This is one of my favorite workouts and favorite studios in DC! I had been wanting to try Solidcore for awhile, but was pretty intimidated (especially after watching the intro video online)! But I took the intro course with Emily and she made the experience fun and super accesible. Since then, I've had an amazing experience with instructor - especially Avanti (my abs still hurt). In addition to amazing instructor and a beautiful studio, the customer service is incredible - gelling me pick the best classes for me and even generously helping me when I made a total rookie mistake when purchasing a pass. While not my home studio, I frequent this location once in a while, usually for the Power30 class. Limited street parking but is a great centralized location if you're working or in school nearby. I've taken class from 3-4 coaches and they've all been great. read more

Probably one of the most challenging and rewarding workouts I've ever endured. But I keep coming back to experience the many emotions that come from a [solidcore] workout because it's addicting: the initial agony, the motivating heart pumping music, then that feeling that I can do that oblique plank for 8 more seconds, and then hey... I think I also do those lunges, army crawls, bicep curls, and before you know it, I've finished 50 minutes of this workout, and I want to come back for more. All of this done with guidance from amazing coaches, gently and firmly giving you inspiring reminders of why you came to class that day, and that you are stronger than you think and that you can overcome those body shakes those planks/lunges/etc. may cause. John Pinette chants, "Raviolis and a nap" to motivate himself through workouts; the only mantra my brain could summon during my first Solidcore class was "I'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadie". Solidcore is amazing for people looking to take their existing workout regimen to the next level, but it was tough to work modifiers around an old injury. The instructor was high energy and came around to give guidance and adjust resistances as needed. I felt like a weak pile of jello for an hour afterwards! My activity tracker logged a lower than average calorie burn over time than I typically invest in, but the isometric exercises definitely reminded me the next day that I had muscles I can't engage as efficiently without a resistance machine. read more

Why I came: I usually workout 4xweek. Three times weight training and sometimes two days cardio. I'm on vacation for conference and wanted to stay active and this was a nearby studio. I'm not from here so it doesn't exist where I'm from and it sounded different and cool and their website looks dope. So I tried it out. I didn't attend a beginner class, I just jumped in the regular. And I think it's doable. All I could say is, everything happened what my teacher told me what was going to happen. I was definitely confused (but that's ok since you just look around and copy others), I was definitely dead by the end, in a good way. So even with all my "working out" back at home, I was definitely slaughtered in class and I loved every moment. My muscles were burning and it was good. It makes my workouts back at home a joke. I was excited to be there and so curious what it's like. I've never done Pilates before or used the reformer machine but I think it's sorta the same but more intense and more heavier resistance/weights are used. I should go try a Pilates reformer class and see how that is. My experience. The facility is hip, cool and blasting music the whole time. It is clean as the machines are wiped down by the previous class. There's limited number of machines to its a small class and it's good to reserve ahead of time,The lights are also dim the whole time. I love the vibe. The teacher, Katie, was energetic and kept us going through out. I think it's in their program that they speak the entire time during class. Which, yes is good but also, darn it I can't hear the music when I gotta keep listening. Maybe if I lived here and I kept doing it then I get the flow and can zone out and multi listen. The music was pumping! Before class Katie explained the machine to me, but you just go with the flow, watch others and give it all a try and try your best. Thanks, I love this studio, I wish it were in my hometown. I'd definitely come again, maybe not tomorrow (since I was in class today) but I know I would get an effective workout and not be wasting hours at a gym. I can totally see how I would get shredded if I came here on the regular. read more

[solidcore] is the hardest and most efficient workout in the area! I really like the West End location. Walkable from DuPont or Foggy Bottom metro and the studio is cozy! I've been to about 6 of the locations in the area and this one has the best sound system. Music is loud and mic is crisp, loud, and clear. Fave coach here: PAMELA! She has super fun and motivating energy. She was born to be on a mic! Her sequences are fresh and challenging, and she doesn't make you hold things for a ridiculous amount of time. Lots of variations to hit muscle failure instead. This made it more enjoyable. Can't wait to go back to her class! read more

I'm not usually a workout class person, but this is quite possibly one of the best workouts I've ever had! It's different every time, challenging, and honestly leaves me sore for days. Solidcore hits on different muscle groups in ways I can't hit at the gym on my own, and I've seen incredible muscle definition develop even in the few months of going. In particular, Kacey Buderi's class is INCREDIBLE. She is equal parts encouraging and tough-love, and somehow always finds me exactly when I'm about to give up to push me a little further. Plus, she's hilarious and really fun to workout with! Highly recommend attending her classes! read more

The workout is great. I tried it through ClassPass and have done similar things before, on a Megaformer and a Pilates reformer. I enjoyed it. I could have done without how loud the music was and the constant talking of the teacher, but it is what it is--if you wanna hop on the machine, you gotta take that with the rest :) read more

