Sol's is fantastic. Used them for the first time today. Sol and his colleague showed up on time and they were very courteous and thorough. And the pricing was great. I will definitely use Sol's again. In fact, I made an annually recurring calendar reminder to reach out to them every spring to get our chimney cleaned. read more

I recently used Sols Chimney Sweep for a large job. Sol came over and gave me a fair estimate & explained everything. When his brother Gary & his assistant arrived to do the work, they were very professional & worked 7 hrs straight. Greg also explained what the job would involve in detail. They left the worksite spotless. I would highly recommend this great family-owned business. read more

Great company. They really did a great service!! Employees really care !! The prices were reasonable and fast service.

They go the extra mile... After a new water heater had been installed by a plumbing company, we were told that we were in danger of a carbon monoxide leak. The danger was due to several problems: including wrong sized vent pipes from water heater and furnace that lead to the clogged terracotta lined chimney. Greg and Gary came to give us a free estimate explained exactly what was going wrong, pulling out debris from chimney and showing us chimney tuckpointing base was damaged. After carefully looking at all the issues that needed fixing, Gary said that he was going to replace and refit the pipe that was causing the possible carbon monoxide leak FREE OF CHARGE! Sure enough, he and Greg took new pipe from their truck and spend almost 1/2 hr. replacing old pipe. He said he was worried for our safety. After that, he wrote a very fair, competitive estimate for the aluminum liner and rest of the pipe replacement and chimney sealing. (No hidden fee for the free work he had just done). There was absolutly NO PRESSURE to commit to using Sols for the job. We have not hired them yet because we had already made an appointment to get an estimate from a different company, but I cant imagine anyone being more helpful, considerate, conscientious. Thank you Greg and Gary (UPDATE - Greg was the person who decided to do the FREE pipe replacement for us, and Greg wrote the estimate. read more

We had a really tremendous experience with Sol's. The gas company turned off our furnace and water heater because of carbon monoxide and told us our chimney was the problem. We booked Sol for chimney cleaning, and he came on his day off when he heard we didn't have heat. He quickly diagnosed that we didn't need a cleaning but rather a larger chimney liner, and they were able to install it for us the next day and turn our furnace and water heater back on. I really couldn't be happier with their expertise and service! read more

Sol was a lifesaver. We reached out to him because our water heater's exhaust path was blocked by a poorly repaired chimney. Sol came to our home on the same day that we called. He explained the problem and implemented the repair immediately. I will definitely be reaching out to him for help maintaining the two chimneys that are original to our home, but no longer in use for exhaust. read more

Our carbon monoxide detector went off in the middle of the night and we found out that our chimney flue was totally blocked. I called Sol's in the morning and left a message, hoping they could fix the problem quickly. They called back within a few hours and were able to come and clear out our flue on the same day. They were super kind and professional, even when dealing with the unexpected squirrels that had taken up residence in our chimney! On top of the quick response and fix, they quoted us for the further work that needs to be completed on our chimney in order to prevent this from happening in the future. They never once pressured us to set any further work up on the spot, and also advised us on what to request if we were gathering quotes from other contractors for this project to compare. 100% happy with our experience, definitely would recommend them if you're looking! read more

We had Sol's come clean our dryer vent and refurbish our gas fire place in two different visits. Both the dryer vent and fire place had not been cleaned since we moved into our unit 3 years ago. Overall very pleased with the service and the team's professionalism. Gary patiently answered all my questions and made sure everything looked fine and was working properly! I spoke to Greg a couple of times to schedule the visits and the scheduling experience was quite hassle-free. It's no wonder that these guys have five stars on Yelp! Highly recommend! read more

I was referred to Sol's from my HVAC company when they informed me it was a Chimney issue and would not be able to fix it. When I called Sol, I received a quick response and follow up of when they would be willing to check my chimney. Not only did they provide a thorough assessment, but were able to fix the problem same day. Very friendly and easy to talk to, and I have a better understanding of what happened. Will definitely be using them for any future issues/concerns I have. read more

This company came out to our home today to sweep our chimneys and while here decided to help with a dryer vent issues we have been having (previous company we used couldn't get the job done). Sol and his brother are AMAZING! Not only is our chimney squeaky clean but our dryer finally works and all the lint has been cleaned out- refer to pictures- they definitely get the job done! They were very professional and definitely experts in these areas! I highly highly recommend using them (and this is coming from someone who has never left a yelp review before). Thank you so much Sol! read more

