I do not recommend. I found the instructor quite touchy and he didn't ask permission to touch me at any point in the session. I visibly flinched many times and the instructor continued to touch me without advance warning. The studio is very dark and the instructor operated the facility without other staff present, which made me uncomfortable. Pilates is meant to be accessible to people with a variety of bodies. It should include sensitivity to people who have experienced unwanted touching in the past. For an almost $200 visit, I left much worse off than before I visited. read more

Wonderful pilates studio located in Dupont circle. I highly recommed their group classes. This is NOT what you would get going to Washington Sports Club Pilates class. This is the real deal. Very friendly instructors while at the same time serious about the sport. read more

To find an extraordinarily skilled Pilates instructor is wonderful. To find one that is extraordinarily caring and kind is a bit of grace. Mark Trudeau is both. The studio he has developed reflects these virtues in the staff he has trained and in the spirit of the place. The work is informed by a deep understanding of how bodies work and a strong creative imagination of how to help people achieve their goals. read more

Taking classes with a master instructor makes a major difference. I started here after taking classes at several other studios, loving them, but feeling like I was missing something. Mark delivers high quality instruction with grace and humor. It is definitely a baby steps approach to improvement, which contrasts with the quick change, loud music, intense general pilates mat class experience being sold in other area studios. And I miss those classes when I have nowhere to hide in one of Mark's classes and no music to drown out my body screaming. I am always sore the next day, but also have noticed improvement in my posture. read more

This was my first reformer class.... unfortunately maybe my last class in this studio. I came in early, there was no check in. I just had to sign a waiver. I made sure to tell the guy behind the counter that it was my first class. He told me where the changing room and bathrooms were located. I went to the back to get dressed and came back out a bit confused. There was a private session in one side, a room with barely any machines with another private session in that one. I didn't know where to go. I walked around to take a look at things and I stopped at the front desk to ask the guy behind the counter that it was my first class again and I didn't know where to go. He didn't look up, just pointed at the 5 machines by the mirror and told me class would be held there. I was the only one, which raised a red flag. Where was everyone?? I always take classes in the middle of the day and I always find them to be well attended. I was put off by the lack of people. Class was supposed to start at 12:30 but didn't start until 12:40. Another woman was taking the same class with me and she came in right at 12:30 PM. It was her first time as well and she seemed just as confused as I was! The class was... odd. The guy that was behind the counter was the one who was teaching it. He had no emotion behind the counter and he had less emotion on the floor. He seemed like he didn't want to be there and that doesn't make me feel good, especially when I'm taking time out of my day (and $$) to come to this class. He seemed robotic and talked as if he was reading off of the dictionary. The actual workout did not seem to be very stimulating. I didn't feel like I did anything for my body, the "weights" were not heavy enough. This was a beginners class, but this seemed too easy. I've taken beginners classes before and they never feel like this. Also, class ended 10 minutes early which confused me. I thought this class was 60 minutes not 40?? You don't get what you pay for, maybe the instructor really didn't want to be there so he just cut the class short? I don't know but I didn't appreciate that. That all being said, I am surprised that this place has such great reviews. Maybe I didn't get a good instructor, maybe I didn't take the right class. I might try this place out again with a different instructor and see if things change. I did notice that majority of the clients here were more mature which made me think that the classes were geared toward an older crowd. I'm not sure, but I don't recommend my instructor, he never introduced himself or told me his name. Hmm... read more

I've started going to mat classes once or twice a week - they are more affordable than the machine classes, and you get in a great workout. If you purchase the package of 10, the price drops from $20 to $18 per class... you have four months to use them, long enough to easily fit them into your schedule. There are a good variety of times to choose from, too, including morning classes on both Saturday & Sunday and most weekday evenings. I started out just going to the beginner mat classes, offered Tuesday and Thursday nights 6:45-7:45. Those are starting to get easier for me and so I got my nerve up to try a regular class on a Saturday morning last weekend with Kate as the instructor. It was definitely a step up difficulty-wise, and I was pretty sore the next day, but I survived and felt good about going - thanks, Kate! The beginner classes set you up well for transitioning into the more advanced "regular" sessions. I like how the instructors more often than not will explain alternate versions of each exercise, so you can make it easier or harder depending on your body. They are generally good about moving around the room and spending time with everyone, making sure you're doing things safely and correctly. I always leave a class feeling like it was an hour well spent, well worth the $18! read more

