We had a celebratory dinner here for a promoted work colleague. Our party of 8 shared appetizers and tried several entrees. Duck confit was just as expected, crispy and delicious.Fried calamari was very good. Pork chop was delicious and cooked perfectly. Was not impressed by their salads though. One of the best desserts I have ever eaten though: their unique take on carrot cake served with a trio of homemade icecreams: cream cheese, cinnamon and carrot flavored. We've lived less than 2 miles from Solstice for 6 years and made it in for the first time last night. We liked the ambiance and our waitress was okay but the rest of the experience was weak. The food is the center of the meal and we give it a 0-1 star. We ordered island creek oysters to start. I've had them at 20+ restaurants and they are always awesome, but at solstice they did a horrible job shucking the oysters. There was no brine. They were all dried out. Plus, they didn't serve them on ice but instead on a huge bed of salt. Huh??? For the main course we ordered tuna, a pizza, and fries. The rice with the tuna was decent but the tuna itself was awful. It was bland, cold, and the color on it was unlike any tuna we had seen before. The pizza was burnt. No, brick oven-esq pizza isn't supposed to taste like ashes. The fries were the best part of the meal, but even those were a little soggy. Plus they seemed to give us a bunch of tiny 1-2cm pieces of fries. The bill, with two glasses of wine, was $98. Very impressed with the food and drinks! The service was great as well. I had the fork and knife Caesar salad, New York sirloin steak and creme brûlée for dessert. All of it was delicious. The salad was a little noisy to eat since the hearts of romaine weren't already cut. Everything was very fresh. I also had 2 glasses of rosé. I would recommend Solstice for occasions when you want more than a casual dining experience but don't want to pull out all the stops. The atmosphere is classy without being fancy or pretentious. There's a small bar when you first walk in if you don't want table service. It was quite busy on the Friday we went, so take its popularity into account when you're making plans. Entrees are in the $20-$30 range; not an inexpensive night but we felt the overall experience was worth it. The menu focus is on upscale american, nothing earth-shattering but that's not really the intent. We enjoyed the app, entrees, and dessert we got; everything was nicely executed. The special was striped bass, pan seared with a thai inspired sauce, on jasmine rice and bok choi slaw. A nice complete dish. I also recommend the homemade donuts served with butterscotch pudding and caramel for dessert. Service was good, no complaints. I want to start with, the food at Solstice has always been great, over priced but great. That being said I'll never go there again. The service was bad, hostess was incredibly rude. I won't go on with that because the main issue is the mark up on wine! When a restaurant advertises a $40 bottle of wine for $75 I can live with that mark up as its expected when you go out. But when they up the price to $125 for that same bottle..that's a 400% mark-up on a $40 bottle!!! And won't honor the price advertised on the website..Sooo greedy and taking advantage of people who like the wine by such a high mark-up because it's becoming popular. We left after 1 drink and an appetizer we didn't get to finish because the busboy took it of the table! read more

I want to start with the food at Solstice was fabulous. We had a wonderful food experience. Now with that being said our dinner for four with tip was well OVER $500! OUCH is appropriate at this point. So we were conscience of the restaurant limiting the fact that there was a two hour limit to tables considering that it was a Saturday night. Observing that there were 6 open tables and no one coming into the restaurant we were there for approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes. The hostess had the audacity to come over to us to tell us that we had to leave because the next set of people for our table had arrived. We were extremely apologetic and to our surprise - there was NOT ONE PERSON waiting for a table. Seriously? And we were about to order another round of drinks. And at this time of COVID with a half empty restaurant - they should have been grateful they had customers. Just saying! read more

