I was dragged here by my wife and daughter--WOW what a great store! While they both found lots to buy, I got a kick out of reading the mugs and pictures and admiring the great decor. It was definitely the best women's store I've ever been in and both my girls seemed to agree. Then I read some of the nasty reviews and I felt compelled to post this. We couldn't have been treated better by the manager and another gal working there. It reminded me of that saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." I'm sure that applies here for the few haters that didn't get their petty ways. Trust me--there's no way any female into fashion won't absolutely love this place! I get strange vibes here. Probably some microaggression to be exact. I occasionally visit this store with and without my white friend who dresses very well. I am an Asian American who dresses pretty plainly but clean. The majority of the time, I can tell the workers are very enthusiastic and enjoy conversing with my friend. They always welcome us with a very upbeat greeting when I am with her. I have actually bought things there before so it isn't like I only window shop there. Even window shoppers should still be respected. I'm not the best dressed person around, but I feel some ambiguity in terms of differential treatment by the staff. I am treated quite differently compared to my friend. When I go to the store alone, I am never greeted when I walk in even if there is no one else shopping. It is like I do not exist. I give this place three stars bc there was ONE time when I felt treated right by this older lady who was working. She greeted me as I entered the store and came over to check in on me and asked if I needed any help. I ended up buying a necklace and a candle that day. She was very nice. Strange how I haven't seen her work there since that day. Maybe she works fewer shifts. She also seemed quite genuine. As for the rest of the staff that I have "met", I feel they are above average superficial and do not treat me the same way they treat my well dressed white friend. The store is cute and is a boutique, meaning it's way too expensive for what I can afford. Aside from that, I came in to buy a pair of Toms. The salesperson was really helpful. I went back today to exchange the Toms for a smaller size but they sold out already. The girl at the counter offered to take down my info so they can call me when they get their next shipment in. I am incredibly disappointed by this business. I have visited the store three times--once with my mom while she was visiting town, once by myself, and another time with a friend my age. I am a college student and believe that I was age-profiled by the people who work at this establishment. When I visited with my mom, which was my first time visiting the store, I was treated kindly and was welcomed instantly upon entering the store. When I went in with a friend, we were not greeted and not tended to well as customers of the store. When I went in alone, I was entirely ignored. I was not helped nor asked if I needed anything at all. I spent ten minutes in the store, and since I was never acknowledged yet was only silently watched and eyed by the workers, I left. I feel as if my young age has led the people who work at this store to assume that I must not have money to spend in the store and that I probably won't buy anything because I must be a broke, struggling, starving college student. They do not know anything about my life, my financial situation, or my intentions upon entering the store. If my perspective about this is wrong and if I was ignored twice for other reasons, I would love for Pinkadot to message me and to explain their side of this disheartening situation to me; however, I will not be stepping foot into this store again--let alone supporting them financially by purchasing anything from them. The clothes have a range of styles and feels to them so you can shop here for your mom or your sister, for work or for a summer BBQ. I am shocked after reading all these negative reviews. Is this the same Pinkadot that I have been going to for the last 4 years? I live an hour and a half away and EVERYTIME I go to Davis I make it a must to go and shop at Pinkadot! They are friendly, helpful and know how to style you. My daughter and I visited today and were followed around the whole time. We're both very well dressed and well mannered individuals with the means to buy anything we would like in that store. We were just browsing - no suspicious behavior at all. However, we were definitely profiled. I have purchased here before and even have one of their reward with purchase stamp card, but every visit is becoming more and more uncomfortable. Employee seemed to find something to straighten out right next to us each time we stopped to look at something. I understand shoplifting is devastating to small businesses, but perhaps employees could be trained on spotting bad behavior without being so obnoxious. When I was a student at Davis, I came into this store looking for a birthday gift for my good friend. I didn't have a car while I was in Davis so I couldn't exactly drive to the nearest mall which would be in Sacramento. And my friends were tired of receiving UC Davis merchandise from the bookstore (sad thing was that those particular friends didn't even attend Davis) And unlike the other UC's there was no Urban Outfitters or American Apparel around. I walked by Pinkadot a bunch of times previously before when I was downtown. So I thought it would be the perfect place to get my friend her birthday gift. I knew it would be a bit pricey but I didn't mind since it was a good friend of mine. I actually liked the place right away. Everything was very girly (just like me) and pink! (my favorite color) But my good vibes went away when the two sales ladies didn't even acknowledge my presence. I mean come on I may be a broke college student, but you should know I'm carrying my dad's credit card. Really college kids may be broke but I bet you that they probably have at least 3 credit cards with them. So do not under estimate the college student. So they stood around gossiping about another employee. And when I asked them if they had a lacoste shirt in a smaller size they totally brushed me off. I didn't leave with a birthday present but I did come away with two conclusions: 1) the employees are afraid to interact with the customers. 2) the stuff they sell in there are all over priced and only bored housewives who strive to look young would shop in there. read more

