Apparently I forgot to rate this place. My profound apologies as it's one of the Gems of the south shore. We often send folks visiting our office here and despite the 30 minute drive, we always get stellar feedback. My most recent visit was to celebrate my youngest son's birthday. We've been before and it was at the top of his list for this important meal. The decor is fantastic with warm tones and great care went into renovating this old train station. For those of you who want to partake of libation, there is a horseshoe shaped bar at the entrance which make a great place to meet prior to a meal. I was thinking duck but ended up going for the Ahi. Chef uses seasonal ingredients to augment the dishes and unfortunately I have an aversion to cooked apples. The tuna was well prepared and served on a bed of shrimp fried rice. It was accompanied by two vegetable spring rolls that were crunchy and scrumptious. My son started with the wedge and had the double chop for entree. The were very positively commented on and the fact that he all but chomped on the bone is indicative of their quality. He finished with a cheese cake that was outstandingly rich and flavorful. We've been there several times over the years. The food and service there are very good. While the menu is solid, it could use a bit more rotation and the addition of some new items. Update: We went back to Solstice last night on a whim. When the server came up I explained the problem with our last visit and asked her to make sure our food came out hot. We were not disappointed. My wife started with the roasted squash salad. It was very good but not enough goat cheese. She asked for more and they gladly provided. I had the baked oysters. Superb! Big juicy oysters with a small bit of spinach topped with a bubbly hot bechamel. Almost Rockefeller. Very good. My wife had the filet mignon with a side of asparagus. Cooked perfectly and delicious. I had the Duck-Duck, ordered it cooked a bit more than rare. It was cooked perfectly, except I like the skin a little crispier. Couple of glasses of red wine. Of course my wife wanted dessert. She had chocolate gelato and ordered a crème brûlée for me. Both delicious. Ordered a slice of their outstanding coconut cake to go- we will eat that later today. We took advantage of a unusually warm November night and were lucky enough to secure a table on the patio. We started out with a nice expresso martinis, raw oysters and truffle French fries (so good). For our main courses my husband ordered the Duck--Duck a five spiced breast and duck confit with butternut purée, shaved Brussel sprouts, pomegranate with a port wine jus, he couldn't say enough about it and the portion was ample for him. I ordered the Seared Tuna with spring roll and shrimp fried rice, absolutely delicious . For dessert ( yes, went all out) we ordered cappuccinos with Sambucas, the Carrot cake, which was 3 pieces of cake on top of a nutty sauce, topped with 3 homemade ice creams, toasted walnut, carrot sherbet and cream cheese sorbet. I've never tasted anything like it. Definitely enough for two. The waitstaff could not have been more attentive or friendly. Server forgot the bread, mashed pots, meh, added wine to bill that wasn't ours. No pen to sign the check. Still spent $75 on top of GC. not worth the money. I was recommended to Solstice and really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, the service and food was just passing, as well as the ambiance. Our waitress was really nice and informative, but she kept forgetting about us. Food wise, we ordered the 'lobster gyoza' which are mushroom pot stickers with a few pieces of lobster swimming in soy sauce on the side. I ordered the chicken dish which was good, but the flavor relied heavily on sugar. The prices are high here, which I am completely willing to pay but it means the standards go up. Called 9 days in advance for special celebration for our family. Was Our go to restaurant for special celebrations with fine dining and great wine. When we got there, the hostess was from minute walked in. Never had this experience there. Somewhere along the line our table reservation was put outside by the chain fence and railroad tracks. No table cloth and fine service there. We expressed it was a mistake and was never for outdoor seating. The head hostess came over and said no, I spoke to you and we have nothing else for you and can not accommodate anything but outside. So from 1st call two weeks prior, 24 hours before to reduce people and then 30 minutes before to see if we could arrive early, Zero information about only outside dining for a big birthday celebration. Both hostesses had zero customer service skills and refused to accomidate us. Was once loved place for special occasions. Left stranded on a Saturday night we planned for weeks. This is our second time at this place. We certainly remember it being good the first time and chose to come back with friends. The drinks are very overpriced. Certainly a lot of ice cubes left in the glasses. We had the following: vegetable spring rolls (I doubt that they were made in-house) salad (decent) tuna tartare (decent) lamp shank (dry - how does that even happen?) duck (perfectly cooked but overall bland dish which is sad) Server was professional and efficient but not friendly. The atmosphere is decent, the bar and high tops are more comfortable than the dining area. The temperature can be a crapshoot (by a heater is ridiculous), but I've also been cold. The service is consistently good and the same for the food. I've found their beef plates are better than the chicken (ie chicken on a brick is sometimes too salty and/or chewy). Whenever I've had their filet mignon with a choice of sauces I've always enjoyed it. Be mindful of what you are ordering because not all the dishes come with sides. It's also pricey. Two people who order meals and one drink each will easily be $100. Good variety of decadent desserts and a creative drink menu. Worth a try. read more

