pierced her was also super nice and all that good stuff. Since this was my first non-vanilla piercing (previously I only had my lobes pierced), I didn't know what to expect with the pain. It was pretty bad, but then again I have a low pain tolerance... It was a sting followed by a tearing, ripping jolt finished with a warm, ache and throb. It's so worth it though because I love my new piercing. I've gotten my lobe piercings at Claire's, my cartilage at the swap meet, and my navel at some random shop in Venice Beach. I've been wanting to get a facial piercing and I knew I wanted to get it at a legit place. I found Somatic in Yelp. Great reviews, great jewelry... Gave it a shot. I got my nostril pierced by Sara. She was super friendly and helpful. She addressed all concerns I had about the jewelry (since I'm allergic to crappy metals). The place was extremely clean - wiped down the table with the stuff they use in hospitals. My ring took about 15 minutes to sanitize. She told me exactly what to expect and what to do during the process. She was very detailed on the aftercare instructions. She gave non-iodized salt in a bag and said to come back for more if need be (for free) and explained the importance of precise measurements (which I appreciated as a science nerd). She also helped me out with my navel piercing, which I got 2 years ago but seems unhealed. She told me it wasn't infected but may be irritated because the jewelry. I found a navel ring in the shop that I liked and she put it I for me (for a $5 charge). And... No blood! I was bleeding the day before trying to put a new ring. Sara explained it was the screw tip. It's definitely acting better now. Two weeks post-piercing, my nostril still looks great. No pain, swelling, redness, or pus. Since I spend most of my time out of the country, I was afraid I'd come across a problem and be helpless. Sara said I can contact the shop via FB/IG/phone if I had any concerns. So awesome. Definitely would come back for new jewelry and/or piercing (never going to a sketchy place again!) and would recommend it to anyone. --THANKS SARA! BUT if you don't like parallel parking, practice before you get there! Might be a little hard to find parking (near residential area) depending on the time of day but it isn't too bad. read more

My sons birthday is today and he really wanted to get his septum pierced and we thought Somatic was the perfect place to go. We called ahead around 6 and asked if they had walk-in. The woman that answered the phone said yes, and we are able to come but not too late because they might not be able to take us. We told her that it was fine because we were going to leave right then and there, mind you I live 10 minutes away. We get there (around 6:30) and we're about to sign in but I forgot my sons birth certificate because he is a minor. The girl helping us then proceeds to say we should just make an appointment. She grabs a card that has all the requirements for what minors need to bring in. I proceeded to ask her a question about it and she cut me off and said "Everything you need to know is right there". We told her we're just going to grab the birth certificate and come right back. As we're signing in on the sheet, after we sign his name, she then goes "wait I'm going to go check with the piercer and see if we have a time". She comes back out and says that they can't do it because they have 3 people ahead, an appointment at 7:00 pm and we'd have to drive to get the birth certificate anyways. You could tell she didn't want to be bothered with us and wanted us to leave. We then told her that it's his birthday and was really excited. She just brushed it off and walked back inside. Will not be coming back, and if they want other people to come back I suggest they keep her in the back instead of greeting people. I would understand if she said something along the lines of, "Honestly we have too many people" or even "Can you come back another time so we can guarantee you can be seen" but it was none of that. I'm very disappointed but happy I didn't spend my money here. read more

One of my holes closed up, and I've been meaning to get it checked/repierced forever. I called in to see if they did simple repiercings on the ear lobe. The girl on the phone was nice and said that I could come in at any time. Five minutes later I was in the store. I guess my hole was still open, just super tight, so I was able to do a stretch instead of a piercing. $50 later, I had a stud in place and was on my way. Erica gave a complete over view of post-piercing care and Sarah was helpful in walking me through the steps moments before. I was beyond pleased and would definitely recommend anyone looking for a piercing shop in LB. PS- I was referred by Port City Tattoo (by the Traffic Circle) and was given a $5 discount on my visit. I got a left tragus piercing and payed 70$ in total after a 0.15% tip. Parking is street or behind the shop, it smelled nice and incense-y (?) got a pretty cute vibe going on indoors. I really hate to have to write a bad review, in fact this is the first I've ever written. And I probably would have let this go as usual had they not refused to refund me for their poor work. I visited Somatic over the weekend to redo a piercing I got from Claire's at 13 years old. I figured the smart thing to do would be to visit a professional and really get it done right this time. Who would have guessed that the piercing I got from Claire's would be much better than the one I got from Somatic? The piercing itself was easy and fast. The next day I notice the stud on my right side is is very crooked, sitting at about a 45-degree angle to my earlobe. It almost kind of makes an X shape with my second lobe piercing. I figured that I would give it a couple days to see if it would straighten out once the swelling went down. It didn't. When I went in to the shop three days later to discuss my problem, I was told it was too late for a refund. They did offer to repierce it for me, but why would I want more of something I am unhappy with? For me, it's not really about the money, it's about customer service and being accountable for your mistakes. My recommendation for Somatic 1. Get better at piercing 2. They explained that even though a place might claim that they sell "nickel free surgical steel" that it might not be the case. Two days after switching the bump was no longer red.... Their staff is friendly and they knew their stuff. Jewelry is very pretty but I recommend that you pay very close attention to what you are selecting especially if it's stone. I wanted opal earrings. I saw an opal earring and asked if they had another one of the same to match. A couple weeks later I took them out and noticed that they look similar but are not the same. One is clearly opal and the other is moonstone. Idk if the girls figured they're close enough to each other. But after I chose the opal one I didn't check to make sure that the other one matches. Very disappointing because they were so expensive. $260 for the lobe piercings and the jewelry all together. For that price little mistakes like that are a big deal. read more