Best studio in DC hands down. Amazing instructors, My favorites are Ryan and Hedi. They are both really nice and kick my ass in a good way. They also offer teacher trainings for mat and machine. read more

Fantastic studio space, I can't remember my instructor's name but she was very good, detailed and offered saftey modifications as well as something to challenge everyone. Pricey - $20/class. Which is not really worth it for someone who wants to do other activities. read more

Private reformer session experience; it rather felt like expensive physical therapy sessions. i appreciated one to one session but i wanted more challenging session. i wasn't sore nor sweating. it felt just too easy and relaxed. i looked around and most of clients were elder ladies.... not for me.... read more

I've never done Pilates and am not a big fan of yoga because of the bare feet thing. But I took a risk (for me) and bought a Groupon for 5 group mat classes, so I went to the beginner mat class...and LOVE IT. I've been traveling for work a LOT since switching jobs and moving to DC seven months ago and haven't worked out at all, and have been eating a lot of restaurant food (the good and bad side of traveling for work, right?). So I was pretty nervous about how horrible this experience was going to be. But this place is so friendly! They are extremely helpful and it wasn't embarrassing when they came over to help me. The instructors were friendly and knew what they were doing. I was really impressed and felt comfortable. The beginner class was great for multiple skill levels, as they told you how to kick it up or take it down some notches. I was really impressed and will definitely buy a 10 class package after my Groupon runs out. I don't live or work in Dupont...but this place is worth going to. Close to metro, and there are places nearby to grab dinner afterwards. read more

I'm not one to write a negative review, but this place is not worth the money. It feels old and dingy inside. It's definitely an older crowd, 40 + If you've never been to any other studio you might like it, but there's really so much more out there! The instructor was very touchy and didn't ask before hand if hands on assist was okay. Would not recommend to a friend. read more

I took the mat classes with Sue and she was a fantastic instructor! Lisa is awesome as well as she really gives individual attention to students. Both have different styles in how they teach the class. Mark's class really flows perfectly and he gives individual attention to all. read more

I really want to like this studio because its halfway between work and home and you really can't beat that. This studio is very traditional. You're probably not going to stray from Joseph Pilates's exercises and you won't be jamming to music. I think they do focus on form more than other studios because their classes tend to be very small. It also seemed like this studio had a more mature clientele than some of the other places I've been. Not positive or negative, just something to keep in mind. I've taken two classes so far-- group reformer and TRX. I didn't find either to be particularly challenging. The way I see it, if I'm taking time out of my day to workout I want to really feel like I worked out. Neither class had enough flow to make me feel like I was working hard. My first group reformer class was kind of boring. I'm not sure if it was because the instructor wasn't enthusiastic or I'm used to working out to music, but I was checking my watch during class to see when it would be over. I thought the TRX class would get my heart pumping. But we paused after every exercise to adjust the length of the straps, so by the time everyone got their straps right and he explained the exercise, my heart rate was down again. This class had music, but it was not very motivating... more of a chill afternoon soundtrack. We did modified pullups and walking planks that were challenging, but I didn't really feel a sense of accomplishment afterward. The studio is modern but a little disorganized. There isn't really separation in the main room with the reformers which I thought was a little strange. The group mat/TRX room also has some apparatuses that it seemed like people were just using solo. I think this studio would be a good place to perfect your form, but their classes aren't as fun or challenging as other ones I've taken elsewhere. read more

Beautiful studios--friendly instructor. I dropped in for a Friday group class for $20--and was sore for several days afterwards. Wish it were closer to me--I'd become an addict. read more

Very mixed feelings about this place, probably owing to the very mixed caliber of instructors. The good: lots of class options, relaxed vibe, good prices for reformer. The bad: old machines, some instructors go too quickly, classes start late and end early. I prefer reformer pilates at Mint but prices are better here, as is schedule. read more

I love this place. The instructors are world class and then receive the best instruction through the courses offered to become a Pilates instructor. Coming to this studio saved my back and now that I have been to other studios I realize that the training I received as a beginning Pilates student gave me an excellent foundation. If I had not gotten this foundation I would not understand how the moves should be executed or feel as they take the time to really show you, which other studios do not. And I believe I had that experience because of the passion of the instructors. That being said I have really cut back my time at the studio over the last year or two. The instructor who has taken over the majority of the basic machine Pilates courses during the week comes across as uninterested and completely hands-off. I noticed that often I was the only person in the class and even I could only take it twice. If this person had been my first introduction to the studio and Pilates, I would not have returned. I will not be returning to any of the courses taught by this person and hope that if they really do not have a passion for this work that they find something soon that does. And I really hope that the studio owner cuts back on the courses this person teaches and gives their time slots to the many other instructors they have that love what they do and are willing to make sure their clients are executing the moves properly and not just going through the motions. read more