For the South Shore/Kingston, this place is superb. It is the lack of attention to details that distinguish it from a Boston restaurant. Minor things but still, napkins folded seam side out, dirty unwiped salt & pepper, the casualness of the staff, missed service points. I eat there often, usually at the bar, 80% of time the food is really good. I have however received dishes that had the wrong sauces/ingredients or where the ingredients clearly were not fresh. The bar is better imo than the dining room. Craig and Fabio are great. But I must agree with some other reviews here, there is a bit of a click here, and the regulars get treated far better. I have been passed over for service when the bartenders are tending to reg crowd, even if I was there first. When I have dined at a table, I have received service from great to downright rude. I sat at the bar one night while the hostess was on the phone behind the bar on a 20+minute personal call, not an emergency, just chit chat, it was distracting and annoying as she moved about twirling the cord around her body. The worst part though, which is beyond the restaurant's control, is the new money clientele that plague this place. Loud, classless, drunk individuals with no table manners, generally IPE residents. It ruins the whole experience to have to dine next to these people. Despite all of this restaurant. If you did not cut your dining chops in the restaurants of Boston or New York etc., you will think this place is the best you have ever been to. read more

We had been warned that this place will fill up early, and while we were seated immediately upon arrival an hour after the doors opened this past Saturday, there was already a good crowd in the dining room and at the bar. Crowds at a restaurant are a good sign, though, right? Solstice did not disappoint. We ordered the baked oysters appetizer, and I think we downed them in about 2 minutes flat. The Ceasar's salad was outstanding in taste and presentation, and the baked cod with the "chowder" sauce was out of this world. And in keeping with the crowd theme, as we were leaving there were many people waiting for tables and a few folks waiting to pounce into our parking space. We're definitely going back. read more

When in search for a romantic dinner for our anniversary, Solstice came highly recommended. Though the location is not especially ideal (nestled next to the railway), the intimate interior ambiance lulled me back into cozy comfort. There is a nice lounge/bar area, which is where the majority of the patrons were sitting; on the Monday of our dinner we were one of the only tables filled, which lent well to our purpose. The venue looks like it could accommodate large groups, and the dining and bar areas are well defined. Low lighting done right (dim without being dark) and proper professional table service (Shannade was exemplary!) heightened this dining experience. Every now and then we could hear the low vibrations of a passing train, but this only turned the conversation to the exciting prospect of travel. We started with the gnocchi in beef sauce. The "single" size yielded the perfect amount for two to share, the flavor and texture was rich and savory: the perfect introduction to our evening meal. My entree order of thick noodle spaghetti and (handmade papardelle, slow braised meat ragu, imported parmigiano 22$) - the serving was easily split (gourmet lunch the next day, an added bonus). Perfect pasta and a mouthwatering ragu. We shared the warm gingerbread cake dessert which was the the "cherry" to our meal (sweet, smooth, and just a hint of ginger heat). The bill for our romantic evening (including the bottle of wine we shared) came to around $130. The atmosphere, service, and flavor was well worth it - Solstice is a fantastic choice for high end cuisine and a romantic setting in the Plymouth area. read more

