Brighton's so deep in the mountains it was getting even more snow than Alta or Snowbird late season. Nonetheless, most of the skiable area was closed from late April on, and they had some really sticky slush near the bottom. I went here on the week of April 20th (the stoner holiday) not thinking anything of it, and have never seen such a high concentration of intoxicated, degenerate, drug-obsessed college kids and their degenerate behavior. These kids were consuming alcohol on the runs, making fun of, laughing at and humiliating beginners, talking about buying alcohol underaged, jumping people, and "whippets" or however you spell it, their apparent drug of choice. One of these degenerates trying to impress the girl he was with, talked crap to and seemingly tried to start a fight with me for putting the bar down on the chairlift, then completely backtracked and apologized after he realized how much bigger than him I was. Having the Ikon Pass and going to Alta that same week, I wanted to find the explanatory factor for the extreme disparity in guests between here and Alta that particular week. I looked online and saw Brighton was selling day passes for only $49, and marketing their late season as an event, "The Big Melt", geared toward younger people looking to party. Most of the staff here were nice and professional, with a few exceptions. One attractive blonde girl working here was rude and standoffish when I asked what time they close, as they kept changing the closing time on a weekly basis and nobody seemed to know. If you're that rude and arrogant, you probably shouldn't be working in hospitality. Another day an older gentleman working here rushed me down the mountain when I was stopped, trying to take pictures of the view near the top of Snake Creek Express, saying they were closing the run, basically acting like I was inconveniencing him. On the upside, the night skiing and tree skiing was exceptional here when I went earlier in the season, and the girl I took said this was her favorite resort. When I tried taking her to Snowbird she had a panic attack saying it was too steep, and had to have ski patrol take her down in the basket, so Brighton's probably more beginner friendly.

The food was fantastic, made with care, and far above what you usually find in a mountain lodge setting. The staff were genuinely friendly, attentive, and seemed to take real pride in the place. The dining room and bar have a rustic charm that feels authentic rather than staged, which adds to the overall atmosphere. A memorable stop and absolutely worth returning to.

Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. We ordered a bison burger with fries, pulled pork poutine, and blue corn nachos. The fries were limp and cold. The nachos arrived with regular corn chips instead of blue corn and were also cold. The pulled pork poutine was cold as well, and the burger was overly salty. What made the experience worse was the lack of service. We waited about 30 minutes without being checked on while the manager appeared to visit other tables. After flagging down a server, it took additional time before we were assisted. I understand that restaurants can have off nights, but this visit fell well below expectations -- especially given the price point and past experiences. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the location and atmosphere have always been a draw.

The food, however, was just average. My dining partner and I ordered a salad and the steak & frites to share and we were underwhelmed. The "frites" were just regular french fries (we expected much skinnier, flavorful fries) and the steak was very overdone. It wasn't bad enough to send it back, but it didn't wow us. The pool and jacuzzi down below, however, were a nice after-drink treat. Everything was clean and well maintained and not crowded at all.

Asked for French onion soup replacement as ordered. One French one onion delivered - not two. Ordered bowl of bean soup. - received cold cup of bean soup. Server never apologized and I had to flag her down in empty dining room to ask that she correct order problems. Asked to speak manager - appeared 10 minutes later - very brief neutral apology. I left to grab car. Wife remained at restaurant. She heard server complaining to manager about us. Manager told server and my wife heard "they ( wife , me , instructor ) were mean - go to spa"
