I've been pierced here twice, and unfortunately neither experience was very positive. I do love my piercings and they've both healed well, but there were issues during my rook piercing appointment that made the experience really uncomfortable. The piercer's tools broke during the appointment, and I was left in a lot of pain while waiting for everything to be fixed and finished. Every other piercing shop I've visited has felt welcoming and comfortable, but Somatic came across as awkward and somewhat judgmental, which made the overall experience even less enjoyable. read more

Ive had my navel pierced for over 25 years. The other day the top ball came off. I looked for it but it was nowhere to be found. Now Im at an age where I should probably just leave it out but this piercing has special meaning. Before my best friend was killed it was the last thing we did together. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Super-clean and professional establishment worth the price. I was looking for some small and simple high-quality earrings that I could just leave in (because I'm a lazy mofo) and Somatic hooked me up. I'd first gone in to their sister fine jewelry store next door (Good Fortune?) and was informed that I should look at the body jewelry in Somatic, as most jewelry should be taken off at night. So I moseyed on over and Liz was on hand to help me out. She showed me their selection of earrings and prices for the different metals and let me peruse and ask questions to my heart's content. Ultimately I got 4 small titanium hoops with clicker closures, which I opted to have Liz install for a fee. She actually did it in one of their piercing rooms (I did have to sign a thing)--maybe it was overkill for just earrings but it was fast and easy and worth it for me not to struggle with them at home. Let me take you on a journey This story is about a grown adult who didn't get her ears pierced until a VERY ripe age (literally a year ago) I really have to thank my friend who literally picked me up, drove me here and just dared me. I've always wanted my ears pierced because I'm super girly. And yes, I have attempted many times but have chickened out. When I arrived everyone was really friendly. I was preparing myself for getting made fun of for being an adult and never having a piercing before jk lol. I think all the workers here were a little shocked and excited for me. After filling out all the paperwork I did have to wait a little bit since I was a walk in. Maybe 30 minutes?? If that. This is one of the popular piercing places that pop up when you search for piercings. I'll admit, it was expensive. Even for my expensive taste. But, I was extremely happy. I did pick the gold earrings since I didn't know if my ears would be sensitive to any other metals. (My dad is allergic to all metals) When I got to the back room my friend wasn't allowed to come with me (i don't know if this was because of Covid rules since this was a year ago? Or if it was just the workers preference??) I was very very nervous lol. Even though I'm always getting bloodwork and IVs done for my condition The workers all made me feel so comfortable and to be honest I didn't feel a thing. Everyone here was pumping me up I did have to come back to get some more of the piercing cleaner (just some salt water mixture and it was free) I had an issue with one of them getting a little infected (but that was not their fault) actually, had to come back a few times. And each time the workers were great. I was so excited and getting ahead of myself, I kept coming in and having them check to see if my ears were healed up enough so I could change them into real earrings But overall I can't imagine not wearing earrings now. Everyone who knows me knows what's on my birthday and Christmas list now... Earrings lol They have street parking and honestly even if you're just getting your ears pierced, go to a place like this. You do not want some teenager at Claire's doing this. I first came here back in 2012 or so for my first lip piercing, and returned in 2024 for snakebites. Despite the bad reviews, I felt the employees were super friendly and approachable. Somatic is definitely professional, up-to-date, and they only sell quality jewelry. I remember I bought a cute leaf ring here years ago, and wish they did sell more novelty pieces because I think that was one-of-a-kind and designed by an individual. The difference is that you do pay for the service beforehand, which is great, so you know upfront how much it's going to cost. The ladies are very thorough with explaining everything, particularly the healing process. They even give you a cute little scoop, and a bag for your salt soak, in another bag. I love their attention to detail and found it cool how they rebranded their interior! I am pleased with my experience and highly recommend this place. Funny to say that this is the first and last place I'll probably go to for piercings. And I've been to Future (Chris probably has the cheapest prices, but cash only), Skanvas, EngineerInk, Trigger Happy (don't go there; they messed up my industrial), Outer Limits (pricey, but Greg is great), and have pierced myself. read more

