Fuse is an incredible studio, full of amazing humans. I was in DC for a work-cation and really wanted to get back into my Pilates routine. Fuse's location is close to where I was staying so I thought I'd give it a try. It was beyond my expectation. I went to 6 classes (facilitated by Rachel and Dani) over the span of a week. Rachel's classes were dynamic, fun, and upbeat. Dani's classes were detailed, deep, and challenging. I appreciated them both so much and it speaks volumes that each instructor here took the time to cultivate their unique styles. I left each class feeling more of myself. I also had the pleasure of meeting Saba, the owner, who was so friendly and gave me incredible recommendations for local restaurants. My love for Pilates & my practice were restored by the end of the week. Will definitely return when I'm back in DC. Thank you, Fuse! read more

I only went to their old location, but Fuse Pilates helped motivate me to enjoy exercise and become the fittest I've ever been. I'm a huge fan of Fuse and am excited that they were able to open a second location. While the rooms aren't huge here either, and it has a similar look and feel to the Dupont location, it is slightly more modern and brighter. I took a class here with Addie, and she is fantastic. I'm sad I haven't taken a class with her before, but I highly recommend her, even if you are brand new to Pilates. The other staff I interacted with were friendly as well. If location is not a concern for you (as it's not for me), you should definitely check out Fuse's second location. read more

One of my favorite things about Fuse is the variety of classes offered. Not only do they offer wonderful reformer classes (for all levels), they also offer mat classes, ladder classes, and bounce classes. I recommend trying each class, as each one makes me sore somewhere different than the others. In addition to the awesome classes, the owner and teachers at Fuse are so knowledgeable, encouraging, approachable, and easygoing. I cannot say enough good things about Fuse. read more

I decided to test Fuse out with the 2 for $25 mat deal, because I am a pilates newb, and apparently they are the best in the area. Now I can see why. Atmosphere: The office is modern, clean, bright, and has a very nice waiting area. The mat studio is the perfect size for the instructor to see and interact with all students during class. Instructors and staff: Desk staff was friendly and helpful on both occasions (two different individuals that I met). Instructors Clare and Rachel were fantastic. Super friendly, very fit, and moved the class along at a great pace. The class: I will likely need to come back and update since I only took Fuse Pilates. Both classes were executed at a good pace, they burned in all the right areas, and there was a lot of sweat involved. I left both classes feeling AWESOME. I had the shakes after Clare's class (which for me is a good thing) and Rachel's class gave me an intense amount of energy today. I shall be back whether with a membership or Class Pass. Sorry to say, FP is not the same as during the previous ownership. In my case, it engaged in, what I think, is a scam. When, in April, I did not see the FP's requirement for a proof of the C-19 vax, I bought online a 10-lesson pass for mat pilates. When I got to the class a few days later, I was told the vax requirement was still in place and I was ineligible. The instructor tried to talk me into lying that I forgot to bring the proof, even though I said earlier I was not vaxed. I asked for my money back. FP refused and told me to ask my credit card company to obtain a refund. Just got a letter from my credit card company that FP refused to refund because all purchases are final! This whole transaction was, clearly, a theft. Watch your pockets dealing with Fuse Pilates! Or, better yet, avoid them. read more

The newest location of Fuse just opened on 14th and to celebrate they were offering free classes at both this and the DuPont studio all weekend. I jumped at the chance to try the basic matt class, thinking "this will be fun, you like new things and haven't done pilates before!" And then class started and I realized I'd repressed my previous pilates experiences....because boy does it hurt :p Backing up, Fuse is on the second floor in a nicely decorated and naturally lit space. When you walk in you're greeted by the reception desk and directed to one of the two studio spaces. Check-in and the waiver process went smoothly and I appreciated the free branded hairband that was offered (hair seriously gets in the way with matt exercise!). The class was fairly full (30ish students) but the matts were already laid down at the start so everyone had the appropriate amount of space. All classes at Fuse are taught "on request" meaning the class gets to decide what body parts are focused on that day. Abs were not suggested but our instructor added them anyways, ouch. The instruction style was clear but not hands-on. I only saw one adjustment being made during class but I'm sure many of us could have used more attention, always the downside to a large class. Music was played throughout and the instructor had a good sense of humor about how difficult many of the moves were. After 55 minutes of pain and a short stretch class was done. And considering how much my abs hurt 12 hours later, the pain probably would lead to some awesome abs if I decide to return to Fuse. read more