I took a Friday lunchtime Beginner Reformer class with Duncan and it was a great experience. The class was just me and one other girl, so we got a lot of personal attention- perfect for someone who is relatively new to reformer work, as I am. Duncan did a great job of explaining the different positions and working in all kinds of equipment. I'd highly recommend this studio for a friendly, non-threatening pilates experience! read more

I don't belong to a gym because I won't go consistently. Going to Quantum every week is easy and fun. It has become such an integral part of my week that I haven't missed a session yet. I have worked with both Caroline Evans and Kate Cullen and both are great instructors - always able to show me how a move looks, able to explain it in such a way that I can make the move myself. They also have endless patience and they are easy to talk to. Mark and the rest of the instructors make the studio feel warm and inviting. I had never done pilates before I came to Quantum and I haven't left yet! read more

I have taken quite a few Pilates classes over the years, but this is the first place I have taken classes with a master teacher, Mark Trudeau. Now I know I wasn't doing any of the exercises correctly--I can really feel the difference. Mark gives individual attention during the group classes, which are small, and he takes into account each individual's physical state at the time of the class. He is a wonderful teacher--patient, thoughtful, and charming. l love this place because it's low-key and takes Pilates seriously while having a sense of humor, and the other people in the class are there to work, though they're also friendly. I wouldn't go anywhere else--nowhere seems to have the years of experience built in to the instruction that can teach the Pilates method from the simplest movements and breathing techniques to more challenging, sophisticated versions of exercises. My posture is already better after just a couple of sessions, and I want to go every day! read more

I have done Pilates at several studios, and this is the best. Their culture is to take the time to make sure you are doing each move correctly so your body gets the greatest benefit from your effort. I am happier, healthier, stronger and less stressed. My posture and my clothes look much better now. read more

This place does nothing but Pilates so it does it better than other places. The machines and one-on-one workouts are wonderful but too pricey for me on a regular basis. I went this route when I was recovering from an injury. Recently I tried the beginner mat class. I'm typically lost in Pilates mat classes at other places but this class was great. It was small and the instructor made sure that everybody was doing things as close to right as possible with beginners. read more

Love this place! Prices are reasonable (for DC), and staff are competent, passionate about their work and friendly. I've taken mat classes from Karen, Kate and Ryan; both are great Pilates instructors. Go to Ryan's class for tougher workout, Karen for fundamentals and if you want to be kept to a high standard for form, and Kate for challenging forms and increased flexibility. They also have TRX classes, which are fantastic! You need to reserve these though, since they only have six spots. Ryan and Rachel are both great instructors for TRX. I've never been to a machine class, but have had private reformer classes with Ryan, Caroline, and a few others when they were apprentices. There are very few instructors that aren't fabulous at Quantum, and all classes that I've been to have been better than average for the area. They have a variety of classes (mat, machines, TRX, and occasionally karate with Ryan when there is demand for it), and if I could afford private classes, I would definitely do it here. Very recommended! read more

I've only done private pilates based physical therapy sessions here but I just love the therapist that I work with. Carrie Jose really knows her stuff. After doing years of traditional therapy at area rehabilitation facilities, Pilates based PT is just what the doctor order at this point in my rehab journey. Carrie has been so helpful with schduling and even assisting me in getting my therapy covered by my insurance company.I highly recomend Quantum and specfically therapist Carrie Jose. read more

Mark Trudeau is simply the best pilates instructor in DC. If you want a CORE STRENGTH building session that is what Joseph Pilates intended and designed, go to his classes and visit this studio. They care not only about fitness but about doing what is right for your back and your body so that you are working out in a productive way. After 6 years of on and off exercise post high school/college, Mark has led the only class that has kept me coming back every week and has stuck. LOVE IT. MUST TRY! read more

Quantum Pilates is amazing! I was in a bit of a health rut when I started coming here last fall, working too many hours and indulging in too many happy hours when I wasn't working. My life has been far more balanced since I discovered pilates, and I'm even eating better so that I can show off my better, stronger abs (and arms!). The mat classes are wonderful, difficult but not daunting. I've enjoyed them so much that I'm now splurging on one-one-one sessions on the weekends to learn the machines. Takes a bite out of the budget, but worth it. The instructors here are really encouraging and care about learning their students' strengths and weakness. I genuinely look forward to coming here and am excited about my pilates "journey." read more

This was a life-altering experience. I've had a bad back for years. They made the pain go away without drugs. It's all about building the core. I can't afford to do this on a permanent basis, but it was good while it lasted. And when things pick up financially, I'll be back at Quantum to build up my strength, read more

Pilates-based physical therapy here rocks. the mat classes were alright, i like vida and thrive better. haven't tried group reformer.

