Had a wonderful experience at Solstice! It was me and a friend visiting for the first time. The atmosphere is comfortable with nice lighting and tables not cramped in. The service was great and really knew the bar and dinner menu extensively. The Cosmo was perfect and how a Cosmo should be and nice selection of liquor and draught. We ordered oysters which were fresh and delicious, the capriccio, and pork belly dumplings. The food was impressive and delivered promptly. The food was overpriced and very average...we are foodies and this restaurant, in our opinion, is not worthy of a return. The caesar salad was bland, my pizza was okay, husband's tuna was overcooked. This is the best restaurant on the South Shore. The embiance is great. It is located in a restored old train station in Kingston. I am from Kingston and have always been dissappointed by mediocre surburban dinner. This is a great place to take clients, friends or a date. Best restaurant on the South Shore (maybe except for Tosca). I was wowed by the food. I don't think I actually spoke a word through dinner. It was more yum and MMMMMMM through every course. The menu was impressive and the ambiance was lovely. Great for a date night or even a larger party. One thing is a must- dessert. The chocolate sampler was fantastic. I was very impressed with the food here. For a starter i shared the pumpkin ravioli. They tasted like heavenly pumpkin pillows! So good! for my entree i got the flat iron steak special. It was quite tasty, served with spinach and a Parmesan mash, which was unbelievable! The decor was very nice and the bar area looked very cozy. New Years Eve dinner. First time. Nice atmosphere. Waitstaff very blah with zero personality from hostess to busboy. We ordered the prime rib plate for two. $60. We ordered mashed potatoes. and what we didn't know was that the prime rib for two was just a plate of prime rib. No veggies, no salad, no sides at all. The mashed potatoes were a separate charge. $7 per side. No veggies. guess we had to order them separately. the food was tasty but the meat had way too much fatty pieces and the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The problem is, a slab of meat on a plate for $60 no sides seems extremely high and does not make a meal. if I wanted a Cafeteria style meal, I would go to a cafeteria. incredibly disappointed since many people rave about the place. they must be friends and family. read more

Second time here and it did not disappoint. Great waiter who's been there for 11 years. He recommended a great red wine for dinner...an Argentine Malbec that was wonderful. Appetizers and dinner for our party of 4 consisted of pear salad, lobster tempura (special), oysters, pork chop to die for, ahi tuna, scallops and calamari. Solstice's train station location is unique and their food on par with anything you'd find in lower Cape or up in Boston, if you're looking for some place special to celebrate or have a fine dining experience. Their offerings are unique, delicious and we love going there for a special occasion. Because of their location they seem to get a lot of the snobby Duxbury crowd and hence, the staff tends to reflect this on multiple occasions. It's not so much an attitude that you might get in Boston, so much as subtle snobbery regarding children. This is the only knock I'd give since their food is fantastic, atmosphere perfect for celebrations or a night out without the kidlins. read more

Absolutely one of the best paces to eat on the South Shore. I enjoy dining out and Solstice is always at the top of my list for preferred places. They have a very warm and inviting upscale dining restaurant in an old train stop building. I have never had a bad meal there and the chef is always changing up the specials. If you don't stuff yourself for dinner try their desserts they are always some of the best I've had. Keep up the great service and food! read more

The lighting was too dim, and the service was mediocre. I would not recommend this restaurant. The $12. salad of only field greens arrived almost dry and we had to ask for more dressing, but not much more was given. Everything was à la carte and a little pretentious for a restaurant so far south of Boston. The filet and NY sirloin were worth the trip, but nothing else was. There were six of us for a birthday celebration. Our drinks, salads and main entrees ( mostly steaks) were delivered efficiently. However, the sides, including French fries and vegetables, were not delivered to the table until the steaks were almost devoured! I got a Solstice gift card for my graduation and loved the online menu! Unfortunately the menu there was much smaller and didn't have the item I saw online, and wanted. First off the atmosphere was very nice, and the waitstaff was wonderful as well. To begin our meal, my husband and I ordered the Mongo Ribs, they were very good!! I normally get frustrated eating ribs but, the meat fell off the bone and it was perfect. For my main entree I got the Ribeye steak done medium, it was cooked perfectly and was very tastey. I normally can't eat a lot of steak but I was able to eat most of this very large piece (my husband did not mind finishing it!) For his meal he got the Scollops, he liked his meal which also consisted of risotto, the scollops were cooked to perfection but the risotto could have had a little more flavor. For dessert, I ordered the Creme Brulee (my specialty!) It was very good, not the BEST that I have had but I am still waiting for someone to top Bon Fire's creme brulee. For those of you with children, they do not even have high chairs so I don't recomment bringing your child. I took my two year old and was lucky that he sat in a "big boy" chair through our dinner. I highly recomment this for a date night, its a cozy place with good food and even better service. ps. Bring a jacket! It was quite chilly inside! :-) read more

