In early March 2023 contacted Phillips Norelco Corp to get a Norelco shaver #4604x repaired. Norelco provided info on business that does repairs. We mailed the shaver to Solomon's in Brooklyn NY on 3/20/23 with a $25 M.O. to evaluate. Have called the store many many times - talked to Phil & Bruce who confirmed receipt of my Norelco shaver and money order. It has been over two years & repairs still not made. Mailed another M.O. $102.00 which was received & already cashed per Phil. They have been making excuses about why it's taken so long to repair, over two years! Unacceptable. Have shared this negative experience directly with PHILIPS NORELCO & on social media. Do NOT recommend this repair store to anyone mailing items for repair. If you need a Kitchenaid stand mixer repaired, I highly recommend Solomon's. As long as you can get to Bensonhurst with your machine, it's a cheaper and much faster option than sending it in to Kitchenaid. Solomon's Appliance was recommended on the Kitchenaid website as the authorized repair person for NYC, so I took in my mixer and within a week it was ready for me to pick up. Solomon gave me a diagnosis and (fair) repair quote over the phone before doing the work, and the final charge actually ended up being less expensive than his quote. The machine works like new now for a fraction of what it would cost to buy a new one. Solomon is great at communicating and runs his business with integrity, relying on his reputation for good quality work. This shop is a rare gem. read more

I wanted to get a simple repair done: the battery replacement for my electric shaver. To that end, I've called this place regularly for at least the past 2 years and each time the same person who picked up the phone said: "We are very backed up now (because of COVID). Give us a call back in 3-4 months." On and on it went: I called four or five times and was repeatedly told the same old spiel..."Very backed up now. Call back in 3-4 months". Do not expect Genius Bar: The space is old school and so is Bruce, who answers the phone and runs the counter. His ornery shtick is all in the interest of avoiding misunderstandings and preventing dissatisfied customers. It took a couple of weeks for parts to arrive and the repair cost more than I had hoped, but the mixer runs like a dream and a new one would've cost more, worked less well, and created unnecessary waste. I brought my daughter, who is a little more than half as old as the mixer and the person who uses it the most, and she learned a lot and keeps quoting Bruce. i brought my BISSELL vacuum to this shop for repair within the date of my warranty. I was told there was a delay in parts and repair personnel due to the pandemic. This was fine by me and I was willing to wait so long as my machine was covered under warranty and the owner ensured that with the right paperwork that he would submit everything with the company. He most certainly did not do this and when I called back month after month I was told there was still a delay. After many more months I was told that he could not fix the machine because he could not get the part delivered and I would be placed on a list for a replacement. After a year, the owner told me the delay was on BISSELL's end. I finally reached out to BISSELL to inquire and was told they had no record of my machine and that it was an issue I should handled with the owner. Now after three years of nonsense, the owner never once called me to update me on anything, always told me it's not his fault but that he did file the paperwork, being told that in fact he did not by BISSELL over and over, and the owner promising me I would get a replacement or they would just give me my machine and need time to get back to me, I have officially realized that I was taken advantage of and swindled. The owner of this business stole my vacuum which was perfectly good and only required a simple part replacement. one can on guess as to what he did with my machine. BISSELL tells me there is nothing else they can do and that he is no longer a service provider for them. This business and its owner is a fraud and they will find a way to trick you and steal from you. I would never trust this shop ever! read more

I have a KitchenAid standing mixer that is approximately 15 years old. One day I was no longer able to attach the beating paddle to it. KitchenAid offered to sell me a refurbished one because they said they no longer made this model or carried replacement parts. As a last resort before spending a lot of money for a "not-new" mixer I drove to have Solomon's take a look at it. Immediately upon looking at it he correctly diagnosed that the issue was the paddle and not the actual mixer. Yay! He didn't have the exact paddle I wanted in stock; when I offered do a to pre-order he suggested I purchase it online. I would have it sooner and the price would be the same. He explained that my mixer had a strong motor and was worth keeping. I love that he was honest, helpful, and friendly. It was worth the schlep from Plainview to Brooklyn to not throw it out and unnecessarily buy a new one. i would highly recommend others who have well-made and loved countertop appliances to check Solomon's Appliance Repair before tossing them in the trash. read more

Several months ago, the fan blade in my Vornado vintage model V Fan began contacting the fan's metal housing. The noise was awful. We removed the grill and tried to adjust the blade but had no luck. We talked about chucking the fan, but the motor was still strong. This is where Bruce came to the rescue. The guy spent 10 minutes explaining how he charges a $15 non-refundable deposit to examine what they can do about repair, parts and labor. We've had a KitchenAid stand mixer for 11 years or so. But lately it sometimes doesn't turn on, sometimes doesn't change speed, and then (the most concerning) sometimes doesn't turn off. So it was repair time! Well, kitchenaid will tell you where the authorized repair shops are, and the one near us was Solomon's. I called ahead, and they were like "yeah, we're here every weekday, just come on over". It's $50 for a diagnostic and the whole repair was ~$200 (diagnostic fee gets rolled in if you do it). Cash only. I don't remember the names of all the electronics they said had to get swapped out, but they were like "it'll be like a brand new mixer" and yeah, that's exactly how it went! read more

