Me again. I've got an update since COVID. As I mentioned last time, we stayed in unit 21- we were able to request and stay in it again this summer. There've been some upgrades since we were last there, which was cool to see. Really nice updated bathroom on the first floor - very easy to wash up after going in to town. I'd say about 80% of people in town were wearing masks but with two kids running around you can never be too careful. The living room has a great new TV which has made the quarantine routine, nightly binge watching, enjoyable. We ordered in a few nights Teddy's by the Sea and Siam Elephant (both very good) our delivery man was able to find us easily since the unit is easy to spot. We also walked into town to pick up lunch PeeBee and Jay's we were able to sit out on the balcony for at least two meals a day which felt really good as there's nothing like fresh ocean air! Since we didn't feel as comfortable doing things in town we would normally do we spent most of the time in the unit or at the beach. We didn't have that much interaction with anyone else - it wasn't too crowded for the two weeks we were there but did receive plenty of friendly waves from others in the complex and in town. Perfect getaway just as before only this time we were in masks. We felt the unit was clean and safe. We are so thankful to be able to get away and enjoy a home that isn't our own for a little while. This place is a total dump. Everything is gross and falling apart. The "security" lady at the pool is horrible. About every 3 min or so she comes out of her office and screams at the children swimming. While sitting there I witnessed her scream at a 3 year old quietly swimming with his mother. She should not only be fired from her job but she should not be allowed to work around children. It appeared there was something wrong with her. Either she had been drinking or sleep deprived. Either way she should not be working around families. The facilities are about to fall down. All the rails and decks need to be re done. Both July husband and I got splinters from the hand rails. There are safety issues everywhere. Not sure how they pass inspection. Broken glass in the laundry area. Rebar sticking out of the ground. If you have children do not rent here. Very bad. read more

We stayed at Solimar Sands this year at the end of May for one week. Our condo was VERY clean and decorated SO darling and welcoming. We found the customer service to be absolutely professional and amazing. I am a professional wedding photographer, and we accidentally left our family camera in the condo. I called Jennifer Miller with Solimar Sands and she IMMEDIATELY returned it to me via shipping without a hesitation. In this day and age, that was very thoughtful and professional. Spent a lovely summer week in unit 21!! Beach and Salt Marsh views were unsurpassed - we enjoyed watching the sunset from the balcony each evening. The condo was well decorated and very cute (there are EXTREMELY outdated pictures of this unit on the website which doesn't do it justice). Overall, Solimar Sands is a wonderfully located place to stay and if you get the chance to stay upstairs like we did you can enjoy the fantastic views! Everything in town is close and walking distance. Bring your towels and sheets and get ready for some relaxing fun in the sun. We are looking forward to planning another stay in the fall. read more

We stayed at Solimar Sands for about 6 weeks, while I was staying in the area. While the apartment was fine, and the complex well maintained, the customer service was absolutely terrible. I've never met such an entitled, smarmy, disrespectful, and unhelpful woman in all of my travels, and I've travelled a lot. Jennifer comes across as completely unwilling to help or accommodate her residents in any way beyond taking their money. The apartment wasn't properly cleaned when we got there, and although they advertise wifi internet, it is spotty, to say the least. When I tried to arrange for my own high speed internet, I was told that the building has an arrangement with Verizon to be the exclusive provider. When I called Verizon to order internet, they told me that all of the DSL ports were used up, and that dial up was our only option. Dial up. In 2014... NOT acceptable. When I tried to reach Jennifer, I was told she'd be out if the office for a few days. I then tried to call her on her cel phone to find another solution- she didn't answer, and never returned my call. When I mentioned that I'd left her a message about the internet situation, she simply said, "Yeah, I don't discuss internet on my cellphone." I would never recommend Solimar Sands to anyone. read more

We just stayed here for a week over July 4th week and LOVED it! From the location of the complex, to the condo to the property manager, we had an EXCELLENT experience! We had a little issue with losing a set of keys. I contacted Jennifer (Property Manager) on her Emergency Phone. She pleasantly answered the phone and said she thought she may have had them. She was already off for the night and off the property. Within 10 minutes, I had a knock on the door. She had come back to the property, found my keys and came to our condo to return them for me. I was not expecting that at all! I really appreciated that she took the time to do this and stop what she was doing to help us out! The complex is extremely clean and well taken care of. The pool has a nice layout and basic. Nothing fancy but we weren't there for that... It's the beach we were there for! Our condo was AMAZINGLY perfect for us!! We will definitely be staying at the Solimar Sands again in the future!! read more