Sol was so professional - answered my original enquiry promptly. Responded to my following questions as well. He confirmed appointment and was on time. Kept work area protected and was very neat and organized. Paid attention to the details and worked hard to get my damper repaired! Job well done! Better call Sol for your chimney sweep and inspection!! read more

Summary- responsive, on-time, direct, and knowledgeable. Sol's Chimney Sweep takes pride in their craftsmanship and customer service. ----- I was looking to install a chimney cap after a recent squirrel issue- it fell down the flue, was trapped in the exhaust vents for my water heater and furnace, and took a couple (of stressful) days to get it out. Sol's Chimney Sweep was quick to respond for an estimate request, and offered fair pricing for the job. After scheduling an appointment, they called a day prior to confirm the appointment; and on the day of, they called when on their way and arrived on-time. They asked some follow-up questions about the work requested, and then did a great job explaining what they were going to do when installing the chimney cap. While installing, they discovered a structural issue with the chimney crown and the surrounding tile- it wasn't flush together and left a gap between the 2 sections (basically a small space prime for animals to nest in). After coming back down from the roof to show pictures and explain, they offered to seal off the gap. This part of the appointment shows that they take pride in their craft and want to ensure they do things the "right" way; whereas other companies may do what they came to do, and move onto the next job. As they were wrapping up, they took more pictures to show the before/after of the work completed. This is obviously important as I have no business climbing/being on my roof (2 stories up). Overall a good experience and would give Sol's Chimney Sweep my future business. read more

Great company to deal with. Very responsive on initial quote and scheduling work . Terrific guys that did the work , very informative. Definitely will use in the future ! read more

Greg and Rick did a wonderful job cleaning out out fireplace/chimney and our dryer vents. Both were very dirty. The fireplace had a small crack which they were able to repair on the spot. The grate was cleaned and repainted. The glass doors were left gleaming. They took great care to keep the mess at a minimum and cleaned up all areas before they left. Very pleased and will have them come back next year for our annual cleaning. read more

We had Sol's Chimney Sweep out for a fireplace cleaning and inspection on a older house we recently moved into. The team called my cell when they arrived and I said that my wife would let them in, but also pointed out that I think our log starter was corroded and to let me know what replacement would run cost wise (as I already was pricing out replacements online). The cleaning was great and they cleaned up well. Afterwards, they called and left me a voicemail to talk about the replacement log starter. However, before I had a chance to return the call, they told my wife that I authorized the replacement and it would be an incremental $150 so she said ok. The replacement log starter is a $15 piece and is a 3 minute install so no way I would have agreed to that. I understand service charges and minimums but thought this would dovetail into the cleaning and would never had agreed to the fee, nor would my wife had she not been misinformed by the team that I requested the install. By the time I caught wind of this from my wife it was too late and they were already gone. read more

I would give Sol's 10 stars if I could! We had a carbon monoxide leak detected on a Friday. I called multiple companies, who all said that they could schedule me in at the end of October or early November. But then I called Sol's & they immediately responded to my call. Sol generously offered to see me that Sunday- his day off! He came in and carefully inspected the ducts, furnace and chimney. After doing a chimney sweep- our carbon monoxide problem was swept away as well! Customer service is extraordinary and so is their work. I was so impressed that I'm going to have Sol return on a regular basis to take care of all of our furnace & chimney needs. Use Sol's- they're top notch! read more

I am not one who offers random gushing praise, but holy crap, these folks could not have been more helpful. I called at 8:20 a.m. after having my carbon monoxide alarm go off. I called House of Heat in Oak Park, after being lightly abused by their disinterested phone person who spent the call telling me what they wouldn't do (answer - much of anything), I turned to google. I found Sol's, they have great reviews, you have to start somewhere. Answered on the second ring, talked to the a nice gentleman who I am guessing was the owner. He was honest about his timing today, but then called one of his partners/workers to check their availability. Called my back 5 minutes later. Talked to him (his brother I believe) he was here by 9:00, polite, quick, no mess, they cleared the blockage, removed a faulty cap, installed a new cap with a lifetime guarantee, and were out by 9:35 a.m. House of Heat said that unless I wanted to pay emergency overtime rates they could get someone in Thursday. Sol's in an out within the hour. Now I can't imagine that every job is done this quickly I suspect I got lucky and they went out of their way knowing my situation was dangerous and needed emergency help, but I can assure you they will be responsive and will provide service quickly and expertly. When you turn to Yelp to find a contractor or service provider for something you don't know anything about, I suspect you, as I, do it with concern, are the reviews honest, will I get what I pay for, and so on. They could have tried to sell me extra things and services, I have no idea what I did and didn't need and they did not. Instead they explained every step of the process, offered suggestions and explained what they would do, did exactly what they said they would do, gave me a discount for getting the cap along with the cleaning, were polite and professional, you can't ask for more than that. I highly recommend them. read more

