I love this location. Validated parking in DC is always a win. I really like the instructors who provide hands-on corrections unless you prefer not to receive them, who will challenge you and motivate you. I've been complementing my gym workouts with solidcore and has been great for core strengthening but there are daily muscle focuses that are tough too. Membership isn't cheap but I've found having a not-so-committed membership (4x per month) in addition to classpass (for flexibility of either doing solidcore or something else) is a good pace for me. Edit: after reading some reviews, I wanted to say in the classes I've been to, there have been heightened attention from instructors to ensure people have correct form. If you don't, you may get injured. That's with any sport or workout. Also, if you're new, look around to see if you're doing it wrong. Hell, 50+ classes in and I still look around sometimes. Lastly, nearly all the exercises are slow movements. Unless the instructor explicitly says to go fast on army crawls or up downs, you aren't trying to break the record for most reps. Some classes, I've seen people breeze through. First, you're likely not getting a workout and second, you're increasing risk of injury. read more

I've been coming to Solidcore consistently for the past 7 months, and it's hands down the most effective workout I've ever done. I've always been active and played sports growing up, but I struggled to find something that kept me motivated as an adult. Solidcore changed that. With no major lifestyle changes (I work a desk job, eat decently, commute mostly on foot/via transit and still drink most weeks), I've seen a huge transformation in my body. I am probably the most fit I have ever been. The coaches are great - Sam is the best, but you can't go wrong taking a class with Alethea, Sofia or Mary Kate. The vibe is always supportive but challenging, and I actually look forward to going. I also really appreciate how receptive the team is to feedback. On the rare occasion something's come up, they've been quick to address it and super responsive. No substantive complaints about the studio itself - especially considering it's one of Solidcore's lower membership tier locations. It's technically in NW DC, but it's billed at the Maryland tier, which makes it a way better deal than the other DC studios with more expensive memberships. The only thing I'll note is that this location doesn't have a live phone line, which can make it tough to get ahold of someone quickly if something comes up. Not enough to deduct a star, but I do wish they'd fix that. If I had one suggestion for the company overall, it would be to remove cancellation fees and shorten the cancellation window. Life happens, and a little more flexibility would go a long way for members. In short; If you're looking for a fun workout that will push you and actually deliver results, this is it. I love solidcore and have been going since 2017. This is a new location for me and I've had Toni as an instructor at the Bethesda location before and she's fantastic. Very knowledgeable, high energy and always has the best sequences for workouts. I've also had Valentina who's very sweet although I feel like the sequences could use a bit of work. The transitions are sometimes confusing and a lot of talk in between them instead of just direct instructions - at some point you can see the class looking around and at each other to see what position they're currently in. Great music playlist though. Highly recommend this workout for anyone who does strength-training regularly and wants to add a focused workout in the core area. read more

Solidcore Cathedral Commons - Pilates Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I tried a Solidcore class and was really impressed. I'm used to doing more cardio so the slow resistance exercises were new to me. The class I did was challenging for sure and the instructor was really accommodating in terms of ways to modify the exercises for new solidcore people versus those who had more classes under their belts. I was shaking the entire class but didn't feel sore until day 2. It was a great workout and I'm sure I will be back again. read more

I started to routinely go to solidcore to help strengthen my core to combat sitting at a desk job each day. I knew my body had restrictions especially around the lower back, and I told the instructor before class of my limitations. I was actively making a modification in class for a particular move that I knew I could not do. Shortly after starting the exercise, the instructor moved me into the move into the position I was modifying, and I instantly felt intense pain. The next day I started to feel shooting pains down my left leg, and I could barely lift my leg to shave that morning. Many doctors visits and scans later, I found out I had a herniated disc in my back resulting from the injury. It has cost me thousands of dollars in PT and epidural steriod injections, but I am just now starting to be able to do any form of exercise (lifting 2lb weights) a year after the incident. Don't get me wrong all of the solidcore classes are INTENSE (just as other reviewers say), and you will get a good workout from them. Just be aware that the instructors aren't always focused on your form, and the intensity of the class can create a high risk for injury. I have heard from my PT instructor he has seen other people with injuries resulting from Solidcore. read more

