I had a 3 star experience, but it is a nice place and my experience was just circumstances. Check in was friendly and I had a nice room with a view of the pool. There are limited restaurants open depending on the day and no room service. There are also hiking trails right outside the resort (bring bug pray as I forgot and the hotel didn't have any). On the second day I was there, the power was out all day. They didn't have any control over the power, but do they not have generators? This meant no wifi, hot water, elevators, etc. Then on my third night, there were people loudly in the pool until at least 3am. I repeatedly called the front desk, but there was no answer. Was that one of the people in the pool? I was pretty frustrated by my stay, but Ginnymarie was great when I checked out and helped make it right. The spa was nice. I got a day pass and you can use the grotto (hot tub) by reservation and the sauna and steam room. They also have a relaxation room and brought me a warm neck towel.

    Mold hidden by baseboard

My daughter and I checked in to the lodge on 12/28 and my wife arrived on 12/29. When I went into the room I could smell bleach, but, I assumed that was due to people bringing their wet ski gear...but, when my wife arrived she could smell mold. I was looking for the source behind the bed and I dropped my glasses behind the nightstand; when I pulled the nightstand away from the wall a piece of baseboard fell off and behind it was black mold. Once I was able to pull the bed away from the wall more baseboard fell and we found more mold. Upon further inspection of the room I noticed several pieces of baseboard that were loose, I pulled them away from the wall with my hands. Below is what we found (see photos): Good Luck to those staying there. I just hope it's not in the ventilation system.

The food, however, was just average. My dining partner and I ordered a salad and the steak & frites to share and we were underwhelmed. The pool and jacuzzi down below, however, were a nice after-drink treat. Everything was clean and well maintained and not crowded at all.

Walking the halls during the morning housekeeping sweep, we scoped out a variety of setups and interior modifications (different wall paint, furniture, stainless appliances, granite counters etc.) The Inn is the only property within the Snowbird resort area with no restaurant or bar, and with a lack of a "town" otherwise, your only food options will have you leaving the building. They have a year-round outdoor pool and hot tub, steam room, sauna, changing facilities, and a ski locker room. -- Comparing to Alta, with its rustic, cozy mountain feel there, I was a bit nervous checking into the Snowbird Inn - one of four hotel/resorts that comprise the Snowbird Resort property. Despite the upscale feel around the property however, Snowbird staff in general are super friendly and accommodating, and the Snowbird Inn was no exception! We arrived at the Inn early Monday morning, dropped our bags off, changed into our ski gear, and went off to Alta for the day (about a five-minute drive up the road). Although not the norm, they offered us a ride over to Alta in their resort Suburban, dropping us off at the historic Goldminer's Daughter Lodge where we started our ski day. After skiing and taking the free UTA bus back to Snowbird, we checked in Monday night with Barbara, who was as kind as could be. Barbara whipped out a resort map and showed us the lay of the land, consisting of the "Ski Center" and four different hotels/resorts, all within walking distance. Each hotel offers a restaurant or bar (or in the case of the Cliff Lodge, several) with different-themed cuisines at each. She made food recommendations and happily pointed out the après ski spots, based on the "scene" we were looking for. Come evening, she summoned the shuttle to give us a ride over to the Cliff Lodge, where we grabbed dinner and drinks. The next morning, she was behind the desk (she promised us she got some rest!) greeting both of us by name before offering us a copy of the New York Times. As mentioned before, the Inn has a year-round outdoor pool and hot tub, which we immediately hit after our first day out! The hot tub is big enough to hold 6-8 comfortably and the pool is perfect for when you're too hot (yes, that can happen even in the dead of winter!) or want to swim some laps to loosen up. After checking out of the Inn Tuesday morning, staff were happy to hang onto our bags and offer up their showers and changing facilities so we could ski Snowbird, then freshen up before heading back to Salt Lake City that evening. Most hotels are happy to accommodate their guests like this, but the Snowbird Inn is one of those friendly places where you don't feel funny asking. Overall, we had a phenomenal visit to the Little Cottonwood Canyon area, and we're glad we stayed on the Snowbird property - I'll definitely be back!