My wife and I dined here for our anniversary in mid September. We live locally and have driven by hundreds of times but never tried it out. We knew the prices were very expensive and had also heard mixed reviews from friends, so this is why it took us so long to try it out. When dining at an establishment that is this pricey I generally judge it by how many times I'm wowed by something, either in terms of creativity or uniqueness. Anyone can cook a steak or shuck an oyster, but it's what they do with it that sets them apart from others and justifies big prices. It was a Saturday night and the place was jammed at 6:30 PM. They don't take reservations for two on weekends, so we put our name on the wait list and carved our way through the sea of people to the bar. I was actually pretty ticked off when I stood there with a 20 in hand watching the bartender take everyone else's orders except mine, even those who were waiting less time than me. I guess being a regular has it's advantages... Two spots opened up on the corner of the bar and a regular and his wife took pity on us after seeing us passed over by the bartender. With a wave of the hand he beckoned him over and he apologized for the wait and took our order. Within a few minutes our table was ready and we took our drinks to the table and sat. The dining room decor is very warm and inviting with the exposed brick walls of this converted train station creating a sort of retro, upscale feel. We were given a pretty lousy table for two stuck right up against the wall. Although it wouldn't have been my first choice, it was still OK. For appetizers I ordered a half dozen oysters and my wife had the fried calamari. My oysters came with a choice of two sauces, I opted for the Chili Mignonette and the Lemon Yuzu. I have never heard of Yuzu before but it was explained that it is a sort of salty sorbet. It was fantastic, a real surprise since I had never had it before. The Mignonette was very good too with just the right amount of spice. The oysters were fresh and delicious. My wife said the calamari was simply the best she had ever tried. It was light, tasty with the just the right amount of flavor in the batter. It came with a spicy marinara that she didn't care for too much, but soon starting using my chili mignonette and found it to be a great compliment to the calamari. For entrees, my wife ordered the NY strip steak and I had a veal porterhouse chop which was offered as a special. My wife was a little disappointed with the steak, it was cooked to her liking at medium rare, but she found the steak to be a little chewy. We both agreed that this was probably more about the cut of meat rather than the quality of the steak. My veal chop was out of this world and we both shared it. It was cooked perfect and the meat had a deliciously fresh taste to it. Both our meals came with mashed potatoes and asparagus, both were very good. For dessert we shared a piece of chocolate molten cake that was very good. Her coffee and my double espresso were both great too. I noticed that they forgot to put our bar drinks on the tab so I mentioned it to the waiter who corrected it without a thanks or anything. Then I made sure to tip the bartender on the way out and he could have cared less too. The reason I'm deducting a star is for the service. The bartender at the beginning was very busy but still passed me over for others when he knew full well who was waiting the longest. Our waiter wasn't much better either having popped our bottle of wine and never once replenished the glasses, I did that all myself. Sorry but when I'm dropping 200 on dinner for two, you better be on your game and offer up top notch service. The food was great they're doing unique things at Solstice, the service left a lot to be desired in my opinion, perhaps we would fare better on a week night next time out. I will go back though in spite of the waitstaff because the chef is doing good things here. read more

Kind of sad to write this review. My wife and I have been going to Solstice for many years but last night our experience was such that we will not likely go back. We were even sat with the waiter who we normally request by name (but hadn't this time) and it was still bad. The menu is just so small these days that it is sometimes hard to find something you want. It was our 5 year wedding anniversary and my poor wife didn't like her soup special and her risotto was poorly cooked and tasted bland. My tuna nachos were good as always, same with the seared tuna entree. What really bothered me was the fact that the place was completely dead yet it took us a full 2 hours to get out of there. Normally when spending $250 on a dinner (we had a bottle of wine) I am taking my time but we couldn't wait to get out of there. Clearly a lot has changed since we first started going there back in 2003/2004 when they opened. We also like to get Solstice gift cards for friends and family but will likely go elsewhere. Went here a couple of weeks ago with my fiancee... We sat at the bar, and decided we didn't want to do full out dinner. We ordered goat cheese stuffed dates, tuna tartar, and duck winglets. All three were absolutley amazing! Cooked wonderfully, and served beautifully. My only issue- I orderd a glass of white wine, and fiancee ordered a vodka tonic. His drink was $7, mine was $12. For a house wine (and by the glass) I thought that was a little steep. Great food, great service and atmosphere. I would have given them another star if my white cheap wine hadn't been so over-priced. read more