After purchasing a new home, our inspector told us we needed to get our chimneys cleaned as soon as possible. Sol's team was booked for cleanings out a week but when they came they were prompt (even a little earlier than the window provided!) They had a heavy job ahead as it seems the previous owners did not care for the chimneys in our old home. They cleaned both chimneys and provided an estimate for all of the work that needed to be done. They left the area as clean as when they arrived which was a plus! Given we need a lot of work done, we are in the process of getting additional quotes and the next company that came in told us that Sol's team did an amazing job cleaning - it was the first thing out of his mouth! read more

Sol himself cleaned our chimney today. Sol called a half hour before arrival and showed up on time at exact time we originally scheduled. Professional, personable, and a very good cleaning of the chimney. I can now see the color of the bricks inside the fireplace. He even took out the damper and cleaned it! The over and above service we used to get in the 90s and before that seems so rare today is alive and well with Sol's Chimney Sweep. Call Sol. Thank you Sol! read more

I appreciate that Sol gave me a detailed quote on the spot to replace our rusted out chimney liner, the crew showed up when they said they would, did exactly what he said they would do, and actually did more than I even expected -- they installed shiny new exhaust pipes for both my hot water heater and furnace, and fixed a venting problem that I hadn't realized existed. They also cleaned everything, like polished the furnace and hot water heater and vacuumed the whole area in the basement -- left it so much cleaner than it was when they found it. I absolutely recommend them. read more

I'm one of those people that never writes reviews, and let's face it, it's not like these guys need more 5-star reviews lol BUT they deserve each and and every one of those! We've used them for years, and will continue for as long as they want to stay in business. They're always on time, honest and reasonably priced. On top of all that, they're super nice guys. We used our fireplace the night before our scheduled sweeping. They showed up for nothing, since the chimney was too hot and they couldn't do their job. Mind you this was during the snow storm. We felt so bad, but these guys were so nice about it, and didn't make a big deal out of it (even though I wouldn't blamed them if they did). They get busy so make your appointments ahead of time. read more

Walter was efficient, happy, and very knowlegable. He even sang Chim chim chimney ...from Mary Poppins former!

Use Sol's for the first time after reading reviews. Their team was on time (even 10 min early)and cleaned up after themselves once the job was completed. They made a world of difference for our fireplace & I'd use them again. read more

This company is good. I've seen their company truck in a couple of pricey neighborhoods in the area. Sol's called one day prior to the appointment to confirm it.. They arrived promptly this morning . I have a couple of fireplaces in an older house in the Jackson Park/South Shore area. The deep cleaning and care given to my main room fireplace was thorough. The entire firebox, including the iron damper and fluer d' Lily cast iron fireback was scrubbed clean. The two gentlemen worked together overcoming the challenges of a few hard winters of my heavy use and firewood burning. Their cleaning exposed some unknown and neglected areas of repair and maintenance to the fireplaces. Because of their fine work I will be calling them back for the repairs before next winter for sure. I highly recommend Sol's Chimney to you for chimney maintenance work. read more

Very good and fair price, although very busy so plan well ahead if you want service in the fall or winter.

