Skied here for the first time this past week and enjoyed the experience of skiing some of Solitude's runs. The longest I waited for a lift that day was a couple of minutes. Granted it was a weekday, but I still appreciate a super short line. The other thing I liked the day I skied was the beer. They had quite a selection and the price per can ($6) was relatively reasonable (at least compared to other areas I have skied out of state in the past). I agree with other reviewers that this mountain is more designed for intermediate and advanced skiers, which works for me (but could be a problem for others). With all that stated, there were some things I noticed that definitely make Solitude a place that has a lot of room for improvement. First, they were advertising a buffet on a sign that was visible when I got off a few of the lifts. When I arrived at the wrong lodge by mistake and I asked an employee where this buffet was, they seemed to have no idea (nor did they express any interest in finding out). Later in the day, I decided to stop at the lodge next to the parking lot. I had gotten really tired and just needed some coffee. All of the coffee (and yes I mean ALL of the coffee) was out. After I had to settle for an alternative beverage, I decided to use the restroom. There were only 3 stalls in the bathroom next to the bar, which made for a long line. Finally, it stinks that you now have to pay for parking. If you get there early enough, the location of the parking is great, but $20 a day or $150 (which I paid) for the season kind of stinks. In sum, I'm willing to give this place another go but I'm a little disappointed that the unlimited resort on the Ikon pass is this location and not some other place here in Utah. read more

It has a decent number of runs, but they aren't as groomed as runs at other resorts. You also have to pay for parking. A big benefit is that the parking is very close to one of the main lifts. You also have the ability to ski right back to your car (if you remember where your car is). Breakfast is cheap. There are some parts where you can get stuck if you're on a snowboard (and sometimes you can even get stuck on skis). A benefit is you can ski to and from Brighton. It is easier to get to Brighton than to get back from Brighton as the run back is pretty flat. read more

I'm giving the resort 3 stars as I am advanced skier and thought it was great however my nephew is a newbie and had a lil lore difficult time as there was not many runs for him to do. We did have a great time and enjoyed the gorgeous weather and scenery around us. read more

After an amazing storm I expected an epic day of skiing. I think the new management may have cut corners in the wrong place. The ticket price is high. The grooming of the mountain was horrible. The terrain report was less than accurate. Groomed runs that had not been groomed in days. Hmm very liberal interpretation of the term. With the new management I hope that next season they will figured it out and we will see what they have to offer. Until then looks like Brighton. read more

Solitude is my very first 1 star mountain. I've ridden all over the west and I'm actually sad that I'm doing this, but Solitude earned it in spades. First off, it's not all that big, especially compared to the other mountains in Cottonwood Canyon. It just rides small. Kinda the absolute inverse of Dodge Ridge in central California. The whole mountain was nothing but moguls. The "grooming", and I'm using that term loosely, was like the junior race teams were given a case of Jolt cola each and allowed to roam the mountain in the cats. Signage on the mountain is so-so, the lifties never raked the unload zones, I could go on and on and on. The worse thing is the park, which consisted of two rails, two mid-sized jumps, a rainbow box, and a 10' flat box. The park was completely neglected almost to the point of gross misconduct. The tranny's on the jumps were completely the wrong size for the jumps and the angles were off as well. I watched three people get absolutely bucked. The staff in the bars seemed annoyed by being busy. Service was good, but the mood and attitude of the staff was questionable. This is one place I'll NEVER be back to unless my free RFID pass is wrapped with a $100 bill. read more

This place is fantastic. While the terrain isn't as challenging as Snowbird or Alta in most parts, it's still a very fun mountain to ski. The best part about Solitude is the complete lack of crowds. We showed up the morning after a huge snow storm, expecting to see lines of cars waiting to pile into an already-full parking lot. What we actually saw, however, was a parking lot with about 30 cars in it. I've been a Snowbird diehard for years, but waiting in line to get on the lifts gets a little tiresome. I don't have to worry about that at Solitude. read more

This is a great alternative to Park City! It's very small, but there is nobody here. Solitude describes it perfectly. No lift lines at all. Great terrain variances. Good snow. Great people. Beautiful scenery and accommodations. Fair prices. It's a win all around! I will be back again. read more

This is a review of the Solitude Nordic area, specifically for snow shoeing. Firstly, there is a parking area ONLY for us with lots of openings and right at the nordic center. The rest of the downhill areas (Solitude, Brighton) are impossible to get in (full, and need to use a shuttle). The only drawback is we had to drive very slowly in the traffic to get to the nordic parking area. Secondly, the fees for snowshoeing are a teeny tiny $8 for all day. I think the experience is worth 4 or 5 times that much. We have our own equipment but rentals are just not expensive. Finally, the trails and area are just beautiful. We came on a Tuesday that about 2-4" new snow had fallen on about 4-5' base. To my surprise only about 4 or 5 other snow shoers were on the several miles of trail. We had much of the time in the woods to ourselves, with peace and quiet and beauty and just nature. Just epic. The trails were well marked and completely separate from the XC skiers. We did about 2.5 mi in about 1 hr 45 min down to the alpine lodge for good food. Going back uphill was not as hard as I thought and took about 2 hr. High recommendations for snow shoeing here, and my opinion is XC skiing seems about the same value at Solitude nordic area, very very good and worth way more than the small expenses!! read more