I have never had a bad experience here, very attentive staff, friendly, knowledgable about their menu, wine pairing. EXCELLENT FOOD! Which is of course the most important part of a dining experience. I have come to order items from the menu I have never tried before or don't sound particularly good to me and I have not been disappointed. I'm convinced they could make any dish delicious. Every birthday, holiday, special occasion, my wife and I try to dine here whenever possible. It is on the expensive side, but I have never felt like I wasted a dime. It is not exactly family friendly, tables are close together so it might be a bit much to bring small children here. You'll definitely be bothering people as the environment is pretty quiet. The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because I have to give something. It's 8pm and the door is locked with a few cars in the lot. The website from 2017 says they are open til 9pm and Yelp say 10pm. It's too bad since they have good food when they actually are open. This isn't the first time this happened but it sure will be the last for me. If you plan on going good luck getting in. Update: since their sister restaurant A3 has come along, there have sadly been some big changes in my beloved Solstice. Firstly, the filet mignon is NOT at all what it used to be. The first time I got a fattier cut, I was willing to call it a bad night. The third time, not so much. They have increased the size of the filet and with that, the quality has gone. I've been hoping that these were merely off visits, but friends of mine who also love it here have expressed the same concern. The most recent visit for filet mignon (ordered medium rare) had come out almost completely raw. I know how hard it can be to cook a filet, trust me. But I also know that Solstice has never had an issue. When you are dealing with such large steaks, it's going to take a bit longer. If it were a bit under medium rare, I wouldn't have said a word. Even my husband was wide eyed in shock at the first cut into my meat. And I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $38 for a filet mignon on the south shore I expect to have a side of either roasted or whipped potatoes. Not French fries or sweet potato purée. Utterly disgusted in the lack of thought that had been put into the side dishes here lately. Oh, and why would you take the Seven Falls Merlot off the menu? I'm sorry to write this, it hurts me. But we used to come here several times a year and then some! Either with family celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or just date night for my husband and I. Went with my husband for his birthday. Not a great experience, wine served was not the year advertised on menu and was priced way too high for the year. When discussed with waiter and management staff, they acknowledged the menu was incorrect but did not offer any resolution, I thought that was unprofessional. We ended up paying too much money for a very mediocre wine. My husband's steak was fine, I had the pasta Bolognese which was not great, the meat in the sauce was overcooked. We have been going here it since it opened and I have to say it had definitely gone downhill in the past few years. Tuna was fresh and the idea interesting, but it wasn't memorable. Chicken under a brick was fine, but again nothing to write home about. When the lobster three ways arrived it looked like it wasn't enough food for my boyfriend. Topper-- he found a shell in it! Oh yay! This place is decent for the 50+ crowd that seems to frequent the place, if you're taste buds are still kicking you might want to look elsewhere for something to knock your socks off. Okay, okay, so my wife would have given it 4 stars but she's not writing the review. Pretentious, yes. For old people, yes (I'm old). Living room decor with spaceous room between tables, yes. Good food .... oh well.... Start with calamari appetizer. It is certainly filling because it is highly bread crumbed, greasy, and a bit overcooked. Then order the duck (creatively called Duck Duck on the menu) and you get a highly salted, fall off the bone overcooked leg quarter and slices of breast that are BRIGHT red on the inside. (How do they do that?) All in a sauce, I think, because whatever they put on it had no flavor. It was also over a bed of something vegetables cooked to an undescribable mess. I should mention the service, our waitress was pleasant but I think she learned her skills at Applebees. Okay, so I said my wife would give it 4 stars. She had a very average house salad and crusted salmon special which she enjoyed but ordered shortbread cookies for desert. Disappointing. I used to rave about this place and it was always a top choice for special occasions. Until our most recent special occasion. This past Tuesday night, three of us went in for a celebratory dinner. It wasn't busy as it was just before Thanksgiving, which was fine by us as we figured we'd get great service and not have to wait. Not so much. Our waitress was pleasant but fairly clueless about the menu and wines. We all ordered the same thing, filet mignon and a few appetizers. Appetizers were great, but it took a very long time for our salads. We actually thought she might have forgotten them. They came finally and then quite a while later, our steaks did. It took an unusually long time (all three of us have worked in the restaurant business, so are especially understanding). When they finally arrived, all three steaks were overcooked...I think they just forgot and left them on too long. Since the other two had ordered theirs medium rare, and saw some pink, they kept them. I'd ordered medium and my steak was all grey, so sent it back and told the waitress it was fine if they wanted to butterfly it as that would allow it to cook faster. Well, she acted like I was being difficult and wasn't the slightest bit apologetic. I never send food back, but when you are paying north of 30 for a steak, you do want a hint of pink at least. By the time she returned with my filet, which was NOT butterflied, the other two had fineshed eating completely as it had been a really long time. She offered no apology and no offer of a complimentary dessert or after dinner drink, which most decent places would have done as they ruined our dining experience. It was just a bummer overall. We will not be hurrying back there anytime soon. Too bad for them, as we had our company christmas party there last year and were considering doing it again this year. But, we want our party to be special, so we won't be coming here. read more