Took one of the reformer classes at Dupont. Make sure you take the metro here because parking is extremely difficult to find in Dupont. My class was upstairs and an intimate 6 people or so. Our instructor was Randi, who had her cute little daughter in a sling on her back sleeping. Randi made sure to ask us what we wanted to work on before we started, and made sure we hit those areas! She was able to clearly give us instructions and also help out those that weren't doing the exercises correctly (ie, me). The class wasn't too difficult that I couldn't follow along, and the intimate setting helped us get individualized attention. read more

I discovered Fuse recently and it's addicting! The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and change up the classes so it doesn't get boring. For Pilates the class chooses three areas to focus on, which means you'll build strength in different ways if you keep going. The classes are challenging but in a good way! read more

4.5 stars. The only reason I didn't give Fuse 5/5 is because the price can be prohibitive for most people. However, if you are really serious about toning and becoming more fit, Fuse will not disappoint you. Scheduling is done online, and there are so many different teachers and types of classes. From a regular mat class to Fuse Toys and Fuse Jump Interval (pilates + extra cardio!), you can't help but find a class that suits your speed. Classes can be full, but I've almost always gotten off the waitlist. The class is done to awesome music -- not so much top 40 crap, thank goodness -- that really makes it fun. The instructor will focus on 3 areas of the body as chosen by the class. By the end of it, you'll be dead tired and possibly feel like you're about to die, but it will be the best feeling ever. Trust me. And you'll be fine, so don't worry about that. As you come out to more classes, you'll see which instructors match your level more (Mariska's classes are HARD, you have been warned). No matter what though, all of the classes are challenging and the instructors for the most part are welcoming. Since starting Fuse about 5 months ago and only going about once a week on average (in addition to hip hop dance about once a wk), I've dropped down 1 size, lost 2 inches from my waist, even more from my hips, gained INCREDIBLE muscle tone in my arms, abs, glutes and legs and haven't even dropped down in bra size. If those aren't great results, I don't know what is! read more

Fuse is located in a 4 story townhouse in Dupont Circle. Every floor is a different studio so they're able to offer a lot of classes at the same time. The studio is new, built in June and the decor is very modern. The waiting area doesn't have comfortable seating with back support, but they do offer magazines to read and small snack jar which is a nice treat. The concept behind Fuse Pilates is to "blend elements from dance, barre, and core stability training ". I took several classes but honestly they were too crowded, I don't enjoy working out with someone 6 inches away from me. The instructors only demonstrated briefly what to do and spent most of the time standing because really they didn't have space for their own mat. I would have liked to have seen more form correction done with their time. The staff is very friendly here. Unfortunately the studio is too expensive for me to go on a regular basis. Fuse Pilates ruined me. I decided to take a boot camp with Clare, a newly-trained instructor who fell in love with Fuse, and it was the first time I ever took a pilates class. I figured it was something I would like since it involved a bit more movement and less coordination than yoga. I like the idea of using your own body weight against you and having a form of exercise that requires minimal items other than your own body. So I thought I would give pilates a chance. Fuse pilates is for hard-asses (both in the personality sense and literal sense!), and will promise to sculpt you into shape and make you feel really confident about yourself. After an hour long Fuse workout, you're going to have this immense sense of satisfaction of having accomplished something, and you're going to be sore in the way that reminds you that you've just done something great for your body. So why do I say Fuse has ruined me? Well, little did I know that other pilates classes will forevermore have NOTHING on Fuse pilates. I've tried taking classes elsewhere, and kept thinking, "Is this it? This is all they're going to have us do?!" My only reservation with Fuse pilates is that, like other workout classes, it's not totally affordable for everyone. However, as it becomes more popular, I hope to see prices that I can jump into a bit more easily! The style is spreading across DC with new trainers, so keep an eye out at your local gym for other places that offer Fuse! read more

