This bar caters for anyone who likes old-school rock. As such, there is a very wide age range to be found here, but always a good atmosphere. I once came in here wearing my fire-engine red trenchcoat and must admit I did get a few funny looks, feeling slightly out of place among a forest of balck. The pool table downstairs is always popular and friendly rivalry ensues. Being a bit of a metal-head myself, the music is good - plenty of Pantera and classic rock. Beware one of the ladies toilets though - open the door and you are immediately at the top of a flight of stairs so watch your step!

I've only been in here a few times, and enjoyed myself somewhat. Good ol' rock music, and a decent enough atmosphere (well, if the music was turned down just a tiny little bit, yes there might be). I felt very out of place - I don't wear all black, have any facial peircings, or wear those massive scary looking black boots. HOWEVER, I may have looked out of place, but, nobody made me feel too self concious, except for the bar staff who eyed me curiously enough as if to say "In here? Really? You do know what this place is, right?". Anyway, the drinks were cheap, and we got a decent game of pool on the go, so all was well, for a while, until, suddenly we looked up, and it seemed like every person in the place was confused by our presence. I think that was our cue to leave... So, if you feel like being eyed by several 'metal-heads', and made to feel a bit out of place, then yes, by all means I'd go here, otherwise, I'd maybe wait a while and hit up one of the other bars on Hope Street.

The Solid. I don't know how long this place has been alive, it feels like forever. It's a great venue for Rock, Metal fans, and you sometimes get a few famous folk drink here after their gig. It's not just for the metal fans, all types would like this place. They also serve food. They have a huge lounge down stairs with leather seats you could easily fall asleep on. And in that lounge they also have a bar too, and a pool table. The whole place is a really clean looking. I've not got anything bad to say about this place as I've been coming here for years with loads of my friends. Only thing is. Fix the squint on the pool table and there are around 7 pool cues that only one has a tip. This is something that can easily be fixed. If you haven't been here, you at least need to try it.

First off, this pub is always crazy busy, full of metalheads. Cant move busy. Claustrophobic busy. Depending on my mood, I can handle this or I cant. It depends on why I am there. It's ideal for before gigs, and specifically metal/hard rock gigs. They always change the music before big gigs like Alice in Chains or AC/DC to have loads of tracks by whatever band is playing that night and it gets you properly pumped up for your night. There's a pinball machine! Which is awesome, because pinball machines are awesome and hard to come by these days. The bar reflects recent metal trends with Jagermeister being an obvious choice amongst patrons along with energy drinks like Relentless and Monster. There's a lot of boring chat about folk's bands and general narrow mindedness surrounding musicianship. Drummers who use a double bass pedal make them amazing drummers, apparently. And learning the solo to Master of Puppets is NOT a waste of a month of your life. That makes you a great guitarist, apparently. When it's busy, it's unbearable. But if you like good rock music and want to get super pumped before a big rock gig, this is where everyone in Glasgow conglomerates. You might start smoking though, just to get some fresh air (and yes I understand the irony).

Love the solid. Many pubs have come and gone in Glasgow over the years but the solid has outlived them for a reason. Best bar in town

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

This may prompt you to feel like ordering a drink. You are in good hands and they can totally recommend something that you may like. Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

Super tasty! On my…read morevisit, we ordered many things from the menu, the Sunday roast dinner, pork bites in maple syrup, and pudding. Everything was great. We also shared a giant endless pot of tea. This place is really a special place, the day's menu is full of charm, and the service is excellent. When I was there, the dining area was quiet with plenty of available seating, definitely not a cramped place! I hope to return sometime, it was a great experience, food and all. I liked it so much I picked up a couple of their shirts to keep the memory.

The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

Well, they did give us a splendiferous spread with copious plates of delicious food to try. In January they had a Winter Sale on with some meals available at £4 and £5 so decided to take advantage of this with my bestie and fellow Yelper Angela B. As a result I ended up with a taste tantalising wee mac and cheese topped with bacon bits including a wee bucket of chips. Not bad for a fiver. Boom! I've also frequented for drinks and they have an excellent bar selection, there's even some cheeky fruit beers in there. Yay! I would highly recommend popping in for a wee swally or a sit down meal within the designated dinning area. It's pretty, it's relaxing and the music is pretty good with some 90's indie beats to tickle your ear drums. Other music probably plays at other times. It's also bang smack right in the middle of town so super handy but ladies beware of the icy blast of the hand-drier in the toilets. Ice burns beware! Please note, not in the Urban Dictionary sense. "(noun): an insult so harsh, that it is both freezing and red hot. Often used sarcastically, like after "yer maw" jokes." Boab: "I wiz playing fitbaw last night." Shug: "I wiz playing with YER MAW last night!" Boab: "Ohhhhh, ICE BURN!" Enjoy and no ravens were harmed within writing this review.

I opted for the taster plank - 1 third of a pint of three different ales, served in a plank with the beer names written on. That in itself is a great touch, a few places don't identify which beer is which. I had a Casear Augustus from Williams Brothers, a Fake Lager from Brewdog and a Witless IV from Red Willow Brewery - as you can see, there's a great range to choose from and the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about them all. While I was looking around and supping my drinks (the Witless was the pick of the bunch, fact fans!) I noticed the menu. I knew that The Raven were offering food, but wasn't too sure what. Looking at the menu, it looked pretty nifty so I figured I'd just eat here, and I was glad I did! The food is BBQ based - low and slow smoked pork, burgers, ribs, that sort of thing. There's been an explosion of this kind of food in Glasgow recently, I perhaps lay the blame at the feet of Adam Richman and Man vs. Food (my dream job too, it has to be said) but I'm not complaining! I opted for a pulled pork burrito with a side of spicy cheesy fries, and at £9 for the two, it was a steal. They arrived quickly, the fries in a basket and the burrito served on a platter. I was given cutlery before the food arrived, and what looked like a carrying case full of sauces, salt, pepper, kitchen roll and a great sight, a wet wipe! A great thing to have when eating what is esssentially finger food! There wasn't a long wait at all for the food; The burrito was lovely, really filled to the brim and fresh - but the spicy cheesy fries were stunning. Covered in jalapenos, cheese and a smoky, spicy BBQ sauce, they were quickly devoured. I could honestly have had a second helping of those on their own. A great first impression here, not just for the great food, but for the really helpful and friendly staff, and the attention to detail that the whole place shows. It's somewhere that I can see me returning to time and time again.