That winter, Utah had historic snowfalls. I began contacting SML as early as March to express concern about the snow. I was assured that if it did not melt by May, SML had equipment where they could and remove the snow in time for the ground to dry. Come May, SML did not remove snow, but gladly took full payment for both the Hollow and the house, for our other rentals, and those of our guests. Then, 23 days before our wedding, the other owner, emailed us to abruptly cancel our venue at the Hollow. There was no phone call, no apology, just an explanation that they were concerned about their lawn recovering this summer, and that the stream was louder than usual. They had no alternative venue, and suggested we book the Sundance Resort for our venue - a thoughtless recommendation to make 3 weeks before our wedding as all of our vendors (catering, rental etc.) were well past their cancellation policies and Sundance Resort also had been completely booked as of the year before. SML then suggested they could get permission to host our wedding at the house that we were already renting. When SML confirmed, it also came with "stipulations" of an additional $4,000 "fee" plus $3,000 security deposit - un-coincidentally the exact the sum we had paid for the Hollow. With zero options, this felt like extortion, and we accepted. This now required us to re-plan an entire wedding in a couple of weeks, and forfeit substantial investments that were made in anticipation of having the venue at the Hollow. During the process of replanning the wedding, SML owners were unresponsive at best. It took days for them to respond to emails (often requiring 2 and 3 emails plus phone calls and texts to get a response), and phone calls would go unreturned. This contributed to an already extremely stressful situation that any bride would describe as a complete nightmare. In the end, the lawn at the Hollow was green and healthy the week of our wedding and SML appeared to be setting up another event. We were respectful the entire weekend left the house spotless, yet the owner was belligerent, rude, and unprofessional. The way events were also handled from the cancellation of our wedding to checking-out are beyond the bounds of human decency, let alone professionalism. This is a family run business, who runs their business without concern for their impact on others and makes unethical grabs at additional profits after they take every effort to upend a wedding. They truly took what was supposed to be the best day of our lives and ruined much of the joy in the occasion. If you are considering SML for an important event, I can recommend more strongly to look elsewhere.

After flagging down a server, it took additional time before we were assisted. Everything could improve. FYI, this is all extremely true…read moreand definitely a rant. Sorry up front. :/ It's unfortunate when you have to take the time to post a bad review. We are sweeties. It's time-consuming and it doesn't really actually feel that great. But to not post this information would be sort of irresponsible. It started with the staff. Oddly without soul and unfriendly. The amenities were meh and did not work. The hot tub was cold and murky cloudy.... The lightbulbs in the room were burned out. But the worst part of our experience came when the general manager of the hotel, Mira doubted the authenticity of our Service Animal and actually even suggested that she would call the police to come and authenticate our Pet. Ha. Wait what?!? That would not even be a problem if we had time or energy to entertain such a ridiculous notion. The best thing about this hotel was the fact that they let us out of our reservation. Long story short, before that crazy threat, they moved us to a different room to make up for the cold water in the shower and the grody, cold jacuzzi. We appreciated that but it was one of only one solutions. We packed up and moved all of our things. Pivoting...Let's just go ride and enjoy. Perfect! Sadly, we were not able to do that because the door of our new room was nonfunctioning as well. Two hours later, we are still watching the maintenance guys passionately try to get the door to work. They were really sweet and you could tell they wanted to get the door working so that we could go.. So there we are now trying to talk to the general manager Mira regarding our Service Animal. It was too late in the day to find a dog sitter which normally we would use called Rover. Waiting for them to get the door to function...We asked her to consider allowing us to leave our dog in the room for a couple hours being that we were in this predicament and the door still wasn't working and we had to move all of our things due to no hot water in the shower. It's actually too long of a story, but the GM ultimately suggested that she would call the police and made up some sort of ridiculous exaggeration about our 10 pound dog lunging at someone. NEVER HAPPENED. She also suggested that our registered Service Animal must not actually be legitimate. We showed our documents and even then we never got any kind of understanding or apology for the accusation. At the end of the day, it's an overpriced property with old amenities and a cold, mean staff. Oh and of course, the door thing. We left before the door was ever functioning. It was so much time spent asking for fixes, bulbs and functioning key cards. Being looked at like we were A holes. Like we were irrational kooks causing problems for them. :( So: Time consuming, and the staff wasn't friendly or even understanding. We weren't looking for massive apologies, but kindness would have been nice. Way too much time was spent going up and down from room to desk. Non functioning keys, no hot water in room, and the cloudy, cold hot tub. It's like this: if you're lucky enough to be let out of your reservation and book a property with working basics and a friendly vibe, you are winning. Or even better, just don't book it. Sorry Hampton Cottonwood. A bad representation of a reliable brand. Mira came across as passive aggressive, condescending and the threat of calling the Utah police was jaw dropping. Service animals do not respond well to people reaching out to them while they are working. It's just part of it. This is the absolute opposite of a lack of training and authenticity with a Service Animal. Which is what she was trying to put on us. A working service animal will give a controlled bark to notify a stranger not to pet or engage. A bark. No lunging. Our service pet has a working dog harness. Says in bold print DO NOT PET. The DOT license is also on the harness. So Mira, a suggestion... Practice kindness. Why the condescending tone? Maybe consider that guests coming to the property are happy to be there and ready to enjoy their stay. The thing is, we would've stayed after our move...if the door would have been finished. Ever. But Mira and her trippy control thing, the odd behavior at reception, threats of law enforcement... false accusations and the broken, cold jacuzzi..... Nah. Line drawn. Swear this is all true and was consistent with the demeanor when we called 24 hours prior to booking and spoke to Sepi. And same same with a girl called Adia. Best way to describe the tone is classic "zero F's given". Yeah, that's it. In Spanish we say Sin Alma. (Without Soul). In Venice we would just say why is that chick such a B itch?!? Are we wrong? Nope. Fair question.