I work at Fuse Pilates so I am writing this from the perspective of a teacher and a student. I have worked here since it opened 2 years ago. Now, I'll be moving to San Francisco and Fuse is one of the hardest things that I'll be leaving in DC. If you need an amazing full body workout and are also looking for a good community, Fuse is your place! The studio is an amazing community of students and teachers. Everyone is in good spirits when at the studio and it's a fun place to hang out before and after a workout. I have made a handful of really great strong new friendships through people that I have met in class! The students are dedicated, hard working and love a good workout. The teachers are knowledgable, fun and always looking to up the anty for the students to keep it interesting, challenging while always safe and appropriate for the group. Mariska and Roxanna - the founders of the studio - are an amazing duo team. The creativity and knowledge behind the discipline and the operations behind making the studio hum along make for a great package that is not only an amazing place to work, but a great place to work yourself out. The training that I have received through Fuse Pilates - and Mariska - has been so thorough. I have always felt prepared to handle and provide modifications to students when necessary or direct students to specific teachers that are trained to help them on a deeper level. The style, which allows the students to submit requests for areas of the body that they want to target, makes for a very tailored workout for the class as well as a super fun class for the teacher to teach. I've been a Fuse student since 2009, and should have written this review long ago-- I dragged my feet because I didn't want my favorite classes to sell out. Then I realized it's selfish to keep something this awesome to yourself, right? Right. So I found Fuse back in June 2009 on a whim, looking to get back in shape. I used to dance (lots) in college, but an injury back in 1997 had me looking for a new hobby and a new form of exercise. I took yoga. Spinning classes. Bought exercise videos. Tried to "run." Turns out I'm not cut out to be a yogi, my butt hurts on a bicycle (despite plenty of padding); I get bored OUT OF MY MIND doing the same exercise video; and I should only run if someone is chasing me. Over ten years and many hundreds of dollars later, I found Fuse. After my first class, I was totally hooked. I committed to this exercise the way I had never committed to anything besides dancing. Why? Because it's fun. And it works. So what do I love about Fuse? 1) Variety. I have the attention span of a gnat and am VERY easily bored. Fuse mixes it up so very class is different. An added bonus of said variety is muscle confusion, so I saw results quickly and am still getting stronger. 2) Music. Thank GOD someone thought that traditional pilates could be taken to a whole new level by a little Pitbull. I firmly believe exercising to music makes things hurt less and makes 50 minutes go by in no time at all. 3) The people. I've met so many fantastic ladies (and gents) taking this class. I love the community of "regulars" and I look forward to seeing all them. The new studio is gorgeous and the waiting room is conducive to socializing and lounging with said fantastic ladies (and gents). 4) The instructors. Well trained, professional and all-around awesome people. I especially look forward to my classes with Mariska (Fuse's founder); Clare; and Addie. 5) The results. I'm not ashamed to say that years at a desk job and irregular exercise made me a bit... beefier than I should have been. Doing Fuse I dropped 3 pant sizes and am back to wearing clothes I wore in my college dancer days. I'm in my thirties and most definitely have a healthier figure than I did in my twenties. Yes. The classes are expensive. But they are the going rate for pilates in this city. And they are worth every penny. This was my 1st pilates class ever. It was on one of those machines & it was called "jump," which is apparently something that was developed by the people at Fuse, that I, sadly, won't be able to find anywhere else. It was a great workout, SO much fun, & it felt like the perfect balance to all the spinning I do. Randi, the instructor, made me feel really comfortable as a newbie, and her playlist of 80s ladies (Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Paula Abdul, & more) was FANTASTIC. My abs are a little sore this morning, which is one of my favorite feelings. A few negatives: 1. It's definitely cost prohibitive. $40 to drop in for a class?! (The mat classes are apparently less, but still!) It was my first class so it was *only* $25. Sheesh. 2. The guy working the front desk. Is he somebody's boyfriend or something so they let him have a job? If he's new, he needs A LOT more training. He charged me wrong. He forgot to charge my friend. And each of these interactions took at least 10 minutes...while other people were waiting to check in. He tried, he was sweet about it, but poor thing, he was very easily confused. 3. They make you use really toxic Clorox wipes on the machines after class. Please get the kind you can buy in Whole Foods. I have a headache today just from smelling those chemicals for just 2 minutes. Those 3 negatives don't stop me from recommending this place, though. If you can afford it, by all means, enjoy it--I had a great workout. But get there early if you need to deal with any monetary transactions. read more

