Ask the Community - Solidcore - West End

How do you know which class is for beginners?

What is the difference in price and content of all levels/off-peak/and mock classes?

Hi Alaina! Our all-levels and off-peak classes have the exact same content, however the off-peak has a lower price point. Our mock classes are led by our coaches-in-training who are in their last stages of training - these classes are steeply… Read more

[solidcore] is extremely challenging, no matter how often I attend, but I leave every class feeling happy and accomplished.

District Pilates - Studio, reformers

OVERALL: good workout but it's more like stretch Pilates…read more PROS: - small studio with I believe only 7 reformers = lots of individualized attention - if you're new to Pilates the individualized attention is great and adds to a safe and welcoming environment - clean - friendly staff - socks on pilates (they sell sticky socks) - great 3 class for $79(?) promo CONS - fills up quickly bc there are only 7 reformers - it's not as hard as solidcore. I did both beginner classes here and solidcore and found that while I got a little burn/soreness the day after, District Pilates felt more like a stretch Pilates class. Solidcore was harder and I really felt I was working my entire body - wish they had followed up after my 3 day promo was up Overall a good starting point and would recommend for starting out.

There are 7 reformers (yay small classes) with a chair and a ton of props to use throughout the workout. I've been to a few of the instructors and liked them all. The workout is challenging and you can really feel your legs, arms, glutes working in each posture. The studio has lovely and colorful art work and small seating area at the front. If you are looking for a good reformer workout I highly recommend this studio. Location: Conveniently located in Logan circle with plenty of street parking and many restaurants nearby to try after your class.

This has been my go-to workout since moving back to DC. I lived in West Hollywood for over a decade…read moreand started doing Lagree after a terrible knee injury. I was a longtime runner, Barry's Bootcamp, and Cross Fit enthusiast -- all of which destroyed by body and left me injured more than in shape. Lagree Pilates and Solidcore are a full body workout and exactly what I needed. There is zero impact on the joints and each movement is slow and in control. You also majorly get the heartbeat pounding and I find myself a sweaty mess like I did in those other fitness routines. Solidcore's approach isn't always my favorite (the trademark language and constant soundtrack of the instructors). If I had to pick, I prefer Lagree's approach more but hey, I'm just grateful to have this workout in DC.

I have been going to solidcore for years, and it's a great workout. But as many have said, it has…read moresome really bad policies that come with it that don't have the client in mind AT ALL. so I am going to leave it and hope others consider the same: 1. Expiration policy on classes is VERY short - this means that if you get a VERY EXPENSIVE classpack but say get sick or have to travel, there's zero flexibility to get an extension. Pretty tone deaf given we just went through years of a pandemic. 2. There is NO HUMAN to be found to help with any questions on classes/memberships, you just email some general account and someone with no name sends you boiler plate marketing. 3. VERY EXPENSIVE It all just leaves a very unpleasant taste in your mouth and there are too many other fitness options where you are treated like a human and where you can get a great workout.

I love SC so to me this wasn't necessarily a bad thing but do keep in mind this class pushes you to muscle failure rather than focus fully on Pilates form. I came for a 430 Ariana Grande class and didn't realize they don't really have a "waiting" area since they keep the doors to the room locked. They have one restroom available and then you just leave your shoes out in the open. The studio itself is gorgeous and has such great natural lighting. Check in was easy and my instructor was very helpful in explaining the machine and the class. The class itself was about 80% similar to SC with maybe a little traditional Pilates and some stretching. A hard and good workout but wasn't what I thought it would be but still enjoyed it. The class is around 40-45 minutes so you don't get as long of a class for the money. They didn't play any Ariana Grande which was a bummer since I looked forward to the theme. Overall clean and aesthetic studio but very similar to studios I'm already a member of and with slightly less amenity space, I am not sure which is a better bang for your buck.

Every single instructor teaches such incredible classes and has great instructors like I barely look at whose name I'm signing up for. The strength and cardio slay. The class times are perfect. Everyone is friendly and positive and uplifting. They have dry shampoo in the bathrooms. The studio is beautiful like the brick and plants everywhere are so good. It's so clean and they give you a disinfecting wipe (not Clorox like a good wipe) for your props at the end so the props aren't grimy. It smells good because of the lemon candle they use. In general just such a positive space and the vibe is not to hate on your body it's to modify and like be balanced and functional The essential oils is what I will especially highlight because basically at the end of class they waft around these essential oils during breathwork and I am in loveeee with it!!!!! I will say I wish they had more retail that's my one thing

If it wasn't for the welcoming atmosphere and convenient location of Woodley Park Yoga, I don't know if I would've kept up my practice. As a newbie to yoga, I take the beginner class on Saturdays at 11am and the guided quarter primary class on Tuesdays at 7pm, both taught by Elsie. She has a calming voice, goes over the poses for new folks, and encourages you through the more difficult poses. The beginner class is easier if you've at least tried yoga at another studio or at home with YouTube videos. Be prepared to sweat a little! The studio is sizeable and allows 13-15 people max depending on the class. You can store your yoga mat in the back room, and there are wipes for your mat. I don't usually see blocks or towels readily available, but ask if you need them. The studio is on the third floor of a four-story building in Woodley Park, above Uni Sushi (no elevator). There's a small bathroom in the back of the studio. If I can think of only one downside, it's not being able to pay for classes online in advance, even though you can reserve your spot online. You need to go to the studio and purchase classes directly with the teacher, which takes time before/after class if you're waiting for others to pay too. Better to just buy a pack of 5, 10, or 20 classes if you plan to come back regularly. Checking in relies a bit on the honor system: you write your name on a card and the number of classes, then cross each number off when you show up to class. Whether your a seasoned yogi or a newbie like me, I highly recommend dropping in Woodley Park Yoga for a class!