I sent a Norelco razor to Solomon(Barry the owner) in July of 2019. He assured me he could fix the issue and return it if I paid him $167.00 for parts and labor. As of today, August 8th, with hundreds of excuses, from Covid-19, to can't get parts, to employees leaving, to personal family issues he still hasn't fixed it. Currently in June he was supposed to return it, Unfixed with a refund but still keeps dodging my calls and questions. He's a fraud, a liar, a cheat and totally unprofessional individual. My skin is still crawling from handing over my KitchenAid blender and then not being able to get it back when I couldn't draw cash for the repair in the neighborhood so I just left it there - I'd rather buy a new one than deal with a person this unhinged. Our Kitchenaid Stand Mixer broke. My wife did some research/called Kitchenaid and Solomon's was the only one nearby. The store is right out of old New York, from the signage, the way business was conducted (god help you if you lose your physical receipt, cash only, no digital communication, etc.) to the proprietor, Bruce, himself. Look, some people have complained about Bruce and if you don't "get him" or think he was being rude, I don't think you know what an old-school New Yorker is truly like. Yes, he talks a lot. Yes, he thinks he knows better (I'm sorry, but after repairing small appliances for so long, I trust that he does). Yes, he has no patience for customers who think their Google searches have made them the expert on what is uniquely wrong with their appliance. Yes, he's got an attitude and a personality that is warm (if you take it that way) but not cuddly but it's genuine and I found it entertaining. He told my wife she was doing almost everything wrong when using the stand mixer and now we know better. The process was painless. We went in, and, after lots of talking, we left. He took $50 for diagnostics that could be used towards the repair if we went that route. He told us that before attempting to fix the mixer, he'd call us, let us know what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix, and we could decide to fix it or pick it back up. A week later, he did just that. The repair price seemed reasonable and based on our amateur internet research (which Bruce hates), what we thought was broken was the main culprit in the stand mixer not working. A week later, it was ready and good as new. Small businesses were struggling even before the Pandemic. It's only gotten worse, just look at all the vacant space around New York City. Not only did I feel good about supporting one, but also I am completely satisfied with the outcome. In our increasingly disposable culture, it's nice to be able to repair something instead of sending it to a landfill And you know what? When my wife went to pick up the mixer, he remembered that I was starting a new job. Twice, in their 20+ minute conversation, he told her to make sure she told me that he wished me good luck. If I can give 0 stars, I would. PLEASE PLEASEEE DO NOT GO HERE! I cannot explain the strange (and creepy) energy this owner gives off, he's weird and says things in a passive-aggressive way. Let's just say his customer service skills is a -10/10. He pretends he wants to help you but just wants to take your money and things just don't get fixed. I came in to get my Kitchenaid Mixer repaired and the owner first gave me a whole story on how I should fix it with him and not buy a new one. He originally quoted me one price when I left it, then when I went to pick it up, was a different price. I guess this is my fault for not having him write the price down on the receipt, after I put down a $50 deposit for him to take a "look". Secondly, when I went back (didn't have my receipt) to try to get it fixed because it broke again after 2 times, he begins to tell me it may be another problem. I paid over $200 to get this fixed and for that price, you better damn check every single part of this machine, inside and out! I should have bought a new one, as I still have a broken Kitchenaid mixer in my hands and regret going to Solomon's everytime I think about it. This place just gives me bad juju vibes from the start and I should have listened to my gut. He doesn't have any records of a receipt and if you lose your receipt, you lose. This is 2017, I'd hope that businesses would at least keep a index card or something on file of their customer's orders. My Waring Pro blender broke a few months back and this old school shop was the recommended place to go by the company. It was a far drive from my house, but boy am I glad that I made the trip. These guys are absolute pro's and, along with great service, comes hilarious conversation. The guy at the front desk, Bruce, is quite the pisser. I could have honestly stood there for hours as he did his little stand up schtick while explaining to me how to use my blender properly so that it didn't break again. It took them about a week to get the new part and repair my blender. They even got my warranty to cover it so I didn't have to pay a dime. I had an amazing experience and will definitely be back for future repairs and to shop. They have great quality merchandise at competitive prices or cheaper than the department stores and Bed Bath. I did a google search, and this was the first place i found that worked on small appliances. Dishonest. Apparently, Dyson used to use them as a repair shop. They are no longer certified nor licensed to do Dyson repairs. They neglete3d to inform us. Instead, they kept our vacuums for two years, with the explanation that the parts weren't available. They love to collect the 35.00 deposit, and feed misinformation. When I dug into it, I found they lost the right to fix Dyson, and I was able to retrieve my vacuums, once I made an appointment and he was able to get them out of storage. A pure slice of old-school Brooklyn attitudinal charm, the folks at Solomon's resurrected my kitchenaid mixer at a reasonable cost. They're extremely old school: wood paneled walls, cash only, no online anything, and above all don't lose your paper claim ticket! Also beware that they're a small operation and it might take them a few weeks to get around to your job: they were very clear about this when talking to me. They came recommended by Phillips for my Sonicare product. What a disappointment. It took them a month to diagnose that the toothbrush handle cannot be repaired and they can replace it with a similar one at a high cost. Since this item was discontinued and I really liked it, I went ahead and paid it. Two weeks later and no replacement, then I get a call saying the package was lost. They will be sending a replacement but now I have no confidence that I will ever get this back and am out $100. So much for supporting small businesses. What a major disappointment. I came to the store with a broken vacuum and the cranky old guy who runs the place was extremely rude, asking "are you in a rush??" when I looked at my phone for two seconds to check the time, since I was taking a break from work to go there. The guy basically admitted he doesn't know how to fix anything and pays his workers to do it for him, but none of the workers were there so he couldn't help me. Instead of offering to fix the problem, he sold me a $5 band that immediately broke because he hadn't bothered to notice the sharp plastic inside that broke the band. I finally received my shaver just after Christmas. Shaver works OK, but would not say better than new. It was repair using only genuine parts, no Chinese junk, so that is a plus. The time it took is still unacceptable in this world of "right now", but at least I have it back.