Wow! This was the best meal we've had in quite some time. We had the Filet Mignon and Duck dishes which were accomanied by very tasty sides. For desert we shared a wonderful piece of Banana Cream Pie. It's not an inexpensive restaurant, but Ifeel that the price reflects the quality of the food. I went here on Sunday with my parents for my birthday! I had a Gemini cocktail, very good ( grapefruit vodka prossecco). We ordered the calamari and spring rolls for an appetizer, the sauce for calamari was the best, seemed like a soy sauce mixed with sweet chili. I ordered the duck, best duck i have had ( even out of ALL the restaurants in Boston) I was pleasantly surprised. For dessert i got the cinnamon doughnuts. It came with caramel sauce and fresh whipped cream . Would def recommend it. The only some what "negative" thing our table had to say was that the chocolate cake was very chocolaty, it could have been a smaller portion with more caramel ice cream to offset the chocolate. I have been told that this is one of the best places on the South Shore. Eating out is such s personal experience. The ambience is nice, great crowd and not too loud. First experience was horrible. Ordered my meal medium rare and it came to the table well done. My new meal came as my table mates were finishing their dinner. No apologies and no comp. Second experience was better, but no prize. The appetizers were delicious and arrived promptly after the first round of drinks. The main course arrived over 1 hour later!! Our server must have loved playing hide and seek as a child! Have been to Solstice once and it was very good. I am looking forward to returning. My bf had the veal medallions and they melted in your mouth. I had the double boned pork chop and I've had dreams about it since. It was FABULOUS!! Servers seemed a bit snooty and not interested in being there, but they were efficient and pleasant enough. The dining room was pleasantly decorated and dimly lit, which I like for dinner. Plenty of room between tables which is also a big selling point for me. The ambiance is perfect for a date or even an after work hours business meal. The wait staff are wonderful. My wife and I prefer to eat at the bar. The bartenders are top notch. While they could use more vegetarian choices, what they offer is workable. Also, the chef will take food restrictions into consideration and come up with a good meal. read more

Consistently excellent. Currently the highest-quality restaurant I have been to in the Plymouth Area. My family has thoroughly enjoyed this gem at least once a month for the past two years. Incredible food and cocktails (I particularly recommend the duck wings, the Gemini cocktail, and any soup they have for the evening). I am usually not so adventurous when it comes to soups, but I choose a soup every time and it is incredible! I really cannot say enough about the food; we have tried nearly everything on the menu multiple times and really enjoy their offerings. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is quite intimate and romantic. A wonderful date-night spot. This is easily the best restaurant I have eaten at, south of Boston. Though the menu is unique and interesting and suitable to the tastes of more experienced diners, they have options like pizza and their fries which would be very palatable for children or less adventurous folk (like my sisters). My family and I have been to Solstice numerous times, so when I decided to have a get together with a few friends and needed a casually classy restaurant that was centrally located to where we all lived, Solstice was the perfect place and they did not disappoint. It was a party of six on 12-6-15 and we were all ex-coworkers of Bradlees department store in Hyannis who in some cases we haven't seen in more than 10 years. All of the meals, whether it was the lamb, or the chicken under a brick or my filet mignon were perfectly cooked with the most attentive service. It isn't stuffy or pretentious in attitude and everybody both in the dining room and in the kitchen were on their " A " game for our get together and we couldn't have appreciated it more. Since most of the party had never been there, not only did Solstice make new fans of the restaurant, but my friends swore they would come back again.