I love Fuse. I've been shopping around for a good "regular" place since I quit my gym and Fuse is definitely my favorite. Its mat classes are good for all levels and instructors are really good at helping you perfect your form and find ways to make exercises either more and less difficult, depending on your needs. Classes are different every time because they're made up on the spot, depending on what people ask to work on, which is great. I would never think to work on some things otherwise but I always am glad I did after). Also, the music is really fun which makes all the difference (Ayelet especially always has great playlists for her classes). One thing I love about Fuse -- I have a long term injury and they have been wonderful about helping me modify different positions to accommodate it (I don't have to ask for help, which I always do at other studios; instructors are very attentive and ask about injuries at the beginning of class so they can help you without you having to flag them down every time). The instructors pay a lot of attention to form and making sure you're doing things right for results and for potential injuries, even in the bigger mat classes, which I haven't found as much elsewhere. The studio is pretty and has nice light (I hate those dark studios that feel like working out in a cave) and is pretty easy to get to since it's right off the metro. I go to Fuse two to three times a week and I consistently feel a good burn the day after the classes. Yay Fuse! read more

I used to think pilates was an ineffective but trendy fad and Fuse proved me wrong. Yes, it is somewhat trendy, but the studio provides a very good workout that keeps me more on the lean (as opposed to 'bulky') side. Fuse has a very welcoming atmosphere, a mixed clientele, and it's really a boon to be able to choose which body parts to focus on per class. The instructors that I've encountered know their stuff and are open to working with your injuries or paying extra attention to your form if you ask them before class starts. They offer mat, reformer and chair classes. Personally, one of my favorites is the chair classes with Meredith, but there are a number of other teachers who rock and it just depends on which personality and workout style works best with yours. There's an instructor who used to/still hosts pilates for runners and regular mat classes. Watch out for her ab sequences - she's a killer and she may try to make you laugh at the same time. This place is pricy, no doubt about it. However, look into their specials as well as their contracts (not just classes, packages, and workshops). They offer this 3/3/3 deal for a great price and you get to experience 3 classes of each type and test drive different teachers. Downside: If you take the Dupont metro and the escalators have broken down, you will have a mini-leg workout before the whole thing starts. read more