Went here on a whim, this place was recommend by a random local. Between deer valley and park city, we didn't hear anything about it and were skeptical. Expectation were low but let me tell you, this was by far the BEST resort of them all and we had it all to ourselves! There weren't trails because the mountains were all open so there were tons of tree lines if you're into that. Next time I'm in SLC, I'll spend all week at this place. read more

I accidentally discovered Solitude Mountain Resort last year on a business trip. SLC had just been dumped with several feet of snow and my business associates learning that I was a snowboarder and also learning that I had never ridden Utah encouraged me to take an extra day off and head to the parks. They recommended Solitude for it's easy access, great terrain and small crowds. This year's trip was timed to meet up with some close friends who's parents own a condo at the resort. I understand the snow in this part of Utah is consistent, and often as great as the several feet that have dropped over the past few days. Am I emotionally attached to the park due to some infatuation with a person or with some magical event? No. Both trips have resulted with: _ excellent, diverse terrain. _ no lift lines _ fast lifts to most spots _ easy going family or adult friendly resort _ east sub 1 hour, safe, gorgeous drive from SLC. This is the park for: _ beginners with diverse, safe, terrain _ intermediate folks who want to cruise around, thoroughly enjoy themselves but not fight off the aggro powder kids. No terrain parks, no gondolas, nothing fancy. Medium sized, great access, great setting and wide open. Oh, and need to upgrade, drive up the road a couple of miles to Brighton. [end] read more

The dude that put my binding on on my snowboard didn't lock it in. So after I got of the top of the lift my foot popped out. I was so furious cuz if I was boarding down the mountain, I would have been ka-put-sies. Most of the rental gear was Head...Old and really stinky. Conditions were not really ideal. I was more pissed about the douch that didn't lock in the bindings. I should have checked. For lunch at the main rest I got a burger. Went back to get a coke. Price board said 1.25. Dude said 1.50. I told him it says 1.25. He said that's with tax...then he proceeded to put the 1.50 in his pocket. WTF? Lifts were way too crowded. The conditions were horrible, all ice. So many ppl wiped out on the last run. I'll give it another shot next month when I do part deaux. read more

Great resort to kick off a fun early season ski vacation! The absence of crowds was a huge attraction and something we enjoyed, but I have to admit that it was almost eerie at times feeling like we were literally the only ones on the mountain. Considering the smaller size and "population," I was pleasantly surprised at the amenities - a convenient bar area, and decently sized cafe at the base met our needs perfectly. Love me some Solitude!!! We stayed 2 nights at the Inn and skied one day here. The room was fairly sparse but decent but we loved the surroundings including a fabulous hot tub to soak our sore joints, the spa, and the delish food we enjoyed. First of all, skiing at Solitude is great for all skill levels and they have big, wide open green runs for lots of beginner ski lovin. A lot of their blue runs were super advanced (very dark blue...black??) so beware of where you end up! We enjoyed exploring all sides of the moutain. Back to the accomodations, they have an awesome "Club Solitude" with a movie viewing room, sauna, workout room (why would you need that after skiing?) and game room. We tried 3 different restaurants including the pizza joint (Stone Haus), bar (Thirsty Squirrel), and one of the fine dining places (St Bernards) and had great grub at all 3, including a three-course dinner at St Bernards that was included with our room. Super friendly service, relaxing and peaceful accomodations, and a great time. Can't wait to go back. read more

This is my favorite SLC area ski resort. The terrain is perfect for an intermediate to advanced level skiier, with a lot of steep terrain that isn't too cut up with moguls. The resort is just right in size, so you don't spend all of your time trekking around narrow catwalks, but there is enough area to explore. Finally, there aren't too many people. It pretty much lives up to its name in that regard. You can find untracked snow well into the afternoon. My pro-tip is to try Challenger, which is supposedly the steepest groomed run in Utah. I can't prove that, but it's pretty f-ing steep. read more

This was my first visit to SLC. We snowboarded Snowbird and Solitude and really loved Solitude. There are a large variety of blue runs that are easily accessed and can keep you busy all day. Also this mountain was much less crowded so few lines. There were a mix of faster/slower lifts but without lines there still wasn't much downtime. Lift tickets were a little pricey but comparable to all the other mountains, we should have booked ahead as you can get a considerable discount. The mountains in SLC seem to have shuttles and parking figured out! The whole system was easy and the shuttles run so often it was convenient to get to and from the car. We went in the early season so I can't say much about the snow. I would LOVE to get back here and play after a dump of powder. We still really enjoyed the day. read more