Everything is old, outdated and dirty. Unit 20 and most of them. When we decided to cancel 4 months of rental we knew that we had to pay a fee of $500 but when we talked to the "manager" Jennifer she said that we had to pay $500 for each month for a total of $2000!!! We said that this is not what the contract mentionned. At that point she said "ok let's make $500 and let's say you didn't understand" That was weird. The unit was dirty. Very old mattress..., all cupboard were full with the owner's stuff. Very, very old furniture. Dirty carpet. Under the sofa they did not vacuum since a while... Bad smell in the unit. They just want your money and never invest in renovating a little bit. The beach is nice but in this area as well as in Santa Barbara the oil in the sea is horrible. Be ready to go home with black oily dirty feet. read more

I've been staying at Solimar Sands since the 70's and it's been a family tradition of ours for decades. The wife and I returned for a month of R&R last October. Our fifth monthly rental in the last seven years but first under this Manager, Jennifer. Because I've got just two weeks vacation we planned on being there the entire first week and the whole last week (we live an hour away). Well we both had to change our vacation plans when we were finally notified by the assistant manager only weeks before our stay, that they were renovating the pool area and it would be dusty and very noisy. We changed our plans and luckily our employers were OK with it. We check in late on a Saturday and are told the unit is clean. Not! The toilet had a sickening moldy black ring under the rim, screens were choked with dust. Sand clogged the sliding door and room partition tracks, barbecue had more meat burnt onto it than some small cows have on their ribs, and there were no grill cleaning tools to be found. There was lots more... So we clean it up, yes toilet and all, and settle in for our stay. The first week we are relaxing and watching some tube and all of the sudden banging and scraping noises begin from unit above. Turns out unit is being renovated and floors torn up and redone. This went on for days and days...banging, scraping, heavy objects being dropped on the floor etc, etc. No one ever notified us of this beforehand. We then decide to escape the din by taking some drives, lots of them. Went to SLO, Morro Bay, along Casitas Pass and to Solvang. Nice times for sure but not on OUR schedule. When the worst of the noise fest was finally over with the wife and I pop in a dvd and sit back to relax one evening. "Honey, do you hear a dripping noise?" Surely was. Water dripping from unit above. Jennifer had a plummer out quickly to fix that at least. So by now we are wondering what had happened to the Solimar Sands we once knew and loved? We spoke with an owner with long tenure there and they were even perplexed and mentioned they felt the place was going downhill fast...also saying many longtime renters had switched to Sunset Shores down the street. This owner also was miffed that they were not even informed of the pool area construction! Well, to make a long story a bit less long, we had a lot of these gripes filled out on the questionnaire they provide but we ended up tossing it in the trash because we don't like to complain and we have had a four-decade business relationship with this place. So we return home and get back to work. Ten days later on a Saturday we receive our security deposit check back from Solimar. I was really looking forward to that because I have kids in college and every dollar counts. I open it and instead of the $1,000.00 hard-earned I put up I've got just $460. What the heck? No note, no explanation, no phone call...nothing. It was only 3 p.m. so I call the office and of course no one answers, even though they are supposedly in the office till 5 on Saturdays. I leave a voice mail...no one calls back. The following Monday around noon, still no call back so I call Jennifer and she was in a meeting she says. She explains that a few days after I'd checked out the unit owner came in and discovered "a big crack" in the bathroom sink, for which $540 bucks was deducted from my deposit. "What? There is no way! I reply...no way we did anything of the sort to damage the sink." Soon afterward my wife calls her and is also told we left a "big crack" in the sink. We request photos and she sends a couple showing a small chip about the size of your fingernail on the edge of the counter top as it drops into the sink. So a big crack has suddenly morphed into a chip. A chip which we also did not make in the counter top. Was it the house cleaner, unit owner, prior renter? I don't know but I am out over $500. Jennifer offers nothing in the way of compassion and has no desire to hear our side at all. Look, if you have read this and are still going to rent here (say what???) at least insist on a thorough and comprehensive walk-through with the manager or assistant upon check-in and have the manager sign it. Take lots of pictures of the unit before you leave and before doing so again insist on a signed-off walk through. The manager of any rental facility with privately owned units works for the owners first, and you second. Make the manager work for you and protect your security deposit. Carp is an awesome place to be but there are tons of other places to rent here including Sunset Shores which is just down the street on Sandyland. It must be abundantly clear by now, but I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. I'm done with the place...our families forty year tradition at Solimar Sands is over. But we will find someplace new to rent in Carp and start a new one. read more

Our family has rented a place here for the past four years and we love it. The apartment complexes are nice but some are better then others. The manager is nice and makes sure everybody follows the rules. The apartments are pretty cheap to rent and very close to the beach. I think we will come here for several years in the future. The only things I don't like about solimar sands is that the temperature of the pool is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is very hot which is always nice and other times it is pretty cold. The other thing I don't like is that the people that live here will complain about everything. If there is ever more noise than usual they will complain to the manager even if it is during the day. It really bothers me that the kids in our family can't make any noise without getting in trouble. read more