Just spent $120 for dinner, which was probably good, but they were having a problem with their heat. They sat us and 2 other couples in the back room, which was freezing. When I left I noticed the two front rooms, which were empty when I arrived, were warm! I asked the hostess why they didn't offer to move us and she said, "we're closing the back room and not sitting anyone else back there." There was no apology, no offer to move us, and no offer to even comp us a drink. I couldn't feel my feet! On the way out the hostess said, "good night it's cold out." Completely rude! I will never go back and their manager will hear from me. read more

What a shame. We have gone tomSolstice with some frequency and notified a continued deterioration in food, quality, service and overall ambience. On the occasion of our 49th anniversary we were given a gift certificate to Solstice and made a reservation. It is difficult to know where to begin. First, despite 85+ degree outside temperatures almost all the diners were wearing coats/sweaters because the A/C was blasting and no staff bothered to notice. The service while friendly was not efficient creating long waits without explanation. We ordered oysters, splitting the order of 6 oysters into 3 plain and three prepared. The first bite of the plain oyster included a stone which almost broke my tooth. The prepared oyster seemed to have been cleaned better. We sent the dish back. The tuna was served on a bed of fried rice. The tuna was excellent but the rice looked and tasted like a pile of oil. The other dish was just ok. When the check came the oysters were still on the bill. The service person explained that since it appeared 3 oysters were consumed they only changed us for half. I explained the after biting on the stone and spitting the rest out the dining experience was ruined. She explained she would talk to the chef but he did not like complaints. Am absolutely horrible experience and Solstice is permanently off our future dining experiences. Given some of the other reviews of overpriced poorly prepared food, I expect a change in operation or going out of business. read more

Amazing food just stopped in for dinner and they had added a new duck entree which was perfectly cooked. Crispy on outside and med rare inside. It was amazing! Cocktails are as good as always but the glasses size on martinis $14 seems to have gotten smaller and the prices higher. My Fianceè had the truffle scallops w Rice which was excellent. Bottle of Wine and two martinis and total meal cost was over $215. Wine was $75 3X store cost so need to lower prices on wine and cocktails. read more

I had been dying to try Solstice for years and decided the time had finally come. We arrived on a Saturday night at 845 and knew they don't take reservations so were thinking there might be a wait. We found 2 empty spots and excitedly parked our behinds on the bar stools. The bartender was very pleasant and knowledgable. I ordered the Shiraz and was pleased with the generous pour. We were notified that the tuna, scallops and halibut were out. We ordered the duck legs, lettuce wraps and lobster wood fired pizza. The food arrived timely.. The chicken, filet and shrimp wraps were excellent, served with a cole slaw and mild sauce. The duck legs were clearly overcooked and dry, lacking much glazed sauce and the side sauce was the same sauce that was served with the wraps. When the lobster pizza arrived, It seemed like it was put together haphazardly, lacked any taste and was missing the smoked bacon. It took about 15 minutes for us to get the attention of the bartender, who was socializing with the folks across the bar. The pizza was more of a flatbread then a pizza and even after the bacon was added it was still dry and lacking in flavor delivery. All the menu items looked delicious but I think maybe since we got there late that they ran out if items and were maybe rushed or jammed earlier and didnt put much effort into our appetizers. I really wanted to love this place based on the reviews but the food failed to meet my expectations. read more

Solstice without a doubt has the best ambience in Plymouth/Kingston. Unfortunately, the food doesn't own up to it. We have eaten here on several occasions. It is just such a comfortable place to enjoy a meal and company. The menu does not change often enough (hardly ever) and although some items are very good, others completely miss the mark. When I leave I typically say to my husband, I don't need to go there for a while, and don't ever let me order (fill in the entree) again. The salads are very good as are the pizza specials and desserts. Just the entrees are the problem. I will stick to the Square Cafe, Caffe Tosca or Sintra for nicer meals. read more

I first experienced Solstice last year for my boyfriend's birthday. We had a party of six and the staff was nothing but accommodating and professional. For appetizers, each pair shared a half dozen oysters on the half shell, which was served with yuzu sorbet, pickled Thai bird chili. I don't remember what others ordered, but for my entree, I had the Seared Diver Scallops over a butternut squash risotto, roasted mushrooms, sage brown butter, and crispy pancetta. I'm not always in the mood for scallops, but the dinner I had that night was phenomenal. For dessert, we chose the Warm Molten Chocolate Cake with hazelnut ice cream and a hazelnut buttercrunch. The butter crunch was a little too crunchy for my liking, but the cake was sinful. I highly recommend Solstice for the service, food, and atmosphere.