Update - 14 months later! The Fuse Studio has been up and running for a few months now, and it is fabulous. Let's discuss the details. Ambiance: Beautifully renovated and decorated; welcoming reception and waiting area. Comfortable seating. Faculty/Staff: Friendly, approachable, very knowledgable. Teachers do a great job of handling a mix of brand-new and veteran students. Classrooms: Spacious; air-conditioned; lots of natural light; top-of-the-line equipment; size of each class is limited to an appropriate number of students. Mat Classes: Fun and challenging for students of all levels. Coming from someone who can't stand traditional mat Pilates classes. Chair Classes: Very challenging. You feel a sense of accomplishment at the end. Great cues from instructors, who are often faced with the challenge of teaching new students and more advanced students - and they handle it very well. Circuit/Reformer Classes: Amazing. If you haven't tried them, you should. Great instruction, great equipment - you won't find nicer reformers in DC. Trust me. Jump Interval: Tough, and fun! Feels like you're on a trampoline. Just don't jump too hard and move your reformer across the room like I did the first time. ;-) Great cardio workout mixed with classic reformer toning moves. You can even jump with tendonitis in your foot! (Well, check with your doctor first. I'm not qualified to provide medical advice.) Private Sessions: The private studio rules. There's a full cadillac. Booyah! Cost: It's Pilates. Pilates is expensive relative to other forms of fitness, but you're paying for the teachers' expertise, individualized attention, and an extremely effective workout. It's an investment. To summarize, it's great. And I forgot to mention that it's really close to the Dupont Metro station/Chipotle/fro yo shop featuring cake batter fro yo/Mimosa nail salon. I'm happy to report that this studio is still awesome. I recently moved apartments, got a new job, and did some traveling, so I took a few months off...only to come back to Fuse and fall in love with it all over again. Amazingly, they are still coming up with new moves - I really think I do at least one new position in every class. I am still just doing the mat classes (hi work - give me a raise), but have found that in just three weeks of being back, I can already see the definition forming in my arms again (arms are a popular request this time of year) and can feel my strength improving with each class. They have added more lunch hour classes too which I love because I work right around the corner. Actually, they've added a ton of new classes (love toys with Laci on Saturday mornings!) which makes it easy for me to get a class in more often. If you haven't checked this place out - that's okay - I don't need the competition around town. read more

So I've only take mat classes. That being said, it was a good class. My abs definitely shook during one section. My main complaint was that the teacher didn't really do corrections. I'm on classpass so I'll be back, but if I were looking for a regular expensive fitness studio, this would not be my choice. read more

How much do I love Fuse? Fuse pilates, which I take at Flow Yoga Center on P Street, is a unique, overwhelmingly innovative, and super fun class that blends pilates, yoga, the Lotte Berk method, and whatever else the instructor feels like adding in to her 60-minute class. What I love most about Fuse is that each class is new and different; it is impossible to get bored or plateau. I find myself constantly impressed with what the Fuse teachers come up with for the class. I try to fit in two or three Fuse classes in my week, and it has so obviously made a difference that it's actually kind of ridiculous. I recently took a Fuse apparatus class with Fuse's amazing Founder Mariska, which takes what you do on the mat and transports it to the pilates apparatus. While a few of the moves were traditional apparatus moves (not a bad thing - there's some good stuff there!), most were clearly the brainchild of Mariska's highly knowledgeable and inventive Fuse-centered mind. Some moves in particular nearly had me laughing out loud, wondering, "how in the world did she come up with this?" The Fuse apparatus classes are great after a long day of sitting at your desk, typing on your computer because you can really stretch out the kinks that tend to develop on a daily basis. Basically, this city is beyond lucky to have such an awesome workout here. When I ask people if they've tried it, I almost can't believe it when they tell me they haven't. Seriously, what are you waiting for? And try any of the teachers, they're all awesome and adorable.... but don't let that fool you because they will kick you ass. read more

So let me start by saying that I am not one for group classes, and definitely not pilates classes. I like to work out on my own schedule in my own way. I took this class at the behest of my girlfriend, who promised I'd warm to it. She was correct. Only a few classes in, I've gotten over myself and am really enjoying this class. Mariska is a top notch instructor who knows what she is doing, bottom line. She sequences her classes in a way that makes a lot of sense physiologically, allowing you to micro-target muscle groups without burning out. She keeps things varied and well-paced - never too much rest, never too frenetic. And she takes just the right attitude to keep you motivated and working without ever harping or condescending the way some trainers do. She also has an impressive able to adjust to each individual's needs and level of fitness, making it as hard as you need to get a solid workout in. I might not ever be a pilates kind of guy, but I'd take another Fuse class without a second thought. read more