Such a good workout! As someone who loves fitness classes and has tried a little bit of everything, I was definitely surprised by how unique and challenging this workout is. I definitely recommend starting with the beginner classes. It's hard to get the hang of it and understand the movements at first, and the beginner classes can definitely help. They're still challenging, just taught at a slower pace so you get a better grasp on the movements. The instructors are all wonderful. I haven't found one yet that I don't like! They're all friendly, make an effort to get to know you, and provide lots of words of encouragement when things get tough. The music is a little loud, so sometimes it can be hard to hear the instructor, but it's never been a huge issue for me. I tend to go between the West End and the AdMo locations; both are great. Highly recommend [solidcore] if you're looking for something more unique in your workouts! read more

[Solidcore] is by far one of the most unique workouts around. With time spent toning your core, legs, obliques, and upper body, it is a full body workout. It's going to be hard, especially the first few times, but I've never been as sore as I have been post this class. They have a great intro package and do a good job offering modifications for newbies. read more

This location is closer to where I live, so I've been coming to this studio more often. And let me tell you, Pamela is my girl! Even after 75+ classes, I'm always excited and look forward to her classes because I know I'll be so sore the next day. Her high energy and positive attitude always pushes me harder and keeps me motivated. I love sleeping in on my days off, but will force myself to wake up early to go to her class. Had my first solidcore class today with Pamela and let me tell you, it is amazing! As someone who works out often (with a good amount of strength training), I was surprised by how much I was shaking throughout the entire class. And I was using the modified moves too! The class is fast paced and fun, and I absolutely love the ambience. Trust me, even though this isn't cardio, you will be SWEATING a lot. Pamela is a wonderful coach - I showed up about 15 minutes early to the class and she gave me a comprehensive walkthrough of the torture machine (ok, it has an actual name - 'sweatlana'). The machine is so versatile and I was working out muscles that I rarely use (namely, upper obliques and upper abs). The class is going to kick your butt but push through and you'll feel such a dopamine rush afterwards. Going to come back again!!! read more

I love love love Solidcore! The classes leave me feeling energized, sore and inspired to continue to work out! This is definitely a tough workout and unlike anything you'll see anywhere else. All of the instructors are so positive and encouraging and they are great about making sure you're using good form. I've only been to 6 classes but I can already see results. I can't say enough good things about [solidcore]. I regularly take class at the West End location and really enjoy it, the instructors at this location are fantastic, I think I've taken class with almost all of them. It's INTENSE and the first few times I took a solidcore class I was scared off for a bit but am so glad I came back. I've noticed how the core strength has improved other workouts - I think I'm actually a faster runner due in part to solidcore. I usually metro to Dupont, walk to the location on 23rd and then walk to Foggy Bottom to get to my office in Rosslyn. There's no shower if that's a major factor for you but otherwise could not ask for anything more. Do it! And then give yourself a little pep talk and do it again! read more

Let me preface this by saying the location you go to really does make a difference. I went to take my first class at the Shaw location and having forgotten to read the email they sent confirming my booking didn't know I should have been there 10 minutes early (and I didn't know the door code). The instructor met me at the door and basically shoved the card in my face saying I couldn't take class because I didn't come 10 minutes early and now I would be cutting into the time of the other clients if she tried to show me the machine now. I was really hesitant to even book another class but I decided to just try another location. The West End location is great! Every instructor has been so friendly and encouraging and I love how they call everyone "team" and have you high-five your neighbors at the end of the workout. I have been doing Lagree/Megaformer for 3 years now and this has to be the most consistently challenging workout I have done on Megaformer. The studio set up is really cute and you feel completely safe leaving your stuff there and working out. I wish the classes weren't so expensive because I would be there every day if I could be. read more

Easily one of the hardest, most satisfying workouts I've ever had! [solidcore] is extremely challenging, no matter how often I attend, but I leave every class feeling happy and accomplished. It's tough, forces me to do things I really REALLY don't want to do (those obliques though...), and after beginning a more consistent [solidcore] regimen, I'm starting to see and feel the difference in my body. The coaches are all great; I like the tough but not too tough love they give, and they're always really friendly inside and outside of class. I like West End in particular, not only because it's walking distance to my office, but we aren't visible to everyone on the street when class is going, so I don't feel like I'm being gawked at by passersby. read more

Nothing defines a love-hate relationship better than [solidcore], in the most positive way ever. The classes are such an amazing challenge and every instructor I have had so far at the West End location has been extremely encouraging and motivational. Jen S. instructed the first class I took and made me feel completely comfortable even with my first-timer nerves. When the shaking sets in and you are ready to give up, your instructor is reminding you just how strong you are. I also love how they take care to help adjust your form throughout class and address you by name - it really makes for a personalized experience. Solidcore is a great gym that offers reliable, high-quality classes. I've been to several of their locations, and have enjoyed all of them. Their coaches are great and there are never more than 11 people to a class. The classes are HARD, definitely not something that is to be taken lightly. They will challenge you every time, and are nothing like you've experienced in other places. This location is clean, brand new, and helps with motivation :) The benefits are great, and you get stronger and leaner much faster.