Rude, rude, rude, rude - especially that middle aged blonde woman who works there is openly HOSTILE to customers. The owner is not service oriented and doesn't care a damn about her customers - so this is their "corporate culture" and it impacts all aspects of the shopping experience. I heard Pinkadot is going out of business and I can see why. The clothes are ADORABLE, but outrageously overpriced - lots of their merchandise looks cute, but is cheaply made, falls apart and the store staff REFUSE to give refunds. I paid $60 for a cute french cut Tshirt which I wore ONCE and it disintegrated. Brought it back the next day and the staff refused to even give me contact info how to send it back to the manufacturer. The only label inside the Tshirt said "Rock 62 Knit Resources" in Los Angeles. I tried Googling that company and emailed them 6 times, but no response. Then I went back to Pinkadot and insisted they give me the address, phone number of the manufacturer. Again they refused. At that point I told them "You will have to call 911 and have me arrested I am not leaving the store unless you give me contact info for the manufacturer". I was very polite and kept my voice civil. There were about 5 customers in the store and they all heard me because they were near the cash register. When 2 ladies walked out, then the blonde middle aged witch sales clerk phoned the owner and begrudgingly under duress gave me the contact info for the company who made the Tshirt. I sent it back insured postal mail. that was way back in August 2009. Never got any answer from Rock 62 Knit Resources. At this point, I'm filing a claim with the post office for lost merchandise. That will probably force the clothing manufacturer to cough up a refund or send me an identical tshirt. Now who in the world charges $60 for a little french cut Tshirt? I knew it was too expensive, but it was SO cute and really was adorable. Now I know NEVER to shop there - I talked to other gals in Davis who shopped there and they had similar experiences with clothing falling apart and hateful, rude snotty staff. DO NOT SHOP THERE unless you like being ripped off. A good "red dot" sale at Macy's can give you 75% off - the problem is there aren't any other ladies clothing stores in Davis - but heck, the Davis thrift shop has better quality merchandise than Pinkadot.....overpriced and cheaply made merchandise. I think the reason they don't give refunds or exchanges once you buy it is because they KNOW it is going to fall apart. read more

There are definitely cute clothes here, and the employees/owner do a good job of styling the mannequins in the windows, which is honestly what draws me in to the store even though I know that the prices are too high for my budget. The first few times I went in and left without buying anything - shocked at how expensive the clothes were. I have bought clothes here on three occasions now and on two of those occasions I have regretted the purchase - I get home and realize I just can't justify spending $100 on a shirt that I realize (once I'm home) isn't even that great, which it would need to be for $100 to be ok. I've taken things back at least once and was surprised to learn the first time I took clothes back that they don't give returns (even though I had bought the item the day before). You get store credit only. Oh well, my fault for not asking about the return policy in advance. If there were other stores with cute clothes in Davis I wouldn't have returned to Pinkadot after my first look in the store revealed how expensive the clothes are (even though they are just above-average looking clothes, nothing spectacular - nothing memorable enough for me to remember an item once I've left the store). It's the lack of other options in Davis that keeps me coming back. The store has introduced me to some good brands, though, which I have then bought online (!) where I can find them much much cheaper, for example on ebay. As a side note, the staff really is cold and has left me with a sour taste every time I've gone in. I have noticed that I am treated differently based on what I am wearing - one time I went in wearing my athletic clothes and received nothing but a cold look from the staff and was told I needed to leave my bag outside the dressing room while I tried on an outfit. The other time I went in dressed fashionably, and the same employee offered to assist me right away and said nothing when I took my bag into the dressing room with me. I think I'll steer clear of Pinkadot until their next sale. No sense making another purchase I'll regret. read more