I take workout classes ALL THE TIME! I've tried maybe 15 different classes in the DMV area and Solidcore has been one of the best workouts/ experiences I've had thus far! Ryan Shepard recruited me to take one of this classes & wow he is magnetic in during the class! His energy is infectious and everyone in his classes can walk after. Your core will be sore for several days following your first few classes so don't give up! It is worth the pain! Solidcore is for all levels, which is fun to me because you can sometimes be the most fit person in the class or the least fit! The diversity feels things fresh and me wanting more! I've been doing [solidcore] for a year. It's now one of the main things I talk about in my social interactions. Lol. I live in Woodley Park and go to the Adams Morgan and Cathedral Heights locations. The plus for Cathedral Heights is that there's a giant free parking lot with validation. Otherwise, I have no preference. The instructors are all great and the workouts are always very challenging. These are the only locations I've tried. I decided to try to get into pilates at the very end of 2018. One reason is that I have a minor bulging disc in my lower back from doing a single leg deadlift during a HIIT group fitness class at my gym. =( I needed something low impact. I also thought I would sound cool and fancy if I could say that I was really into pilates. LOL! I started out doing the 2-classes-per-month plan. At the end of 2019, I hit the 50-class mark. I have had a six pack for several months. I've got tank top arms. I've got firm thighs and a firm bum. =) [The only thing I wish I could work on in the class is my calves.] I'm now doing 4 classes a month. Go me! I try to supplement this class with cardio exercise because this workout is all about slow movement with high resistance. I often get drenched in sweat but no heavy breathing. If you're new to solidore and haven't been exercising at all, I would recommend working out a few times for a week or two before the first class. Be prepared to have some trouble with the positions. Also, be prepared to feel your muscles burn! Don't worry, the class is challenging for everyone. Embrace the shakes. The people who have experience are struggling just like you because they are using more resistance and heavier weights. Usually, you can follow others to see the right position for the exercise because there are always people who know and the instructor is not using a machine during the class, so he/she can't give you the visual. You will get a demonstration of some exercises before class (and a tutorial on the machine if you go to a beginner class). Sometimes they have happy hours and other gatherings. So, you might make some friends, too. Try it! read more

Solodcore rocks! It is, by far, the most intense workout I've ever had. I've been going religiously now for well over a year and I'm solid in places I had no idea I was flabby. I came to solidcore over a year ago, after having two broken ribs - with the goal of 'getting back into shape' - and I did exactly that! This did not come easily, but with the constant support of the coaches (Linda, Jordan, Jacob, Philip, James, Anina) over the last year - I have achieved so much. This is one of the hardest workouts one will ever do - but it is worth every class. The staff are very friendly and supportive, and are amazing at working with newcomers of all skills and abilities and create an undeniable welcoming environment. After many classes, I just took my 100th class, look much different from the intense work out, my golf game has improved, and have made great new friends, and I am thrilled to be part of the [solidcore] family. Don't be afraid to take a class, it is hard fro everyone no matter what skill level - but once you conquer the machine, as all moves are done on a megformer (takes about 3 classes to get comfortable with the machine) - and can focus on the workout- you will love the results! read more

As a dancer and power lifter, I think of myself as fairly athletic. These classes wreck me every time, in a really good way! So much sweat, but the better you learn how to do these classes, the harder they actually are. You can only scale up to get more benefit. The coaches at Cathedral Commons have been really great about being clear with what move is coming next (NOT as common as you would hope among other locations, West End looking at you...) and yet continuously talking you through it so your workout is done faster than it seems like it should be. Highly recommend for everyone, and it's awesome to see all levels of fitness working hard and getting [solid] together. High five! read more

I had a lot of fun at the classes that I attended, especially once I got the hang of the exercises. You definitely leave feeling like you've worked hard. However, the instructors I had did not consistently do a great job making sure that people in the class (okay, me) were doing some moves properly. It made me weary to do the exercise at all bc it made me worry that I was putting myself at a much higher risk for injury by doing the exercise incorrectly (and as a competitive runner, that's a pretty large fear). I would also really like to understand why they put expiration dates on class packages. I bought one and due to sickness/other training/winter weather, I didn't get to use my third class in time and am now out $33. I think that's a crappy way to treat people who are willing to pay for the cost of solidcore classes. I won't be going back. When I spend as much as I did on these classes, I expect flexbility. I did not ever sign up for/miss or belatedly cancel a class. If you think there's a chance that real life might get in the way of getting to your classes within a month of purchase, don't risk it. It can be fun but now that I've virtually paid $60+ for two classes, it really just feels like they prioritize making money over the customer. More than anything, I'd like to understand why this is a policy. read more

I'm a crossfitter and a triathlete. I don't regularly do solidcore, but when I do, I always enjoy the change of pace! I was skeptical of how difficult the workout would be at first, but always leave sweating, tired and sore (in the best way)! There are a lot of way to scale the workouts up or down and the instructors do a really good job of determining who is ready for more resistance and who needs to back off a bit. In my normal workouts, we don't do a lot of specific "core" work, but it's very important to my overall fitness and performance so I like to be able to pop in every now and again. The instructors put a lot of time, effort and planning into both their initial training and to each workout. They know their customers by name in the system and by face which is great. In addition to "normal" classes, I've also attended "mock" classes of instructors in training, which are a budget-friendly way to check out the workout and also provide feedback in a low-stress environment for everyone, including the future trainer. read more