To echo the words of other- I'm completely obsessed! I started taking classes at Flow over a year ago and instantly was hooked. The workouts remind me of what I used to do as a dancer. The new studio is now open and it is beautiful! All the classes are innovative, fun, choreographed to great music and never boring and the teachers are fantastic! Don't get me wrong, the classes are tough... but you can feel yourself getting stronger each time you take a class. After just three classes I was able to progress to things that were difficult the week before. Don't be intimated by the 'hardcore' theme. While it is hardcore, it is also a welcoming environment that encourages you to do what is best for your body- without judgment. The teachers are very knowledgeable and understand how each exercise works your body. Check it out- it will change the way you think about traditional pilates and workouts! read more

I want to give 3.5 stars. Fuse has a lovely space that feels clean, modern, and with sufficient direct sunlight. The ladder room is also well-equipped and can be lots of fun as you work with a variety of props throughout a class. There are changing rooms separate from the bathrooms so you don't have to wait forever to get changed if you're already cutting it close to class time. Some of the instructors are great and can really push you to challenge yourself. I had Janine in my first class and she's fabulous. Some classes are tougher than others even if they're all original fuse pilates classes, depending on the instructor. The one suggestion for improvement I do have, though, is they could all pay more individual attention to the students and spare less effort when it comes to adjusts. Sometimes the verbal cues are confusing to some and we end up doing the wrong movements. It would be helpful if the teachers came around more often and worked on us individually. The mat classes focus on different muscle groups in your body and you can request them before each class, but usually it's obliques, glutes, abs, and thighs. I took a ladder class and it felt way more challenging; my hands hurt a lot while trying to grab on to the rung and pull myself up. read more

I joined Yelp for the sole purpose of writing a review on Fuse Pilates! I had never attached to Pilates until I stumbled across this class in January and I was immeadiatey hooked. As a runner and an avid gym goer this method of pilates has increased my strength more so than any other workout I have ever tried, and helped fix my running injuries! My core strength was once non existent, I now can hold a full teaser...my once weak arms can now do full pushups! The best is that the classes are fun, customized and have great music. The new studio, which opens this week, is beautiful and in the best location. I cannot wait to try to the new classes they have created! What is not to love about Fuse....fun classes, incredible results, inspiring instructors and a chic studio. I am moving to Boston in a few weeks and the part of DC that I will miss the most is Fuse! read more

I should start off by saying I am new to pilates. I attend yoga regularly, but had never seen pilates and had no idea what to expect. I made the decision to try it based on a friend who would like me to start a reformer class with her. In addition, I needed to add a little something to my yoga routine that would tone me up. I chose Fuse because of its location, pass options and class options and schedules. I have to say I am very impressed. I signed up for the Fuse Foundations class (a class for absolute beginners) so that I could work on my core strength before moving on to the reformer. The instructor was fantastic. The workout was perfect - challenging, but I was not in agony the next day. The instructor took requests on what parts to work on. I was impressed with the layout of the studio and the decor. It is very modern - yet comfortable. I was in the studio on the third floor, which was very spaceous and airy. I totally felt at ease and comfortable. I have another class tonight - cannot wait! read more

Love this fuse location -- like the original DuPont space, this new studio has a warm and yet modern vibe, is clean and comfortable, well-stocked with animal crackers, and less than 2 minutes away from a Sweetgreen. Huge bonus, it's super close to a gelateria! Wonderful environment aside, the real reason to come to Fuse Pilates is for the classes. The 14th street studio not only has plenty of mat classes (which turned me into an addict many, many moons ago) but also has the new ladder apparatus! All classes (at this studio and at Dupont) are challenging, taught on request, choreographed to music, and fun, but the ladder class is an entity unto itself. Being able to climb up on things, elevate your legs/chest during pushups/roll-ups, and pull on resistance bands while doing legwork just makes everything that much more "interesting." All of the teachers are supportive and knowledgeable, you really can't go wrong. My only complaint is that my indecisiveness over "which fuse class to take" just became that much harder -- like it wasn't bad enough having to choose between mat, chair, tower, reformer and circuit! read more