I've been coming in and out of this store for about six months now. My very first experience was the best! Since then it's been about 50/50 on service, 40/60 on finding an item I want to buy, and 100% in love with all my purchases from this store. Let's talk about service. The hours they are open are really great for a working girl like me. But it must be hard for anyone in retail to stay in it for long with a passion. I'm sure most of these gals are just students like I was not so long ago, and do it as a side job. Finding people who truly love to do sales is tough. So it's a hit or miss sometimes with getting a "good fit" for help. My favorite visit was finding the perfect ring to compliment my wedding ring. I had so much fun shopping that day. The gal who helped me was such a sweet gal. It made me excited to find that perfect added jewelry piece that I was looking for, and my sales girl was very happy for me too! I have a hard time making decisions, so it was great for me to have that extra set of eyes to measure whether it was an ideal item for me. Plus, my best friend was along with me. The whole thing made me feel like I was just having fun on a "It's all about us girls day!" The worst visit was when I tried on some clothes and it didn't work out. I just wasn't feeling it that day. And I didn't like any of the items. The sales girl on that day gave me weird look, like "What!?!! How dare you want to leave without buying something." Really the look was more like I tainted the fitting room with my mere presence inside of it. I was really offended. Truly it made me want to get out some nasty words, but I kept my composure and waited to see if the same treatment would repeat again on my next visit. I have been back since then and indeed got great service once more. So I think it just depends on who's on the floor that day, what items are being offered, and whether or not I'm in a spending kind of mood to have an optimal sales service day, or a really lousy one. It would be nice though if you got treated the same whether or not you actually made a purchase. Finding items- The inventory is constantly changing and I do mean constantly. I don't understand how they go through items so quickly, but it really has been the case. I learned quickly if you really like something you better grab it because once it's gone, no more like it are coming in. It also helps because if you can't find something than wait a little bit and chances are something good will show up at your next visit. Either way, you constantly have to browse and keeping checking in to get the best benefit of shopping at a boutique store like this one. I will say this, when I do find a good item, it is so nice!!!! High quality, a bit on the pricey side, but so worth it. So this is how I do it. I buy certain items at low budget places like- thrift store, on-line sales, discount outlets. And certain items I go all out. You can really find one of kind items here that will last you a lifetime. You just have to be willing to spend a little extra on certain items. For example, I got really lucky today and found a pair of black slacks on sale for $95. Way more than I normally spend on a pair of pants. However, these pants are positively the nicest pants I've ever owned. Sleek, comfy, perfect length. I love them!!! I already wish I had one in every color!!! So there you have it. You're going to find people who love this store and some who hate it. Bottom line, I love boutique shopping because it's my favorite way to shop!!! read more

After i received good service and advice 3-4 times i came here, i don't understand why they get such a low star on Yelp. First time i came here just to checked what they have. I got nice greeting and friendly. Second time i came to store i wore my cheap blouse and short ( nothing fancy) and yes i'm Asian but they still treat me very nice and helpful (so they are not racist) that day i came back home with very pretty dress , pants and blouses. After writing a negative review about the service, I got an e-mail from the owner, Shelley, apologizing and saying she would talk to her staff. She also gave me a coupon for a discount on one regular priced item. I started going back and now shop there all the time. The clothes are just the cutest, and they get new stuff every day! While most items are geared for younger (teens - 20s), professional women in there 30s-40s can find great stuff. The clothes are a little confused a mishmash of middle age meets college age style wise and the prices are all pretty ridiculous, they don't carry much of anything that's affordable unless it's one of their sale days. The rating mostly reflect s the sales staff who didn't give me the time of day even when I had an armful of merchandise. They could have convinced me to buy more or even had a conversation with me but instead they stood at the register and chatted away while I waited annoyed for them to acknowledge my presence. I absolutely love this store. It is honestly the best boutique that I have been to within a 50 mile radius. Even though the prices aren't cheap, you're getting what you're paying for. All of the clothes from this store seem to be really good quality. They also carry some of my favorite brands, like LAMade, Cosabella, hanky panky, Sanctuary, Language, and now they carry For Love and Lemons! So many eye-catching holiday dresses. I also had a disappointing experience at pinkadot. I decided to drive to Davis from sac on my lunch break just to see what pinkadot had. I walked around shopping for at least 10 minutes. With 2 employees working (1 which seemed to be the owner), neither of them greeted me with a hello or nothing. Once I had 4 things in my hand she asked if I wanted a fitting room. Again, neither asked how I was doing or offered another size. They gossiped about a customer... Bad business to talk about customers in front of potential customers. A place like this is better suited for somewhere like San Francisco, Marin County, or L.A. where there is a clientele with a bit more cash to spend. Honestly, Davis is a college town and with the exception of students who come from families with money, I'd imagine most college kids are still living on top ramen(obvious stereotype lol, I never ate top ramen in college), and don't have the extra money to spend on a $60 blouse. Nice clothes, since they are designer items they will be on the pricey side. I do have to agree with other reviews in that the customer service felt a little standoffish. What brought me in was that they sell nice jeans, but apparently no petite jeans because they do free hemming. Nice store, but now that Macy's in Fairfield has an impulse section with all the same brands(velvet, citizens of humanity, etc.), with a bigger selection of designer jeans (and a better sales rack) I probably won't come back. read more