This is a great place. It's not cheap, but it's the best place I've found on the South Shore. They have a great variety and really good specials. I've been there about 5-6 times now and they've been great every time. I highly recommend the chicken under a brick and the carpaccio appetizer. The only thing I would like to see is a bigger bar. We went early on a Sat for a family b-day and loved it. No wait as we went on early side (no reservations for parties under 6 on Sat). Elegant but not prentenious (many South of Boston resatuants in the'burbs try to be upscale and come off as trying too hard) But this place doesn;t. Cutting straight to chase as I'm fairly sure this restaurant could care less about service. Went to Solstice around 9pm, seated no problem, server was rude. In any case, food mediocre at best...bolognese certainly overcooked. Chicken on a brick...I'd rather have the brick....but gawd forbid you ask for black pepper on your brick. Suggest commuting to another town that can offer a fine dining experience, this is only local option, and is amateur at best. Move on.... read more

Wow! Food, atmosphere, staff - all extraordinary. Appetizers (vegetable spring rolls) were out of this world delicious, as was my steak filet which was cooked to perfection and so soft and tasty. Our waiter, Oakley, was great. Attentive and exceptionally friendly. The restaurant itself is an historic train station dating back to 1864 (with a beautiful, old original fireplace. My wife and I had dinner with another couple. From reviews and comments from others, we expected a great time and we received it. We ate on Saturday night, around 6pm. No wait for a table (but it was packed at 8 when we left). Innovative appetizers - a trio of sliders, including one of Kobe beef and one of lamb, was really great. The crab cake was excellent. Two of us had the rack of lamb special which was also great. Baked cod was excellent. The service was professional and tendered by happy staff. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of service and food provided. Lots of dishes we couldn't try on this trip. We'll be back. Note: Reservations for groups of 6 or more. read more

If i were to pick my last meal and it had to be a "fancy " restaurant this place would be it. Atmosphere is some of the best in the biz. Waiters are always professional, (that's right i said professional) kind , attentive, and sometimes funny after you break the ice and they have indentured themselves to you for almost an hour. Not impressed with this place. It feels warm and welcome, but city quality, it is not (its an old train station)........ Waiting 20 minutes for a table (with a reservation) wasn't so bad, but after spending $150 on dinner, and still being hungry after (portions have shrunk there), the wait became a problem in retrospect. One special was supposed to come with asparagus. The steak was supposed to come on a bed of greens... The 20 min wait allowed us to have a couple drinks before our table was ready, and that's probably why I didn't notice the vegetables being missing until I got to my car after to leave. The service was not impressive, The waiter was good as far as the specials, taking the order, etc. but he was not so friendly. The bus boy TWICE tried to clear our oysters with one left. And then they tried clearing the steak before we were done. The busboys were kids, vs in Boston at the true high end places, the bus people are aspiring servers. These are the things that justify whether a place can or CANT charge city prices. We wont go back, and if you are looking to get a fine meal without leaving the south shore and still being hungry after you spend $150 - look to Scarlet Oak in Hingham, San Pietro in Norwell. read more