We decided to try staying at Solimar Sands recently, to see if the customer service has improved. It is in a really nice location right across the street from beach access. We spent a week enjoying the beach and the town and had a nice time. I think the manager must have been on vacation or no longer works there because it was peaceful around the complex. Hopefully the owners have made a change and customer service has improved, making this a more welcoming vacation destination. If so, we'll be back! The complex is very nice. read more

My extended family rented two condos here for a week. One of the condos turned out to be not very nice, and the manager Jennifer kindly arranged for us to switch into a different one, which was gorgeous. We ended up in #2 and #20. The location is great; it's right across the street from the beach access by the salt marsh; the city surf lessons and kayak rentals and junior lifeguard programs are all at that access. It's a bit further to walk to downtown Carpinteria; it's 3/4 mile to the RiteAid and the farmers market. The condos were terrific. #2 has a nice big deck with plenty of seating and a small grill, and a gate that opens to the street. We ate our meals in #2, which has a big expandable dining table and plenty of chairs in addition to the table & seating on the deck. #20 is upstairs and is a two-story unit, so there was a lot of stair climbing. The #20 balcony isn't very big but it has four stools and a grill; we sat out there to watch the ocean and the birds in the salt marsh. Both of the condos were clean and comfortable, with beautiful decor. Comfortable beds, plenty of pillows. Well equipped kitchens. The pictures on the website really don't do justice to how nice these places are. Wifi worked great in both units. Parking is convenient; they give you a clicker to open the gate, and then there are some covered spaces and some uncovered, first come first served (limit one car per unit). They have coin-op washers and dryers (each takes $1.50 in quarters) and they require you to wash the bathmat or any linens that came with the condo - ours had some dish towels and dish cloths - before you leave. You do have to bring your own sheets & towels; don't forget bath towels in addition to beach towels. We only used the pool once, partly because who needs a pool when you have the ocean but also because they enforce some very strict rules about pool use and the kids didn't enjoy it so much when they did use it. We live in Arizona and these kids have pools at home so are used to less restrictions. Others might not mind. I received the security deposit in the mail less than a week after we got back home. If you're looking at these condos, you're probably already familiar with Carpinteria, which is a wonderful little beach town. It's not a party town; we tried to order a second bottle of wine at dinner our last Friday night there and couldn't because it was past 9:30 and there's an ordinance. There's also no smoking in Carpinteria (!). But the beach is great, there are nice places to eat including a wine bar and a cupcake place and The Spot burger joint, people are friendly, there's a good big grocery store and a nice farmer's market, Amtrak runs through it (12 minutes to Santa Barbara), and if you need anything you can't get there it's a short hop by freeway to SB or Ventura. We love it there. read more

We stayed at Solimar Sands for a month in September. It was a wonderful vacation for our family. We rented a unit at Solimar Sands, which was very nicely furnished and comfortable. It was fully furnished throughout. We were across the street from the countries cleanest and safest beach in Carpinteria. The weather was great, and if it did get a little cool you could go swimming in one of two swimming pools at Solimar Sands. There is also a hot tub there , laundry room, and covered parking. Weekly and monthly rates are available. Time to go on a vacation. read more

We love the town of Carpinteria and a few years ago we found this quaint little place called Solimar Sands . We stayed a week and just loved the pool area, we walked across the street to the beach and found the most beautiful sunset WOW My wife and I sat there and just enjoyed the view . Solimar sands is very clean and the parking is secure with a gated area to make me feel safe . We liked the upstair units because they had a great view and the units are very nicely decorated , we will be back read more

Recently stayed for a week, the complex itself is okay, the management was okay our particular unit #15 was a dive .My list can go on for days..it has been neglected for years! The owners had just been there the previous week. There were tall weeds in the patio, closet doors were broken not enough kitchen supplies. No tongs, no cheese grater, no lighter for the BBQ , no dish towel, no paper towels..dirty bathroom, no toilet paper, no bath mat, shower head leaked. The bed had no box spring ( low to floor ) 2 plastic pillows. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable could not be used. I will never stay in unit #15 again, and recommend you don't either. read more

Great location and nice (thought if can vary from unit to unit a bit). The issue is weak management. Not very helpful with any issues that might come up. In our case, there was a grill on the balcony in photos for our unit, but no grill when we got there. The manager just shrugged and didn't care. I'm really surprised the owners put up with such shoddy management. Just look at the website for them and it still lists the year as 2010-11. read more

We love it here! We are staying here for a month, and are thoroughly enjoying it. We love the salt marsh nature preserve across the street, and that the beach is only a half-block away.