Solitude is a really fun ski resort if you're looking for some freshies and fast groomers. There is enough terrain that every run feels different but it's not too large that you get lost. Solitude is a must go if you live in Salt Lake City or if you just are visiting. This was one of my favorite resorts of all time. read more

Uncrowded, yes, but for a reason. I had a 2013-14 weekday season pass for Solitude, and I was disappointed. The people are great, customer service is awesome, base facilities are in great shape and work well. I feel guilty giving Solitude a poor review, because really, they TRY hard. The business is run well. But...the part you're really paying for, the terrain and the lifts, just aren't as good here as at other areas. You can't get to the top of the mountain without riding TWO different low-speed lifts, and if you ski the longest route out, you're looking at a THREE lift journey back to the summit. The length of the runs and the vertical are just less than what I have come to expect in Utah. The ratio of lift time to ski time just isn't good enough. I do all of my skiing on weekdays, so I don't worry much about crowds, if you're a weekends only skiier the slow lifts might be balanced out by shorter lines. Yes, Solitude is wonderfully uncrowded, and the skiing is why...until the Sunrise and Summit lifts can be upgraded to high-speed, I don't think I will be back. I am sorry, Solitude. We really liked everything about the Solitude Village and the Solitude Inn. We stayed three nights at the Inn with a mountain view room (worth it). No up-selling, everything was provided. The staff throughout the Village were great (they all seemed to love working there). Everything we wanted was within a hundred feet of the Inn. During the week it is very slow, which we loved. If you want to "party" bring a bunch of friends or stay in Park City: 4 restaurants/ bars from Pizza to gourmet dinning; the "Yurt" dinner was a wonderful experience; $140 ea but worth it. You can purchase lift tickets and equipment rentals right next to the Inn... The spa, pool/Jacuzzi are right there as well. The UT liquor laws are bazaar...., but one good thing is that the convenience store, located in the village, can not up-sell beer wine... you pay retail for alcohol. I recommend buying wine and paying the $10 corkage fee at the restaurant or BYOB. The skiing/ ridding as others have said, is for the advanced intermediate to super advanced... there is very little "green" terrain and some parts of the blue runs can be very challenging... there are shuttles to Brighton MT which some people used... We will be back with the entire family. Perhaps rent a three bedroom condo. read more

We love Solitude! I would like to single out their ski school. We have two children ages 4 and 2 who both were in Solitude's ski school for 5 days recently. Their coaches (in particular "Amanda Panda" and Eric Schanz) were great with our little ones. They knew very well how to communicate, relate, and teach our children in a kind, patient, fun, and effective way. By the end of the 5 days our 4 year old is already a skier! Our 2 year old is also off to a great start! Thank you to everyone involved at the Solitude Snow Sports Academy for the role you played in a great vacation and for helping us to develop a great ski foundation for our children! read more

We put our kids (4 year olds) in a week of lessons here. The Solitude staff was awesome, especially Amanda, who taught them for a number of days in a row. She is a skilled instructor with experience teaching this age and managed the pre-K temperament well. In three days, our little guys were riding Moonbeam and linking their French fry turns. In my opinion least crowded with comparable terrain as compared to of all the Utah resorts. If you already have your rfid pass, pull into the the lot, turn right, and park by eagle. Take eagle up and do a couple laps and at some point drop into honeycomb if the conditions are right. Take a break at the thirsty Squirrel, and repeat. Head home a happy camper. read more

We stayed during the summer months in a condo at Solitude. The condo was just what I hoped it would be: spacious, clean, fresh and included a balcony and full kitchen. It was also less touristy than the Park City options. The resort has some great hikes on the property and riding the chairlift was cheaper than some of the competitor mountain resorts. However, I found the majority of staff during the summer to be bored and inattentive. We tried to ask the staff member in reception a question about the chairlift and she kept turning around and talking to people behind her halfway through my sentence, which I thought was so unprofessional and rude. The lady who was working in the little shop was so much nicer and pointed out places we could go on a map. Another thing to note is that we didn't come across any staff that had actually done any of the hikes, or knew anything about them. As hiking is a key summer activity there it would be good if the front office staff at least knew the basics of these trails. Perhaps the staff are better in the peak winter season. I found the resort a relaxing place to stay otherwise. read more

I only spent a half day at Solitude and it was early season so the conditions were not very good, that being said Solitude looks to have a lot to offer. Solitude is not a resort so if you are looking for tons of amenities you might not enjoy it here. Parking is convenient as are the lift ticket offices, restrooms and lockers. Amazing week long holiday at this lovely, friendly resort. We could not have asked for a more perfect first ski trip for our family. We stayed in the East Lodge room 213 which was recently remodeled and had every amenity you would need. Recommend staying at East Lodge which is in the same building as heated pool, two hot tubs, game room and workout room. Staff is friendly and helpful. We opted for ski school and all instructors were amazing--Miles was a cut above the rest. Kids did not want to stop and take a break. Both kids were skiing blue square by Day three.