The food was awesome! Had the beef carpaccio and spicy lamb meatballs for appetizers. For dinner we had filet with truffle fries and cauliflower augratin. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the food was outstanding. However the service was definitely not great. The older gentlemen that waited on us was not attentive and it took 20 minutes for our first round of drinks to get to table because he had forgotten about them. Bread and apps were serviced before they came. He only had 3 other tables but it just seemed he was overwhelmed. Will be back but prob eat at bar for better service! read more

For an area of the South Shore that is lacking in fine dining options, Solstice is a decent filler. I have been to Solstice a few times and I find that the service and food can be very, very spotty. I certainly have never had a bad dining experience there, but I also have never had a truly memorable one. I've heard the bar is the better place to be, and perhaps that is why this place remains so popular. It is not one of my highly recommended places, but like I said, there are not many other fine dining options in the Kingston/Duxbury area. To that point, the 3 star rating is just about right. Willing to take another shot since nothing was terrible but I have not had the urge to return. If you want a more reliable choice, I would recommend heading north either to Tosca or Scarlet Oak in Hingham, both have comparable ambiance and better execution of menu items. read more

We have been to Solstice five times in the last 6 months. The menu is creative, the food is plated beautifully and dessert is to die for. That carrot cake is AMAZING!!!! We've had one or two apps that were just "ok" but overall it is pretty good. I will agree with a previous poster that the servers/bartenders are a bit "snooty". One can be professional without being so pretentious. The decor is up to date, dimly lit (which I love) while being inviting at the same time. So my friend wanted to take me out for a special dinner, and he chose Solstice because of it's location is about half way between our residences, and the menu looked very enticing. Where to begin, I arrived my typical 20 minutes early, so I sidled up to the bar where upon I met Craig a splendid mixologist professional. He made a fantastic Tito's vodka and tonic not too strong not too weak it was"just right". After making small talk with other patrons, when my friend arrived we chose to dine at the bar. I saw the others meals being served and I opted for what looked good to me, which was the filet mignon cooked medium and it was perfectly cooked, and the roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta they were incredible! My friend had the tuna Tartare and baked cauliflower with gorgonzola both of which were also awesome. Then we finished those incredible dishes with home made butterscotch pudding accompanied by fresh hot donut holes rolled in cinnamon and sugar, and my friend had espresso creme brulee with chocolate covered coffee beans. I'm a person who comes from a family where food is about quality ingredients, tastefully prepared, and able portions. Solstice exceeded my expectations and this is a true gem, the quality and caliber I'd expect in NYC, Palm Beach, or Boston, cities where you work for your clientele. It is not an inexpensive place to dine, however in my opinion it's worth it. In regards to atmosphere is spot on, not too bright, not so dark that you can't see your food. Easily considered romantic, I wouldn't recommend small children. Casual to formal attire is appropriate. Solstice is a happy place! read more

We decided to try Solstice this past Saturday night. We had a group of six. The restaurant was quiet for a Saturday night but it was also a Holliday weekend. We started with The pork belly served on a steamed bun and some salads and both were 4 stars. Then the dinner arrived. I had the duck breast which came with a breast that was sliced and a leg left whole on the plate. It was plated with a sauce of puréed squash. The duck was one of the worst I have had and I have eaten all over the world. It was served rare which didn't bother me but the skin and underlying fat layer were never rendered and it was soggy and fatty and rare and also tough tough. The sugar peas were over cooked an mushy. Two other people had the salmon and they both said it was very fishy and old tasting. Probably farm raised and frozen. Two other people had the fillet of beef and enjoyed it. The last person ordered the ny strip and said it was very tough. The consensus was that the food was sub par at any price and we will not be be back. Also I forgot to mention that two of the woman had signature drinks basil infused vodka martinis that were undrinkable. read more

The Plymouth-Kingston area has been starving for a casual place with a creative, higher end menu. Finally found it! Solstice is consistent in quality and service. One of the best restaurants in Plymouth-Kingston area. (That last sentence really isn't saying much, as Plymouth is plagued by a slew of really bad to mediocre restaurants that seem to rely on the turnover of the tourist population). Locals finally have a place they can rely on. 5 stars is really tough to achieve in my book, so for local, consistently good and creative cuisine, check out Solstice. read more