Somatic is an elevated, eclectic, extremely CLEAN and unique piercing shop. I've been coming here for almost ten years! I love how it's mostly a female staff, and the wide jewelry selection is unique and versatile; you won't find jewelry options like this at your typical piercing shop. Today Liz changed my nose ring from one stud to a new one (see photos). Tools are always wrapped in plastic brand new; I watched they wipe down the piercing room after the girl before me and have noticed that they have always taken the time to do so, even if it's extra busy. Besides the wide selection of extremely unique, gorgeous jewelry selection, the staff is my favorite part about visiting Somatic. This is the only place I will go when it comes to piercing and piercing jewelry. The cost to simply change my nose ring was VERY affordable. Love you guys! Staff aren't honest. Earrings are way too expensive you'l get surprised with how much you gonna pay they charged you 1 by 1 parts of the earring and worst part you thought it was all gold but when I got home I found out that it was only the top part or ball part of the earring. They Didn't bother explaining that each hole you want has a service fee and not only that the job isn't good they do it in their own way not in yours. Liz made it but when I got home, its not what I expected she pierce it going downward instead of the same line where the earring was. So its gonna be hard on my side if I change it myself. Nose piercing experience: In January 2024, I came to get my nose re-pierced. Even though my piercing closed 7. Years. Prior... The associate said that re-piercing wouldn't be necessary--they believed they could just put in new jewelry. But the process hurt A LOT--worse than if she would have just re-pierced it. Maybe she was trying to save me money, but I really wish she would have just re-pierced it. Jewelry: the gem on the stud I bought from them fell off after only 5 months. Also, they gave me a flat back threaded stud that you had to screw on and off, but didn't share this or explain how to use it. So When I tried to take it off after the gem fell off, I literally couldn't do it myself bc they never shared it was screw off and my fingers literally couldn't grip it. When I came in to ask how to out the stud, they said to make an appointment so someone can change it for me--it felt like a money-grab to get another appointment. I don't understand why they wouldn't share how to do it myself and to give me a user-friendly, threadless stud. Aftercare: they give you salt and tell you to soak the piercing in warm water twice a day. I was consistent for a few days, but because it's so much more wonky than just spraying piercing saline solution, I just stopped doing it. When I finally got honest with myself and realized I needed a simpler aftercare method, I came to see if they had other recommendations or products, but they kept pushing the salt water method and I felt shamed by them for bc "I was not taking the time to take care of my piercing". It felt really shitty. I wish they would offer other after-care products or at least just have the decency of offering other places to find them. And don't shame customers that don't want to do the salt soak method--it's wonky and people have different levels of capacity and energy for taking care of their piercings. I've gotten pierced 6 other times over my life and spray saline solution worked JUST FINE to help me heal all of those times... I ended up going to New Flower Studio to get an aftercare product and to help me change the damaged and wonky jewelry from somatic and they were extremely helpful and thoughtful. The only reason why I'm not giving 1 star is because the studio is clean. read more

The studio is very vibrant, very clean, nicely, decorated and organized. Everyone I encountered was really nice and helpful. I'm came in ready to drop up to $1000+ dollars CASH on 18-24k nickel free jewelry today while the shop was completely empty. The guy at the counter was really nice and trying to help me, I explained to him that I recently discovered that I am allergic to a great deal of my environment. As I'm speaking to him, some woman comes barreling out of the back and starts asserting that there are no nickel free options except platinum, and I just went with it because I have an actual background in science, so it was very obvious that she was impersonating a scientist and was talking about alloys in a very elementary way that exposed that she had little to no knowledge, despite her overconfidence. I've met a lot of people who get off on pretending to be scientists, especially since the birth of social media. Everyone is a self proclaimed scientist now. She must be awful to work for, I felt so bad for the poor employee who was so sweet and I preferred talking to. He looked so uncomfortable during the exchange. She even told me that 24k gold had nickel in it which was absolutely absurd, but because I have tattoos, she must have assumed I wouldn't know about science.... Which is weird. So many of my colleagues are covered in tattoos. I just nodded, said okay to appease her, and told her to have a good day. She did everything she could to not work with me, even though I was sitting there with the money in my hand and the guy had just told me they could get custom jewelry. Truly bizarre experience... and to be honest it's not my first strange experience with that shop... this was just the strangest. Needless to say I'll be going to Kay jewelers for my 24k nose ring and 24k nipple ring, I called them after and they said they would take my money and make me custom 24k jewelry. read more

Dear Somatic Long Beach, here's some information you need to know before being rude to another customer with a disability. According to the law and the American Disabilities Act, "Businesses in California cannot ask for proof that a dog is a service animal. They are only allowed to ask two questions: 1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and 2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?. Businesses cannot ask for documentation, proof of certification, or require the dog to demonstrate its ability. Your employee DID NOT ask either question. Two questions I would happily have answered. Today I entered your establishment just to get some information on ear piercing. I carried my service dog in. He weighs 18 lbs. Instead of a hello, or a cordial how can I help you, the young women immediately said to me no dogs allowed unless service animals. When I tried to tell her HE WAS a service dog, she cut me off saying emotional support dogs do not count. Did I LOOK like I needed an emotional support dog? Was this ageism? Why did she label me that way so quickly. Especially since she was wrong. I have lived in the LB for nine years. I have never been treated this poorly. I hope whomever owns this place shares the LAW with those who work there. A refresher course is needed. I won't be back, I like to feel welcome when I spend money, but I hope the next human with a disability is treated far better. It looks like they do good work, sadly I will never know. read more

I have gotten many piercings over the years (6 in my ear, + navel) at many different places, and of course being in college, I got them cheap. This means cheap jewelry, no aftercare, cash only, and a big burly man (who was SO nice!) piercing a tiny hole in my head! This location is definitely a better quality piercing experience. The staff is SO kind and helpful and patient. They have a really good jewelry collection that seemed to have pretty fair pricing. I got a simple surgical steel opal stud because I know I'll want to change it out once it's healed! The girls also gave me advice on how to care for my piercing to help it heal and they give you an aftercare kit. They even gave me some advice on piercings I already had. I went in for a jewelry replacement for some old piercings. The piercer was great and able to check to see if the piercings were still open! I wanted to love this place because it seems all the younger locals rave about it. The staff were very nice and friendly, but the jewelry selection wasn't great and super expensive compared to other places I've been to. The services were also pricey. I'm used to places that offer multiple piercings with one fee, but each piercing here costs $25 and up. Even with a 2 for 1 deal it still ended up costing more than I was expecting. A few days in to healing I'm also noticing that my helix piercings aren't 100% lined up (hoping that's just a result of the swelling). I didn't really vibe with the place either. Parking is difficult, staff seem very buddy buddy with each other (maybe a little too friendly), and the rooms were a bit odd. I really wish my old place didn't close down, it was more organized and sterile. read more