If only I lived in DC, I would go here regularly!! I searched for studios in the Logan Circle/Thomas Circle area and gave this one a try and went back for a second class! It's very clean, the instructors are knowledgeable and were great about making sure everyone, regardless of level was doing okay the entire way through. Fuse Pilates is now the best workout location in town. The highlights: 1. A variety of classes. I've now tried the mat class, chair class, reformer class, circuit class, and jump class. Each one is slightly different (jump has more cardio, chair requires more balance, etc), plus the Fuse "signature" of 3 different body parts as the focus each class and a variety of music playlists means each class of the same type is different each time. 2. Challenging classes. I'm feeling my strength and flexibility build after only 2 weeks, and I'm getting some of that muscle definition back that I'd lost from a year of doing only jogging and free weights. I really appreciate that Mariska and her instructors aren't tied to a strict view of what Pilates is; they think about how the body works and how to make it stronger. 3. A gorgeous space. The new location on Hillyer is bright, clean, well-ventilated, has plenty of bathrooms, room to store your belongings during class, and a lovely checkin/waiting area. Plus the location can't be beat. 4. Great instructors. The instructors here are friendly, non-judgmental, make an effort to learn your name, and do a great job of reading a class's participants so you are challenged, but don't feel bad if you're not the strongest person in the room. Mariska is absolutely terrific, but as importantly, she has well-trained instructors who understand anatomy and the exercises they are teaching. 5. Pilates apparatus classes at a bargain price. I've always wanted to take Pilates reformer classes, but the price of most sessions (even duets, or classes at Mint) was too steep. The opening special of 20% off monthly membership, so $166 for unlimited monthly classes, is a HUGE bargain. So, I'm a huge fan. Two small suggestions for the future: 1. A shower. The ability to take a class, shower, and go to work would be terrific. 2. Some kind of new student discount. I'd like to convince friends to come join me at Fuse, but at $40 for a single apparatus class, it's a bit of a tough sell to someone who is new to pilates. Some kind of special like first three classes for $60 might go a long way to getting new students in the door. read more

Holy good workout. Beautiful space. And no pretension. Many boutique studios in the city feel cliquey, and formulaic. They go thru the routine, with tweaks in the pattern weekly, but it's still the same ol' cult-like grind it out routine. Maybe it's the cooler 14th St vibe but mama likes this studio! Phew. Fuse's ladder class is no joke. Although the ladder looks like it belongs on a playground, it's just as much of a torture device as the reformer. Do not underestimate it's ability to make you sweat and shake. Like the other Fuse Pilates classes, ladder will focus on core and alignment while giving you a full body workout based around three requested body parts. The spring, loop, and bar add ons to the ladder just exponentially increase the number of exercises that can be done, so you know every class will be different. Ladder is really unique and you can't take a class like it anywhere else (patent pending?) which I think is really cool, especially DC is so saturated with workout studios that all start to feel similar. The only thing I don't like about ladder is hanging at the end. Maybe it's because my shoulders have been worked to their max for an hour already, but I can barely even hang my body still, let alone pulse my legs. I do hanging exercises at other studios so I'm not sure what it is about these pesky ladders! Oh well, always something to work toward I guess. Yes, this class is seriously challenging, but everything can be modified and taking breaks as needed is always welcomed. Ladder is a great way to work on your Pilates exercises while getting your heart rate up. read more