Got me to become disciplined in working out every day. Oddly, I enjoy these classes in a way I haven't enjoyed working out before. Though still not as enjoyable as sleeping (or eating), I don't dread class... which is why I'm doing another month of membership! In regards to this infamously being the hardest exercise class ever, this was not the case for me (intense cardio imo is the most excruciating pain for muscles AND lungs). Solidcore is an hour of straight core punishment. It is a serious test of limits and if weren't for Charly I can honestly say you wouldn't find me within a mile of Solidcore! I've been taking classes for almost two years at SolidCore (DC locations) and it is by far the most challenging, intense yet fun workout I've ever experienced! I mostly take Jo, Charly, Jess and Sara's classes and they are awesome, very encouraging and they push you further than you think you can go. SolidCore has been the perfect compliment to my marathon training. My core and glute strength gained from SolidCore has totally improved my running. Solidcore Cathedral Commons is on my list as one of the top 3 Solidcore studios and I have been to them all in the DMV. I love it enough to go to a 7:30am class on a Sunday! Great coaches (Anina, Vanessa, Sarah...eager to try all the others too), great studio...and great dedicated fellow classmates. Easy parking in garage as well as on the street. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Best feature is serene window full of green trees as studio is on the second floor. My husband and I went to solidcore yesterday, and I had a hard time lifting my hands above my head this morning to shower. It was a GREAT workout. Given my record of disappointing classes, I was really nervous about going because a) most people said it was the hardest workout they've ever tried and b) I was nervous about keeping up and had no idea how I would compare (I don't lift weights - I run). I can easily see how you get hooked. Here is what I loved: 1. It is freaking FAST. 50 minutes on a treadmill and I am counting down every second. When the instructor said "Last exercise!" I legitimately thought she was lying as a sick form of motivation. But lo and behold, the time flies. Every exercise or move is so fast (and difficult) that you are concentrating on holding a position and not how many seconds are left. I also like that the instructor doesn't do a long countdown. Instead, she kept saying "Ok guys you're gonna hold this for 18 seconds!" and then she would say "3-2-1!". I loved this because is there anything worse than hearing someone countdown from 30, 60, 100? Time seems so slow when you count every second. 2. Everyone attending is at a different level of "fit". Some people in the class had been to solidcore 3 times, others never before, and a few 10+ times. Everyone was spread out so that newbies were mixed in between more experienced people. This helped tremendously when I wasn't sure of form, so I could just look to the person next to me. Since everyone is at different athletic stages, some people can hold different poses longer than others. EVERYONE takes breaks at different points, so you don't feel like a failure when you can't hold a lunge as long as the next person. 3. Everything will hurt. A lot of people said "you will feel muscles you didn't even know you had." That depends on what your exercise regime is like. I am majorly feeling it in my arms, legs and core. I've felt all these muscles burn before, but never all at the same. This is such a fantastic workout for someone like me, who does a lot of running but does not have the discipline or knowledge to go into a gym and lift a ton of weights. 4. The instructor is not on a machine. Praise God, an instructor who is actually walking around and helping you the ENTIRE time. I really appreciated this because sometimes in other group classes, you can't interrupt to ask a question. I also like that the group is no more than 13 people, so she can actually pay attention to you and your form. The only thing that prevented me from giving 5 stars is the price. Its pricey at $35 per class. I was interested in the 3 class special for $85, but was disappointed that it was only eligible to those who had not taken a class before. I assumed that they would allow you to test one class before committing to a package. Had I known that, I would have just purchased it. Regardless, its definitely something I'm interested in doing more, I just need to figure out a way to fund it! read more

The classes are fantastic - they are the hardest classes we've ever been to (you can modify when you first start...I definitely did...). I was a first timer to solidcore and didn't know what to expect. I usually don't do much strength training, but am a regular runner. I'm shocked at how challenging the sequences were! It definitely showed me that there are a lot of muscle groups that are neglected when I only do cardio. Here's the ultimate definition of the Perfect Solidcore Coach. She is able to coach the entire group as well as make each person feel like they are getting individual attention. She not only coaches into that mike for 50 minutes non stop, she actually engages in interesting, entertaining, funny conversation during that time. She innocently does what feels like two hours of triceps while gleefully proclaiming: I need triceps, all i've done is biceps lately. you still like her anyway. I really am addicted to going to [solidcore] I workout at the gym casually every week but I don't really get runners high as they say... I feel different about solidcore because I'm really happy and excited to go and get a very challenging workout and feel really proud about the burn I feel in my legs and abs after.
