Nice wind chimes when it's windy.... It's a one and done kinda place close to downtown Solvang. That's really all there is to say about California's oldest wind harp from 1915.

    Beautiful chime sounds!

Alana had two bookmarks in Solvang. This Wind Harp was one of them... This Art Installation is quite beautiful and unique because Mother Nature transforms this man made structure into a musical instrument when she blows through it with a gentle breeze! It's an amazing wind chime, presented in 1915 at the Panama Pacific International Exposition. Currently, this landmark resides at a nursing home. Look towards the left side and park right in front of it! It's another cool tourist attraction! Note: Alana and I both submitted name changes to Yelp Headquarters. This is not a recovery center. It is a landmark, art installation, and Local Flavor!

Wind Harp is what they call this giant thing that I would call a Wind Chime. Basically, it is a large instrument played by the wind, so yes, it's a Wind Harp. This Solvang Wind Harp is California's oldest one. It was at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. This Wind Harp was brought to Solvang after the Expo. It is located in Atterdag Village, across from a Nursing Home. As you go up a small road, it will be on the left. The structure is interesting. It almost looks like a bird cage. The chimes are inside. The wind blows through the pipes (chimes) to create music. Be sure to be still and listen to it for a few moments. I really enjoyed it! I think you will like it also!

I just love the City of Solvang!…read more Solvang is located about 6 hours from Sacramento, but we made a whole day out of the road trip by making stops in San Luis Obispo as well as Pismo Beach on the way down! I had been wanting to visit for years and my family and I finally found the time to visit last month! We stayed for 2 days and it was perfect! Solvang is such a cute Danish town that has so much to offer! From bakeries, to museums, to restaurants to even a year round Christmas shop! My family and I really loved walking around town and checking out as many businesses as we could. I loved all of the windmills and the architecture of the buildings! I also really appreciate the access to their public restrooms - there was at least one on every corner! As well as trash cans, which to me shows that the City of Solvang cares about their visitors! I have been to other cities that don't offer public restrooms and restaurants are the only places to find them. Overall, if you're looking for a unique and fun place to visit, I highly suggest checking out Solvang!

Our daughter still has her little Danish dress and matching clogs we bought years ago. The cute cuckoo clock the kids bought me from The Pebble People on a Mother's Day weekend over 10 years ago still hangs in my kitchen. Although it has increasingly become tourist-centric, giving way to several souvenir stores, this sweet little town has maintained its overall charm. We generally avoid the kitschy, knick-knack gift shops. We find ourselves easily spending 3-4 relaxing hours here with dining plans, snacking, exploring and shopping. It's still a beautiful drive from SCV with interesting places to check-out along the way. The Ostrich farm is a fun stop. Solvang gets overcrowded during the holiday season, especially on weekends. Parking is free everywhere but quite challenging during peak times. This last visit was on a Wednesday -- it was pleasantly quiet with plenty of parking. No crowds. Restaurants and bakeries are open, but some shops were closed. Additionally, a few stores will shut down for lunch. The Farmer's Market was a nice surprise. Given that we no longer have small children, we found the weekday experience much more enjoyable.

I would definitely come back here to learn about the house and to take the guided tour. This wasn't the purpose for me coming today but the gentleman who works here noted that it's a great tour and I know friends who have enjoyed learning about the family and the history of the house, getting a deeper dive of information. I came here with some friends for their first hosted event Sound Bath. A wellness day if you will. From start to finish everything was very organized and thoughtful. The staff hosting the event and the spiritual wellness guide and sound healer was wonderful. Everyone was nice and you felt welcomed. Not pretentious and just very positive and good vibes. We had a nice group and everyone was respectful and on time for the sound bath so it went off without issue. It was a relaxing experience and the grounds were very nice to hold this outdoor event. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, we found an area with shade, very nice. Very faint sounds of cars in the distance here and there which wasn't ideal but out of their control and once things settled in you really couldn't hear much external noise. After the relaxing sound bath we were offered tea and light pastry snacks. I opted for a water and began exploring the grounds instead of partaking in the refreshments. The grounds are lush and lovely, very zen. Loved the beautiful trees and walkways with small fountains and running water. It was green and pretty all around from the recent rains. Definitely a great location for events and to learn a little SB history. I will definitely do my research and come back again soon.