Fuse Pilates is awesome, and will make your workout something to look forward to! It is located in DuPont in a beautiful old victorian. The ladies who work there are so awesome, and really helpful. The classes are great! You walk away feeling good about yourself, because you know you have worked hard. My whole body ached the next day, but in a good way! The teachers are helpful, but not mean about it! The perfect place for a pilates workout...although a little pricey and classes fill up quickly. read more

I just joined Classpass, so my next few reviews are going to be of various fitness studios in DC that I had either never heard of or wasn't willing to pay for prior to signing up for CP... Fuse Pilates is a great little studio located a block from the North exit of Dupont metro. I took the namesake "Fuse" class with Ayelet and the class was intimate and really fun. The studio provides mats so you don't even have to bring anything, and I like how at the beginning of each class the participants agree on a few body parts to focus on. My class was all girls (as are most pilates classes that I've experienced), and we went with lower abs, glutes, and hamstrings, and Ayelet also focused on some core work. She walked around and provided tips/helped with adjustments to make sure that everyone was getting the most out of the class, and her descriptions were really helpful. Fuse is amazing and has totally changed my outlook on pilates. Not only are all of the classes amazing and challenging, the instructors and other attendees are all friendly, funny, and encouraging. The studio is conveniently located in Dupont Circle and they have a great range of both early morning and late evening classes to fit every schedule. Instead of dreading working out, I always look forward to my class at Fuse. The studio is inviting and always incredibly clean and cheery. The machines are always in great working order, and the reformer machines they use are the nicest and most comprehensive machines I've ever used. Another glowing endorsement for Fuse! Finally, a DC Pilates studio marrying the utmost dedication to best-in-class instruction and equipment with a beautiful, hip space and fun energy. I have taken Pilates all over the East Coast and feel as though I've finally found my "home." As other reviewers mentioned, the fact that Mariska and other instructors are able to tailor classes on the spot based on specific body part requests showcases their knowledge and proves you're in very capable hands. Blast uses weights and is technically a mat class. Clare chose songs I recognized (many top 40, I think?), which made class much more fun for me. Circuit 1, a mix of tower and reformer, was challenging, incorporating exercises I haven't come across in 3 years of practicing Pilates. This class was set to more soothing background music. I love the next-day soreness I'm feeling -- haven't genuinely felt it in a while. The Fuse "playground" consists of four stories of impeccably clean equipment, many mirrors framed in dark wood (love this touch!), lots of windows, and modern bathrooms. The beauty of the space contributes to the feeling of treating oneself and doing something beneficial for both body and soul when working out at Fuse. In short, give this place a try, regardless of your experience level. You'll be welcomed and challenged in the best way. read more

I am confused by the glowing reviews of this place. I walked in for my first class and was shocked at how rude the front desk was - she had to ask for my name a few times because she kept forgetting amid an ongoing conversation with her friend. During the class the other participants and the teacher all seemed like friends - which is cool - but they talked endlessly about roommates and old tales from the former studio. Meanwhile the instructor forgot to have us do exercises on the alternate sides...... At one point amid a conversation about weighted blankets I had to look up and asked the instructor for clarification on what exercise we were doing since she had only asked us to get on the reformer and never cued us. This was a cardio based class and I didnt even break a sweat. I do reformer 2-3x a week and this was the least productive class I have ever attended. read more

So glad the Fuse Pilates Playground has a space of its own! What a workout! I've never tried the reformer & since I've also never done a personal training session, it was perfect that I could do a Fuse Pilates reformer workout in a class with others! We worked out 3 body parts (requested by class members - a Fuse Pilates tradition at the start of each session) & then some. Plus the music was mixed just right so I could get into a little groove with the stretches/movements. Mariska helped me w/ certain exercises to make sure my form was right & I didn't hurt myself. It felt so good, time flew by & I already want to go back for more! Such a happy space too - light, bright, clean space with lots of studios & bathrooms, changing area, etc. Just up the street from my office too, so guess I'll be hitting the Playground on my lunch break! read more