Awesome work. So happy with the fixes that they made to my fireplace - specifically the propane tube that feeds in. The old one was corroding so they not only out in a way better tube but gave me some recommendations on log holder and pre-heating before throwing on logs. read more

I had a really odd experience with these folks. I'd been talking to my landlord (with whom I have an excellent relationship, and who's always good about getting maintenance done) about getting the chimney cleaned, and he said he'd been playing phone tag with a company who only had one opening, around noon on Wednesday. He (the landlord) wasn't available to be here, and would my husband or I be around? I assured him I would be. A few days later, my landlord texts me to say he finally got the chimney guys on the phone, they had booked the Wednesday slot with someone else and were booked solid through the end of the year, so he was going to call elsewhere. Imagine my surprise, therefore, when two guys bearing a Sol's Chimney Sweep business card showed up at 9:00 AM Wednesday - my husband and I both work evenings this month and were still asleep! (In all fairness, they tried to call ahead, but I turn my phone off when I'm sleeping, so it didn't help.) I apologized for keeping them waiting and told them the landlord hadn't mentioned they were coming; they weren't rude, exactly, but were a bit brusque. They got set up and were about to start when one of the guys told me they hadn't worked out payment and needed to do so before they started. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised; I told them I thought the landlord was handling all of that. They asked for his number (??) and called him, but he wasn't available to pick up the phone; they then told me I'd have to pay the $225 cleaning fee or else they couldn't clean the chimney. Normally I'd have had no trouble paying and working it out with the landlord later - I'm in the service industry too, and I totally get what a hassle deadbeat customers are - but all the unknowns in the situation, combined with the guy's confrontational attitude, really put my hackles up. So I apologized again and asked that they leave. They did, but not before the one guy's phone rang, and he was equally brusque with the person on the other end, telling her that she needed to call another number and this was ridiculous, he didn't have a secretary to deal with this, etc. I later got in touch with my landlord, who confirmed that Sol's was the folks he'd been talking with, but he hadn't heard anything back from them after they informed him they were booked. So I don't know where along the line the wires got crossed, but I think it's pretty clear they need to get their administration in order. And a dose of professionalism wouldn't be a bad idea, either. read more

A family business that's friendly, responsive and reliable, with good workmanship at a fair price. Of three firms we contacted for an estimate, they were the most knowledgeable and their price was best. Unlike with the other firms, the person who came out to spec the job was not a salesman - he's the owner, and he was here working with the crew when they did the job. In the middle of their busiest season, they made a special trip to immediately replace a dangerously deteriorated chimney cap. We made an appointment for them to do the less urgent repairs two months later. They returned when they said they would, completed the work within a few hours, and stuck to the original estimated cost. We would definitely use them again. read more

I was having furnace issues and the HVAC contractor told me it was due to a clogged exhaust vent and recommended I call up a chimney sweep. Found Sol's on Yelp. Called them up - they recommended how I could try and fix it on my own. I tried but didn't succeed, so called them back up and they came out the next day. They promptly identified and fixed the issue and charged less than what they had quoted me on the phone. read more

These guys are simply the best. They have put in a liner cleaned my chimney 4 times. Unfortunately they just did a gas conversion so I no longer need to use them but they did an outstanding job. It took me fifteen minutes of looking in the basement for the gas line that runs to the fireplace. The work was that neat and inconspicuous. The final kicker is that they sent one of their guys out to get a card because the noticed that our dog was missing because we had to put her down so they got us sympathy card. Use Sol's because we no longer have to. They could not be any better a good family run business. read more

A Sol's representative came to my building to clean out our chimney on Monday. The chimney had not been cleaned in over 10 years. The rep was professional, efficient and neat. No mess was left, and the job was done quickly. A few issues were found, and recommendations were made to repair existing damage (we were given tips on how to do it ourselves). No annoying upselling. Cannot praise this company enough. I will hire Sol's again and highly recommend Sol's to anyone with a dirty chimney. read more

It is summer now and we wanted to have our chimney swept for the first time in 2 years. Numerous service firms were tied up or on vacation. Sol's responded quickly to our Evanston home. The service was exceptional. He did the basic chimney sweeping but also a general check-up with lots of pictures. Based on his pictures and insight we had fairly major fix up done to the whole chimney and fireplace. Why didn't our last three services do this for us. He came back 3 days later with his team to do the work. The price was fair, the work necessary and as well as safety related, the fireplace looks almost new and we are ready for the fall season - we use it 40+ times a a season. We called Sol after a building inspection turned up the need for chimney repair. Sol and Greg identified the multiple issues with a great inspection and quote. They followed up promptly and addressed our needs: sweeping the chimney, stainless steel liner, new metal rain cap, creating new exhausts for our water heaters and furnace and sealing open areas. They gave great service and were patience as we paid our balance. They extracted about 30 pounds of soot and debris from our building's chimney--it may never have been sweep in over 100 years. I recommend them highly. Thanks Sol, Greg and team! read more