I loved this place. I wasn't psyched to pay the full fee, so I was thrilled to learn that you can work with a student at a very discounted price. I'd reccomend this place to anyone (and don't worry about using a student; they need so many hours to get certified, by the time you show up, theyr'e very well trained. read more

I started doing pilates at Quantum Pilates and am a huge fan. The facilities are great and the teachers are great. Kate is especially great to work with. read more

I have been doing Pilates for over 15 years...and Quantum has some of the best instructors I have ever had. They really know not only the proper technique but know how to keep people from injuring themselves. Ryan H was my instructor for most of the 5 1/2 years I was in DC and his background in martial arts and strength training gave our Pilates sessions an upper body strength focus which was long overdue. He started a fabulous TRX series of classes which will change your body if you commit to them. There is a cohort of people that are devoted to his classes...but there are many opportunities for new students to learn the techniques and join a great group of people from all walks of life in DC that just want to be stronger and healthier. I love Quantum's approach...you buy packages and then can schedule private sessions or classes on line. They have everything, TRX, Pilates ( mat, reformer, chair One of my biggest regrets is that I know they will be hard to duplicate north of Boston...I can't find anything that comes close to this experience! read more

I was very disappointed in the Quantum fitness class and the gym in general. This was my first time at the gym and I did not feel welcomed. The instructor, Duncan Trudeau was not a very good instructor in my opinion, and I felt like he was helping me out as a favor, and I was lost during the class (FYI, i am a former national track and field athlete, but this was my first time using TRX). Then the instructor, Gina Harrisson, was rude, when I asked if I can join her class. Just a very bizarre and unwelcoming experience. I will not be back to this gym. read more

LaToya Asher is an extraordinarily effective physical therapist, based at the Quantum Pilates studio. I call her the body whisperer. I struggled with a sore/strained lower back for over a year, did two stints of PT at a regular PT center, and went to two chiropractors. One of the chiropractors suggested that I find a physical therapist based at a Pilates studio, because such a person could use the Pilates equipment to strengthen specific core muscles. I then found LaToya via Google. She has worked wonders, and has me back being active again, including paddling a canoe. She is extremely smart, knowledgeable, thorough, intuitive, sensitive, attentive, and just plain fun when working with me. I went for my back, but she readily focuses on the alignment and strengths and weaknesses of the whole body. My 30 year old son now goes to her too, working on a knee mangled playing basketball. We both adore LaToya. You have to pay up front and then submit the receipts to insurance yourself for any reimbursement, but it is so worth it get moving again. read more

I have been working out with Ryan at Quantum for almost 4 years. I am over 60 and have a history of lower back problems and was interested to see if Pilates would help and it certainly has. Quantum offers a variety of equipment and both individual training and classes, although I have only done individual training. Ryan is a very patient, intuitive instructor and very careful to ensure that I don't do anything that could hurt my back. Most important, he has an excellent knowledge of Pilates generally, and has tailored the workout routine to those exercises that are particularly useful for me. (He is also fun to work out with). Pilates has been excellent in strengthening my core and increasing my flexibility. Overall, the space is very pleasant, the equipment is all well maintained, and all the people who work there, in addition to Ryan, are very nice and considerate. If you have been considering trying Pilates, you should definitely check out Quantum. read more

I read the good reviews of Quantum and was at my wits end in terms of finding pain relief for ongoing lower back pain and sciatic pain. I had previously tried the typical physical therapy model...ten minutes of manual therapy followed by heat and then passed off to an assistant for exercises I could easily do on my own. Jennifer at Quantum seemed to offer a different path, combining significant hands on therapy and pilates. She was immediately able to recognize how I was stuck and unable to walk properly. I've had 6 visits and can move normally now. The pain is not gone yet, but it's getting there. It's the first time I've felt any real confidence in a physical therapist. Not only does she really think about what will work for me, she also has shown me different exercises I can do on my own that really help me to focus on my alignment and strengthening of my core. I highly recommend Jennifer, and also pretty sure that Quantum charges less than typical PT offices. read more
