I had been wanting to visit for years and my family and I finally found the time to visit last month! We stayed for 2 days and it was perfect! Solvang is such a cute Danish town that has so much to offer! From bakeries, to museums, to restaurants to even a year round Christmas shop! My family and I really loved walking around town and checking out as many businesses as we could. I loved all of the windmills and the architecture of the buildings! I also really appreciate the access to their public restrooms - there was at least one on every corner! As well as trash cans, which to me shows that the City of Solvang cares about their visitors! I have been to other cities that don't offer public restrooms and restaurants are the only places to find them. Overall, if you're looking for a unique and fun place to visit, I highly suggest checking out Solvang!

The cute cuckoo clock the kids bought me from The Pebble People on a Mother's Day weekend over 10 years ago still hangs in my kitchen. Although it has increasingly become tourist-centric, giving way to several souvenir stores, this sweet little town has maintained its overall charm. We generally avoid the kitschy, knick-knack gift shops. We find ourselves easily spending 3-4 relaxing hours here with dining plans, snacking, exploring and shopping. It's still a beautiful drive from SCV with interesting places to check-out along the way. The Ostrich farm is a fun stop. Solvang gets overcrowded during the holiday season, especially on weekends. Parking is free everywhere but quite challenging during peak times. This last visit was on a Wednesday -- it was pleasantly quiet with plenty of parking. No crowds. Restaurants and bakeries are open, but some shops were closed. Additionally, a few stores will shut down for lunch. The Farmer's Market was a nice surprise. Given that we no longer have small children, we found the weekday experience much more enjoyable.

After the expo was over, the buildings were demolished and this wind harp was transported to its current location in Solvang. It plays peaceful music when the wind blows but it's not something I would go out of my way to visit. I was in, took a couple pictures, and left within minutes.

The town square isn't that big as everything is centered right in the middle. Loads of cute boutique and gifts shops. And of course all the amazing shops and tasting room. One after the other which makes it nice so you don't have to drive anywhere. Besides the tasting room, there's a couple breweries with great beer on tap. Perfect for an afternoon on the patio and just people watching and enjoying the day. Most places will have some kind of live music during the weekend. There's also an olive oil tasting room. But if you're looking for dining, loads of amazing places for an excellent meal. From something fast and easy with the cafes to fine dining. Bar le cote and Nellas kitchen are a favorite of mine. If you're looking for some places for a nice night cap or a drink, there's always The Tavern at Maddie's Inn. There's something for everyone. A cute town that is tucked in wine country that most people will drive by and not even know about it.
