This shoe store seems totally Davis. Cute styles and big selection of flats, sandals, slippers, leather flip flop top sandals, wedges, casual running type shies, wallets, eye glass cases and more. With the exception of the On Clouds, everything is leather. The prices are spendy yet seems consistent with like stores and on line pricing, great quality and craftsmanship. These are shoes that won't go out of style and it's unlikely you'd wear them out unless they are your sole pair of everyday shoes. Nice woman greeted us, asked us to holler if we needed anything. I'm so sad to write this review because I LOVE this store, but I had a bad experience a few months ago. I was trying on shoes, and I told the salesperson that I wear a wide. I showed her the shoes I liked and tried them on. At the time, they felt fine, but I've tried to wear them and they're way too narrow for my Fred Flintstone feet. I went and got them widened, and I've been wearing them around the house with thick socks on, but they're still too narrow and hurting one foot (the bigger one). This bums me out because the shoes weren't cheap and I don't live in the area - so now I'm stuck with shoes that don't fit because the salesperson who's an expert in this area sold me shoes that really weren't the right size. I'd been to Sole Desire before and worked with another salesperson who was AWESOME and near exactly what I needed. When I'm there, I always splurge and buy a couple pair because this store is so good and the service is usually top notch, but I feel like that last visit was a major exception to the rule and that the salesperson was about the SALE and not the service. Now I'm stuck with a pair super cute and expensive shoes that don't work for my fat feet. Wah. read more

This store had always been one on me favorites. They have a huge collection of cute and comfortable shoes in a lot of sizes. How often to you see the words "cute" "comfortable," and "shoes" in one sentence? Be honest! They epitomize everything a local business should... Which is why you should buy it from THEM instead of Amazon. Today I went in there because I had a pair of shoes that I bought MONTHS ago tear. I had seriously only worn them once... But had no receipt. Their shoes are top notch, so this was seriously rare. BUT they had a record of the transaction and exchange them in full. How many places will do that? Just finished buying shoes. Jen was amazing and we had some special needs for both myself and my Mom. We not only found what we needed but we got something fashionable. I have wide feet and they were super helpful in fitting me with some water-resistant boots! The salesperson also put me on a scale thing (...no idea what it was lol) that measured my foot width and where I put pressure on my feet. The boots were on sale and they also gave me info on how to water-proof them and how to get more arch support. It is on the pricey side, especially as a student, but wearing shoes that are comfortable is important to me and I'd rather invest in a good pair than buy cheap ones! read more

I've shopped here a few times and have been happy with the service and shoes I bought. Now I'm having a lot of problems with my feet and have been coming here to find the right fit for a shoe that will make my feet feel comfortable. I bought a pair of Birkenstocks here. I spent almost $140 cash on my purchase of shoes and the cork renew that the sales woman talked me into buying. Unfortunately I needed to return the shoes and was hoping to get my cash back, as I paid in cash. Instead I was told that they do not do cash returns, even if you paid with CASH! Instead they will mail you a check from their corporate office in Santa Rosa that will arrive in approximately 5 business days! Now I don't know about everyone else, but I have never heard of this as an appropriate business practice. The reason I was given by a older gentleman who was lounging in one of the chairs in the store (who seemed to be a manager of some sort who also told me that he has "been in the retail industry longer than You've been alive, and this is totally normal") is because they are a "small business" and they do not carry "large amounts" of cash in the store. First of all, I have never heard of a small business that has a "corporate office" and 11 locations. I'm pretty sure that is by definition the opposite of small business. I understand that a store may not have the "large amount" of $140 on hand, which I have a hard time believing, but seriously, your store doesn't even carry checks to refund me while I'm standing there. This store claims to be a small business but clearly they are not. No personal attention, terrible return policy that borders on unethical. Their prices are not even competitive. Save your time, money, and peace of mind and go elsewhere. read more

I am a Davis resident and shopped in the Davis store a week ago. I walked in the door and asked an employee (possibly the manager) if she carried shoes in wide widths. She said no. Sometimes I can get a pair of shoes a size up to accommodate the width so I decided to shop. As I tried on a pair of shoes, I explained to the employee that as a result of cancer treatment, I have neuropathy in my feet and I need a wide width so my painful toes are not scrunched in the shoes. I then asked if she can get shoes in wider widths. She very rudely said, in a mean tone of voice, "I told you when you walked in the door that I don't have wide widths". Most shoe stores can order shoes in wider widths even if they don't carry them in the store. I am a nice person and I always treat others kindly. I would never think to talk to anyone in that tone of voice she used on me and I will not stand there and get treated like that. Without replying back to her. I walked out, and crossed the street and went into the other neighborhood shoe store where I was treated very nice, with respect, and spent $125 on a pair of shoes.
